Investigating Data Diversity and Model Robustness of AI Applications in Palliative Care and Hospice: Protocol for Scoping Review.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a pivotal element in health care, leading to significant advancements across various medical domains, including palliative care and hospice services. These services focus on improving the quality of life for patients with life-limiting illnesses, and AI's ability to process complex datasets can enhance decision-making and personalize care in these sensitive settings. However, incorporating AI into palliative and hospice care requires careful examination to ensure it reflects the multifaceted nature of these settings. This scoping review aims to systematically map the landscape of AI in palliative care and hospice settings, focusing on the data diversity and model robustness. The goal is to understand AI's role, its clinical integration, and the transparency of its development, ultimately providing a foundation for developing AI applications that adhere to established ethical guidelines and principles. Our scoping review involves six stages: (1) identifying the research question; (2) identifying relevant studies; (3) study selection; (4) charting the data; (5) collating, summarizing, and reporting the results; and (6) consulting with stakeholders. Searches were conducted across databases including MEDLINE through PubMed, Embase.com, IEEE Xplore, ClinicalTrials.gov, and Web of Science Core Collection, covering studies from the inception of each database up to November 1, 2023. We used a comprehensive set of search terms to capture relevant studies, and non-English records were excluded if their abstracts were not in English. Data extraction will follow a systematic approach, and stakeholder consultations will refine the findings. The electronic database searches conducted in November 2023 resulted in 4614 studies. After removing duplicates, 330 studies were selected for full-text review to determine their eligibility based on predefined criteria. The extracted data will be organized into a table to aid in crafting a narrative summary. The review is expected to be completed by May 2025. This scoping review will advance the understanding of AI in palliative care and hospice, focusing on data diversity and model robustness. Patient's Perspective on Miniscrews During Orthodontic Treatment-A Systematic Review With Meta-Analysis.

During orthodontic treatment, undesirable reciprocal forces are generated during tooth movement, which explains the use of anchorage strategies to minimise their harmful effects through intra and/or extraoral appliances. Miniscrews are intraoral devices used for temporary skeletal anchorage. Miniscrews are small-sized intraoral devices used for temporary skeletal anchorage and are easy to place and remove. However, some studies refer to adverse effects such as inflammation, pain, and discomfort. This systematic review aims to synthesise the available evidence on the use of miniscrews during orthodontic treatment from the patient's perspective. The literature search was conducted using various databases MedLine through PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science Core Collection, and EMBASE. A search was also carried out in the grey literature. The search terms used were "Orthodontic Anchorage Procedures," "mini-implant," "Mini Dental Implant," "Miniscrew," and "microimplant." Cochrane risk of bias tools was used to assess the quality of included studies. Patients tend to overestimate the pain inherent in this procedure. The insertion of micro implants is more accepted than the tooth extraction procedure, with less postoperative pain reported. The location, surgical technique, and type of anaesthesia used in the placement of miniscrews influence levels of discomfort. Additionally, the execution of a good surgical technique and the clinician's communication skills are factors that influence patient satisfaction and positive perception. The most frequent outcome reported is pain and discomfort, which varies depending on its location (less with mini interradicular screws than with extra-alveolar screws). Most patients are satisfied or very satisfied with this application.

Measuring Nurses' Knowledge and Awareness of Climate Change and Climate-Associated Diseases: Systematic Review of Existing Instruments.

As early as 1995, the Institute of Medicine suggested that nurses were inadequately prepared for and educated about climate change and its health consequences. The aim of this systematic review is to identify the most reliable, robust, and valid instruments for measuring nurses' knowledge and awareness of climate change and climate-associated diseases. Included studies were appraised using the Mixed-Methods Appraisal Tool and the Appraisal tool for Cross-Sectional Studies. The psychometrics and clinimetrics of the instruments were evaluated using the COSMIN Risk of Bias checklist and the COSMIN methodology for assessing content validity. Medline, PubMed, Embase, CINAHL Ebesco, Cochrane Library Wiley, Web of Science Core Collection, Trip Database, JBI OVID SP, GreenFILE EBSCO, Google Scholar, ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global, and DART-EU were consulted. The 14 studies retained identified eight different instruments evaluating attitudes, perceptions, environmental awareness, environmental sensitivity, environmental attitudes, behaviours, motivation, concern, optimism, and experience. This review is reported according to the PRISMA guidelines. The New Ecological Paradigm Scale (NEPS) and the Climate, Health, and Nursing Tool (CHANT) are the most reliable, robust, and valid instruments for measuring nurses' knowledge and awareness of climate change and climate-associated diseases.

