PURPOSE: In this research, some obese fatty liver patients are followed to study the effects of walking on body mass index(BMI), insulin resistance (IR), with the hope of providing theoretical foundation for using the sport rehabilitation method to cure the obese fatty liver disease. METHODS: By questionnaire survey, type-B ultrasonic and routine medical examinations, 58 subjects fit the diagnostic criteria of obese fatty liver disease who do not have any serious diseases like cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, renal disease, hypertension and sports contraindications at the same time, aged between 45-60. These subjects are randomly divided into experimental group (n=38) and control group (n=20). Lower limbs function bicycle ergometers are used to measure the functional capability (F.C) before the experiment. During the experiment, subjects of the experimental group walking with exercise intensity of 40-50%F.C at the beginning. Four weeks later, the exercise intensity should be increased to 50-60%F.C, the exercise intensity are controlled by corresponding heart rate. Excising duration lasts from 20-30min/day increase to 40-60min/day, and the increasing process could be completed for one or two times. In the twelve weeks of experiment, the exercise frequency of subjects commonly should be 4-5 times/week. The lifestyles of subjects in the control group do not change. Indicators as weight, BMI, PBF, blood glucose (GLU), insulin of the subjects in the two groups should be tested before and after the experiment. RESULTS: Before the experiment, weight, BMI, blood glucose (5.82+1.19mmol/L), insulin(26.84+9.52μIU/ml) of all the subjects are higher than the normal level, and there is no significant difference (P>0.05). Insulin resistance index (IRI) shows the trend of rising. Twelve weeks of walking make the weight(73.58+12.63 vs 70.91+10.53 kg, P<0.01), BMI(28.37+3.82 vs 27.08+3.45 kg /m2, P<0.01) of the subjects reduce distinctly, reduce the Insulin resistance index (IRI) (3.26+1.24 vs 2.13+0.97,P<0.01), while the subjects in the control group has no significant change. CONCLUSIONS: Patients of obese fatty liver disease have the syndrome of insulin resistance. Walking could make the weight, BMI reduce distinctly, ameliorate IR distinctly.
