Promoting Return to Work After Vocational Rehabilitation Using a Work-Related Fitness App: Protocol for a Cluster-Randomized Controlled Trial.

Retraining programs in vocational rehabilitation are often characterized by a low level of physical activity, even when targeting jobs with primarily physical demands. They might therefore be accompanied by a decline in functional capacity if the lack of physical activity is not compensated by increased activity during leisure time. The implementation of a work-related exercise app might be a promising approach to promoting a return to work in vocational rehabilitation. We developed the "WORKout-app" which provides exercise plans based on a comparison of the physical demands of the retraining profession and the current functional capacity. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of app-based exercise during vocational rehabilitation on perceived work ability (primary outcome), occupational self-efficacy, days of sick leave, and return to work (secondary outcomes). We conducted a cluster-randomized controlled trial with 2 arms (intervention: WORKout-app vs control: treatment as usual) in 4 cohorts of 5 vocational rehabilitation centers in Germany. Participants are nested within retraining classes per vocational rehabilitation center and per cohort assigned to either the intervention condition or the control condition. The target sample size at the participant level is 598. Measurement time points include baseline, the end of rehabilitation, 3 months after the end of rehabilitation, and 6 months after the end of rehabilitation. Linear and generalized linear mixed-effects models are performed to test for treatment differences in outcomes. This study is funded by the German Federal Pension Insurance. The trial is registered with the German Clinical Trials Register (DRKS00030775) and approved by the Ethics Committee of the German Sport University Cologne (145/2022). The findings of the study will inform researchers and practitioners about the effectiveness of an exercise app developed to counteract the effects of physical inactivity during vocational rehabilitation. A vocational intervention that enhances return to work after severe acquired brain injury: A pragmatic trial

BackgroundFollowing a severe acquired brain injury, individuals often have low return to work rates. The Vocational Intervention Program (VIP), a partnership of Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program community rehabilitation centres with external vocational rehabilitation providers in New South Wales, Australia, was developed to facilitate a return to competitive employment for working-age people. ObjectivesTo evaluate the efficacy of the VIP partnership model, this intervention was compared to outcomes from a health-based brain injury vocational rehabilitation centre (H-VR) or community brain injury rehabilitation centres (“treatment as usual”; TAU). MethodsA 3-arm non-randomized controlled trial was conducted among the 12 adult rehabilitation centres of the NSW Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program. The VIP arm was delivered by 6 community rehabilitation centres in partnership with 3 external private Vocational Rehabilitation providers. The H-VR arm was delivered by 1 health-based vocational rehabilitation centre and the 5 remaining centres delivered TAU. Competitive employment status (“Yes”/“No”) and clinician ratings of disability and participation were collected pre- and post-intervention, and at 3-month follow-up. Multilevel models were conducted to investigate change over time by treatment arm. ResultsIn total, 148 individuals with severe brain injury were included in the trial: n = 75 (VIP), n = 33 (H-VR) and n = 40 (TAU). Sixty-five people (of 108, 60%) completed the VR intervention. A significant arm-by-time interaction was found, with higher return to work rates from pre- to post-intervention in VIP and H-VR arms compared to TAU (P = 0.0002). Significant arm-by-time interactions also indicated improved work-related participation and independent living skills from pre- to post-intervention in VIP and H-VR compared to the TAU arm (P < 0.05). These improvements were maintained at 3-month follow-up. ConclusionsThe VIP improved return to competitive employment at comparable rates to the specialist H-VR. Larger-scale adoption of the VIP model could provide significant improvements in vocational rehabilition sevices to support people in their return to work following severe brain injury. 한국 장애인 자립생활센터 정착을 위한 법적 제도화 과제 연구

