Rational Value in the Identity Political Discourse of 2024 RI Presidential Candidates

In politics, discourse plays an important role as a stage for political actors to utilize language as a tool to build, reveal, or strengthen their power domination. Political discourse is a crucial element of political communication, providing a platform for political actors to utilize language to establish, reveal, or reinforce power dynamics. Repetition is a common feature in political discourse, often used by politicians to emphasize key messages and concepts. This research aims to identify and explore the various dimensions of identity politics, including social, ethnic, religious, professional, regional, gender, and cultural identities. This research will use the critical discourse analysis (AWK) method to process and analyze data. The type of research conducted is descriptive qualitative. The data to be analyzed are the campaign speeches of RI 2024 presidential candidates delivered in the form of language utterances, especially focusing on grammatical relational values that reflect identity politics, obtained from YouTube social media. The data source comes from the video of the campaign speech of the 2024 RI presidential candidate uploaded on the Kompastv account on YouTube. The data collection techniques to be used include documentation, listening technique, and note-taking technique. Through the use of command sentences, the speaker gives instructions to his supporters to perform certain actions and aims to influence the listeners' behavior and actions. Meanwhile, the use of statement sentences reinforces a clear and unequivocal message regarding the social relationship between the presidential candidate and his supporters, emphasizing commitment and continuity in the relationship. In addition, the use of relational modality creates an atmosphere of hope and belief in the positive outcome of the struggle and the desired change, strengthening the emotional attachment between the speaker and his supporters.

Implikatur Pidato Politik Anies Baswedan Terima Deklarasi Capres Pilpres 2024 Dari Nasdem

This research is motivated by the implicature in the video of Anies Baswedan's first political speech receiving the presidential candidate's declaration for the 2024 presidential election from Nasdem on the YouTube platform. The aim of this research is to describe the types and meaning of implicatures in Anies Baswedan's speech in the video of his first political speech accepting the presidential candidate's declaration for the 2024 presidential election. This research is included in qualitative research using a descriptive approach. The data in this research is oral data in the form of speech which has been classified based on the type and meaning of implicatures contained in the video of Anies Baswedan's first political speech receiving the presidential candidate declaration for the 2024 presidential election from Nasdem. The research results show that there are types and meanings of implicatures in Anies' speech in the video of the declaration of his first political speech. Anies Baswedan received the presidential candidate declaration for the 2024 presidential election from Nasdem. The types of implicatures found in this research are conventional implicatures and conversational or non-conventional implicatures. Meanwhile, the meaning of implicatures found is in the form of referential and non-referential meanings.

PRAGMATICS AND MULTIMODALITY IN INTERPRETING POLITICAL DISCOURSE IN JOE BIDEN'S VICTORY SPEECH

This study aimed to interpret political discourse using a pragmatic multimodality approach to the text and video of the victory speech of the 46th President of the United States, Joe Biden, using linguistic and gestural analysis using Searle's speech act theory, Perrine's speech act theory, and gesture interpretation. After that, the combined analysis of the three were classified into the function of political discourse which includes communicative, emotive, incentive, motivational, phatic, metalanguage, and aesthetic functions. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative method. The findings on speech acts show that assertive speech acts dominate speech with 61%, followed by expressive (14%), directive (11%), commissive (9%), and declarative (5%) speech acts. Meanwhile, findings on figurative language show that there are 7 figurative languages found in speech, namely synecdoche (24%), symbol (21%), personification (21%), hyperbole (11%), metaphor (11%), simile (9%), and apostrophe (3%). The combination of speech acts, gestures, and figurative language with the function of political discourse mostly refers to emotive function and motivational function, which shows Joe Biden's political discourse leads to the act of evoking the audience’s emotion and motivating the audiences related to the United States national movement under the leadership of Joe Biden in terms of maintaining his power as the president of the United States of America.

