Can cross-border e-commerce development improve supply chain efficiency? Empirical evidence from China

ABSTRACT Cross-border e-commerce (CBEC) is becoming critical for a strong supply chain. Using data from Chinese listed firms and a difference-in-difference (DID) model, this paper examines the impact of CBEC development on supply chain efficiency from the perspective of enterprise inventory. CBEC significantly reduces enterprises’ non-finished goods inventory and improves supply chain efficiency. The mechanism tests reveal three ways in which CBEC optimizes enterprises’ inventory and enhances supply chain efficiency: improving the performance of upstream-facing sourcing, increasing the efficiency of enterprises’ product transformation, and optimizing downstream-facing demand coordination. The heterogeneous results suggest that CBEC has a greater impact on the supply chain efficiency of firms with high operational volatility and capital intensity and low digitization levels. Further, the effect of CBEC on the reduction of non-finished goods inventory is more significant in regions with weak infrastructure development and location endowment. This study provides empirical evidence for the emerging development topic of new international trade patterns empowering industrial supply chains.

A comprehensive review of climate information systems in the arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs) of Kenya for enhanced decision-making process

The reality of climate change has had far-reaching effects on climate and weather patterns globally. High carbon emissions have resulted in wildfires causing migration and death from natural disasters such as droughts, floods, and strong winds. Climate change has also led to reduced crop and livestock farming yields, and worsening incidences of hunger and famine. The use of climate information systems (CIS) in the Arid and Semi-Arid regions of Kenya has not been extensively reviewed. This study reviews the use of CIS in Kenya's Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) to improve decision-making and adapt to climate change. We reviewed past and present research on Kenya's ASAL counties’ smallholder farmers’ CIS use. National and international attempts to develop early warning systems through CIS to help stakeholders and end users make farm-level decisions were reviewed. Kenya leads Eastern African countries in emphasizing CIS to reduce climate change's effects on sustainable agriculture. In ASAL countries, the gap between CIS information and its applicability for smallholder farmers’ farm-level decisions, low finance, weak infrastructure, and limited capability are major issues. Limited indigenous knowledge integration and the absence of regular updates and end-user co-development were also noted. Despite these obstacles, CIS can improve decision-making, catastrophe risk management, and socioeconomic growth in these places. Tailored CIS solutions are essential to address the specific needs of smallholder farmers in ASAL regions. Improved coordination and leveraging newer technologies are crucial for effective CIS implementation.

Optimising co-design processes in telemedicine innovation-developing a telemedical solution for emergency medical services.

Stakeholder engagement plays a vital role in driving advancements in product development. This imperative now extends to the healthcare domain, driven by the scarcity of healthcare professionals and the pressing demand for effective solutions. Through the application of design thinking and co-design methodologies, this study endeavours to promote comprehensive stakeholder involvement, creating streamlined processes and adaptable templates geared towards fostering innovative solutions for tele-emergency medicine. In this study design thinking and co-design methods are developed, adapted, and tested, to create effective tools and demonstrate their application. This is part of a process involving stakeholders and lead users to develop a telemedicine solution for emergency medical services. This research is descriptive in kind, offering a transparent and holistic portrayal of the co-design process. The rural region of Burgenland in Austria was chosen for this study, with the challenges of its weak infrastructure offering valuable insights. The tools were tested in co-design workshops, with the participants continuously observed by the research team. Seventeen healthcare professionals, emergency medical technicians and academics participated in a co-design process to develop a telemedicine solution for emergency medical services. The results section presents practical co-creative healthcare innovation tools and templates that have been shown to facilitate the co-design process. The study developed and applied co-design elements for the creation of a prototype concept for telemedicine in emergency medicine and offers valuable insights for similar projects involving diverse stakeholders. It shows that structured co-design activities help all stakeholders to jointly create solutions that meet the overall needs.