The independent living movement is achieving a "major shift in thinking” when compared with the traditional service organizations including disability welfare centers, vocational rehabilitation centers, and residential facilities. Born out of the realities of life for disabled people, the movement seeks to achieve the same quality of life as Non-disabled people. At the center of this trend and movement is the person with a disability, who is at the forefront of providing person-driven services based on the principles of independent living - self-determination and choice - while removing environmental barriers that prevent disabled paeple from living independently in their communities. The Center for Independent Living, which was born out of this movement, continues to develop as a movement for the development of the lives of people with disabilities and as a service provider in the field of disabled people. Furthermore, through the civil rights movement of disabled people, they are striving to restore the essential and fundamental rights and existential freedom in their lives. This is manifested in the independence living movement, which has improved the quality of life of severely disabled people, especially those who have been confined to facilities and homes. Therefore, it is necessary to find a way through legislation in the current law for the actual settlement of independent living centers that play such a role, and this study was conducted. "The Disability Welfare Act stipulates that various necessary support services are to be provided through independent living centers to realize the independent lives of disabled people, and the details are to be determined by the Minister of Health and Welfare. However, the Enforcement Rules of the Disability Welfare Act, which were subsequently enacted, only specify the operating standards of the center, and there is no precise basis for support for the center, so the current operation and management of the center are insufficient. Through the revision of the Disability Welfare Act, independent living centers should be specified as 'independent living service providers for disabled people' and independent living centers should be defined as social welfare institutions to ensure the quality of services and support independent living for disabled people.

중증장애인생산품 지정 직업재활시설의 운영 성과 및 지역 별 차이 분석 연구

This study utilized 2020 data on the operation of Vocational Rehabilitation Centers (VRCs) to assess their current state, examine the impact of the Preferential Purchase Policy (PPP) on their performance, and analyze regional disparities among VRCs that are designated for PPP. By using the QGIS program, this study found statistically significant disparity in the regional distribution of VRCs that are designated for products made by people with severe disabilities (PWSD), with the top 20% of VRCs accounting for nearly 80% of total sales. Furthermore, this study concluded that the PPP for PWSD-made products is a significant factor in enhancing the job performance and sales outcomes of VRCs. Based on the findings, the study recommends the following strategies for the development and operation of the PPP and VRCs: increasing the production of products made by PWSD and raising the preferential purchase rate to ensure consistent positive effects across all VRCs; implementing an evaluation system that incentivizes the purchase of products made by PWSD in the performance assessments of national institutions and public corporations; developing specialized strategies for VRCs in regions with a low ratio of preferential purchase from designated centers compared to other cities and provinces, including analyzing their capabilities and competitive factors and suggesting alternatives; and assessing the local government's willingness to support these centers and monitoring their performance. To improve the system and reduce the concentration of sales and resources in VRCs, it is crucial to systematically examine the causes of inequality. An effective resource allocation strategy should be established to allow the top 20% of facilities to share their expertise and resources to benefit the remaining VRCs. In addition, the roles of the Korea Association of Vocational Rehabilitation Facilities for the Disabled and Korea Disabled People's Development Institute should be strengthened to establish a coordination and monitoring system.

Job Retention and Reintegration in People with Mental Health Problems: A Descriptive Evaluation of Supported Employment Routine Programs

PurposeStriking evidence supports the effectiveness of supported employment (SE) in achieving competitive employment in individuals with mental health problems. Yet, little is known whether SE is effective to maintain employment in individuals at risk of job loss. We aimed to descriptively compare SE for employed clients (SE-retention) and unemployed clients (SE-integration) regarding competitive employment.MethodsWe used administrative data from January 2017 to October 2021 provided by a vocational rehabilitation center in Switzerland including all individuals (≥ 18yrs.) with mental health problems who participated either in SE-retention or SE-reintegration. The outcome was the proportion with competitive employment at discharge. Logistic regression was used to assess time trends and to descriptively compare SE-treatments. We used propensity score weighting, including personal, clinical and program-specific information to reduce group differences.ResultsA total of 556 participants primarily diagnosed with mood/stress-related, schizophrenia and personality disorders were included (n = 297 SE-retention, n = 259 SE-reintegration) with median age 41 years and 57% female gender. The overall weighted comparison favored SE-retention over SE-reintegration OR 4.85 (95%-CI 3.10 to 7.58, p < 0.001) with predicted employment of 67.3% and 29.9% for SE-retention and SE-reintegration, respectively. While success for SE-reintegration remained stable over time, SE-retention showed an increase in more recent years.ConclusionSE-retention provides an approach for early work-related support that can prevent labor market exclusion. In contrast, reintegration is likely to require more efforts to achieve employment and may result in less favorable outcomes. It is therefore necessary that further research includes appropriate comparison groups to evaluate the effectiveness of SE-retention programs as well as the economic and individual benefits.