Understanding the performance of geographic limits on Web of Science Core Collection databases, using the United Kingdom as an example.

To consider the approaches within Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) databases for limiting geographically. To compare the limits to an adaptation of NICE's UK MEDLINE filter for use on WoSCC databases. We tested and appraised the inbuilt functions and search field options that support identification by countries/regions and affiliations. We compared these with an adapted filter to identify healthcare research on or about the UK. We calculated the recall of the inbuilt limits and filter using 177 studies and investigated why records were missed. We also calculated the percentage reduction of the overall number-needed-to-screen (ONNS). Inbuilt limits within WoSCC enable identification of research from specific countries/regions or affiliations if there is data in the address field. Refining by affiliations allows retrieval of research where affiliations are in the 200 or 500 most frequent for a set of results. An adaptation of the UK MEDLINE filter achieved an average of 97% recall. ONNS was significantly reduced using the filter. However, studies where the countries or regions are only mentioned within the full text or other non-searchable fields will be missed. Information specialists should consider how inbuilt geographic limits operate on WoSCC and whether these are suitable for their research. The adapted filter can sensitively limit to the UK and could be useful for systematic reviews due to its high recall and ability to significantly reduce ONNS. Geographic filters can be feasible to adapt for use on WoSCC databases (where similar search fields are used between platforms).

Bibliometric analysis of occupational exposure in operating room from 1973 to 2022

ObjectiveThe purpose of this study is to identify and visualize from different perspectives the topic on occupational exposure in operating room (OEOR).MethodsIn the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC), all the half-century data were retrieved from January 1st, 1973 to December 31st, 2022. CiteSpace, VOSviewer and Excel 2019 were employed to analyze and visualize data, based on publications, countries, institutions, journals, authors, keywords.ResultA total of 336 journal papers were found. The increase of publications virtually started in 1991, peaked in 2020 and has been slowing down ever since. USA played most significant part among all the 49 countries/regions, while Universidade Estadual Paulista out of 499 institutions published the most papers. International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health bears the most documents and citations in all the 219 retrieved journals. There are 1847 authors found, among whom Hoerauf K is the most influential one. "Occupational exposure”, “nitrous oxide” and “operating room personnel” are the top 3 co-occurrences keywords.ConclusionThe trend in the field lies in “anaesthetic gas”, “blood borne pathogen”, “radiation” and “aerosol”, while “surgical smoke” and “occupational safety” are the recently researching hot spots in this study. Accurate recognize and effective protection are always essential subjects for researchers.

A bibliometric analysis of cerebral small vessel disease.

Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is a significant contributor to both stroke and dementia. While numerous studies on CSVD have been published, herein, we have conducted a bibliometric examination of the literature on CSVD, revealing its hot spots and emerging patterns. We used the Web of Science Core Collection as our primary database and conducted a literature search from January 2008 to January 2023. CiteSpace, VOSviewer, online bibliometric platform, and R-bibliometrix were employed to conduct bibliometric analysis and network visualization, including the number of publications, countries, institutions, journals, citations, authors, references, and keywords. A total of 4891 publications on CSVD were published in 790 journals by 19,066 authors at 3,862 institutions from 84 countries. The United States produced the most written works and had a significant impact in this field of study. The University of Edinburgh had the highest publication count overall. The journal with the most publications and co-citations was Stroke. Wardlaw, Joanna was the most prolific author and commonly cited in the field. The current areas of research interest revolved around "MRI segmentation" and "Enlarged perivascular spaces in the basal ganglia." We conducted a bibliometric analysis to examine the advancements, focal points, and cutting-edge areas in the field of CSVD to reveal potential future research opportunities. Research on CSVD is currently rapidly advancing, with a consistent rise in publications on the topic since 2008. At the same time, we identified leading countries, institutions, and leading scholars in the field and analyzed journals and representative literature. Keyword co-occurrence analysis and burst graph emergence detection identified MRI segmentation and Basal ganglia enlarged perivascular spaces as the most recent areas of research interest.