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FDI AND ECONOMIC GROWTH IN INDIA. A TIME SERIES APPROACH

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has gained importance after the second world war. In broader sense Foreign Direct Investment incorporates the establishment of up to date and advanced facilities, mergers and acquisitions, investing the profits earned from other overseas business activities, providing loans to other companies etc. In narrow sense the Foreign Direct Investment means investment in the country other than the investors own country. FDI can be better understood by studying the real reason that why the companies have shown interest in investing abroad rather than exporting and outsourcing their products to domestic firms. In due course of time many theories and approaches were developed to explain FDI. Although several researchers have tried to explain the phenomenon of FDI, we cannot say there is a generally accepted theory, every new evidence added some new elements and criticism to the previous ones. FDI in India is playing a noticeable role in the growth and development of the country. India is one of the important countries of the world which is able to receive substantial amount of FDI. The present study has made an effort to see the relationship between the FDI and Economic growth in India. GDP has proxies for economic growth. First the Johansen cointegration test result shows the long run relationship between variables and the Granger causality test result exhibits that there is unidirectional Granger causality between FDI and GDP. Next the Multiple Regression model result presents that the estimated coefficients on FDI & exports have a positive relationship with GDP. Therefore, it is statistically revealed that FDI and Exports are instrumental in influencing the level of economic growth in India. India is having certain drawbacks like Weak infrastructure, Complicated tax structure, Restrictive labor laws, Bureaucracy and Corruption. Perspectives and lived experiences of survivors and caregivers of COVID-19 patients in a teaching hospital in a tribal district of Chhattisgarh, India

ABSTRACT Background: The rural–urban healthcare disparity in India was exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the second wave hitting rural areas particularly hard due to weak infrastructure. A study in Chhattisgarh aims to explore the experiences of severely ill COVID-19 survivors and caregivers to inform patient-centric care delivery in primary settings. Methods: In this qualitative study, we conducted in-depth interviews with seven patients and seven caregivers during home visits or telephonically to understand lived experiences of receiving care for COVID-19 in an ICU in the public health system. Socioecological model was used to guide the qualitative inquiry. Results: COVID-19 patients faced stigma due to their diagnosis. The survivors felt lonely due to isolation, uncertainty about their illness, and fear of death. Poor mental health during ICU stay affected their physical health. Patients with caregivers felt supported despite visitor restrictions. Transparent communication with health providers reduced distress. Conclusion: The study in Chhattisgarh, India, highlights ICU survivors’ and caregivers’ experiences, revealing fear and loneliness among patients. Effective communication and caregiver presence improve outcomes, emphasizing holistic support. There’s an urgent need for palliative care integration, caregiver inclusion, and comprehensive post-discharge follow-up by primary-level practitioners in rural settings. Lack of state-level palliative care policy emphasizes the need for comprehensive initiatives to enhance healthcare outcomes.

Cybersecurity in the Age of IoT: Business Strategies for Managing Emerging Threats

The quick spread of the Internet of Things (IoT) has essentially changed industries by linking devices, systems, and data. This expansion has, in turn, generated exceptional cybersecurity vulnerabilities, which introduces an urgent requirement for detailed security solutions. This paper analyzes new cybersecurity risks present in the IoT ecosystem and looks into successful business approaches for managing these threats. Using a thorough assessment of current literature, practical case studies, and extensive data analysis, the study discovers essential weaknesses in IoT devices, networks, and infrastructure. The method used collects information from latest incidents related to IoT breaches and evaluates several business strategies designed to meet these challenges. Findings imply that using advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in monitoring, in conjunction with collaborative cybersecurity frameworks, strongly enhances the security of the IoT. The originality of this research is in its thorough review of the evolving threat landscape and its practical recommendations for enterprises to advance their Internet of Things security position in a quickly changing environment.

PDAC-SL: A PUF-enabled drone access control technique for smart logistics

The conventional logistics’ paradigm is being replaced with smarter ways of supply chain management to readily serve the customers with quick modes of delivery in affordable operational costs. The weak infrastructure in rural terrain and congested roads in urban cities act as a big impediment in the successful accomplishment of last mile delivery down the lane across the complete chain of logistics. The traditional logistics has been evolved and improved in many respects, the last mile delivery is still plagued by security and privacy risks in logistics. The use of drones for package deliveries may offer promising gains in terms of efficiency. Nonetheless, drones undergo security and privacy risks besides physical threats for being deployed in public places communicating on open channels. Thus, more efforts are needed to secure the communication of inducted drones in delivery assignments. We propose a novel PUF-enabled drone access control mechanism PDAC-SL for smart logistics. By the careful employment of symmetric crypto-primitives, the contributed protocol not only supports low end devices but stands resistant to physical drone and other known threats besides preserving anonymity and untraceability features. The RoR model-based formal security analysis and performance analysis demonstrate distinct security properties and applicability of the PDAC-SL.