‘WE ALL ARE PERFECTLY IMPERFECT’: AN INTERPERSONAL METAFUNCTION OF MUNIBA MAZARI’S SPEECH IN A CASE ON SYSTEMIC FUNCTIONAL LINGUISTICS

This study aims to find out the elements of the interpersonal function used in Muniba Mazari's speech and to find out the most dominant elements of interpersonal function. The source of data takes from a video of Muniba Mazari's speech that was examined by the researcher. The data of this research are clauses that have an element of interpersonal function spoken by Muniba Mazari’s speech. The instrument of data collection used is documentation in the form of video recording, and for technique of data collection is documentation method. To analyze the data involves four steps namely: data collection, data condensation, data display, and the last conclusion drawing. Based on the result findings of this research, the frequency of the subject 231 (25,41%), finite 173 (19,03%), while residue elements predicator 204 (22,44%), complement 189 (20,79%), circumtantial adjunct 40 (4,40%), conjunctive adjunct 32 (3,53%), comment adjunct 25 (2,75%), and the last mood adjunct 15 (1,65%). The result showed the most dominant element interpersonal function structure used in Muniba Mazari’s speech is subject with the total percentage is 25,41%. Based on the results it can be concluded that this research can be used as insight and useful as a model to discuss interpersonal functions in a speech. And the researcher hopes that readers can increase their knowledge when conducted analyzing interpersonal functions in a speech because it is very important to know the meaning of each clause conveyed.

Textual Metafunctions in Inauguration State Speech Text of President Joko Widodo

This research aimed to find out the textual metafunction in the text of the state speech inauguration of the President Joko Widodo. Textual metafunction is realized by a thematization system in the form of elements of themes and rheme. Textual metafunction realized by the thematization system is related to grammatical elements used to express information in a clause. This research applied a descriptive qualitative approach. The data source of this research was in the form of an oral source from the video of President Joko Widodo's inauguration speech for two periods, namely 2014-2019 and 2019--2024 which was downloaded through the site www.youtube.com. This type of research data was written data. Written data was obtained from the results of oral transcription into written form so that data forms were obtained, such as words, phrases, groups of phrases, clauses, and text units. The theory used is the Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) theory proposed by Halliday and Matthiessen (2014). The method and techniques of collecting data applied in this research were the listening method and the note taking technique. Then, method and techniques of analysing data applied were the distribution method and basic techniques for direct elements. In addition, the method of presenting the results of data analysis applied was a formal method in the form of signs and symbols as well as an informal method in the form of words, phrases, phrases, clauses, and texts. The results showed that both of the themes of the text of the inauguration speech President Joko Widodo was concerning the sovereignty of the people and the Unitary Republic of Indonesia. Textual metafunction was examined based on a thematization system in the form of theme elements (topical, interpersonal, textual) and rheme. Based on the analysis, there was an increase in the use of themes from 2014 (42.2%) to 2019 (57.8%). Meanwhile, the use of rheme in 2014 was dominated by the material processing rheme, which is 27 uses, while in 2019 it was dominated by the behaviour processing rheme, which was 40 usage.

Modern possibilities of diagnostic research in the field of forensic video and audio analysis

Issues that are increasingly arising in criminal proceedings are highlighted, namely: use of data obtained as a result of diagnostic researches on video, sound recordings that allows to ensure a higher level of completeness, objectivity and comprehensiveness of research. The purpose of the article is to analyze the possibilities of forensic diagnostic researches on video and sound recordings of both oral speech and the sound environment of an offense event.
 Various modern possibilities of researches on video and sound recordings are considered. Attention is paid both to the specifics of diagnostic speech researches in order to obtain information about personality of the unknown speaker and to information that can be obtained through research and diagnosis of non-speech information. Analyzed the possibilities (within the framework of the examination of video, sound recording) diagnostic researches on directly speech information, including the definition of: oral speech form, nature of relations between the interlocutors, conversation meaning (definition of the meaningful situation: consent vs disagreement; permission vs prohibition; understanding vs misunderstanding; request; advice; promise; assurance; gratitude; threat; clarification; order; question; message, etc.), rate of speech and the emotional state of the interlocutors, as well as expert diagnostics of biological parameters of the speakers. Possibilities of diagnostic studies of technical studies of recording media and recording equipment, that can contain information about the technology of obtaining/fixing/saving video, sound recordings, properties and features of the media itself are considered. Non-speech sounds are classified according to their belonging to certain sources. The article highlights effectiveness of using the forensic information obtained through forensic examination in practice of investigating crimes.

