A Study on Coimbatore based Technical Institutions Best Practices on Quality Enhancement and NAAC Accreditation

Higher Education plays a vital role in shaping the social, cultural and economic development of any country. Post globalization, privatization and liberalization, Indian higher education has witnessed significant growth, with rise of Institution especially by private players, students’ enrollment and different programmes. An immediate need aroused to ensure the requisite quality of education in these higher educational institutions and also to take Indian Higher Educational Institutions as globally ranking Institutions. In this regard, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) was setup in 1994 by University Grants Commission (UGC) with the objective of promoting Quality in Indian higher education. NAAC has been working through a frame work of assessment and accreditation of institutions with specific parameters evaluation and awarding grades based on their performance. Out of 1000 points evaluation, NAAC has provided 100 points to Criteria VII for Institutional values and Best Practices parameters. NAAC has also created, developed and published a series of various institutions best practices including series of case studies. These best practices are the agents of change for any educational institution quality enhancement and its environment as well. This paper aims to provide an over view of best practices adopted by technical institutions of Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) in their quality assessment and accreditation. It will also discuss these institutions best practices, their NAAC grading and its effect towards institutions quality performance and environment.

Nuclear Clay

Amidst a period marked by growing volumes of nuclear waste and ongoing discussions regarding its management, technologies that utilise natural materials for containment are gaining prominence. This article takes a historical view of Russian nuclear waste management practices with a focus on the role of clay as a natural material for containing nuclear waste. In particular, it explores the use of clay in multi-barrier technology, highlighting its dual role as a protective layer and a resource for managing nuclear safety risks. The siting of the liquid nuclear waste disposal at the Ignalina NPP site in Lithuania (1976–1980) and of solid nuclear waste disposal at Leningrad NPP in Sosnovy Bor, Russia (2013–2018) are the main foci of this article. These cases contribute to understanding nuclear waste disposal siting in the USSR and modern Russia and enable analysis of nuclear waste discourses describing the sites’ geology as a static or dynamic environment within active or passive safety systems.

Ways of shaping the Lean culture in enterprises in Poland

As we know from many publications, it is worth using Lean Management in modern enterprises. On the other hand, as scientists and practitioners emphasise, developing an appropriate organisational culture is necessary to obtain the proper results as part of Lean Management. Therefore, in parallel with the organisational changes related to implementing the Lean concept in the enterprise, various activities should be carried out to change the organisational culture into a culture favourable to Lean. There are many studies on how to change an organisation's culture, although it takes much work. Also, many publication threads in the recent period concern the features of the Lean organisational culture (the culture of a lean organisation) or the potential ways of creating this culture. However, knowledge on this subject still needs to be improved, especially from the point of view of management practice. Therefore, the main purpose of this article is to present basic information on the ways of shaping Lean organizational cultures in enterprises in Poland, with particular emphasis on manufacturing companies, based on literature studies and the results of empirical research carried out as part of the doctoral dissertation of one of the authors. The survey was conducted in 2022, using the CAWI method, on a sample of 55 companies. The presented results can be a valuable contribution to understanding the phenomenon of creating a Lean culture in enterprises in Poland. They can be also the basis for further research or analysis in this area.

What do we mean by academic integrity?

This paper examines the concept of academic integrity. Drawing on Calhoun’s social perspective of integrity and on MacIntyre’s goods-based view of practice, we propose to understand acting with academic integrity as standing before others and with others, firmly but non-dogmatically, to protect the integrity of academic practice and, therefore, its internal goods –which are not readily specifiable but nevertheless related to growth, learning, and knowledge production and sharing. This view differs from others that take academic integrity as compliance with rules and procedures of academic institutions, or as a general virtue closely related to honesty, that simply happens to be applied in academic settings. Some implications of our view include the fact that not cheating or breaking rules of academic institutions is not enough for acting with academic integrity, the need to be aware of and collectively resist internal and external –including societal– pressures and threats, and the demands on academic institutions and organisations to promote democratic climates that allow all their members to speak up, and to favour democratic-educative over causal-objective approaches –such as incentive-based and cheating-proof designs– to protect the integrity of academic practice.

Sex and gender representation in translation: Unveiling the complications

The paper discusses a number of difficulties connected with translating gendered vocabulary which, for the limited purpose of this discussion, is understood as either vocabulary that allows the translator to identify the sex of a referent or all other vocabulary that, in one way or another, relates to gender as a cultural concept. The presentation, based on students’ translations as well as authentic examples from contemporary literature collected by the author, is primarily intended for translation trainees who frequently underestimate the problems they will one day be obliged to resolve in confrontation with this particular segment of the lexicon. Other than that, it may be of use to fellow translation instructors, especially those interested in authentic material that they could employ to illustrate how the two concepts, translation and gender, intersect. The illustrative material presented in the paper represents English and Polish. From this, it follows that it is pertinent to any discussion of rendering gender while translating from an analytic to an inflectional language. Its novelty resides in the fact that it showcases issues that are often ignored in current discussions of translation and gender, but are nevertheless important from the point of view of everyday translation practice.