Our Daughters-Ourselves: Evaluating the Impact of Paired Cervical Cancer Screening of Mothers with HPV Vaccination for Daughters to Improve HPV Vaccine Coverage in Bamako, Mali.

Cervical cancer (CC) is the second most common cancer in Western Africa, accounting for 12,000 cases and 6000 deaths annually. While vaccination against human papilloma virus (HPV) and CC screenings reduce the incidence and mortality of CC in many developed countries, 90% of CC deaths are in low-income countries. Lack of knowledge about the connection between HPV and CC, lack of access to vaccines and screenings, weak healthcare infrastructure, and stigma related to sexually transmitted diseases are among the factors that contribute to this disparity. Previously, we evaluated the knowledge of HPV and CC in Bamako, Mali, showing that knowledge of the link between HPV and CC was very low (less than 8% of participants) and that less than 3% of women were screened for CC. Subsequent implementation of a community-based education program and support for local clinics resulted in a five-fold increase in CC screening at the five participating clinics in 2015. In this study, we paired CC screenings of mothers with HPV vaccination of their daughters to target out-of-school (OOS) girls whom school-based vaccination campaigns would not reach. Our campaign resulted in a 10.7% increase in HPV vaccination.

"ARVs is for HIV and cream is for HPV or precancer:" Women's Perceptions and Perceived Acceptability of Self-Administered Topical Therapies for Cervical Precancer Treatment: A Qualitative Study from Kenya.

Women in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) bear a disproportionate burden of global incidence and deaths from cervical cancer, despite being a preventable disease. Prevention efforts in LMICs are hindered in part by lack of access to cervical precancer treatment, due to weak health infrastructure and a lack of adequate human resources to deliver current provider-administered precancer treatments. Innovative strategies are urgently needed to close the cervical precancer treatment gap in LMICs, including the use of self-administered topical therapies for which efficacy evidence is available from high-income settings. We investigated African women's perceptions and perceived acceptability of these therapies for cervical precancer treatment. Between November 2022 and April 2023, we conducted five focus group discussions (FGDs) with women ages 25-65 years undergoing cervical cancer screening or precancer treatment in Kisumu, Kenya. The FGDs explored women's experiences with screening and precancer treatment, their acceptability of topical therapies for precancer treatment, and perceived barriers and facilitators to uptake. The FGDs were moderated by local qualitative research assistants, conducted in local languages, transcribed, coded, and analyzed using qualitative description using NVIVO software. Twenty-nine women participated, with a mean age of 35.4 years (SD 6.5). All had undergone cervical cancer screening, and 25 (83%) had a history of precancer treatment with ablation or excision. Multiple themes were identified related to women's perceptions of topical therapies. Participants were highly receptive of topical treatments, with many favoring the option of self-administration compared to provider-administration of such therapies. Self-administration of topical therapies was felt to help address challenges associated with current treatment methods, including difficulty in access, pain with procedures, cost, and lack of privacy with pelvic exams. Participants had a preference for topical therapies that are used less frequently compared to those used daily. Among Kenyan women with a history of cervical precancer treatment, self-administered topical therapies for precancer are acceptable and have the potential to address barriers, including access, privacy, and cost, that hinder precancer treatment in LMICs. If supported by efficacy studies in LMICs, self-administered topical therapies offer a scalable approach to closing the precancer treatment gap in LMICs. Not applicable.

The ripple effects of climate change on agricultural sustainability and food security in Africa

AbstractClimate change results in lower agricultural outputs, disruption of food supply chains, and widening of the social gap between poor and rich in developing countries, with more vulnerable groups being pushed into untold poverty. This review aims to investigate the consequences of climate change on food insecurity in Africa in the context of environmental degradation. This review emphasizes the complexity of demands on food security systems due to changing climatic conditions under the four pillars (availability, accessibility, utilization, and stability). This review demonstrated the susceptibility of farm production to changes in temperature, precipitation, and weather patterns generated by climate change. In addition, this review investigated the factors shaping food insecurity, such as increasing population growth, poverty, inadequate early warning systems, and weak agricultural infrastructure. Furthermore, the review points out how climate change affects food prices and availability and the widening income gap, potentially leading to social unrest and political instability in Africa. Vulnerable populations, including impoverished, elderly, and physically challenged individuals, are at increased risk due to climate‐related health impacts. Women who face gender inequalities and socioeconomic limitations are particularly susceptible. We posit that there is a need for comprehensive strategies that address health disparities and consider vulnerable subgroups within society alongside broader measures to enhance food security in the face of climate change.