Tools, Technologies and Frameworks for Digital Twins in the Oil and Gas Industry: An In-Depth Analysis

The digital twin (DT), which involves creating a virtual replica of a physical asset or system, has emerged as a transformative set of tools across various industries. In the oil and gas (O&G) industry, the development of DTs represents a significant evolution in how companies manage complex operations, enhance safety, and optimize decision-making processes. Despite these significant advancements, the underlying tools, technologies, and frameworks for developing DTs in O&G applications remain non-standardized and unfamiliar to many O&G practitioners, highlighting the need for a systematic literature review (SLR) on the topic. Thus, this paper offers an SLR of the existing literature on DT development for O&G from 2018 onwards, utilizing Scopus and Web of Science Core Collection. We provide a comprehensive overview of this field, demonstrate how it is evolving, and highlight standard practices and research opportunities in the area. We perform broad classifications of the 98 studies, categorizing the DTs by their development methodologies, implementation objectives, data acquisition, asset digital development, data integration and preprocessing, data analysis and modeling, evaluation and validation, and deployment tools. We also include a bibliometric analysis of the selected papers, highlighting trends and key contributors. Given the increasing number of new DT developments in O&G and the many new technologies available, we hope to provide guidance on the topic and promote knowledge production and growth concerning the development of DTs for O&G.

Small cyst size and lack of growth as negative predictors of malignant transformation in low-risk intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms of the pancreas: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

For branch-duct intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (BD-IPMNs) without worrisome features (WFs) or high-risk stigmata (HRS), current guidelines recommend surveillance. However, these intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMNs), especially the small and stable-sized ones, carry a low risk of malignant transformation. Our aim was to assess whether small cyst size and absence of rapid growth provide reassurance against the development of WFs/HRS and malignancy (high-grade dysplasia (HGD) or pancreatic cancer (PC)). PubMed/Medline, Embase, the Cochrane Library and the Web of Science Core Collection were systematically searched from inception to May 2023 to identify studies investigating surveillance outcomes of low-risk BD-IPMNs. Studies assessing baseline cyst size and/or growth in relation to WFs/HRS and/or HGD/PC were included. The Newcastle-Ottawa scale tool was used to assess study quality. Of the 1937 identified manuscripts, 21 studies were eligible for inclusion. The quality of these studies was considered reasonable. A negative association between cyst size and WFs/HRS development was found in 11 out of 13 relevant studies, but only one out of nine studies reported a negative association between size and malignancy. Regarding cyst growth, four out of six studies described a negative association with the development of WFs/HRS, and all six reported a negative association with malignancy. The pooled relative risk (RR) of developing WFs/HRS or malignancy for cysts ≤15mm was 0.37 (95% CI 0.25-0.57) and the RR of developing malignancy for cyst growth <2-2.5mm/year was 0.04 (95% CI 0.02-0.09)). This systematic review and meta-analysis shows that small and stable-sized low-risk BD-IPMNs are associated with a markedly low progression rate, with stable cyst size being the most reassuring feature. Because of substantial heterogeneity in definitions and reported outcome measures, prospective studies are needed to confirm that surveillance of small and stable sized cyst can be de-intensified or even discontinued.

Research Hotspots and Trend Analysis in Modeling Groundwater Dense Nonaqueous Phase Liquid Contamination Based on Bibliometrics

Groundwater contamination by dense nonaqueous phase liquids (DNAPLs) poses a severe environmental threat due to their persistence and toxicity. Modeling DNAPL contamination is essential for understanding their distribution, predicting contaminant spread, and developing effective remediation strategies, but it is also challenging due to their complex multiphase behavior. Over the past few decades, researchers have developed various models, including multiphase flow, mass transfer, and solute transport models, to simulate the distribution of DNAPLs. To understand the research trends in DNAPL modeling in groundwater, a bibliometric analysis was conducted using CiteSpace based on 614 publications from the WoS Core Collection database (1993–2023). The publications were statistically analyzed, and the research hotspots and trends were summarized. The statistical analysis of the publications indicates that the United States is leading the international research on DNAPL models, followed by China and Canada; the collaboration between countries and disciplines in this field needs to be strengthened. Keyword clustering and burst detection reveal that the current research hotspots focus on multiphase flow models, mass transfer models, back diffusion, and practical applications of the models; the research trends are centered on back diffusion mechanisms, the characterization of contamination source zones, and prediction of the contaminant distribution at real-world sites, as well as optimization of the remediation strategies.

