New visual communication technologies offer opportunities to the Australian film industry to improve international collaborative work. This article describes a case study of a recent application of an Australian development, the Videofax, to the making of a commercial in Australia for a British client. It examines the changes that occurred in the film production process and, with the aid of flow charting methods which originated in total quality management programs, analyses the impacts on work practices, productivity and communication.
