Employability on vocational high school students in the ”3T” area Bawean Island

Vocational high schools in ”3T” area on Bawean Island have limitations in human resources quality, equipment, production or practice tools, and industrial partnership, which differed from the vocational high schools located in advanced and developed areas. This research objective is to discover the description of employability to the vocational high school students in ”3T” area in Bawean island. The research method applied was the qualitative method using the phenomenology approach. The data collection was obtained through semi-structured interviews. This research participant was eight students at vocational high school "X," "Y," "Z," and "W" schools in Bawean Island, which is one of the ”3T” area. The analysis method in this research was content analysis. This research result shows that students in the ”3T” area were showing their effort to prepare themselves in facing the job market by enhancing their employability in learning activities within the class or practice in the laboratory. The students' employability includes skills, knowledge, comprehension, personality, career identity, social and human relations, and personal adaptability. Students realize that they are in the "3T" area and must work harder to improve their work skills so as not to lose their jobs.

Development of artificial intelligence-based teaching factory in vocational high schools in Central Java Province

The objective of this study is to examine and assess the progress of utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching factory learning to enhance the digital skills of vocational high school (SMK) students in the province of Central Java. This study employed a qualitative approach utilizing metaethnography, as well as a quantitative approach employing Aiken’s V formula and strength, weakness, opportunity, threat (SWOT) analysis to identify and analyze the issues that arise. The present study examines the locations of SMKN 2 Purbalingga and SMKS Telkom in Central Java. Furthermore, relevant documentation was also utilized as a source of data. The research findings indicate that the implementation of AI in teaching manufacturing learning has effectively facilitated the development of an online learning management system. This system is characterized by its organized and integrated approach inside the online learning management system. The administration of teaching materials may be conducted autonomously and facilitated by the utilization of diverse information and communication technology or e-learning functionalities, including chat, email, blogs, and social media platforms. The creation of new enterprises within the domain of AI. It is imperative for educational institutions to align their policies with the demands and requirements of the business.

The relationship between childhood trauma and mental health status among Chinese vocational high school adolescents: the mediating effect of poor self-control and internet addiction

BackgroundMental health problems among adolescents are a common concern globally. However, its relationship with childhood trauma is not clearly understood from the existing studies. Therefore, this study aims to explore the relationships among childhood trauma, mental health, self-control, and internet addiction in Chinese vocational high school students.MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted among vocational high school students in China from October 2020 to December 2020. Standardized questionnaires were used to collect basic information regarding childhood trauma, self-control, psychological state, and social demographics. A structural equation model was used to study the relationships among internet addiction, self-control, childhood trauma, and mental health.ResultsA total of 3368 individuals participated in the study. The results revealed the mediating effects of poor self-control and internet addiction on the association between childhood trauma and mental health.ConclusionsInternet addiction and low self-control play mediating roles in childhood trauma and mental health. Clarifying these relationships will help formulate better-targeted interventions to improve the mental health of Chinese vocational high school students and aid in interventions to treat and prevent mental health problems.

Enhancing mathematical problem-solving ability through project-based learning: A study of vocational high school student

This study aims to improve the mathematical problem-solving ability of students at Vocational High School (VHS) through implementing Project Based Learning (PjBL). The research method used was a quasi-experiment with a matching-only pretest-posttest control group design, with a sample of 64 students divided into two classes, namely experimental and control classes, each consisting of 32 students. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, where the sample was selected based on specific criteria relevant to the research objectives. Data were collected using tests of mathematical problem-solving ability administered before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the treatment. Data were analyzed using an independent sample t-test and a two-way ANOVA test with univariate general linear model (GLM) analysis. The results showed a difference between the experimental and control groups before the treatment. However, after the treatment, the experimental group had higher mathematical problem-solving ability than the control group, including the improvement and interaction between PjBL implementation and the Early Mathematics Skills (EMS) category.

