Factors of Verbal Violence Towards Students: Field Study in Public Basic Schools in Erbil City

Violence in general, in all its forms, particularly verbal abuse, is one of the social and psychological problems facing educational institutions. Verbal abuse is widely spread and created educational problems, because in spite of this causing problems and disorders for the student and the effect of his/ her personality. Hence, the main purpose of this study is to identify the causes of verbal abuse toward students in public basic schools in Erbil city. For this purpose, the research, which used the quantity method, in the 125 basic schools of Erbil city, using samples in 10 schools, 381 students were assigned to the research criteria and as the research unit selected. As a result, the research has reached that "the impact of verbal violence, remains much more than other forms of violence, because the verbal violence had a direct effects on the student's passion and mind, at the same time, the research demonstrate, now in a number of Erbil's School, for controlling and organizing students, body violence has taken the place of verbal violence, and the results shows us that the verbal violence, among students itself, has increased in a considerable way.

Edukasi Bahaya Kekerasan Verbal (Bullyying) Bagi Siswa SD Negeri 1 Rumahtiga

Bullying is an act of physical or verbal violence that is carried out intentionally and repeatedly, with the aim of causing psychological suffering to the victim. Bullying is a serious problem, which is currently widespread at both local and international levels and can occur directly or online. The current case of bullying that is of particular concern is in the school environment. An example of a case that occurred was an 11-year-old student at an elementary school in Banyuwangi, who was found dead by hanging himself as a result of being frequently bullied at his school. This is the background to the importance of early education for elementary school students. Based on this, the 2023/2024 batch L of Pattimura Unvesitas KKN students carried out an educational program through counseling methods about education and the impact of bullying on children's health, mental and emotional health. This program was implemented for 30 students of SD Negeri 1 Rumah Tiga. The delivery of the counseling material was carried out in 3 sessions, namely a material presentation session, a question and answer session, and a group photo session. The results of the activity can be concluded that at first the students did not understand what bullying was, but after presenting material about what bullying is and how it impacts children's mental and emotional health, the students were very enthusiastic and immediately understood the material presented.

P-516 WORKING IN THE TIME OF COVID-19: HOW COVID-19 PUBLIC HEALTH POLICIES AFFECT THE EXPERIENCE OF BULLYING AND HARASSMENT AMONG RESTAURANT WORKERS

Abstract Introduction This study explored how COVID-19 public health policies affected experiences of bullying and harassment among workers in the restaurant industry and the impact of these policies on the health and safety of workers. Methods Qualitative interviews were conducted with 47 restaurant workers in the Canadian province of British Columbia. Participants worked in various roles at any kind of restaurant during the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ethics approval was obtained from the UBC Research Ethics Board. Inductive coding was applied towards the development of themes. Results COVID-19 public health restrictions in restaurants contributed to bullying and harassment of workers. A lack of managerial support and implementation guidelines from public health officials led to workers having to enforce restrictions on their own, which resulted in workers routinely experiencing verbal violence and harassment by customers. Workers described unsafe work conditions that put them at risk for contracting COVID-19 as well for bullying and harassment from management, which was exacerbated for women, gender-diverse, and racialized workers. In workplaces with a supportive organizational culture, workers reported feeling safer and buffered from incidents of bullying and harassment from customers.“ Discussion The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated existing structural dynamics in the restaurant industry that enabled bullying and harassment of workers, including the hierarchical dynamic of restaurant work as well as discrimination in the industry. Conclusion While supportive workplace policies and practices mitigated some of the bullying and harassment experienced by restaurant workers working during the COVID-19 pandemic, broader equity-focused organizational and structural change is needed to protect workers.

Cases of Bullying in the School Environment and Its Impact on Children's Future

Bullying can occur anywhere, both in urban and rural areas, both public and private schools. Whatever the type, bullying is unjustified. School should be a comfortable place for students to study science, because the impact of bullying causing deep trauma can be felt until adulthood. For this reason, to overcome bullying is not only the task of one person but all parties. This study uses a literature review method obtained online, consisting of various journal articles, research results, and subject books on bullying. Descriptive-analytical data analysis, the researcher organized all the data thoroughly about the bullying phenomenon that had been collected through internet searching. The Meaning of Toxic Relationship Communication for Teenagers

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of the rise of toxic relationships in romantic relationships among teenagers. This results in depression, suicide attempts due to excessive pressure from the perpetrator. Komnas Perempuan's annual records for 2022 contain 3,528 data on cases of violence in romantic relationships. The aim of this research is to explain the motives, experiences and meaning of toxic relationship communication in romantic relationships for teenagers in Garut Regency. The research method used is a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Phenomenological theory becomes the scalpel in this research to obtain an explanation for the phenomenon of toxic relationships. Data collection techniques through participant observation, in-depth interviews, literature study and documentation. The data analysis techniques in this research are data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The research results show that the motives for toxic relationships in romantic relationships vary, starting from internal factors such as obsession, narcissistic personality disorder (NPD), excessive disclosure and external factors such as the surrounding environment and the presence of an ex-lover in a new relationship. The experiences of toxic relationships that many people experience are verbal and nonverbal violence, mild depression to severe depression, trauma, hampered personal development and loss of confidence in having new relationships with other people. The communication meaning of a toxic relationship is one-way communication, a relationship that hurts each other, does not have good expectations from the romantic relationship that is being carried out and the relationship is dominated by only one party.

