Analysis of the Theory of Al-Maqāṣid asy-Syarī'ah in Sustainable Economic Development

Sustainable economic development has emerged as a critical challenge in our increasingly globalised world, where environmental degradation and social inequities pose significant threats to future prosperity. The urgency of this issue is underscored by recent reports indicating that over 1 billion people still live in extreme poverty, while climate change continues to exacerbate existing vulnerabilities. In this context, the theory of Al-Maqāṣid asy-Syarī'ah provides a relevant framework for addressing these multifaceted challenges, as it focuses on the preservation of human welfare and the promotion of social justice. Central to this theory are the principles of maslahah, which advocate for actions that yield the greatest benefit for society, thereby aligning economic activities with ethical and moral values. This article seeks to analyse the application of Al-Maqāṣid asy-Syarī'ah in the realm of sustainable economic development, underscoring its potential to foster holistic community welfare. Employing a qualitative methodology, this study will delve into pertinent literature, elucidate the research methods employed, and present the findings that emerge from the analysis. It is anticipated that the insights gleaned from this research will illuminate the significance of integrating Islamic principles into sustainable economic practices, ultimately contributing to a more equitable and environmentally sound future. By recognising the interconnectedness of economic, social, and environmental factors, we can pave the way for a development model that is not only sustainable but also just and inclusive.

Factors Influencing the Quality of Life in Rural Populations in Colombia: A Theoretical Review

The quality of life of rural populations in Colombia is affected by various problems, including poor living conditions related to limited access to basic services, education, health and economic opportunities. Thus, the purpose of this study is to identify the most impacted dimensions in these rural contexts and to formulate guidelines to address the difficulties faced by their inhabitants. Methodologically, the research is framed within the qualitative paradigm, with a descriptive scope and is based on a review of existing academic literature. The findings emerging from the literature review show that the most affected dimensions are access to public services, infrastructure, employment and education, which has a direct impact on the general welfare of rural communities. It is concluded that there is a need to implement public policies that promote the integral development of these areas, improving their infrastructure, strengthening access to basic services and promoting educational and economic strategies that favor a better standard of living in rural areas of Colombia.

Volunteering behavioral declines amid personal and organizational upheaval: Recruitment, retention, and barriers in Australia

ABSTRACT Volunteers have faced recent social disruptions which have brought about a new wave of barriers to wash over survivors of an already declining number of formal volunteers in Australia. How the “environmental jolt” of recent social disruption has played out for volunteering is important to understand because less is known about how organizational responses have interacted with changing individual volunteer motives and meanings in the volunteering context. Understanding the impact of this environmental jolt of recent social disruption on volunteering is crucial, especially considering the implications for well-being in communities of volunteers.

This study reviews the research surrounding biophoton emissions, the principles of collective consciousness, and the interactions that may enhance individual and community well-being. By synthesizing insights from biophoton research with theories on collective consciousness, this paper aims to explore the interconnectedness of life and propose practical applications for fostering positive group dynamics.

SUBDIALECTAL DISCOURSE AND PECULIARITIES OF ITS MENTAL CONTINUUM IN THE LENS OF THE MODERN LINGUISTIC PARADIGM

The article is devoted to the study of specific features of subdialectal discourse and its mental continuum, viewed through the prism of modern linguistic theories. The purpose of the research is to study and describe the functioning and structure features, as well as the specifics of the linguarium of subdialectal discourse. The object of the study is the subdialectal discourse, which covers speech practices recorded in the village of Pishchanyi Brid, Novoukrainskyi district, Kirovohrad region. The subject of the study is the mental continuum of the subdialect speakers, which includes knowledge, perceptions and assessments related to various aspects of their lives. The source of the study was the speech recordings of the native speakers, i.e. the textual corpus of the subdialect. The methods used in the study were modelling, hypothetical method, deductive and inductive methods, descriptive method, observation method, taxonomic method, and continuous sampling method. The peculiarity of the study of subdialectal speech in discourse studies lies in the analysis of the composition of usages, the specifics of the composition of the linguarium and its influence on the structure of discourse, expression of thoughts, interaction of speakers and the formation of the ethnographic identity of peasants who speak the subdialect. The discourse approach allows us to better understand the speech process in a specific socio-cultural and geographical setting, as well as the interaction of speakers within the dialect environment. It involves analysing the discourse of the language group in question, identifying specific lexical, grammatical and phonetic features that are characteristic of certain socio-cultural groups. The metalinguistic interpretation of discourse types in the linguistic paradigm presents dialectal discourse as a reflection of real language use, a set of idiolects and an indicator of changes in the language. The household, ceremonial, religious and existential knowledge contained in the dialect discourse is critical to the well-being and cultural integrity of rural communities. In particular, household knowledge encompasses practical skills in housekeeping, agriculture and crafts. Ceremonial and religious knowledge includes traditions, rituals and beliefs that support the spiritual life and cultural identity of the community, and existential knowledge is related to the understanding of life, death and moral values, helping community members navigate difficult life situations. Prospects for the study include a meta-analysis of dialectal discourse, which can be expressed in different ways in individual subdialects, the development of new methods for studying dialectal language in the digital environment, and the integration of interdisciplinary approaches for a deeper understanding of speech practices and cultural characteristics of speakers.