OPTIMIZATION OF THE DESIGN OF THICK MAGAZINES AS A UNIQUE TYPE OF DOMESTIC PERIODICALS

The authors of the article analyzed the main trends of media design from the point of view of theory and practice; gave historical and cultural, meaningful, formal characteristics to thick magazines. In the process of comparing the data, we came to the conclusion that it is necessary and possible to optimize the design of this unique journalistic product, taking into account its typological specifics. The result of the scientific design work was the author’s versions of the modernized design of the thick magazines Novy Mir and Yunost, based on a number of parameters. At the same time, the original, author’s versions have varying degrees of innovation. Visual interference in the design of relatively “new”, thick youth magazines, in particular “Youth”, turned out to be minimal, larger-scale changes were required in working with “old” publications, in particular “New World”, which will celebrate its centennial next year.

Civil-Law Protection of Personal Interests of the State Treasury – Selected Issues

The scientific and research analysis presented in the study covers an issue from the area of the general part of civil law, concerning personal interests of juridical persons. The discussion will make it possible to determine whether the State Treasury – a special-type juridical person, the substrate of which is the State, therefore a subject of public law – is entitled to specific non-property values. The need to discuss the problem – important from the point of view of legal practice – results from the fact that it has not yet been resolved in any separate study. The article first presents considerations on the essence of personal interests of juridical persons and the legal subjectivity of the State Treasury. It is only against this backdrop that it is possible to give an affirmative answer to the question formulated above. In connection with the recognition that the State Treasury possesses personal interests, the study needs to address several selected issues of a detailed nature. It should be determined whether the protection of personal interests of the State Treasury should concern only the performance of private-law tasks by the State, i.e. within the scope of dominium, or this protection covers also activities within the sphere of imperium. In addition, it is necessary to decide which personal interests of juridical persons are vested in the State Treasury and what conduct of this entity may put them at risk or infringe them. It seems also necessary to analyse the rules and means of protection of personal interests of the State Treasury, as well as to quote and discuss the provisions contained in the Act on the Institute of National Remembrance concerning the protection of values of public-law nature in the form of the good name of the Polish State and the Polish Nation.

Monitoring and Mapping a Decade of Regenerative Agricultural Practices Across the Contiguous United States

Satellite remote sensing enables monitoring of regenerative agriculture practices, such as crop rotation, cover cropping, and conservation tillage to allow tracking and quantification at unprecedented scales. The Monitor system presented here capitalizes on the scope and scale of these data by integrating crop identification, cover cropping, and tillage intensity estimations annually at field scales across the contiguous United States (CONUS) from 2014 to 2023. The results provide the first ever mapping of these practices at this temporal fidelity and spatial scale, unlocking valuable insights for sustainable agricultural management. Monitor incorporates three datasets: CropID, a deep learning transformer model using Sentinel-2 and USDA Cropland Data Layer (CDL) data from 2018 to 2023 to predict annual crop types; the living root data, which use Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) data to determine cover crop presence through regional parameterization; and residue cover (RC) data, which uses the Normalized Difference Tillage Index (NDTI) and crop residue cover (CRC) index to assess tillage intensity. The system calculates field-scale statistics and integrates these components to compile a comprehensive field management history. Results are validated with 35,184 ground-truth data points from 19 U.S. states, showing an overall accuracy of 80% for crop identification, 78% for cover crop detection, and 63% for tillage intensity. Also, comparisons with USDA NASS Ag Census data indicate that cover crop adoption rates were within 20% of estimates for 90% of states in 2017 and 81% in 2022, while for conventional tillage, 52% and 25% of states were within 20% of estimates, increasing to 75% and 67% for conservation tillage. Monitor provides a comprehensive view of regenerative practices by crop season for all of CONUS across a decade, supporting decision-making for sustainable agricultural management including associated outcomes such as reductions in emissions, long term yield resiliency, and supply chain stability.

Survival Of Megalithic Tradition: A Panoramic View of Primitive Tribal Burial Practices in Northern Kerala

Kerala is a homeland of 36 (Census of India, 2021) diverse tribal communities better to call as ethnic communities inhabited chiefly on the foothills of the Western Ghats, and their material cultures vary from community to community, among these 36 communities 18 tribal Communities inhabited the Northern portions of Kerala. Though each ethnic community had its own life and culture, they followed the ways of their ancestors in their burial practices. Among this ethnic group, a few communities have been classified as primitive tribal due to their isolation from the rest of the communities and their old way of living especially in interment ritual observances and progenitor veneration. Here the evolution of the burial practices and ancestor–worship of the ‘primitive tribal group’ were analyzed against the backdrop of the early literary, oral tradition, and archaeological exploration conducted among these ethnic communities.

