Creative Ideas of Sidakan Women Association (PKK) By Returning Used Bottles for Economic Value and Environmental Pollution Reduction

Abstract.In line with the increasing population in KulonProgo Regency, the volume of waste generated also continues to increase, which consists of both domestic and non-domestic waste. For the Sidakan Hamlet of Banaran, Galur District, even though it is located in a rural area, garbage has become a problem. For organic waste that comes from households, if it has been collected, it will be stockpiled. However, glass or plastic bottles that are not easily decomposed have accumulated because the waste bank has not been running since the pandemic. Therefore, as a solution, used waste is reprocessed into an item of economic value. What is no less important is reducing environmental pollution. The problem posed is how to manage waste so that it has economic value, is environmentally friendly, and can be reused. The method of implementing community service is carried out in two stages: the first is counseling regarding waste management, and the second stage is assistance in making goods of economic value from glass and plastic waste. The results of the dedication, attended by the administrators of the Dasa Wisma, show that to overcome environmental pollution, waste processing and management are carried out properly, such as making waste bottles, both plastic and glass, into something useful, including flower vases, containers for kitchen spices, and pastries.

Waste is unused material that comes from humans, animals and plants in solid, liquid or gas form. The problem of plastik waste is a common phenomenon in Indonesia that needs to find a solution. This can be done by utilizing plastik waste for appropriate technology such as using plastik bottle waste to be used as a medium for hydroponic water spinach plants. This activity was carried out at SD Negeri Gunung Anyar 273 with the aim of increasing students' knowledge regarding hydroponic water spinach plants and the use of plastik bottle waste as a medium for hydroponic water spinach plants, as well as reducing plastik waste found in the school environment. The methods used in this activity are lectures and direct practice in the field which consists of various stages, namely field survey, counseling, joint practice, and plant monitoring. The result of this activity is that students can make hydroponic water spinach plant media from plastik bottle waste and also have a good understanding of caring for hydroponic plants.

Waste or also known as rubbish is a problem that is quite complex for the government to handle, especially household waste which is never separated from the use of inorganic or organic materials every day. In maintaining a clean and comfortable environment, especially in the city, especially in Balikpapan, existing waste is separated at disposal. By referring to green environment principles, it is hoped that people will not throw rubbish or waste carelessly or at certain times. Referring to the problem of handling waste made from glass, in this case glass bottle waste, this article examines the use of glass bottle waste to increase family creativity which has economic value. The aim of writing community service is to: 1) Increase the community's sense of awareness in efforts to handle solid waste, in this case glass material waste. 2) Can provide information to the public about how to recycle glass waste. The type of method used is qualitative, document study and narrative in nature. There are various ways of recycling, in the study of community service writing it is how to disseminate useful information to society at the lowest level, namely households. Where waste management can begin to be implemented in the home and family environment, this can of course also be a motivation and build creativity in the skilled hands of children at home. where they can be given an understanding of how to create a clean and comfortable living environment, as well as foster creativity that creates added value that is beneficial from an economic perspective. Treatment for waste management starts from the smallest line, namely the family or household. The application of the go green concept with 3R can be applied in households in waste management, one of which is inorganic waste, namely glass bottles.

Utilization of Waste Types On The Quantity Of Fuel Oil Produced From The Pyrolysis Process

The use of plastic has become an important and inseparable part of people's daily lives, but rapid population growth and increasing human activities produce significant amounts of plastic waste. This research aims to reduce pollution caused by plastic waste, utilize plastic waste as a source of renewable energy in the form of Fuel Oil (BBM), and analyze the ratio of waste types to the quantity of fuel produced. In this research, data was collected from various commonly found waste, such as plastic bag waste, plastic bottle waste and styrofoam waste. Then, to produce fuel, a pyrolysis process is carried out with a waste mass of 1:1:1. Based on the results obtained, plastic bottle waste produces a product in the form of 0.019kg/30 ml kerosene. Furthermore, plastic bag waste produces 0.05kg/50 ml kerosene products, as well as 2.5 ml petrol oil. And styrofoam waste produces products similar to plastic bag waste, namely kerosene 0.171kg/98 ml, and petrol oil 2.5 ml. Based on the data obtained, Styrofoam waste produces more kerosene products compared to plastic bag and plastic bottle waste. With this research, we hope that society can maximize plastic waste into economic income and reduce environmental pollution caused by plastic waste.

