The volatiles of Taxus wallichiana var mairei were isolated by simultaneous distillation and solvent (dichloromethane and diethyl ether) extraction with low temperature (4°C) condensation, and analyzed by GC-MS. A total of 120 identifications were achieved, representing 79.12 % of the total peak areas. The major components were 3-hexen-1-ol (8.57 %), 2-hexenal (7.24 %), 1-octen-3-ol (6.10 %), 3-octanone (3.86 %), and hexadecanoic acid (3.74 %). A number of aliphatic compounds with no more than five carbons such as acetaldehyde, butanal, ethanol, butanol, formic acid, acetic acid, propanoic acid, ethyl acetate, and ethyl formate were first found from the genus Taxus.
