ABSTRACT The purpose of this investigation was to (a) characterize the magnitude of acute weight gain and its relation to success in college wrestlers throughout the competitive season, and (b) examine any possible relationship between wrestling success and acute weight gain. Acute weight gain was determined at 15 competitions, and success was determined by season record and whether the wrestler qualified for the NCAA Div. I wrestling championships. On average, wrestlers gained 3.7 ± 0.3 kg of body weight before competing throughout the season. Acute weight gain did not differ significantly between successful vs. less successful wrestlers (4.2 ± 0.14 kg vs. 3.3 ± 0.5 kg). Significant changes (p