Surface decoration of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) waste bottle-derived ultrafiltration membrane for enhanced lead ion removal and antifouling properties

PET waste bottle can be potentially used to create eco-friendly ultrafiltration (UF) membranes for water and wastewater treatment. The surface modification and functionalization of PET UF membrane offer opportunities to further heighten the performance of the membrane. In this study, phase inversion technique was used to fabricate PET UF membranes and PET/graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposite membranes through a facile GO suspension coating approach. The GO nanosheets were deposited on the PET UF membrane as a wavy and wrinkly layer. Using lead (Pb) ions and bovine serum albumin (BSA) feed solutions, the filtration performances of the neat PET and GO-PET membranes were evaluated. It was observed that, the Pb ions and BSA removal efficiencies were greatly enhanced by the surface decorated GO. Compared to neat PET, the 0.5GO-PET membrane exhibited improved flux performance by 188% and 61% for the removal of Pb ions and BSA, respectively. A high Pb ion removal of 100% and a BSA rejection of 97% were achieved by 0.5GO-PET membrane. The lower fouling tendency of 0.5GO-PET membrane during long-term filtration was attributed to the increased surface hydrophilicity and smoothness upon the deposition of GO layer. This study demonstrates a sustainable solution for efficient water treatment and heavy metal removal.

ÇÖP MATERYALİ TOPLAMA VE YANGIN TESPİTİ İÇİN BİR OTONOM ARAÇ TASARIMI VE GERÇEKLEŞTİRİLMESİ

Autonomous vehicles are becoming increasingly popular in a variety of applications, including waste collection and fire detection. In this work, we present the design and implementation of an autonomous vehicle for these tasks in urban environments. The vehicle is equipped with sensors and control algorithms to navigate, detect and collect plastic bottle wastes, and detect fires in real-time. The system uses an off-the-shelf, small-sized, battery-operated vehicle, a simple conveyor belt, and a vision-based, computerized system. Machine learning (ML-) based vision tasks are implemented to direct the vehicle to waste locations and initiate the waste removal process. A fire detection and alarm system are also incorporated, using a camera and machine learning algorithms to detect flames automatically. The vehicle was tested in a simulated urban environment, and the results demonstrate its effectiveness in waste material collection and fire detection. The proposed system has the potential to improve the efficiency and safety of such tasks in urban areas.

Tingkat Kepuasan Pengguna Terhadap Kinerja Alat Kompressi Sampah Botol Plastik “Bottlepress” Berbasis IoT

The purpose of this research is to ascertain how satisfied users are with the functionality of the IoT-based “BottlePress” plastic bottle waste compression tool. This research uses a survey method with quantitative research with a sampling technique, namely distributing online questionnaires via Google Form. A simple regression test was used to analyze data obtained from filling out the questionnaire. According to the research findings, most users are satisfied with the performance of the IoT-based “BottlePress” plastic bottle waste compression tool.

Development Of Waste Sorting Technology for Pet and HDPE Plastic Bottles For The Production Of Recycled Plastic Seeds

Plastic bottle waste is a problem that always arises. In Indonesia, the processing of plastic bottle waste still needs to be improved. Plastic bottle waste can be converted into plastic pellets with economic value. The type of plastic and the colour must be sorted to get quality plastic pellets. A machine is designed to sort out the types of plastic bottle waste, polyethene terephthalate (PET) and high-density polyethene (HDPE). The result is a prototype plastic biotol waste sorting machine with a 41 kg/hour capacity. The prototype of this machine can sort out plastic bottle waste and those not included in the plastic bottle waste category. The results show that the colour sensor and object sensor work optimally to sort plastic bottle waste according to the program.