Introduction to Interactive Video-Based E-Learning to Improve Critical Thinking Skills in Vocational High School Students

This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to introduce interactive video-based e-learning to improve critical thinking skills in Vocational High School (SMK) students. Critical thinking skills are essential in facing the challenges of the world of work, especially for vocational school graduates. This activity was conducted online through the Zoom application, involving vocational school teachers as the main participants. The training focuses on using interactive videos as a learning medium that integrates interactive elements such as reflective questions, simulations, and problem-solving tasks to stimulate active student engagement. The evaluation was carried out through pre-test and post-test tests that showed a significant improvement in students' critical thinking skills, with an average post-test score of 80, an increase from 65 in the pre-test. In addition, a survey of teachers showed that 85% of participants benefited from using interactive videos to make learning more engaging and effective. However, some challenges related to internet infrastructure and students' technical ability to access video were identified. As a solution, materials are also provided offline. The results of this activity show that interactive video-based e-learning effectively improves the critical thinking skills of vocational school students. Hopefully, this method can be adapted more widely in the context of vocational education and contribute to developing the quality of education in Indonesia.

The Interplay Between Personal Identity and Social Identity Among Vocational High School Students: A Three-Wave Longitudinal Study

AbstractAlthough identity research has predominantly focused on college-bound adolescents, it has largely neglected vocational high school students who enter the job market immediately after graduation. Furthermore, most studies have concentrated on personal identity and have overlooked the concurrent development of social identity. This study examined the relationship between adolescents’ personal and social identities over three years of vocational high school. The participants were 4,264 vocational high school students in Japan (Time 1: 46.44% girls; Mage = 15.78). Using a random intercept cross-lagged panel model, the results indicated that within-person increases in social identity predicted increases in personal identity one year later. These findings highlight the importance of social identity as a valuable resource for personal identity development among vocational high school students, a group underrepresented in identity research.

Empowering Indonesian Vocational Students with Artificial Intelligence Awareness: Challenges and Career Opportunities

Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as one of the most transformative and influential technological advancements, significantly impacting sectors like healthcare, finance, and education in the rapidly evolving digital era. However, vocational high school students often have limited knowledge about AI, primarily due to the superficial coverage of AI in their curriculum and the lack of resources and trained educators. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of an intervention designed to enhance AI awareness and understanding among vocational high school students. A comprehensive program was implemented, involving initial assessments, interactive face-to-face training sessions, and facilitated group discussions. Descriptive analysis using statistical methods was employed to compare pretest and posttest data, revealing significant improvements in students' knowledge and attitudes towards AI. For example, the average score for the question "I know what Artificial Intelligence is" increased from 1.77 to 2.93, while "I can name an example of an AI application" rose from 1.76 to 2.85. Additionally, students showed increased awareness of AI's impact on future careers and a greater interest in learning more about AI, with scores rising from 2.20 to 2.85 and 2.48 to 2.96, respectively. The intervention proved effective in significantly enhancing students' understanding and attitudes towards AI, highlighting the value of targeted educational programs. By addressing gaps in AI education and fostering a proactive learning environment, the approach equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in an AI-driven job market. This comprehensive strategy not only prepares students for future career challenges but also empowers them to leverage AI technology for career advancement.

Evaluating the implementation of the mechanical engineering student skills competency

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the Expertise Competency Test (UKK) for students of Vocational High Schools (SMK) in the Machining Engineering Expertise Program implemented by the First Party Professional Certification Agency (LSP P1) in Banten Province. The evaluation was conducted using the CIPP model (Context, Input, Process, Product, and Outcome). This study is useful for assessing the performance of LSP P1 in implementing the UKK and evaluating the impact of UKK graduates on their acceptance in the industrial world. The research was conducted in three vocational schools in Banten Province with the research subjects including the head of LSP P1, the head of the machining engineering expertise programme, and competency assessors. The research instruments used were questionnaires, observations, documents and interviews, which had been validated by expert judgement. The data analysis technique used was descriptive quantitative. The results showed that the implementation of UKK by LSP P1 in Banten vocational schools received the following evaluations: 1) Context aspect scored 3.36 (very good category), 2) Input aspect scored 3.47 (very good category), 3) Process aspect scored 3.36 (very good category), 4) Product aspect scored 3.26 (very good category), and 5) Outcome aspect scored 2.94 (good category). In conclusion, the implementation of the UKK by LSP P1 in the Machining Engineering Expertise Programme at SMK Banten Province has been running very well in most aspects, although there is room for improvement in the Outcome aspect related to the impact of graduates in the industrial world. The contribution of this research is to provide an overview of the effectiveness of expertise competency certification in SMKs as well as input to improve the quality of graduates who are better prepared to compete in the world of work.