Sustainable Water Management Through Green Infrastructure

This research explores the implementation of sustainable water management practices through green infrastructure (GI) solutions. As urbanization intensifies, traditional water management systems face challenges such as flooding, water pollution, and reduced biodiversity. Green infrastructure, which integrates natural processes into urban planning, offers innovative strategies for stormwater management, water quality enhancement, and habitat restoration. This study examines various GI techniques, including rain gardens, permeable pavements, and green roofs, assessing their effectiveness in mitigating urban water challenges. Case studies from multiple cities demonstrate the benefits of GI in promoting resilience against climate change while enhancing community well-being. The findings underscore the potential of green infrastructure as a viable alternative to conventional water management methods, advocating for its broader adoption in urban environments. Telling the untold: First Nations people’s perceptions of policing in Broken Hill and Wilcannia

ABSTRACT This article examines the ways First Nations people perceive targeted policing practices in Broken Hill and Wilcannia, New South Wales. It focuses on First Nations viewpoints and perspectives to unveil the colonial legacies of the region, their infusion into contemporary policing practice, and the pressures those legacies exert on the community. The empirical material was generated through interviews with 19 First Nations community members, in collaboration with a First Nations advisory panel. By centring First Nations perceptions of policing, it contributes to critical colonial critiques and decolonising expertise of policing, focusing on subtle and perverse acts of policing in Broken Hill and Wilcannia, and how these are perceived by First Nations people on different structural, social and personal levels. The main argument is that instances of targeted policing are perpetrated against the collective community through methods of pressure and surveillance. This collective pressure specifically targets and alienates the First Nations community while maintaining a non-Indigenous social order. In doing so, police present a legitimate form of targeted policing that impacts community wellbeing in perverse and ongoing ways. This argument and approach enrich place-specific understandings of First Nations experiences of policing and unmask the dynamic aspects of policing that the community endures.

Community Engagement in BUMDes PUJA BERSINAR Management Practices

Background: This study explores the critical role of village-owned enterprises (BUMDes) in improving community welfare through effective management. Specific Background: It focuses on the management of BUMDes Puja Bersinar and the challenges it encounters. Knowledge Gap: There is limited understanding of the practical implementation of oversight frameworks in BUMDes, particularly regarding community involvement and transparency. Aims: The study aims to analyze the management practices and barriers of BUMDes Puja Bersinar. Results: Findings reveal that while oversight mechanisms exist, challenges such as insufficient internal audits and limited community engagement hinder effective management. Novelty: This research provides new insights into the operational dynamics of BUMDes, emphasizing the need for better participatory practices. Implications: Enhancing financial report transparency and establishing community feedback forums could significantly improve BUMDes management and promote sustainable community welfare outcomes. Knowledge Development of the Beard Community through Socialization of Community Empowerment of Toga, Chili and Eggplant Plants

The community service program in Jenggot Village, Krembung District, Sidoarjo Regency, aims to improve the welfare of village communities through empowering family medicinal plants (TOGA), chili and eggplant. This program is implemented with the KKN-T scheme and the theme "Collaboration with the Community for Progressive Villages and Branches". Jenggot Village faces challenges in overcoming pests and diseases in Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) as well as chili and eggplant plants which often reduce harvest yields. The methods used included observation, outreach, and giving away 400 chili and eggplant seeds for free. As a result, the people of Jenggot village gained understanding and insight into the empowerment of family medicinal plants, chili and eggplant, and were able to overcome the challenges they faced in dealing with pests and diseases in plants