Improving Health Information Systems Data Quality in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Data quality in health information systems (HIS) is essential for informed decision-making in the health sector, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) where these systems face many challenges like resource limitations and weak infrastructure. This systematic review assessed the quality of HIS data in the region, focusing on the dimensions, and factors influencing this quality. It highlights the importance of systematic evaluation, ongoing training for data collectors in the analysis and use of data for decision-making, and the adoption of information and communication technologies in the healthcare system to improve data quality. These findings point the way to better use of health data and the need for a more integrated approach to digital health in SSA.

Evaluasi Analisis “SWOT” Pembinaan Prestasi Olahraga Petanque di Kabupaten Tulungagung

Maximum achievement in sports is the main goal that must be achieved by all athletes, both individually and collectively. Producing peak performance requires scheduled and targeted coaching. Based on this, researchers conducted this research to determine the context, input, process and product for assessing the development of Petanque sports achievements in the Tulungagung area. The research method uses non-experimental methods with qualitative descriptive analysis. From the data sources obtained, this research method is document analysis. The research results show that the development of iron sports achievements has several advantages because this sport is increasingly popular and has received support from the government and society. However, there are also weaknesses in limited infrastructure and lack of funds to develop achievements. Apart from that, a number of opportunities have been identified, such as increasing public interest in the sport of snooker and the potential to produce outstanding athletes at international level. However, there are also threats, such as intense competition from other ancient sports. It was concluded that the achievements of the sport of petanque in Tulungagung were supported by athletes who excelled but did not receive adequate support.

ICTS and e-Governance in Africa

Information and Communication Systems (ICTs) have widely affected the world of governance which has led to a growth in e-governance in African countries. Public institutions have slowly adapted ICTs in order to achieve new levels of efficiency and more effective means of service delivery. These technologies continue to strengthen not only communication with society, but also further fosters the accountability and transparency of governments and government officials. A common dispute against ICTs in Africa is based on the knowledge that some African countries have a questionable ICT readiness due to weak infrastructure. For instance, Frans and Pather (2021:1) elaborate on the costliness of data in a country like South Africa which has easily led to numerous households having minimal access to the internet. Furthermore, due to high levels of poverty and rural areas in some African countries, many people do not have access to smartphones, nevertheless data or internet connection. However, in this time, the Covid-19 pandemic has accentuated the need to be 'in the know' for many people, which has thus led to a high demand for ICTs in countries (Frans and Pather, 2021:1). With the assistance and utilisation of secondary sources, this paper aims to highlight the benefits that come with incorporating ICTs in government as a mechanism to foster a relationship between government and its people. Through the consideration and incorporation of governance principles such as accountability, transparency, decision-making and participation, this paper will elaborate on how these principles can be achieved in African countries through the use of ICTs in governance. This research will further observe the following countries as case studies: Ghana, Rwanda, Egypt, Kenya and South Africa. The study analyses these countries’ approaches in incorporating ICT and how it has benefitted them and will further benefit them. It will explore various aspects that determine a country's ICT readiness whilst further considering the risks, limitations and benefits that an incorporation of ICTs in governance brings. Factors influencing healthcare workers' and health system preparedness for the COVID-19 pandemic: A qualitative study in Ghana.

Adequate preparedness of health systems, particularly healthcare workers (HCWs), to respond to COVID-19 is critical for the effective control of the virus, especially in low- and middle-income countries where health systems are overburdened. We examined Ghanaian HCWs' perceived preparedness to respond to the pandemic and the factors that shaped their preparedness and that of the health system. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with n = 26 HCWs responsible for the clinical management of COVID-19 patients and three administrators responsible for developing and implementing COVID-19 policies at the facility level. Interviews were conducted over the phone in English, transcribed, and analyzed using a thematic analysis approach. Generally, HCWs felt inadequately prepared to contain the spread of COVID-19 due to resource shortages and inadequate training. HCWs, similarly, perceived the health system to be unprepared due to insufficient clinical infrastructure and logistical challenges. The few who felt prepared identified readiness in managing high consequence infectious disease cases and pre-existing protocols as enablers of HCW preparedness. The health system and HCWs were unprepared to manage the COVID-19 pandemic due to inadequate training, logistical challenges, and weak clinical infrastructure. Interventions are urgently needed to improve the health system's preparedness for future pandemics.