AHP를 이용한 장애인직업재활시설 운영 개선 방안에 관한 연구

본 연구는 장애인직업재활시설 운영상의 문제점을 검토하고 그에 따른 대안을 제시하여 장애인직업재활시설의 운영 개선방향 모색을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 장애인직업재활시설 시설장과 종사자, 정책담당자와 공무원, 학계 전문가 50명을 대상으로 AHP 조사를 실시하였으며, 47명의 자료를 최종분석에 활용하였다. 분석결과, 첫째, 1계층에서는 ‘복지체계’(0.703)가 ‘시장체계’(0.297)보다 중요도가 높게 나타나 1순위로 도출되었다. 둘째, 2계층의 경우 1순위로 ‘보호고용서비스(0.282)’, 2순위 ‘전이서비스(0.151)’, 3순위 ‘판매(0.055)’, 4순위 ‘생산(0.055)’순으로 나타났다. 셋째, 3계층의 경우 1순위 ‘재활계획수립(0.047)’, 2순위 ‘훈련관리 및 직업관리(0.041)’, 3순위 ‘사회적응훈련(0.040)’, 4순위 ‘지원고용(0.039)’, 5순위 ‘취업 후 적응지원(0.039)’ 순으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 질적 향상 및 발전을 담보하기 위한 장애인 직업재활시설의 운영개선방안을 제시하였다.

Service Quality Gap Model as a Predictor of Customer Satisfaction among People with Disabilities in Vocational Rehabilitation Centers

The purpose of this study was to investigate the Service Quality Gap Model as a predictor of customer satisfaction among people with disabilities in Vocational rehabilitation centers. A quantitative survey research method was employed for this study. The independent variable is Service Quality Gap Model, while the dependent variable is customer satisfaction. The data were analyzed with Pearson correlation and multiple regression. Multiple regression was used. Participants were 150 individuals with disabilities (females, n= 10, 6.66%, and males 140, 93.33%). Findings show significant correlations between service quality gap model subscales and customer satisfaction. When put together, the independent variables (tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy) yielded a coefficient of multiple regression (R) of 0.664 and a multiple correlation square of 0.621. Each of the five independent variables made significant individual contributions to the prediction of customer satisfaction.

Impact of insight and metacognition on vocational rehabilitation of individuals with severe mental illness: A systematic review.

Identifying specific insight and/or metacognitive measures predicting vocational outcomes would lead to a refinement of cognitive and behavioral assessment and treatment of people with severe mental illness. We conducted a systematic review of empirical research following preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Studies published in PubMed and PsycINFO from January 1, 2000 to April 30, 2020 and including words referring to "vocational outcomes", "insight," and "metacognition" were screened. Twenty-eight studies were included, 19 assessing insight and 9 assessing metacognition and their relationships with vocational outcomes in patients with severe mental illness. Thirteen studies (68%) identified statistically significant relationships between insight scores and vocational outcomes. Five studies (56%) identified statistically significant relationships between metacognition scores or metacognitive training and vocational outcomes. The most common tools whose measures were significantly related to vocational outcomes were the Schedule for the Assessment of Insight, the Scale to assess Unawareness of Mental Disorder and the Metacognition Assessment Scale-Abbreviated. Insight and metacognition appeared to be related to the vocational outcomes of people with severe mental illness. However, due to the heterogeneity of variables used to operationalize insight, metacognition, and vocational outcomes, it was not possible to determine the overall effect of insight and metacognition. Nevertheless, assessment including the measures of insight and metacognition would be relevant in vocational rehabilitation centers and in centers providing care through employment. The literature lacks predictive models of employment variables including insight and metacognition, so further studies should address this. Barriers and facilitators for work and social participation among individuals with spinal cord injury in Indonesia.

Qualitative study using in-depth interviews. To describe experienced barriers and facilitators for work and social participation among individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). Vocational rehabilitation (VR) center in Yogyakarta Province, Indonesia. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 participants (8 males, 4 females) aged 24-67 years. Five participants still underwent vocational rehabilitation, while seven participants lived in the community. Thematic analysis was used. None of the participants who worked before the injury returned to her/his previous occupation, most participants became self-employed. The frequency of participation in social activities decreased substantially. Barriers for work and social participation included health conditions and environmental barriers, including inaccessibility, stigma and discrimination and limited institutional support and services. Identified facilitators for work and social participation were perceived importance of work and social participation, adaptations to disability condition, and social support. Barriers to engage in work and social activities for individuals with SCI in Indonesia are combination of physical limitations, lack of accessibility, stigma, and institutional barriers. The capacity of social networks such as family in facilitating participation should be strengthened during the VR processes. VR should provide marketing skills and link self-employed clients with the market, in collaboration with the private sector and industries. Immediate policy and programmatic action is needed to enable these individuals to enhance sustainable work and social participation.