Pelatihan Daur Ulang Limbah Botol Plastik pada Remaja Indekos Falih Metro Lampung

Assistance to teenagers at Indekos Falih is a student who is studying at the UMALA Metro Lampung campus. As an effort to provide provision with training in recycling used bottle waste so that it can be a provision for adolescents in the boarding house, to be adept at utilising used bottle waste into interesting handicrafts and can be useful for daily needs. The purpose of this community service is to provide socialisation through interactive counselling to teenagers. This is intended to provide adolescents with good knowledge and attitudes in using and utilising plastic bottle-packaged beverages. The results of this community service activity have succeeded in increasing knowledge and skills. This activity is expected to initiate teenagers to play a role in reducing environmental pollution. The activity of managing used bottle recycling provides provision to teenagers so that they have handicraft skills produced from recycling used bottles. Some of the benefits that can be obtained from consistent waste recycling activities are helping to reduce the amount of waste in landfills (TPA) so that the waste management process takes place more easily. Novel solar still design using transparent waste bottles

With increasing pressure on the global climate under the high worm gases emissions of fossil fuel, the necessity of using renewable energy is rapidly increasing. This study proposed a new solar water desalination system using waste transparent bottles for freshwater production. Two concentric transparent bottles were used. The inner bottle was cut longitudinally and horizontally placed with upward cut direction and filled with black cotton wick saturated by saline water. The outer transparent tube was cut radially to insert the inner smaller bottle inside and then reassembled using a transparent tap. The proposed device was exposed to the sunrays that reached the black wick and the energy absorbed and transferred to the saline water. After a short time, the water evaporation appears and started to condensate on the inner surface of the outer transparent bottle and collected at the bottom of the bottle by gravity. The proposed device showed moderate performance with 30.28% thermal efficiency and 2.95 L/m2day freshwater productivity under August climatic conditions of Cairo city in Egypt. The proposed device reduced the freshwater cost per liter by almost 66.2%, reaching a very competitive level of $0.0042/L. The proposed device can cover the essential freshwater needs for one person/year with not only a reduction of 21.3 tons/year of CO2 emissions but also with a reuse of 117 kg/year of plastic waste bottles.

Feasibility of Strengthening Sandy Soils Using Industry Waste as Geo-Fiber

Abstract Re-using waste generated from daily domestic usage to improve weak soils such as dune sand gives a profitable solution to both environment and the construction sector. In this paper, weak sandy soil was modified with two types of fibers derived from daily domestic use. Plastic bottle waste fiber and tainted polypropylene sediment filter fiber were embedded in the sandy soil with a rate of (0.5%,1%,1.5%, and 2%) by weight of dry soil. Toward this, the direct shear test was conducted to confirm the optimum fiber content and evaluate other parameters such as shear strength, normalized ultimate shear strength, angle of internal friction, and adhesion. The results showed that the 1.5% fiber content showed higher values of angle of internal friction and the normalized ultimate shear strength for both types of fibers. The reinforcement with plastic bottle waste fiber and tainted polypropylene sediment filter fiber enhanced the shear strength parameters and normalized ultimate shear strength. Significant improvement was noticed in the adhesion value with the addition of 2% of tainted polypropylene sediment filter fiber. finally, the effect of fiber addition on the Mohr-coulomb failure envelope was discussed.

ANALISIS PERILAKU DALAM MELAKSANAKAN PROGRAM 3R (REDUCE, REUSE, RECYLE) TERHADAP BERBAGAI JENIS SAMPAH BOTOL PLASTIK PADA MAHASISWA UNIVERSITAS JEMBER

This study aims to carefully analyze the social behavior in properly implementing the 3R program (reducing, reusing, recycling) various types of plastic bottle waste. This social problem is indicated to Jember University students who frequently employ various types of plastic bottles in their ordinary life. This published article was carefully compiled using literature study research methods and quantitative surveys. Data collection is typically done by typically taking specific references in peer-reviewed journals, published articles and local news. The survey was conducted by distributing questionnaires to students using a google form via the WhatsApp application. Typically based on the extant literature, it is proven that by implementing the 3R program (reducing, reusing, recycling), students are able to reduce environmental pollution at the University of Jember due to the use of various types of plastic bottle waste. With extensive research on the analysis of student behavior towards various types of plastic bottle waste, we can find out the level of awareness of Jember University students about the importance of preserving the environment and how they are trying to reduce the impact of global warming on the campus environment.