Factors affecting outdoor physical activity (OPA) in children and adolescents: A systematic review and meta-analysis

AimThe outdoor physical activity (OPA) of children and adolescents in the "Z" era decreased sharply compared with the previous generation, and the purpose of this study is to explore the factors that influence children and adolescents’ participation in OPA. MethodFor this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched Eric, PsycArtical, PsycINFO, Pubmed, Pubmed, Medline, SCOPUS, Web of Science Core Collection, CNKI, and the search ending date was March 20, 2024.The quality of the evidence was assessed with the crosssectional study tool (Appraisal tool for Cro-SS-Sectional Studies, AXIS).Employing meta-analysis to evaluate the strength of evidence for the influencing factors. ResultsResults show that, in the dimension of basic demographic characteristics, parents' educational level and family income are significant factors affecting children and adolescents' participation in OPA. In the dimension of family characteristics, parents' attitudes towards their children and adolescents' participation in OPA, as well as their encouragement and support, are significant factors influencing participation, but the factor of parents' attitudes is unstable. In the dimension of perceived social environment, perceived community cohesion, community safety, and peer support are significant factors affecting children and adolescents’ participation in OPA, but the factors of community safety and peer support are unstable. In the dimension of the physical environment, access to activity facilities is the only significant influencing factor. SuggestionThe factors affecting the participation of children and adolescents in OPA are relatively complex. It is suggested to consider building child-friendly communities from many aspects to increase OPA for children and adolescents to enhance their physical health and mental health.

Existing evidence on the effect of urban forest management in carbon solutions and avian conservation: a systematic literature map

BackgroundUrgent solutions are needed in cities to mitigate twin crises of global climate change and biodiversity loss. Urban nature-based solutions (actions that protect, sustainably manage, and restore ecosystems while simultaneously providing human wellbeing and biodiversity benefits) are being advocated for as multi-functional tools capable of tackling these societal challenges. Urban forest management is a proposed nature-based solution with potential to address both climate change mitigation and biodiversity loss along with multiple other benefits. However, bodies of evidence measuring multiple outcomes (e.g., biodiversity conservation and nature-based climate solutions) remain siloed which limits conservation and management opportunities. In this article, we present a systematic map of the literature on urban forest management strategies that measure both biodiversity goals (through avian conservation) and climate change mitigation goals (through carbon storage and sequestration).MethodsFollowing a published protocol, we searched for evidence related to urban forest management strategies for (1) avian conservation and (2) carbon solutions within the global temperate region in academic and grey literature. In addition to Scopus, ProQuest and Web of Science Core Collection, we searched 21 specialist websites. We screened English language documents using predefined inclusion criteria on titles and abstracts, and then full texts. All qualifying literature items were coded, and metadata were extracted. No study validity appraisal was conducted. We identified knowledge clusters and gaps related to forest management strategies for both topics.Review findingsOur searches identified 19,073 articles published, of which 5445 were duplicates. The title and abstract screening removed a further 11,019 articles. After full-text screening (1762 and 1406), a total of 277 avian and 169 forest carbon literature items met the eligibility criteria and were included in the final database. We found a large knowledge base for broad-scale avian metrics: abundance, species richness. We similarly found that both avian and carbon solutions most often used broad-scale forest management components: land use type, composition, and forested area and least often considered fragmentation, connectivity, and diversity metrics (abundance, richness). The most understudied avian metrics were foraging, resources, and survival while the most understudied carbon solutions metrics were soil carbon, dead wood and organic matter and infrastructure. Avian literature most often used an experimental design (56% with comparator, 44% no comparator) while forest carbon solutions literature was dominated by observational studies (86%). In both topics, studies most often occurred over short timelines between 0 and 1 and 2–5 years. The body of evidence for both avian and carbon outcomes present a scale-mismatch between the scale of forest management strategy (e.g., land use type) and scale of application (e.g., patch). For example, the majority of studies considered forest strategies at broad scales, like land use type or composition, yet were conducted at a patch or multi-patch scale. Our systematic map also highlights that multi-city and regional urban scales are underrepresented in both carbon solutions and avian conservation and will require additional research efforts. Finally, we highlight gaps in the inclusion of recommendations in both bodies of literature. Roughly 30% of articles in each topic’s database did not include recommendations for practitioners or researchers.ConclusionsOur systematic map provides a database and identifies knowledge gaps and clusters of urban forest management strategies for (1) avian conservation and (2) carbon solutions. Overall, our map will allow researchers to fill existing gaps in literature through new research investigations, meta-analyses or systematic reviews while also pointing policymakers toward strong knowledge bases in addition to understudied or mismatched areas that require more funding.Graphical