Strategi Komunikasi CSR Samsung untuk Meningkatkan Pendidikan di Indonesia melalui Program Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC)

In Indonesia, one of the challenges experienced by the government here is that there are still many unemployed people. According to data from BPS in August 2022, the unemployment rate in Indonesia was mostly from vocational school graduates, namely 9.42%, 8.57% from high school graduates, 4.59% from Diploma I/II/III graduates and graduates from university is 4.8%. This shows that existing job offers can’t be absorbed by the existing group of educational graduates. To be part of a good corporate citizen in Indonesia, Samsung through its CSR program focuses on education program. Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC), a program through technology skills training to prepare Indonesia's young generation for the digital era with coding and programming and IoT training for senior high school, and vocational high school students. The program is aiming to equip youth with digital literacy including critical technical skills, and bridging educational divides to give underserved students.

Field Work Practice Monitoring System to Support Practical Activities for Vocational High School Students

Internship (INTERNSHIP) is an important part of the vocational education curriculum in vocational high schools, including SMK Negeri 1 Gesi. However, its implementation often faces various obstacles, such as inefficient communication, delayed reporting, and difficulties in monitoring student progress. To address these issues, an Internship monitoring system has been developed with the aim of optimizing the learning process. Therefore, this research aims to develop a internship monitoring system that is suitable for use by vocational high school students to support their activities. The research method applied in this study is research and development adopting the Alessi & Trollip model. The research subjects include software/media experts, content experts, and teachers. Data collection is carried out using observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The data obtained from the research is then analyzed qualitatively descriptively and quantitatively in terms of percentage. The research results show that in the alpha testing phase, the internship monitoring system product received a High Validity qualification from experts. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the internship monitoring system product deserves the category of high feasibility to use as an application or system to support a series of internship activities, both for teachers and students.

This study explores the impact of entrepreneurship education and technopreneurship literacy on fostering entrepreneurial interest among vocational high school students, with self-efficacy serving as a mediating factor. The research adopts a quantitative approach, utilizing data collected through documentation and questionnaires. Path analysis, conducted using SPSS software, reveals that both entrepreneurship education and technopreneurship literacy have a positive and significant influence on students' entrepreneurial interest, both directly and indirectly through the enhancement of self-efficacy. The findings underscore the critical importance of integrating entrepreneurship education and technopreneurship literacy into the curriculum for all departments in vocational high schools. These educational elements not only boost students' self-efficacy but also play a vital role in cultivating a strong interest in entrepreneurship. By fostering these skills and mindsets, vocational schools can better prepare students for entrepreneurial endeavors, contributing to their overall career readiness and potential for success in the business world.

The Effectiveness of Psychological Well-Being Psychoeducation on Career Anxiety in Vocational High School Students Based on Gender

This study aims to prove the effectiveness of psychological well-being psychoeducation on career anxiety in vocational school students based on gender. This study is experimental research with one group pretest-posttest design. The results of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test analysis obtained a Z value = 2,646 (p < 0,05). This shows that psychological well-being psychoeducation is effective in reducing career anxiety in vocational school students. The results of the Mann-Whitney Test analysis at the pretest obtained a Z value = 0,182 (p > 0,05). While at the posttest obtained a Z value = 0,109 (p > 0,05). This means that there is no difference in the level of career anxiety between male and female students

Analysis of Instruments for Implementing Intelligent Job Matching Models

Vocational high schools in Indonesia face challenges in producing graduates who meet the needs of the job market. The link and match policy along with the Job Matching system are proposed to enhance curriculum relevance to the workforce. The intelligent job matching model, which integrates machine learning technology, is expected to provide job recommendations aligned with graduates' competencies. Data analysis techniques used include qualitative and quantitative statistical analysis, encompassing Validity Analysis, Practicality Analysis, and Effectiveness Analysis. The intelligent job matching model has proven effective in assisting in matching vocational high school students' competencies with workforce demands in the industry. In the 2023 job fair, the success ratio of students invited for interviews until the employment process reached 53.13%, exceeding the Ministry of education and culture's target of 40%. This indicates that the model can provide job recommendations accurately enough, aiding in improving the direct employment rate of vocational high school students. Research indicates that the intelligent job matching model is effective in facilitating students' transition to the workforce. The model has been tested for validity, practicality, and effectiveness in enhancing students' employability and strengthening the relationship between education and industry.