Оценка влияния эмоционального восприятия визуального контента на принятие политических решений

The paper investigates the peculiarities of the emotional perception of political video content of different genres: humorous, video memes, the speech of a political leader and a video that causes disgust, by the youth. The conducted psycho-diagnostic research, using an adapted version of the scale of differential emotions (DES), made it possible to assess the level of emotional impact of political video content on young people, as well as to obtain the results of the influence of emotions on their intention to make certain political decisions. Analysis of the data showed that watching a humorous video and speaking of a political leader statistically significantly reduced the index of anxious-depressive emotions (p = 0.02, p = 0.07 – Wilcoxon test), compared with other videos. The assessment of the intention to support a political leader/bill was the highest after watching the video of the politician's speech (2.9).

Analyzing speech in both time and space: Generalized additive mixed models can uncover systematic patterns of variation in vocal tract shape in real-time MRI

We present a method of using generalized additive mixed models (GAMMs) to analyze midsagittal vocal tract data obtained from real-time magnetic resonance imaging (rt-MRI) video of speech production. Applied to rt-MRI data, GAMMs allow for observation of factor effects on vocal tract shape throughout two key dimensions: time (vocal tract change over the temporal course of a speech segment) and space (location of change within the vocal tract). Examples of this method are provided for rt-MRI data collected at a temporal resolution of 20 ms and a spatial resolution of 1.41 mm, for 36 native speakers of German. The rt-MRI data were quantified as 28-point semi-polar-grid aperture functions. Three test cases are provided as a way of observing vocal tract differences between: (1) /aː/ and /iː/, (2) /aː/ and /aɪ/, and (3) accentuated and unstressed /aː/. The results for each GAMM are independently validated using functional linear mixed models (FLMMs) constructed from data obtained at 20% and 80% of the vowel interval. In each case, the two methods yield similar results. In light of the method similarities, we propose that GAMMs are a robust, powerful, and interpretable method of simultaneously analyzing both temporal and spatial effects in rt-MRI video of speech.

STUDENTS’ GRAMMATICAL ERROR IN DELIVERING THE IMPROMPTU SPEECH

The purpose of this research was to find out the types of grammatical errors frequently made by students in delivering the impromptu speech. The aim of learning a language is to be able to communicate in a right way. There is no a silent language knowledge, a language must be produced in words to achieve its goals in learning second or foreign language comprehending. Trough speaking, we can see how is a speaker skill in mastering a lang uage. A good speaker is who able to produce language which arranged as its rule. In speaking, appropriate sentence structure and context are very helping in order to gain listener‟s comprehending. In collecting the data, the researcher used documentation of video of impromptu speech. A method to analyze the error is called error analysis. The indicators are: (a) Morphology error (b) Syntax error. From these indicators, the researcher find out students‟ grammatical error in delivering the impromptu speech. In this research, the researcher found 127 errors in morphology. Those were 34 (14,5%) errors in noun, 77 (33%) errors in verb, 4 (2%) errors in adjective, 2 (1%) errors in adverb, 10 (4%) errors in preposition. In syntax was found 107 errors. Those were 26 (11%) errors in phrase, 33 (14%) errors in clause, 21 (9%) errors in sentence, and 27(11,5%) errors in intersentence. From the result, the researcher concluded that the most frequent grammatical error found in verb.