Tools like CiteSpace and VOSviewer assessed the research landscape, evaluating core authors, journals, and contributing countries. Keyword co-occurrence analyses identified research trends. A total of 2504 articles were retrieved, showing a consistent increase in publications. The Journal of Neurotrauma had the highest publication volume and influence. The most prolific author was Cuzzocrea S, with Popovich PG having the highest H-index. China led in the number of publications, followed closely by the United States, which had the highest impact and extensive international collaboration. Research mainly focused on nerve function recovery, glial scar formation, and oxidative stress. Future research is expected to investigate cellular autophagy, vesicular transport, and related signaling pathways. The growing interest in inflammation caused by spinal cord injury is evident, with current research focusing on oxidative stress, glial scar, and neurological recovery. Future directions include exploring autophagy and extracellular vesicles for new therapies. Interdisciplinary research and extensive clinical trials are essential for validating new treatments. Biomarker discovery is crucial for diagnosis and monitoring, while understanding autophagy and signaling pathways is vital for drug development. Global cooperation is needed to accelerate the application of scientific findings, improving spinal cord injury treatment.

Global hotspots and trends in gut mycological research: a visual analytics and bibliometric approach.

Recent findings highlight the significant impact of intestinal fungi on the complex makeup of the gut microbiota and human health, challenging past oversights. However, a lack of thorough systematic and quantitative analyses remains. This study aims to address this gap by thoroughly examining the current research on gut fungi. Through analyzing developments and unique features in this area, our goal is to foster a deeper understanding and identify future research pathways. We performed an extensive bibliometric analysis on documents from 2000 to 2023, sourced from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). Utilizing advanced visualization tools such as VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Bibliometrix R, we meticulously examined and illustrated the data in scientific landscapes and networks. A total of 1434 papers were analyzed, revealing a substantial increase in publication volume over the past two decades, particularly in 2020. Contributions came from 67 countries, 2178 institutions, and 8,479 authors. China led in publication output with 468 articles, followed by the University of California with 84 articles, and ZHANG F as the most prolific author with 17 articles. Emerging research areas such as "Fungal-Bacteria Interactions," "Gut Fungus and Gut-Brain Axis," and "Gut Fungus and Immunity" are expected to attract growing interest in the future. This extensive bibliometric analysis offers a current overview of scholarly efforts concerning intestinal fungi, highlighting the predominant landscape in this field. These insights can assist scholars in identifying appropriate publication avenues, forming collaborative relationships, and enhancing understanding of key themes and emerging areas, thereby stimulating future research endeavors.

Research trends and hotspots of post-stroke upper limb dysfunction: a bibliometric and visualization analysis.

The global prevalence of stroke has been increasing. Motor dysfunction is observed in approximately 55 to 75% of stroke patients, with upper limb impairment affecting around 85% of them. Following upper limb dysfunction, the body's recovery time is not only slower compared to the lower limbs, but the restoration of its fine motor skills is significantly more challenging, greatly impacting the daily lives of patients. Consequently, there is an increasing urgency for study on the upper limb function in stroke. A search was conducted in the Web of Science Core Collection: Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-Expanded) database for material published from January 1, 2004 to December 31, 2023. We included all relevant literature reports and conducted an analysis of annual publications, countries/regions, institutions, journals, co-cited references, and keywords using the software packages CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Bibliometrix R. Next, we succinctly outlined the research trends and hotspots in post-stroke upper limb dysfunction. This analysis comprised 1,938 articles from 1,897 institutions, 354 journals, and 53 countries or regions. A yearly rise in the production of publications was noted. The United States is the foremost nation on the issue. Northwestern University has the most amounts of papers compared to all other institutions. The journal Neurorehabilitation and Neural Repair is a highly significant publication in this field, with Catherine E. Lang serving as the principal author. The majority of the most-cited references focus on subjects such as the reliability and validity of assessment instruments, RCT of therapies, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses. The intervention measures primarily comprise three types of high-frequency phrases that are related, as determined by keyword analysis: intelligent rehabilitation, physical factor therapy, and occupational therapy. Current areas of focus in research include randomized clinical trials, neurorehabilitation, and robot-assisted therapy. Current research has shown a growing interest in studying upper limb function assessment, occupational therapy, physical therapy, robot-assisted therapy, virtual reality, brain-computer interface, telerehabilitation, cortical reorganisation, and neural plasticity. These topics have become popular and are expected to be the focus of future research.