An Empirical Evaluation of Eritrean Expatriates in the USA

The number of Eritreans leaving Eritrea in search of a better life and future in foreign countries has increased in the past years. As a consequence of the conflict that has erupted between Ethiopia and Eritrea, Eritrean communities in the USA have established organizations and consortiums in order to encourage their members to work together towards common goals. The aim of this research study is to investigate and evaluate the positive and negative sides of being a first-generation Eritrean expatriate in the USA through empirical qualitative interviews with 20 respondents. The study begins with the backstory of the respondents regarding the reasons why they moved to the USA in the first place. It then goes on to examine the respondents' acculturation process in terms of Eritrean culture and American culture. Furthermore, the results from the interviews are analyzed and evaluated in terms of supporting and opposing arguments, as well as implications, applications, and recommendations for future similar research projects. The research study provides insight into the experiences of Eritrean expatriates in the USA, making it useful for anyone who has an interest in the lives of expatriates. Additionally, it is believed that the findings of this research project will be useful for organizations that concern themselves with the welfare of Eritrean communities abroad.

Perceived social, economic, environmental and health effects of solid waste management practices in logia town, afar, ethiopia

Improper solid waste management in urban and semi-urban areas has led to adverse impacts on the environment, public health, and the economic well-being of communities. Therefore, this study analyzes the status of household solid waste management practices and their effects in Logia Town, Afar, Ethiopia. To achieve this objective, the study utilizes both descriptive and econometric models (binary logistic regression model). The descriptive results of the study revealed that there is general awareness of the importance of solid waste management (SWM) and its impact on the environment, economy, and human health among the respondents. Regarding respondents’ attitudes, the majority of households understand the responsibility of proper waste disposal and its impact. However, in terms of solid waste management practices, 80% of households do not properly segregate their waste, 59.3% do not separate solid waste (SW) before disposal, and 74% of households engage in improper disposal practices. About 95.9% of respondents were aware that improper waste management can lead to diseases such as diarrhea, typhoid, and cholera. Around 65% of the sampled households considered solid waste as a source of wealth, and, as a result, 56% of them reuse, recycle, and reduce waste. This indicates that solid waste has economic value for society. Regarding the environmental impact of SW, about 89% of respondents argued that SW adversely affects the environment by polluting rivers, lakes, wells, and air. This environmental impact negatively affects the well-being and economic status of the community. The binary logistic regression model found that having adequate solid waste landfills, access to door-to-door solid waste collection, knowledge of SWM rules and regulations, treating waste as a resource, and understanding the 3Rs (recycle, reuse, reduce) had positive and significant effects on the adoption of proper solid waste management practices in the study area. Therefore, to reduce undesirable effects and improve the value of SW, the relevant authorities should provide adequate solid waste landfills and door-to-door collection services, create awareness about SWM rules and regulations, and promote knowledge of the 3Rs.

Advancing noise reduction strategies for domestic air-source heat pumps

With the increasing adoption of heat pump technology in the energy sector, addressing noise emissions is crucial for public acceptance, regulatory compliance, and sustainable urban planning. Air-Source Heat Pump's noise emission, noise sources, reduction strategies, problematic frequency ranges, and noise transmission within buildings are considered. Various noise reduction strategies, including the strategic siting, enclosures, and vibration isolation techniques, are discussed. This study considered a scenario of heat pump noise emission which generated noise complaints. The heat pump noise source is investigated though 24 hour monitoring of far field acoustics in a suburban residence. A commercial implementation of ISO 9613 is used to predict the environmental noise impact. Results demonstrated that levels exceeded natural background by as much as 10-15 dB but that this could be mitigated through strategic placement of the heat pump. This study underscores the importance of implementing comprehensive noise control strategies for Air-Source Heat Pumps in urban areas to safeguard community well-being and ensure regulatory compliance. By integrating innovative noise reduction technologies and considering factors such as strategic location of Air-Source Heat Pump, installation practices, building design, and proper urban planning policies can enhance Air-Source Heat Pump's reliability while promoting a sustainable urban development.

Village Consultative Body's Contributions to Development in Balongdowo Village

Background: Village consultative bodies (BPD) play a vital role in promoting good governance at the local level. Specific Background: This study examines the implementation of BPD's roles in a specific village context, focusing on their effectiveness in enhancing transparency and participation. Knowledge Gap: Existing literature lacks exploration of the practical applications of BPD roles and their impact on governance across different regions. Aims: This research analyzes how BPD executes its responsibilities, emphasizing its regulatory functions. Results: Findings show that BPD effectively implements its regulatory roles, contributing to improved village governance through adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and strong budgetary support from the local government. Novelty: This study highlights the collaboration between BPD and local government, providing a replicable model of good governance. Analisis Strategi Manajemen Badan Amil Zakat Nasional Sibolga Berdasarkan Analisis SWOTt

