This research aims at investigating the measures of agreement between BMI classification standard and that of 9-point contour drawing rating scale(CDRS), verifying their usefulness for the application to the filed, examining university students` substantial understanding of their bodies, and offering correct information regarding the distorted recognition of their bodies. In order to examine the measures of agreement between the classification standard of BMI and that of CDRS, and the women university students` recognition of their body images depending on BMI, Cross tabulation was carried out, and , Spearman rank correlation coefficient and kappa statistics were calculated. Factorial Invariance of Self-efficacy in Physical Health Care Scale for Men and Women University Students

The present study analyses the psychometric properties of the Selfefficacy in Physical Health Care Scale. The overall sample consisted of 2006 subjects: 902 women and 1104 men, with a mean age of 18.53 years (SD= 1.52) and 18.84 years (SD= 1.55) respectively. The Factorial Psychometric analysis showed that a three-factorial structure (nutrition, physical health and hydration) was viable and adequate for both populations (men and woman) according to the established psychometric requirements when the informers are the students themselves. The results showed that factor structure, factor loadings and intercepts of the instrument could be considered invariant across groups; however, there are differences between groups in favor of men for the means of the nutrition and physical health factors.

Electromyographic Activity of the Gluteus Maximus on the Weight-Bearing Side During Lateral and Frontal Wall Press Exercises

Background: The lateral wall press (WP) exercise is one of the weight-bearing exercises used in gluteal muscle strengthening programs. However, little is known about the muscle activity level of the gluteus maximus (Gmax) on the weight-bearing side during the lateral WP exercise. The primary actions of the Gmax are hip extension and hip external rotation. In addition, the superior area of the Gmax also functions as a hip abductor. We hypothesized that not only lateral but also frontal WP exercise might be suitable for Gmax strengthening. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to quantify electromyographic (EMG) activity of Gmax in weight-bearing side during lateral and frontal WP exercise. Patients and Methods: Twelve healthy women (university students) participated in this study. The surface EMG was used to quantify the activity of the Gmax on the weight-bearing side during lateral and frontal WP exercises. The exercises were done with opposite leg. A paired t-test was used to examine the significance of differences in the Gmax activity between the lateral and frontal WP exercises. Results: The means ± standard deviations of the averaged EMG during the lateral and frontal WP exercises were 40.1 ± 19.1, and 23.7 ± 11.3 µV, respectively. Those of the percent maximal voluntary contraction during the lateral and frontal WP exercises were 51.4 ± 29.7, and 31.3 ± 20.5, respectively. Gmax activity during the lateral WP exercise was significantly higher than that during the frontal WP exercise Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that the lateral WP exercise is more suitable than the frontal WP exercise for strengthening the Gmax on the weight-bearing side.

The Association of Partner Abuse Types and Suicidal Ideation Among Men and Women College Students.

Despite the well-documented relations between intimate partner violence and suicidal ideation, gender differences regarding the relationships between intimate partner violence types and suicidal ideation are less understood. In addition, few studies have examined the risk that harassment may confer for suicidal ideation in the context of intimate partner violence. This study examined gender differences in the associations of harassment, emotional, and physical intimate partner violence with suicidal ideation in 502 college students, while controlling for the influence of depressive symptoms. Results indicated that physical abuse, but not harassment or emotional abuse, was associated with increased suicidal ideation in men. In contrast, emotional abuse, but not physical abuse or harassment, was associated with increased suicidal ideation in women. Clinicians should consider potential gender differences in the impact of intimate partner violence on suicidal ideation when assessing suicide risk.

Reliability and Validity of the Korean Version of the Contraceptive Self-efficacy Scale: Focused on Women University Students.

The purpose of this study was to develop and test the validity and reliability of the Korean version of the Contraceptive Self-efficacy (K-CSE) scale. The K-CSE scale was developed through forward-backward translation methods. Construct and criterion validity and internal consistency reliability were calculated using SPSS/WIN 21.0. Data were collected from 257 women students from two universities in G city, South Korea. The factor structure of the K-CSE scale showed the cumulative variance as 62.9% in the factor analysis. Factor loading of 13 items on four subscales ranged from .47 to .88. Factors were named as 'initiative of contraceptive use', 'sexual assertiveness', 'refusal of sexual intercourse', and 'autonomic sexual behavior'. Criterion validity compared to the Sexual Autonomy Measurement (SAM) showed significant correlation. Cronbach's α for the reliability of each subscale were .50~.82 and .76 for the total scale. The findings of this study demonstrate that the K-CSE scale is a satisfactory valid and reliable scale. Therefore, the CSE scale can be useful in measuring contraceptive self-efficacy among women university students in Korea.