The Impact of Employment Status and Occupation Type on Occupational Stress and General Health of Physically Disabled Employees in Vocational Centers of the State Welfare Organization of Tehran: A Cross-Sectional Study

Objective: Disabled people experience worse situation in respect of the stress, health, and socio-demographic indicators than healthy people. Little knowledge is available about the way in which this disadvantage is patterned by employment status and occupation type, especially in employees with physical disabilities. Few studies have investigated the potential effect of employment status and occupation type on general health and occupational stress in physically disabled employees. This study investigated the role of employment status and occupation type and demographic factors in predicting general health and also, examined the relations between occupational stress and general health while adjusting for demographic factors among employees with physical disabilities in vocational centers of the State Welfare Organization in Tehran City, Iran. Materials &amp; Methods: This was a descriptive-analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The study was performed among 273 people with physical disabilities employed in the productive workrooms of vocational rehabilitation centers of Tehran, which were selected via convenience sampling. Data collection tools were Occupational Stress Index (OSI) developed by Belkic (1991) based upon cognitive ergonomics concept to measure the five key potential work-related stressors, Goldberg’s 28-item General Health Questionnaires (GHQ-28) (1979) to detect psychiatric illness as well as current psychological state in the past month and self-administered demographic form. Data analysis was conducted in SPSS software, using the independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and multiple linear regression. Results: The Mean±SD age of the physically disabled employees was 33.65 (3.76) years. Most of them were aged 30 to 39 years. (55.2%), men (60.4%), married (60.4%), with part-time employment (67%) and engaged in productive affairs (30%). The relationship between general health and occupational stress with gender and marital status was found to be significant (P&lt;0.05). Women and married subjects had more occupational stress. Moreover, there were significant differences in general health and occupational stress subscales regarding employment status (P&lt;0.05). Part-time employees were exposed to more stressful physical conditions and accidents at work than others, causing a higher level of occupational stress. In addition, employees who were engaged in art-related jobs had higher rate of time pressure, problems and decision-making situations in their workplace, hence, overall more occupational stress. Multiple linear regression analyses were then performed on data to identify general health predictors while adjusting for demographic variables. Age had a significant independent direct effect on enhanced somatic symptoms (β=0.16). Disabled women had a higher score of somatic symptoms than men (β=1.97). Furthermore, part-time employment was directly related to somatic and depression symptoms (β=1.26 and 1.51). Productive works were significantly associated with a higher level of somatic symptoms, anxiety, insomnia and depression symptoms (β=1.28, 1.53 and 1.95, respectively). Therefore, being female, employing as a part-time worker and working in productive affairs were significant predictors of somatic and depressive symptoms in physically disabled employees. Moreover, the physical condition of the workplace, workplace problems and decision-making situations were positively related to somatic symptoms (β=0.7, 0.13 and 0.14, respectively). In overall, 49% of the variance in somatic symptoms (the best model fit) could be explained by independent variables. Conclusion: Employment status and occupation type are significantly related to occupational stress, which in turn, causes general health disparities among people with physical disabilities. With respect to the higher level of somatic symptoms and depression in part-time employees, it seems that changing their employment status to full-time, can reduce their stress load and improve their health. The article is devoted to the analysis of sociological research of social policy in the Kursk region, in relation to families with disabled children. The theoretical, methodological and practical analysis of social work with families of raising children with disabilities is carried out. The features of assessing the quality of the activities carried out in the Kursk region aimed at helping families with a disabled child are considered. The study was conducted on the basis of the Kursk Social Vocational Rehabilitation Center, as well as on the basis of the Administration of the Seimsky District of the city of Kursk. The article presents the author’s program of social support for families raising a disabled child.