This research aims to evaluate the dominant internal and external factors affecting the effectiveness of managing Zakat, Infaq, and Sedekah (ZIS) at BAZNAS Sibolga. The research method involves SWOT analysis to identify Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats in ZIS management. The analysis results indicate that Management Strengths and Operational Efficiency are the strongest internal aspects with a score of 92%, while Weaknesses such as Limited Resources and Inconsistent Implementation require more attention. To enhance effectiveness, Potential Collaborations and Government Support are considered key opportunities with scores of 100% and 85%, respectively. Threats such as Policy Changes and Competition need to be anticipated. In conclusion, optimizing Operational Efficiency with a focus on the collection and utilization of ZIS funds is key to improving community welfare and reducing poverty in Sibolga.

Optimalisasi Potensi Lokal oleh Bumdes Berkarya dalam Pengembangan Desa Wisata Wonorejo, Kabupaten Karanganyar

This research aims to identify, analyze, and describe the development of the tourist village through the utilization of local potential by BUMDes Berkarya in Wonorejo Tourist Village, Jatiyoso District, Karanganyar Regency. This study uses descriptive research methods with a qualitative approach, employing data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The theory used in this research involves tourism destination elements consisting of five focuses: tourist attractions, attractions, tourist facilities and general facilities, accessibility, and brand images. The results of this research indicate that the development of the tourist village through the utilization of local potential by BUMDes Berkarya in Wonorejo Tourist Village is quite good and aligns with existing theories. However, there are still some shortcomings that need to be improved and further developed, such as incorporating local culture as an attraction, adding facilities, and improving accessibility to facilitate easier access. These improvements aim to achieve the goal of tourism development, which is to attract tourist visits and enhance community welfare.

Pencapaian Diferensiasi Produk Melalui Strategi Inovasi dan Kreativitas Usaha Mikro Kecil dan Menengah

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play an important role in the Indonesian economy, but often face challenges such as limited access to technology, quality of human resources, and marketing. This community service activity aims to help MSMEs achieve product differentiation through innovation and creativity strategies. The methods used include theoretical training and practical workshops. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' knowledge and skills in developing innovative products and creative marketing strategies. Evaluation through questionnaires and interviews showed participant satisfaction and increased sales after implementing new strategies. Challenges faced included limited resources and time, which were overcome through collaboration with related institutions and follow-up programs. Thus, this activity succeeded in increasing the competitiveness of MSMEs in local and international markets, as well as contributing to the national economy. The sustainability of the program is pursued through ongoing mentoring programs and the formation of MSME innovation communities. These results show that innovation and creativity strategies can be an effective solution to overcome the challenges faced by MSMEs and improve community welfare.

Implementasi Program Waqaf Tunai dalam Pengentasan Kemiskinan di Indonesia

Cash waqf is a philanthropic concept that aims to collect funds from the community through donations which are then invested in building social, educational, health and economic infrastructure. This research aims to analyze the implementation of the cash waqf program in overcoming poverty in Indonesia. The research method used is literature study and analysis of secondary data related to the implementation of the cash waqf program in Indonesia, as well as its impact on improving community welfare. The research results show that the implementation of the cash waqf program has made a positive contribution in reducing poverty levels in Indonesia. These programs include the establishment of education centers, development of health infrastructure, business capital assistance for underprivileged communities, and local economic empowerment programs. However, there are still challenges in optimizing and managing waqf funds as well as developing sustainable programs to increase their wider impact. In conclusion, the implementation of the cash waqf program has great potential in overcoming poverty in Indonesia, but good coordination is needed between the government, sharia financial institutions and the community to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of the program. This research provides useful insights for stakeholders in developing strategies and policies that support the growth of cash waqf as an effective instrument in alleviating poverty.

The general background food security is a critical global challenge that influences community well-being and development. The specific background in rural contexts, community empowerment is vital for addressing food security issues; however, the mechanisms and dynamics of such empowerment are often underexplored. The knowledge gap while existing literature emphasizes the importance of empowerment, there is a lack of detailed studies focusing on specific strategies that effectively enhance community resilience in food security. The aims this research aims to describe and analyze the empowerment of community groups in achieving food security, using a case study approach in a specific rural area. Results the study reveals that key indicators—authority, confidence and competence, trust, opportunities, responsibilities, and support—play significant roles in empowering community groups, leading to improved food security outcomes. The novelty this research introduces a comprehensive framework that interlinks these indicators, providing new insights into their collective impact on community food security initiatives.