Modifiable and Non-Modifiable Factors Associated with HPV Vaccine Decision-Making among American Indian Women College Students

Cervical cancer is a preventable disease that is highly prevalent among American Indian (AI) women. Some types of the Human papillomavirus (HPV) has been identified as causing cervical cancer in women and other less common cancers such as cancer of the anus, vagina, vulva, and oral cavity. Two vaccines, Gardasil® and Cervarix®, are available for primary protection against HPV. Despite its proven efficacy, additional efforts are needed to improve HPV update among AI women. Our project was designed to assess HPV vaccine readiness among AI college students, and identify factors that influence their decision-making. Modifiable risk factors are ideal to identify in that they can be targeted for health behavior education and intervention. Further, risk factors once identified can be tailored for designing effective interventions in high-risk communities.

Effect of Hands Moxibustion Therpy and Hand Press Pellect on Dysmenorrhea in Women College Students

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of hand press on menstrual pain, dysmenorrhea and academic stress in nursing students. The research design was a non-equivalent pretest-posttest design Participants were 60 female students recruited from one college. The treatment group (n=30) received an hands moxibustion therapy and hand press pellect. Data was collected from March to August using self-report questionnaires and analyzed thorough descriptive statistics t-test, χ2-test with SPSS/Win 18.0. The independent t-test and x2-test were used to examine group differences by using SPSS/Win 18.0. Therefore, it would be useful for women students to be recommended and encouraged to utilize this method to reduce the symptoms related to menstruation through self care.

Academic Performance, Resilience, Depression, Anxiety and Stress among Women College Students

It is a growing concern among educators about the low academic performance of college students and its influence on their mental health. Many university students continue to have low grades, while many manage to turn around their academic fortunes (Martin & Marsh, 2006). Programs aimed at teaching academic resilience have proven highly effective in improving academic performance. The present study aims at finding the relationship between academic performance, resilience, depression, anxiety and stress and also the predictors of academic performance and resilience, namely, depression, anxiety and stress among women college students. Expost facto research design was used for the study. The sample consisted of 446 college going women, currently pursuing their second year of under graduation in city colleges. The tools used were the Connor Davidson Resilience scale (2003), the DASS scale by Lovibond & Lovibond (1995), measuring depression, anxiety and stress and the academic performance, using the marks obtained in the continuous assessment cycle. Correlation was found using the Pearson's Product moment method. Regression analysis was done to study the predictors .Results indicates that academic performance, resilience depression, anxiety and stress were positively correlated among women college students. Regression analysis revealed that academic performance significantly predict depression, anxiety and stress women college students, while depression alone is significantly predicted by resilience.

Water intake and body water percentage, role of physical activity in university women students.

Introduction: Physical activity and proper hydration status have a direct impact on health. Objective: This work aims to analyze the water intake and hydration status in university women students who present different levels of physical activity. Method: 57 university women students, age of 21.02 ± 2.45 years were classified according to Ipaq-Short Form in sedentary (n = 10), medium physical activity (n = 37) and high physical activity (n = 10). Water intake was analyzed in each group by a food and beverage intake record during a period of seven days, they were transformed into energy and nutrient intake by Nutriber (version 1.1.1.3r); and water percentage of the total body weight by bioimpedance (Segmental Tanita BF-418). Nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis test was used (SPSS 22.0 for Windows). Results: Results showed significant differences between sedentary and medium physical activity groups (p <0.05) and between sedentary and high physical activity groups (p<0.05). In both cases the sedentary group shows the higher body water percentage. According to the levels of physical activity, water intake has not shown significant differences among groups. Conclusions: None of the groups drink the amount of water recommended for their age. Despite this, hydration is compatible with a normal intake and it is higher in the sedentary group than in those doing some physical activity.

