Johnson County is one of the famous corn counties of Indiana, with high priced farm lands. Orange County is becoming noted for its dairy industry, perhaps because of the fact that much of its farm land is more profitable as grazing land. What kind of chickens are kept in these two counties, and under what conditions?To answer this poultry question a house to house survey was made of nine square miles in each county during June 1918. Experienced poultrymen cooperating with Purdue University took these surveys, choosing in each case an area which would take in no village or city flocks and which would be fairly representative of the county. Information concerning the poultry was obtained from every home in the area covered.In Johnson county reports were obtained from 61 flocks on 56 farms.