Strategies to promote nuclear energy utilization in hydrogen production

The significant increase in harmful GHG emissions has led to dramatic global climatic changes. Thus, a need arises for clean, sustainable, economically viable energy sources. Prink hydrogen is the production of hydrogen using a nuclear energy source. No clear legislation regulates the utilization and operation of hydrogen in general and pink hydrogen in particular. This study analyzes nuclear energy regulations in various countries and regions and introduces a gap analysis in the nuclear field, comparing the under-established to the well-established regulatory bodies. This study utilized a harmonious blend of analytical tools utilizing both a gap analysis and an integrated decision-making methodology. Gap analysis showed a weak regulatory infrastructure, which hinders the adoption of pink hydrogen in some regions. Strategies were suggested in this study to address the identified weaknesses and threats linked to pink hydrogen technology to enhance energy security.

Reframing goals and strategies for delivering humanized obstetric care in Brazil

Introduction: Despite the long-lasting efforts to promote the quality of obstetric care, Brazil requires robust changes in the care practices throughout the prenatal-labour-postpartum continuum. The ongoing National Program for the Humanization of Prenatal and Childbirth (PHPN) efforts address the fight against obstetric violence (OV), the improvement in the quality of obstetric care, but its implementation has faced obstacles and difficulties, such as responding to cultural values and operating with a weak infrastructure. This research explored Brazilian health and social service professionals’ perceptions of the PHPN’s recommendations regarding innovation, policy and practice changes necessary to respect women’s human rights to receive a high quality, dignifying obstetric care. Methods: An online multi-site survey in which data were collected (Jun 2019-Mar 2020) from health professionals working in the public health system in Brazil. Data analysis used descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. Analytical themes were Perceptions of Program effectiveness to minimize obstetric violence and Program’s gaps, inadequacies and needed changes. Results: Respondents (n=369) disclosed their perceptions about the Program’s nature, utility, and gaps towards an improved implementation. Key issues were rooted in the outdated university education, reduced accountability, and governance in services’ management; unfavourable work conditions and climate; professional power-imbalance; population’s lack of information about the Program; underutilization of obstetric nurses’ and midwives’ skills; neglect of professional development; no denunciation & re-education, and culture of quality improvement. Conclusions: Firmness, hope and determination will be needed to transform society’s culture of silence about OV, awakening the public awareness and mobilizing to enhance collective health and political literacy to ensure professional accountability while protecting women and newborns. There is a need for a realignment of work processes, an investment in professional education, and education within women’s social networks for women to become partners in the active process of improvement of quality of obstetric care.

Optimal passive LCL filter design for grid-connected converters in weak grids

In an era characterized by the increasing integration of renewable energy sources into the power grid, the stability and resilience of the grid have become paramount, especially in areas with weak grid infrastructure. One effective approach to mitigate the adverse effects of grid disturbances and harmonics is passive LCL (inductor-capacitor-inductor) filters. However, designing these filters for optimal performance under varying conditions remains challenging. This research paper presents an effective approach to addressing this challenge by utilizing the power of evolutionary algorithms, specifically Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO) and Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA), to design optimal passive LCL filters for weak grid environments. The proposed method aims to enhance grid resilience by optimizing the filter parameters to consider a weak grid's unique characteristics and uncertainties. Minimizing the resonance frequency has succeeded in achieving power quality and stability improvements related to changes in grid impedance. Navigating critical barriers for green bond markets using A fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making model: Case study in Vietnam