Contradictions in consumer reaction to the polygraph and personality profile

In marketing, the information based on verbal reports consumer may have low reliability due to different unconscious motives of the people who lead them to react contradictory to the views they express. These reactions often cannot be observed directly. The research in question, sought to know the psychophysiological responses to a TV commercial, measured by the polygraph. Involved 20 people, men and women professionals and university students, aged between 18 and 48 years in Bogotá. The results showed a contradiction between verbal report on the impact of commercial TV and reactions to the polygraph, also found the personality profile of those who had contradiction.

Women College Students’ Reasons for Engaging in Psychological Dating Aggression: a Qualitative Examination

Dating violence frequently occurs within women college students’ relationships, but few examinations of their reasons for engaging in psychological aggression have been conducted. Accordingly, the current study investigated psychological aggression initiated by women undergraduates against their male partners using a qualitative methodology. Overall, 72 of the 206 participants responded to an open-ended question examining their reasons for initiating psychological aggression. Six domains of reasons were identified; the two most frequently reported precipitants were negative affect and a partner’s transgression. One domain, “self-soothing,” (i.e., aggressing to help oneself feel better) had not been observed in studies of women’s initiation of physical aggression. These reasons could be targeted in prevention and intervention programs for reducing dating aggression among undergraduates.

Condom Attitudes and Use among African American College Women Students

Social cognitive factors, such as knowledge of risk, perceived efficacies, and perceptions of risk and barriers, on condom attitudes and usage were assessed for sample of 424 female African American undergraduates at a large urban university. This study finds about 47% used a condom at last sex. Condom users held more favorable attitudes towards condoms and had fewer sex partners. Females who perceived stronger barriers in using a condom and those currently having sex partners had more negative attitudes about condom usage. Self-efficacy in communication and positive attitudes about condom usage significantly increase condom usage. Our findings raise serious concerns about potential hiv outbreaks on college campuses.

Effect of aerobic dance training on endurance among university players

The purpose of the study was to find out the effect of aerobic dance training on endurance among university players. To achieve this purpose of the study, thirty university women students were selected as subjects who were representing various teams of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit to participate in the Inter University Competition. The selected subjects were aged between 18 to 22 years. They were divided into two equal groups of fifteen each, Group I underwent aerobic dance training and Group II acted as control that did not participate in any special training apart from their regular curricular activities. The subjects were tested on selected criterion variable such as endurance prior to and immediately after the training period. The selected criterion variable such as endurance was determined through 8 minutes run and walk test. The analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to find out the significant differences if any, between the experimental group and control group on selected criterion variable. In all the cases, 0.05 level of confidence was fixed to test the significance, which was considered as an appropriate. The result of the present study has revealed that there was a significant difference among the experimental and control group on endurance.

Perceived Self-Efficacy in Teamwork and Entrepreneurship in University Students. A Gender Study

The purpose of the present study was comparing the profiles of perceived self-efficacy in teamwork and entrepreneurship between men and women university students. A total sample of 2,089 participants, 902 women and 1,187 men, aged 17-20 years participated in this study. All the freshmen university students from each degree offered by the Autonomous University of Chihuahua (Mexico) conformed the sample. In order to carry out the study it was used a quantitative approach with a descriptive and transversal survey design. All the participants completed the Self-efficacy Teamwork and Entrepreneurship Scale. Statistically, the results of the one-way multivariate analysis of variance, followed by the one-way univariate analyses of variance, showed that women have a significant (p .05). Regarding the entrepreneurship factor, females results showed a significant greater desire and reachable self-efficacy than men (p .05). Thanks to differences found between men and women in their own perception of self-efficacy, it´s suggested that in order to design an intervention to improve the perceived self-efficacy of the students, the variable gender should be taken into account.

Perceived Self-efficacy in Alimentary Care and Physical Health in Mexican University Students, Comparisons by Gender

The objective of this research was to compare the profiles of perceived self-efficacy in alimentary care behaviors and physical health of men and women university students. The overall sample consisted of 1313 subjects; 710 women and 603 men students of the degrees offered at the Faculty of Physical Culture of the Autonomous University of Chihuahua, with an average age of 20.46 years (SD = 1.87). The approach adopted in the research was framed within a quantitative approach with a descriptive design survey type. The differences found between men and women regarding their perception of self-efficacy in the care of their diet and physical health, suggest that when designing any intervention that aims to improve perceived self-efficacy must be taken into account the gender variable. Future research should replicate these findings in larger samples.