Disability in training: the example of a rehabilitation centre

People with a disability can benefit from adapted training in a vocational rehabilitation centre. Several sectors of activity are accessible, including health care. The experience of the Mulhouse team highlights all the challenges of these training courses which are "not quite like any other".

지역사회기반 교정시설의 교정프로그램 체크리스트(Correctional Program Checklist)도입을 위한 기초연구

This fundamental study was executed to know if correctional program checklists(CPCs) can be used for domestic community-based juvenile correction facilities. For the purpose, efforts were made to look into the present situations of those facilities and their legal grounds and to examine how those facilities are evaluated. In addition, CPCs of the U.S., leading assessment scales of America, were introduced to figure out the applicability of these CPCs in Korea. According to important results, the nation’s community-based juvenile correction facilities are evaluated every three years under the Social Welfare Services Act. These facilities are assessed as social welfare facilities with residential facilities for disabled persons and vocational rehabilitation centers for them because they are children welfare centers for protecting and treating children. The small number of community-based juvenile correction facilities is not enough to establish sufficient indicators reflecting purposes or special nature of those establishments. In consequence, it is urgent to introduce such indicators for community-based juvenile correction facilities. In America, CPCs are used as indicators for evaluating community-based juvenile correction facilities. CPCs developed by the Center for Criminal Justice Research (CCJR) at University of Cincinnati. After research was conducted to figure out if those CPCs are applicable to the nation’s community-based juvenile correction facilities, it was found that CPCs conformed with belief of the nation’s juvenile corrections and could reflect practicability of the existing facilities. If the nation’s community-based juvenile correction facilities can be evaluated empirically, CPCs should be considered as a kind of “processes” and “means” to improve efficiency of programs provided by those facilities. Based on evaluation results, it will be possible to operate highly effective community-based juvenile correction facilities.

The Role of Impulsive Behavior in Predicting the Emotional/ Behavioral Problems of Adults with Intellectual Disability

The purpose of this research was to investigate the role of impulsive behavior in the prediction of the emotional/behavioral problems of adults with intellectual disability (ID). The statistical population included all adults with ID who were being trained in vocational rehabilitation centers, supported by the State Welfare Organization of Iran and the educational organization for children with special needs, in Shahrekord, Iran, in 2017-2018. The sample consisted of 134 adults with ID, selected through convenience sampling. The Barratt Impulsiveness Scale Version 11 (BIS-11) was used for measuring the impulsive behavior and The Developmental Behavior Checklist for Adults was used for measuring the emotional and behavioral problems. The collected data were analyzed using the Pearson correlation coefficient and simultaneous multiple regression. The results showed that impulsive behavior was a positive and significant predictor for emotional/behavioral problems and its subscales (P&lt;0.01). Impulsive behaviors could predict emotional/behavioral problems such as self-absorbed problems, disruptive problems, antisocial problems, depressive problems, communication and anxiety disturbance and social relating problems. Therefore, designing and implementing preventive and interventional programs to improve the impulsive behavior of adults with ID appears to be necessary to reduce their emotional/behavioral problems.

Present conditions and development plan for customized employment for the severely disabled: Based on vocational rehabilitation center project

이 연구는 중증장애인의 고용확대 및 유지를 위해 이루어지고 있는 중증장애인 맞춤식 고용의 현황을 살펴보고 활성화 방안을 마련하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 현장중심 직업재활센터사업의 현황 분석과 사업담당자 심층면담을 실시하였다. 그 결과 사업 활성화를 위해서는 첫째, 현장중심 직업재활센터사업의 정체성 확립이 필요하며 둘째, 중증장애인직업재활지원사업과 연계하거나 통합을 고려할 필요가 있으며 셋째, 공공분야 장애인 일자리 방향성을 맞춤식 접근을 통해 안정된 일자리사업으로 재설계할 필요가 있으며 넷째, 전문인력과 훈련지원인의 자격기준의 개선과 전문성 향상을 위한 교육기회가 제공되어야 하며 다섯째, 다양한 직무지원과 사업주 지원방안이 개발되고 지원될 필요가 있으며, 마지막으로 최소한의 인력과 지원서비스를 위한 예산, 훈련수당 지원 등의 근본적인 지원확대가 필요한 것으로 나타났다.The purpose of this study is to establish a vocational rehabilitation center for persons with disabilities. For this purpose, we analyzed the current status of field - oriented vocational rehabilitation center project and conducted in - depth interviews with project managers. As a result, it is necessary to establish the identity of business-centered vocational rehabilitation center project in order to revitalize the business. Second, it is necessary to integrate with the vocational rehabilitation support project for persons with disabilities or to consider integration. Third, it is necessary to redesign the job direction for the disabled in the public sector into a stable job business through a customized approach. Fourth, education opportunities should be provided to improve the qualification standards of professional workers and training supporters and to improve their professionalism. Fifth, various job support and employer support schemes need to be developed and supported. And finally, funding for minimum manpower and support services, and support for training allowances.