As potent financial instruments channeling capital into climate and environmental projects, green bonds' issuance is frustrated by myriad obstacles. Therefore, this study aims to explore the critical barriers to green bond issuance in Vietnam. This study elucidates the salient barriers by utilizing an integrated multi-criteria decision-making methodology synthesizing the Fuzzy set theory-based Delphi, Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL), and DEMATEL-based Analytic Network Process (DANP). An extensive literature review of green bonds delineates five key dimensions related to impediments: Policy, Market, Financial, Capacity, and Awareness, with 38 discrete indicators representing potential obstacles. Firstly, employing a Fuzzy Delphi survey of 16 experts, 32 indicators are distilled for further analysis. Then, Fuzzy DEMATEL modeling evaluates the interrelationships and interactions among barriers. Finally, DANP is applied to obtain the relative importance of key barriers. Results unveil the five most formidable barriers as a weak regulatory framework and infrastructure (PO1), Limited availability of green bond issuance guidelines and templates (PO2), Insufficient incentives or tax benefits for green bond issuers (PO3), Limited coordination and alignment with international green bond standards (PO5), Lack of investor confidence in the quality and credibility of green projects (AW4), and Capacity constraints among issuers, particularly in smaller organisations or government agencies (CA1). The research contributes to the broader literature on green finance and offers valuable insights for promoting sustainable finance practices in Vietnam and other developing economies.

Digitalization of Educational Quality Management in Higher Education

Purpose: This research aims to determine the digitalization-based education quality management system at Prof. K. H. Saifuddin Zuhri Purwokerto and Nahdlatul Ulama Al Ghazali University Cilacap, so various challenges can be found in implementing the digitalization system for education quality management at these two universities. Methods: This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods with data collection techniques, namely interviews, observation and documentation. This research involves data analysis which includes compiling, categorizing and combining data to form a pattern of education quality management in digital-based higher education at Islamic State University (UIN) Prof. K. H. Saifuddin Zuhri Purwokerto and Nahdlatul Ulama Al Ghazali University Cilacap. Result and Conclusion: The result is the digitization of education quality management at the Prof. State Islamic University. K. H. Saifuddin Zuhri Purwokerto and Nahdlatul Ulama Al Ghazali University Cilacap have proven positive steps towards efficiency and effectiveness in education management, even though they still face obstacles such as weak human resource management and limited infrastructure. The success of digitalization is very dependent on the ability and capacity of human resources, so continuous efforts are needed such as increasing competence through training and development. Research Implications: The urgency of digitizing management in higher education is absolutely necessary, especially UIN Prof. K. H. Saifuddin Zuhri Purwokerto needs to continue to be promoted, especially information technology, human resources who are experts in the field of information technology, so that good digital literacy from all levels in students, educational staff and lecturers. There is a need to digitize through publications such as social media in the form of Instagram, TikTok, Flayer and everything that is digital based. However, for Nahdlatul Ulama Al Ghazali University, Cilacap, maintenance or maintenance processes are still needed so that it can be ascertained whether an asset can function properly or recover, the distribution of levels is not yet perfect, there are still some lecturers who may not be familiar with accessing the system used, and sources. limited power. For this reason, academic leaders must try to motivate, mobilize, remind lecturers, always improve the system so that their desires can be achieved, increase the use of more contemporary or modern systems and increase human resources by sending teaching staff, especially for academic digitalization services. Originality/ Value: This study offers original insights into digitalization of higher education quality management is very necessary in improving all services at higher education, both state and private universities in Indonesia.

Assessment of the Effectiveness of Energy Transfer for Shore-to-Ship Fast Charging Systems

Charging systems from shore to ship are typically designed based on a range of operational and design parameters, encompassing onboard power and propulsion needs, available charging durations, and the capacity of local power networks. In areas with weak grid infrastructure, onshore energy storage is often employed to facilitate high-power charging for vessels requiring short charging intervals. Nevertheless, incorporating on-shore energy storage adds complexity to the system, and the selection of system configuration can profoundly affect the efficiency of energy transfer from the grid to the vessel. This study presents a comparative analysis of energy efficiency among AC, DC, and Inductive shore-to-ship charging solutions for short-distance ferries utilizing both AC and DC-based propulsion systems. Findings illustrate that an increased reliance on onshore battery power correlates with decreased overall energy efficiency during the charging process. Thus, optimizing energy efficiency necessitates careful consideration when distributing the load between the grid and onshore battery. Results indicate that DC charging offers advantages over other solutions for AC-based propulsion systems in terms of energy efficiency. However, for DC-based propulsion systems, the most efficient solution may be either DC or AC charging, contingent upon the distribution of load between the grid and onshore battery. Furthermore, it is inferred that despite adding additional conversion stages and complexity to the system, the energy efficiency of inductive charging is comparable to wired schemes. Considering the added benefits of contactless charging, such as reliability, safety, and robustness, these findings advocate for the adoption of inductive charging as a promising solution.