Sosialisasi Pengelolaan Bank Sampah Untuk Meningkatkan Perkembangan Desa dan Lingkungan Bersih di Dusun Cilutung

The management of the waste bank in Cilutung hamlet is carried out as a solution to reduce the volume of waste which is already very large. Increasing the population in the Cilutung hamlet is accompanied by an increase in the volume of waste in the Cilutung hamlet. It is not only waste that has an impact on the environment but also the disposal and decomposition system of the community which can cause environmental damage and become a problem point in the Cilutung hamlet. The main objective of the processing of the GELISAH waste bank is to be the main solution in achieving the main target of the hamlet to be better. Waste bank processing is carried out to improve village development and a clean environment in Cilutung Hamlet through the GELISAH socialization (Waste Care Movement). Socialization is about waste bank management, waste utilization, types of waste, good use of organic waste against maggot, utilization of ECOBRICK waste from plastic bottle waste. The end result of this work program is reducing the volume of waste and establishing a waste bank in the Cilutung hamlet, and increasing public awareness and concern for village development and a clean environment around it.

STUDY OF THE PERFORMANCE OF WASTE PLASTIC IN CLAY SOIL STABILIZATION

Every year, tons of plastic garbage is produced, damaging our environment. So, recycling these waste plastic has become a need of this time. Therefore, using such materials in technical applications like soil stabilization will be advantageous. Additionally, stabilization using waste plastic is a practical option that is also easily accessible around us. In this research, the soil was stabilized with Waste Plastic. Waste Plastic and Bottle Strips were collected and used as soil reinforcement in this study to improve the engineering performance of subgrade soil. The plastic strips were cut in two distinct aspect ratios (5 mm x 5 mm) and (5 mm x 10 mm) and were prepared to add at two different weight proportions (1% and 2%). Unconfined Compressive Strength testing was then carried out. The testing findings revealed that shear strength parameters improved significantly. The current analysis yielded the following Compressive Strength values: 27.68 psi and 32.73 psi when 1.0% and 2.0% of plastic bottle strips (5mm x 5mm) were used, and 17.32 psi and 21.99 psi when 1.0% and 2.0% of plastic bottle strips were used (5 mm x 10 mm). The results demonstrate that in the instance of bottle strips, mixing smaller strip sizes created an increase in shear strength on the soil. Any additional increase in strip size has resulted in a loss in compressive strength because increasing strip size generates un-compacted weak shear planes. So, this can be concluded that using waste plastic in clay soil for soil stabilization is recommended since it helps to both reduce the cost of stabilization and protects the environment.

Fabrication and properties of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) aerogel composites from plastic bottle waste

To solve environmental problems of plastic waste, novel polyethylene terephthalate (PET) aerogel composites from recycled PET fibres of plastic bottles are developed successfully for the first time in this work. The PET honeycomb structures with various cell sizes are fabricated by layering and then bonding PET sheets with ethyl cyanoacrylate. The honeycomb cells are filled with the recycled PET fibres and a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) cross-linker and then freeze-dried at −70 °C, 100 Pa for 48 h to obtain the PET aerogel composites (PACs). Effects of the various honeycomb cell sizes (1.0 – 2.0 cm), and PET-PVA ratios (5–1, 10–1, and 20–1), on the 3-dimensional (3D) mechanical and thermal properties of the PACs are investigated comprehensively. Due to the light-weight PET aerogel (PA) contribution, the PACs have the ultra-low densities of 0.042 – 0.072 g/cm3 and low thermal conductivities of 0.033 – 0.038 W/m·K. The honeycomb structure with the smallest cell size of 1.0 cm exhibits the highest compressive modulus of 15.30 MPa in the out-of-plane direction and 0.070 – 0.128 MPa in the other in-plane directions of the PAC. The compressive strength of the PACs in the out-of-plane direction is up to 730 times greater than those in the other in-plane directions and 2550 times greater than that of the PAs. The developed PACs perform better than aramid honeycomb-reinforced silica aerogel composites and common commercial products. They can be good alternatives for building insulation and cold chain applications.