Hidden price increases, product downsizing, and shrinkflation: a post-Keynesian macroeconomic perspective

Abstract This article takes a macroeconomic view of the industrial practice of marginally reducing the size/weight of goods or altering the content of goods or services without passing on the cost savings in prices. Although seldom a subject of academic study, this practice has come in for renewed attention with the recent return of inflation because it is one way of containing prices. Variously referred to as “hidden price increases,” “product downsizing,” or “shrinkflation,” it is part of a microeconomic strategy that has macroeconomic effects on both income distribution and consumer well-being.

ESG risk analysis and preparedness of companies in the Czech Republic

This study examines the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into the strategies of companies in the Czech Republic, a region where ESG considerations are increasingly influencing investment decisions and corporate governance. As global sustainability concerns gain momentum, Czech companies face growing scrutiny from investors, regulators, and stakeholders. This research aims to assess the current state of ESG risk analysis and evaluate the readiness of these companies to address the challenges posed by environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and governance effectiveness. To achieve this, the study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative data from semi-structured interviews with industry experts, corporate leaders, and regulatory authorities, and quantitative data from a survey distributed to a representative sample of companies across various sectors in the Czech Republic. The qualitative interviews provide in-depth insights into the challenges and strategies surrounding ESG integration, while the quantitative survey assesses the extent of ESG adoption, identifies key risk areas, and evaluates companies’ preparedness to tackle these issues. Data analysis includes thematic analysis of interview transcripts and statistical analysis of survey responses, offering a comprehensive view of ESG practices in the Czech business landscape. The findings reveal both best practices and areas needing improvement, providing valuable insights for stakeholders committed to enhancing corporate sustainability. This study contributes to the broader discourse on ESG by highlighting the evolving role of these factors in shaping corporate resilience, innovation, and long-term value creation in the Czech Republic, ultimately promoting a more sustainable and responsible business environment.

‘We are changed yet the same…we can make a difference’: using a critical, creative, collaborative inquiry process to understand and develop professional artistry in nursing

ABSTRACT Professional practice in health and social care is embodied by the practitioners concerned, embedded in practice contexts and creative in nature. It is therefore complex to investigate, understand and develop. Current health and social care contexts can present practitioners with increasingly constraining circumstances and spaces that can feel closed instead of open to exploration and development of practice. The collaborative, critical and creative inquiry methodology presented here was developed among nurses practising in such challenging circumstances. It enables nurses and other health and social care practitioners to reveal, explore and develop their embodied practices, systematically and collaboratively, amid busy daily practice situations. However ‘small’ the space they are in, the process described here can help practitioners to enlarge their space for becoming. The iterative cycle and the use of participatory arts help illuminate otherwise hidden and difficult to articulate aspects of practice, enable the involvement of stakeholders in coming to new understandings and lead to an expanded view of professional practice and its potential for transformation. The purpose of this paper is threefold. First, to present the methodology, methods and lessons learned during the doctoral study in which this approach was developed. Second, to reveal the professional artistry of facilitating this space for becoming and of supporting professionals to reveal their own and others’ professional artistry. Lastly, to offer inspiration and a guide for others considering similar participative inquiry work and to encourage debate and critique of the approach taken.

Municipal solid waste management practices vs public opinion study of Telangana State during and after the COVID-19 pandemic

Abstract Municipal solid waste management is an important environmental concern of the new era. The fast-evolvinglifestyles of the people, rapid population growth and industrialization, and a certain amount of unawareness and negligence on the part of the public add to the MSW management issues. Many studies indicated that a greater amount of municipal solid waste is not effectively managed. An efficient management of municipal solid waste is therefore called for to protect the public and environment from waste hazards. The current paper proposes to offer a holistic view of efficient practices for municipal solid waste management in Telangana. An online survey has been conducted with the help of Google Formsusing social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Snapchat to understand the concerns of the society about proper methods of Municipal Solid Waste Management in Telangana. The number of responses received is 219 in a total of 32 districts in Telangana state. Statistical analysis has been carried out with the help of the Chi-square test at a 5% level of significance to identify the existence of a significant relation between Municipal Solid Waste management aspects and the demographic variables namely gender and place of residence.

