We wish to ascertain a future use of multimedia technology in the form of virtual reality (VR) as a complement and support to traditional psychodynamic therapy. In our experience, psychodynamic therapies demand prolonged treatment periods, and therapeutic theories seek new ways to find solutions leading to noticeable results and lessened suffering for the patient. The possible uses of VR technologies in the field of psychotherapy with cognitive behavioural methods were demonstrated at the MMVR VI conference in San Diego, California. From these demonstrations and the work of researchers and therapists on different forms of phobia, among other things, we have been inspired to present a potential application of VR as a complement and support of psychodynamic treatment. We would like to determine if there is a chance that VR technology will revolutionize certain forms of psychodynamic treatments. We think it is possible.