The objective of this bibliometric analysis is to map the landscape of ovarian cancer radiomics research from 2010 to 2024, emphasizing its growth, global contributions, and the impact of emerging technologies on early diagnosis and treatment strategies. A comprehensive search was conducted using the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC), focusing on publications related to radiomics and ovarian cancer within the specified period. Analytical tools such as VOSviewer and CiteSpace were employed to visualize trends, collaborations, and key contributions, while the R programming environment offered further statistical insights. From the initial dataset, 149 articles were selected, showing a significant increase in research output, especially in the years 2021-2023. The analysis revealed a dominant contribution from China, with significant inputs from England. Major institutional contributors included the University of Cambridge and GE Healthcare. 'Frontiers in Oncology' emerged as a crucial journal in the field, according to Bradford's Law. Keyword analysis highlighted the focus on advanced imaging techniques and machine learning. The steady growth in ovarian cancer radiomics research reflects its critical role in advancing diagnostic and prognostic methodologies, underscoring the potential of radiomics in the shift towards personalized medicine. Despite some methodological challenges, the field's dynamic evolution suggests a promising future for radiomics in enhancing the accuracy of ovarian cancer diagnosis and treatment, contributing to improved patient care and outcomes.

Global Incidence and Trends of Ocular cancer: A bibliometric analysis

BackgroundOcular cancer represents a significant threat to vision and life among various eye diseases. Conjunctival melanoma is regarded as one of the most feared and unpredictable ocular tumors. Considering the global differences in the occurrence of ocular melanoma across different races and regions, this study provides a thorough examination of the current state of research pertaining to the epidemiology of ocular and conjunctival cancers. MethodsThis bibliometrics analysis used the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) to collect data from publications on the epidemiology of ocular cancer, including relevant literature from 1951 to 2024. We examined indicators including t publication counts, citation rates, and data on contributing countries, institutions, and journals. Use VOSviewer and CiteSpace for network visualization and Microsoft Excel for data management. Our analysis reveals key trends in the epidemiology of ocular cancer across countries and identifies prominent keywords. ResultsA total of 406 articles on ocular cancer were identified, with significant contributions from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany. Key terms in ocular cancer research focus on prevalence, survival, and epidemiology, while conjunctival cancer studies emphasize malignant melanoma, conjunctiva, and epidemiology. Through keyword co-occurrence and burst analysis, trending topics include prevalence, risk factors, uveal melanoma, choroidal melanoma, malignant melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and conjunctiva. For conjunctival cancer, key research areas expected to remain prominent are cell carcinoma, management, recurrence, ocular surface squamous neoplasia, and pathology. ConclusionThis analysis represents the first comprehensive bibliometric review mapping the trends and the knowledge structure in ocular cancer research, specifically from an epidemiological viewpoint. The results meticulously explore and encapsulate the research frontiers for scholars dedicated to the epidemiology of conjunctival cancer.

Research Hotspots of Acupuncture Treatment for Myopia Over the Past Decade: A Bibliometric Analysis (2014-2023).

To explore the research hotspots in acupuncture treatment for myopia from 2014 to 2023. A comprehensive search was conducted in the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI-E) within the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC). We used CiteSpace 6.2.R6 to perform an in-depth analysis of the annual publication trends, prolific authors, institutions, keyword co-occurrences, and citation bursts. The study followed the PICO framework: the population (P) includes studies on patients with myopia, the intervention (I) is acupuncture treatment, no direct comparison (C) is applied, and the primary outcome (O) focuses on the identification of research trends and hotspots. Major outcome assessments included the analysis of publication trends over time, author productivity, influential journals, and the detection of emerging research topics through citation burst analysis. This bibliometric analysis was conducted on November 15, 2023. A total of 281 articles were included in the analysis. The trend line of annual publications over the past decade showed a modest increase, with a significant decline in 2019 and a surge in 2021. China and its affiliated academic institutions led globally in publication volume, with Ma Xiaopeng being the most prolific author and Fudan University the most influential institution. Ophthalmology emerged as the journal with the highest citation frequency. The most frequently occurring keywords were related to adolescent myopia and its complications. The developmental trajectory of the field is distinct, characterized by the integration of a single discipline. Acupuncture shows promise as a complementary and alternative therapy for treating myopia, with growing interest in its clinical efficacy and mechanisms of action. Future research is likely to focus on optimizing treatment protocols and understanding the underlying biological mechanisms of acupuncture in myopia management.