Synthesis of an efficient MOF catalyst for the degradation of OPDs using TPA derived from PET waste bottles

In this study, a method for degrading PET-waste plastic bottles using ZnCl2:Urea as a catalyst was developed, resulting in high conversion (87%). The terephthalic acid obtained from the degradation of Waste PET Bottles (WPTs) was combined with copper and zinc salts to synthesize bimetallic metal–organic frameworks (MOF). The effectiveness of a bimetallic Cu-Zn(BDC)-MOF in catalyzing the reduction reaction of organic pollutant dyes (OPDs) was investigated, and the degradation efficiency of individual dyes was optimized, achieving over 95% degradation within 6–12 min under optimal conditions. Various techniques, including FT-IR, XRD, FE-SEM, EDS, and TEM were used to characterize the synthesized MOF. Results showed that the catalytic activity of Cu-Zn-MOF in reduction reaction of OPDs was enhanced by increasing the copper content. The reaction kinetics were investigated following pseudo-first-order kinetics with rate constants of 0.581, 0.43, 0.37, and 0.30 min−1 for Methylene Blue (MB), Methyl Orange (MO), 4-Nitrophenol (4-NP), and 4-Nitroaniline (4-NA), respectively. The investigations revealed that the produced catalyst exhibited excellent stability and recoverability, while its activity remained well-preserved even after undergoing three reuse cycles.

Strengthening Environmentally Friendly Behavior Through Waste Sorting and Recycling Programs Increasing Value Added Healthy Islamic Boarding Schools and Zero Waste

Applying the zero-waste concept is needed so that waste management in urban areas is not only more environmentally friendly. It's no longer just a trend, but this zero-waste has developed into a norm among the millennial generation in Indonesia. This service aims to strengthen environmentally friendly behaviour through sorting organic and inorganic waste and training in recycling inorganic waste into valuable products. The method used Participatory Action Research (PAR). This service found that students at PPAI An-Nahdliyah responded positively to environmentally friendly behaviour by sorting waste and received high creativity in recycling plastic bottle waste into valuable products, such as flower bouquets, pencil cases, etc. However, the sustainability of this program still needs to be improved. Therefore, this service recommends continuously improving students' resources to behave environmentally friendly and utilize their waste through reduction, reuse or recycling so that a zero-waste lifestyle is formed and supervision between each PPAI An-Nahdliyah student.

Empowering Parents of PPWNI Klang Selangor Malaysia Students Through Recycle and Access Market Activities

Some parents of students who are in PPWNI Klang Selangor Malaysia school to accompany or take their children to study, it seems that their activities are too monotonous, such as dropping off and waiting for their children to study at PPWNI Klang Selangor Malaysia school, really something that needs action. Some can be seen just waiting while buying snacks or even social gatherings between parents of students. Moreover, their existence is clustered and a little disturbing because they chat a lot with other students' parents. This condition can be sought so that the activity of waiting for his child to learn is not boring or disturbing his child who is studying and of course can be worth ringgit for them. Therefore, the service team held training in making several creations from bottle waste that had never been done before. These creations are in the form of handicrafts from bottle waste that are formed into various kinds of objects such as piggy banks, pencil holders, flower vases, etc. This creation activity can be done anytime and anywhere, the purpose of this community service activity is to (1) utilize free time, (2) reduce environmental waste, and (3) increase market access knowledge of parents of PPWNI Klang Selangor Malaysia school students. This method of community service activities is carried out with lectures, and simulations. The stages passed include field surveys, socialization, notification to parents, implementation of activities, and evaluation of training activities. Through PKM activities, parents are expected to develop their creativity optimally and help improve the family economy through entrepreneurship
