A control scheme for Squirrel Cage Induction Generator (SCIG) based wind turbine cluster (or entire wind farm) connected by means of a single high voltage direct current–Voltage Source Converter (VSC–HVDC) is presented. The proposed scheme extends the SCIG vector control of a single wind turbine with a full power converter to a whole wind turbine cluster with a single power converter calculating and regulating the optimal wind turbine cluster electrical frequency. This concept can be used in wind farms composed of multiple clusters of multiple wind turbines, and for entire offshore wind farms connected to the main grid using a HVDC point-to-point connection or a multiterminal HVDC grid.