An instrument to measure perceptions of people with disabilities regarding the application of international vocational rehabilitation standards.

This study aimed to create a valid and reliable instrument to measure people with disabilities' perceptions regarding the extent of application of international standards issued by the Council of Europe, International Labour Organization, and the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health in vocational rehabilitation centers in the Basque country, Spain. The instrument items were selected from international recommendations and conventions issued by the International Labour Organization, Council of Europe, International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, and a vocational rehabilitation literature review. The instrument was translated from English to Spanish, and the content validity index of an expert panel survey was used to assess content validity. For the Spanish version of the instrument, internal consistency reliability, confirmatory factor analysis and factor analysis were examined with 186 people with disabilities in 10 vocational rehabilitation centers in the Basque country. The coefficient alpha estimate was 0.945, indicating excellent internal consistency. Three factors were identified: job-related services, aims of vocational rehabilitation center, and vocational rehabilitation guidance. The instrument appears to have good validity and reliability but requires further validation. Support is provided for its use in both English and Spanish. Implications for vocational rehabilitation practice and suggestions for future research are provided.

Perceived physiotherapist empathy in orthopaedic clients at a vocational rehabilitation centre

Purpose: To evaluate the perceived physiotherapist empathy in orthopaedic clients attending a vocational rehabilitation centre in London, United Kingdom (UK). Methods: A retrospective cohort study design with the use of both open-ended and closed-ended questions. The Consultation and Relational Empathy (CARE) measure was utilised as the data collection tool. Results: Eighty one respondents completed and returned the survey. The constructs with the highest percentage of empathy were ‘being positive’ and ‘explaining things clearly’. No client reported any dissatisfaction on the CARE measure. On service ‘likes’ and ‘dislikes’, most clients were satisfied with the overall service. With regards to the attributes of the service that clients disliked, this mainly included no physiotherapy services provided over the weekend and having difficult conversations. Conclusion: The results indicated that overall clients perceived the physiotherapist as empathetic to their needs and report satisfaction with the service. Further investment to support the employment of more occupational health physiotherapists at this NHS Trust is recommended.

Capturing case complexity: is clinician selected dose of vocational rehabilitation related to questionnaire results?

Background: To establish an optimum dosage interdisciplinary vocational rehabilitation, it is important to be able to reliably and validly assess case complexity. Assessment of case complexity is currently clinician based because no validated means to assess case complexity is presently available. Indices assumed to associate with case complexity can contribute to the choice of dosage. The objective of this study was to explore the extent in which results of questionnaires were associated with the choice of treatment dosage in vocational rehabilitation.Methods: Design: cross-sectional study of observational data. The study population consisted of workers on part-time or full-time sick leave due to chronic multifactorial problems. Thousand eighty-nine patients who were referred to a privately owned organization with outpatient vocational rehabilitation centers in the Netherlands between July 2016 and March 2017 were allocated to one of the three programs based on case complexity as determined by clinicians based on clinical interview and questionnaires.Results: Questionnaires accounted for 13% of the variance in the total group, 13% in patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain (n = 662) and 29% in patients with chronic fatigue (n = 235).Conclusion: The results of the questionnaires contribute little in the assessment of case complexity and dose recommendation.Implications for RehabilitationAssessment of case complexity of patients with chronic multifactorial complaints and disability is complex.The results of this study suggest that case complexity and choice of treatment dose is slightly explained by questionnaire results. It is largely determined on heuristics developed by knowledge and experience of clinicians.No reliable and validated means to assess case complexity is presently available in the field of rehabilitation and optimum treatment dose cannot be determined transparently.Routinely collected clinical data of baseline characteristics, process measures and results are a valuable source that can be used to answer research questions.
