A complete quantum mechanical phase-shift calculation for the transport properties and second virial coefficient of helium has been carried out using Beck's potential. The results are compared with experimental data and with the theoretical calculations based on the Lennard-Jones (12–6) potential. Beck's potential is found to represent the experimental data quite well from one degree to several thousand degrees Kelvin although the predicted results are a few percent high at high temperatures. We conclude that Beck's potential constitutes a significant improvement over previously investigated potentials for representing the helium interaction and therefore include extensive tables of the transport collision integrals.