Access to an online video enhances the consent process, increases knowledge, and decreases anxiety of caregivers with children scheduled for inguinal hernia repair: A randomized controlled study

BackgroundThere is limited time within the clinical workflow of most pediatric surgeons to obtain a comprehensive, well informed consent. This study evaluates whether ad-lib access to an online video on the consent dialogue enhances the consent process for inguinal hernia repair (IHR) in children. MethodsThe study was approved by the state ethics board. A 6-min video of a consent speech on IHR was produced and uploaded to a nonpublic online channel, explaining the condition, procedure, complications, and postoperative expectations. A total of 50 families were randomized to conventional, face-to-face consenting in clinic either with (intervention) or without (control) access to the online video. During their child's IHR, the parents were asked to complete the State–Trait–Anxiety Inventory (STAI), a modified Friedlander questionnaire on assessing knowledge sufficient to provide informed consent, and a validated satisfaction survey. Scores of the intervention and control group were statistically compared. ResultsThe intervention group demonstrated significantly decreased anxiety measured with the STAI (p = 0,026) and increased knowledge (p = 0,016) compared to controls. There was no difference in satisfaction (p = 0,557). ConclusionPreoperatively providing access to an online consent video regarding IHR reduces anxiety and enhances knowledge without altering satisfaction level. Tones of Last Official Speech as First Lady by Michelle Obama

This article is an analysis of the last speech script of Michelle Obama as the first lady. This study aims to find out what the tone contained in Michelle Obama's speech, to know the type of tone that is often used by Michelle Obama in her speech, and to investigate the meaning of the tone used. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative and document as the source of the data. In collecting the data, first, the writers searched for a video of Michelle Obama's speech on the internet, then wrote the speech so that it became a transcript of the speech, after that, the writers did an analysis document by looking for the tone (McCarthy, 2006) used in Michelle Obama's speech. The results of the study showed that Michelle Obama uses all kinds of tone in her speech, namely Rise, Rise-fall, Fall, Fall-rise and Level. The dominant tone used by her is the Rise-fall. Tone Fall shows sadness, fall-rise tone show dissapointment, rise tone show happiness, rise-fall tone express hopeness and the last is level tone to show that speaker certain with her statement. It can be concluded that content of her speech is about motivation.

A CRITICAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS AND ILLOCUTIONARY ACTS OF JOHN MAY’S SPEECH IN THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S CEREMONY AWARD

A b stract The aim of this article is to investigate John May’s speech in The Duke of Edinburgh’s ceremony award in Indonesia. This study was designed based on descriptive qualitative research using critical discourse analysis approach, focusing on illocutionary acts under the speech acts theory. The video of speech was transcribed and analyzed to gain the deep insight of the speech. The result showed that speaker addressed not the audiences only but also all the people in the world. The purposes of John May’s speech are to congratulate the awardees in completing the program and then achieving the award, to encourage all the audiences, and to convince young people, especially the one who joined the award. The speaker’s feelings through the speech are happy, satisfied, excited, proud, and confident/sure. Those expressions show no hidden agenda. The types of illocutionary acts that the speaker used are representatives, directives, commisives, expressive, and declaratives. Critical Discourse Analysis of Ahok's Speech in Kepulauan Seribu

<p>The background of this research comes from a controversial speech of Ahok. Speech delivered in the Kepulauan Seribu must be seen from the capacity of Ahok as the head of a region that has its own power and ideology. This research are not intended to see the true and false aspects of Ahok's speech that alludes to Surah Al-maidah verse 51, but this study aims to: (1) analyze ideological discourse; (2) analyze discourse and power relations; and (3) analyzing the implicatures that emerged from Ahok's speech in Kepulauan Seribu. The approach used in this research is critical discourse analysis. Sources of data in this study is the video of Ahok's speech in Kepulauan Seribu. The research data is a fragment of transcription of speech Ahok. The video of the speech is downloaded from the Youtube page. The analysis is not only in the textual aspect but also on the contextual aspect. The results of this study can be concluded that there are: (1) elements of Islamic ideology and the ideology of feminism in Ahok's speech; (2) power relations in Ahok's speech; (3) implicatures as a model of meaning implied in Ahok's speech.</p>