A comprehensive risk assessment of microplastics in soil, water, and atmosphere: Implications for human health and environmental safety

Microplastics (MPs) are pervasive across ecosystems, likely posing significant environmental and health risks based on more and more evidence. In this study, we searched through the Web of Science Core Collection and obtained 1039 papers for visualization and analysis. In order to discuss the chemical composition, migration, transformation and potential risk of MPs, 135 sets of relevant data in soil, water, and atmosphere were collected in China as a typical region, which is a hotspot region for investigation of MPs. The results showed that the primary polymer categories of MPs in the environment to be polypropylene, polyethylene, and polystyrene. The soil contains a significant quantity of MPs, averaging at 12,107.42 items·kgdw−1, while water contains averaging at 97,271.18 items m−3. The total pollution load indexes for all three environments are at risk level I. Based on current risk assessment methods, the potential ecological risk of MPs is low. However, based on the polymer components, migration and transformation patterns, and especially the complexes with other pollutants, it indicates an increasing indirect risk. Interactions with some other pollutants are likely amplify the ecological and health risks associated with MPs. Aggregative results showed that the present risk assessment models could not assess the risks of MPs well. Thus, we suggested develop a risk assessment methodology for MPs based on relevant research progress. Some factors such as the size and form of MPs, sources and distribution, bioaccumulation, social acceptance and economic costs could be considered adding in the present risk assessment models. Finally, promotion of development and application of green chemically synthesized bioplastics such as using synthetic biology to help degrade plastics would be an alternative and sustainable option to relieve the adverse environmental and health concerns of MPs.

Research trends of traditional Chinese non-pharmacological therapy in the management of overweight and obesity from 2004 to 2023: a bibliometric study

ObjectiveTraditional Chinese non-pharmacological therapy has gained popularity in the management of overweight and obesity. This study aims to reveal trends and hotspots of global research on traditional Chinese non-pharmacological therapies for overweight and obesity. MethodsPublications on traditional Chinese non-pharmacological therapies for overweight and obesity between 2004 and 2023 were searched from the Web of Science Core Collection. Bibliometric analyses and visualization were performed using VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and R software. ResultsA total of 566 publications from 246 journals were included in this study. Annual number of publications and cited times in the field were generally increasing. China contributed the most publications, followed by the United States and Republic of Korea, and Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from China had the highest number of publications among institutions. Stener-Victorin E was not only the most productive author but also, along with Cabioglu MT, the most cited authors. Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine was both the largest source journal and the most cited journal. The highly cited references mainly consists of clinical trials, narrative reviews and systematic reviews focusing on acupuncture therapy. Keywords analysis indicated that acupuncture therapy and traditional Chinese exercise constituted the main components of traditional Chinese non-pharmacological therapy in weight management. ConclusionsThis study revealed a growing interest in traditional Chinese non-pharmacological therapies for managing overweight and obesity, with acupuncture therapies and traditional Chinese exercises as the main research focuses. This study offers insights into traditional Chinese non-pharmacological therapies in weight management, and may benefit further research.

Mapping the global research on feeding and eating disorders and autism spectrum disorder (2014–2023): A bibliometric and network analysis

ObjectiveThis study maps the global research landscape on feeding and eating disorders (FEDs) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). MethodWe used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), bibliometrics, and network analyses to assess 199 peer-reviewed articles from the Web of Science Core Collection, published between 2014 and 2023. ResultsThe results show an annual publication increase, especially in the last three years. The Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders and the European Eating Disorders Review were the main publishers. Anorexia Nervosa, Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, food selectivity, mealtime behaviors, parents, children, and females are among the most cited keywords. The main Research Areas were Psychology and Psychiatry, and Pediatrics and Psychology were the most central nodes of the network. The United Kingdom and the United States of America lead in publications and are the most central nodes in the network. King’s College London (KCL) and South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust lead the ranking of organizations, with KCL as the most central node in the network. ConclusionsOur study indicates a growing interest in research related to FEDs and ASD. The global landscape of research produced over the last ten years offers insights for future studies and interinstitutional collaborations.
