Kawasaki disease (KD) is defined as an acute systemic vasculitis that affects small and medium-sized arteries of unknown etiology, believed to be related to an atypical immunological response triggered by viral or bacterial infections. It remains one of the main causes of acquired heart disease in developed countries. It mainly affects children under 5 years of age and has a low prevalence in adolescents. The study seeks to carry out an analysis of the literature on the disease in adolescents and its repercussions. As a methodology, a search was carried out on free online platforms over the last 15 years in Portuguese and English. As a result, it was observed that Kawasaki disease in adolescents remains of uncertain etiology, predominates in males, presents in most cases incompletely, being wrongly diagnosed as infectious diseases, thus delaying its diagnosis and treatment, consequently, increases the main complication, which is coronary aneurysm. As it does not present a pathognomonic diagnostic test, health professionals should be encouraged to study and recognize Kawasaki disease early in order to avoid complications and morbidity and mortality.