Error-based Activity Applications in Sixth Grade Fraction Teaching

This study aims to determine how the error-based activity (EBA) applications used in teaching fractions to sixth-grade students affect the academic achievement of the students, the perceived error climate in the classroom, student math anxiety levels, the permanence of the knowledge, and student views on the EBA applications. In the quantitative part of this research, a mixed-method study, a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was used to examine the effects of EBA applications on math achievement, math anxiety levels, classroom error climate, and permanence. A purposive sampling method was used to collect the quantitative data for the study. In the qualitative part of this research, a case study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine volunteers from the experimental group to determine the student views of EBA practices. Analyzing the data obtained showed that EBA had a positive effect on student success, positively affected the perceived error climate in the classroom, and effectively reduced student math anxiety levels and made the knowledge permanent. Apart from this, the results indicated that EBA applications positively affect students in terms of cognitive and affective aspects, increase the quality of teaching, and can be effective in different subjects and courses.

The rapid growth in the adoption of electric vehicles brings to light challenges related to the maintenance and disposal of batteries, which are essential components for the operation of these vehicles. The central issue addressed is the sustainability of the battery life cycle, considering both the efficiency of their maintenance and the environmental impacts resulting from inadequate disposal. The context involves the transition to a greener economy and the demands for clean technologies, which makes it essential to discuss appropriate practices to extend the useful life of batteries and ensure their safe disposal. The main objective of this study is to analyze the maintenance practices of electric car batteries and disposal strategies, focusing on minimizing environmental impacts and optimizing the life cycle of components. The research seeks to identify effective methods to extend the useful life of batteries, in addition to evaluating existing recycling policies and processes. The methodology used includes a literature review of current battery maintenance and disposal practices, in addition to the analysis of case studies that exemplify different approaches and results in international contexts. The research also incorporates interviews with industry experts, aiming to obtain a comprehensive and updated view of best practices and challenges faced. This work contributes to the discussion on sustainability in the automotive sector and to the formulation of more efficient policies for the management of technological waste.

The Influence of School Management Team on Student’s Academic Performance in Tanzania

This research study investigated the impact of School Management Team (SMT) practices on students' academic performance in Tanzania. Focusing on various practices employed by school management teams, the study analyzed their correlation with students' academic achievements. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, it combined quantitative data analysis with qualitative interviews involving heads of schools, teachers, and students. Key factors examined included analyzing academic data, monitoring students' progress, and enhancing teachers’ up-skilling, coordinating supportive services and creating a supportive network with other stakeholders to enhance students' academic performance. Data was gathered from six secondary schools in Mbeya City Council to ensure a 374-representative view of management practices. The findings revealed that SMTs are crucial in enhancing students' academic outcomes in Tanzania. These results contribute to the existing literature on educational management and offer insights for policymakers, educators, and school administrators on effective practices to improve student performance within the Tanzanian education system

This study focuses on evaluating the impact of resources, the coordination between preschool teachers and other educational forces, and the individual capabilities of teachers in facilitating/supporting vocabulary development for children with delayed speech aged 18-24 months in Hanoi, involving 255 teachers. Grounded in theories of early childhood education, the research employs quantitative methodology through data collection from questionnaires, aiming to understand the methods and factors influencing this process. The results not only provide a comprehensive view of language development practices for children with delayed speech but also propose strategies for improving training and professional development programs for teachers. Thus, the study highlights the importance of enhancing resources and improving coordination among stakeholders to best support children's language development, while also contributing to the formulation of appropriate policy recommendations.

Investment Climate in the MENA Region: Are the Stabilisation Clauses in Foreign Direct Investment Agreements an Obstacle to Progress?

Abstract Foreign direct investment agreements between Western corporations and the countries of the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA) deserve attention. On one side, the MENA region is a developing region rich in natural resources and therefore a destination interesting to Western investors. On the other, the MENA region is perceived as a volatile and unstable investment environment. Therefore, international investment agreements in the said region often include stabilisation clauses that serve as contractual mechanisms protecting investors from any changes in the laws and acts of nationalisation and expropriation by the host states. As stabilisation clauses have serious adverse effects on the sovereignty of the host states and the development of human rights, this article will take a deeper view of the stabilisation practice and aim to reveal how this contractual mechanism might represent a Catch 22 with respect to the further development of the MENA region countries, especially with respect to human rights and internal governance.

Physics teachers’ views of inquiry and classroom practices

Inquiry-based instruction has been suggested and practiced in national and international reports on science education. Scientific inquiry aims to enhance learners’ engagement in doing science through exploration including asking questions, data collection and analysis, and constructing explanations in an iterative process. One of the crucial problems in science education is whether science teachers integrate their views about inquiry into teaching practices. This study examines 30 experienced high school physics teachers’ views about inquiry and their classroom practices. The mixed methods design explored physics teachers’ views through semi-structured interviews and classroom practices through classroom observations conducted by observation protocols. The results showed less agreement between teachers’ views and practices; teachers tended to teach in traditional ways through lecturing although they possessed transitional or constructivist views of inquiry. The results offer science educators further insight into the relationship between views and practices to design and conduct professional development programs.