This study aimed to describe the Speech Acts illocutionary At the State Address of President Jokowi Date August 14, 2015.This study is a qualitative study using descriptive methods. The main data in this study are speech-speech on a speech by President Jokowi containing illocutionary speech acts on the President's speech Jokowi dated August 14, 2015. The source of this research data is video of President Jokowi first official speech on August 14, 2015, which is downloaded via youtube. The instrument of this study is the researchers themselves. Data collected by the state address how to download video youtube President Jokowi through, listening to the speech of President Jokowi, President Jokowi and transcribe speech into written language.Examination of the validity of the data was done by using trilingulasi. Data analysis was done by (1) transcribe the recording data in written language, (2) classified based on the type of follow illocutionary speech, speech acts function, and the strategy says, in a speech by President Jokowi dated August 14, 2015, (3) analyzing the data that have been classified, (4) make the conclusion of the research results Based on data from this study, it was found 94 research data, the type of representative illocutionary speech act, directive, expressive, commissive, declaration. Multimodal Soft Nonnegative Matrix Co-Factorization for Convolutive Source Separation

In this paper, the problem of convolutive source separation via multimodal soft Nonnegative Matrix Co-Factorization (NMCF) is addressed. Different aspects of a phenomenon may be recorded by sensors of different types (e.g., audio and video of human speech), and each of these recorded signals is called a modality. Since the underlying phenomenon of the modalities is the same, they have some similarities. Especially, they usually have similar time changes. It means that changes in one of them usually correspond to changes in the other one. So their active or inactive periods are usually similar. Assuming this similarity, it is expected that the activation coefficient matrices of their Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (NMF) have a similar form. In this paper, the similarity of the activation coefficient matrices between the modalities is considered for co-factorization. This similarity is used for separation procedure in a soft manner by using penalty terms. This results in more flexibility in the separation procedure. Simulation results and comparison with state-of-the-art algorithms show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Sex Differences in Salivary Cortisol Responses to Sex-Linked Stressors: A Test of the Tend-and-Befriend Model

This study examined sex differences in salivary cortisol responses to exper- imental stressors and subsequent desire to affiliate in the context of mortality cues following the Tend-and-Befriend model. Participants were randomly assigned to a mortality salience prime or a control condition. They were then assigned to view a video of crying infants or a video designed to elicit out-group threat. As predicted, females showed more cortisol reactivity to the video of crying infants and males showed more cortisol reactivity to the video of hate speech in the no prime condition. Males receiving a mortality salience prime, surprisingly, showed a weaker cortisol response to the out-group threat video compared to males who received no prime. Results provide further support of using the Tend-and-Befriend model to predict differences in stress response system activity between men and women, as well as modifications to that theory that incorporate male responses to out-group threats.

On high horses: Transnational Nepalis and language ideologies on YouTube

In this paper, I investigate transnationalism as one major dimension of contemporary superdiversity. In doing so, I examine how Nepalis in the diaspora employ YouTube as a discursive site to express their collective identity by responding to the video of speech delivered in ‘bad’ English by Nepal׳s minister for health at a UN meeting. Focusing on ideologies of English in the context of Nepal, I discuss three key themes that emerged in the video texts and comments: language ideologies in the entextualization of the videos, language ideologies and discourses of prestige and disgrace, and the relationship of language ideologies with political ideologies. Overall, the analysis shows that YouTube brings superdiverse participants together with their multiple subjectivities, identities and attitudes, and their demonstrated language competence is characterized by varied forms of linguistic repertoires in English and in Nepali. Ideologically, the comments seem to reproduce the modernist view of language as a bounded system, but linguistic resources used to construct these comments show a number of linguistic peculiarities and heteroglossic uses that challenge the writers’ own conscious conceptualization of language. Finally, the study provides insights for understanding the role of transnational digital media for a sociolinguistics of superdiversity.