Reactions and Perspectives of Healthcare Workers against Workplace Violence: A Cross-sectional Study at Sheikh Zayed Hospital Rahim Yar Khan

Background: Workplace violence encompasses acts or threats of physical violence, intimidation, harassment, or disruptive behavior occurring within the workplace environment. Methodology: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted at Sheikh Zayed Hospital, Rahim Yar Khan, focusing on healthcare workers including doctors, nursing staff, and pharmaceutical staff. A predefined questionnaire gathered data on demographics, workplace details, experiences of violence, reactions to violence, and attitudes towards workplace violence. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), with the Chi-square test used to assess significant associations (p ≤ 0.05). Results: The study included 192 participants, primarily females (52.08%), with 148 doctors (77.1%) and a majority aged 21-30 years (78.13%). Violence was most prevalent during nighttime shifts and among those with 16-20 years of work experience. Verbal violence was reported by 65.1% of participants (p = 0.011). Staff shortages and increased workload were identified as primary causes of violence by 62.4% of respondents (p = 0.017). Relatives were the most common source of violence, accounting for 61.07% of cases. Following incidents, 61.4% of doctors and 38.6% of nurses reported heightened vigilance (p = 0.03). Conclusion: The study highlights a significant prevalence of workplace violence in healthcare settings, particularly verbal abuse and threats from relatives. Staff shortages and increased workloads were identified as major contributing factors. Organizational interventions and training programs are crucial to mitigate the impact of workplace violence on healthcare workers' well-being.

In Their Own Words: LGBTQIA+ Stigma in Secondary School

LGBTQIA+ youth often face stigma from society as they develop their personal identities. In the United States, legislation has recently been focusing on reducing protections in schools for queer youth and limiting access to resources like gender affirming healthcare. Youth have increasingly been targeted for identifying as queer and have experienced verbal and physical violence for expressing their gender identities. Research links stigmatization with increased mental health and substance use problems. However, there is limited information on how stigma experienced during adolescence may continue to impact young adults over time. Using a qualitative retrospective framework, LGBTQIA+-identified undergraduates (N = 8) at a 4-year university participated in one-hour virtual focus groups. Data were recorded and anonymized using individual participant codes with names of people or places removed from transcripts. Students were asked to reflect on their experiences as queer youth in secondary school including access to resources; interactions with teachers, staff, and peers; recommendations for supporting LGBTQIA+ students; and personal coping skills. The researchers used a thematic analysis to examine key issues students raised. Results provide insight into the challenges LGBTQIA+ youth face and highlight the strengths of these college-age young adults.

Workplace violence against healthcare professionals in Morocco.

Violence in hospitals is a significant problem and it has a negative impact on healthcare professionals. We sought to identify the occurrence, characteristics and consequences of violence against healthcare professional in Morocco and propose preventive measures. This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 2020 among medical and paramedical healthcare professionals at a 1548-bed Moroccan university hospital that comprises 5 hospitals. Interviews were conducted using an anonymous, structured and self-administered questionnaire. The data were analysed using SPSS version 10.0. Our study included 480 health workers, 61% were women and 61% were paramedics. Their mean age was 29.6 ±5 years and the median professional experience was 3 years. The average frequency of violence was 76% (95% CI: 72-79); verbal violence was 99%, psychological violence 34%, and physical violence 21%. More women (62%) experienced violence than men and more paramedics (83%) than medics. The perpetrators of this violence were mostly (77%) family members of the patients. The workers estimated underreporting of violence at 38%. Healthcare professionals are frequently exposed to violence. Reporting of such violence should be encouraged to enhance prevention and proper management by health workers and the responsible authorities.

The Phenomenon of Domestic Violence from the Point of View of Secondary School Students after the Corona Pandemic in Jazan Region

The research examines the phenomenon of domestic violence from the perspective of secondary school students and teachers in Jazan Region. The sample comprised 1,264 students, with 585 males and 679 females. Two scales were developed: one to measure family violence among students and another to assess teachers' evaluations of domestic violence. Both scales were psychometrically validated and deemed suitable for application. Using a descriptive method and statistical analysis with SPSS-28, the study found that psychological violence is the most prevalent form of domestic violence among secondary school students in Jazan Region, followed by verbal violence. Specifically, students reported experiencing command language, reprimands, criticism of their behavior, lack of attention, invasion of privacy, and unmet financial needs from their parents. Furthermore, the analysis indicated no statistically significant differences in domestic violence experiences between students from Jazan and Sebya Education Departments. However, significant gender differences were observed, with male students reporting higher levels of domestic violence than female students. Additionally, students specializing in theoretical subjects reported higher instances of domestic violence compared to those in scientific specializations. Lastly, differences were noted among the three grades of secondary school students, indicating that domestic violence experiences varied across different academic levels. These findings underscore the need for targeted interventions and support systems to address domestic violence in Jazan Region, particularly focusing on psychological and verbal abuse and the varying experiences of different student demographics.

Clear Yet Crossed: Athletes' Retrospective Reports of Coach Violence.

This study aimed at examining coach-athlete violence based on the retrospective reports of adults who had been athletes as children and adolescents; predict variables that contribute to the existence of such violence; describe difficulties that the participants encountered as young athletes following such violence; and reveal the outcomes of such violence on their emotions and behaviors, in the past and present. The applied mixed methods comprised quantitative self-reporting questionnaires and qualitative interviews. The former included 440 participants (mean age 27.6) who had trained for at least one year in a sports union youth department; the latter included 14 participants (aged 23-37). These competitive athletes came from eight branches of sports. The interviews were analyzed based on the Narrative Approach. According to the quantitative study, all participants had experienced coach violence at least once during their career, mainly psychological violence and neglect, followed by physical violence. Sexual violence was least reported. The age of their retirement from sports and the number of coaches that they had had were significant predictors of violence. Thematic analysis of the qualitative interviews resulted in six types of coach-athlete violence: (1) psychological violence; (2) verbal violence; (3) starvation and food fattening; (4) non-proportional punishing; (5) physical violence; and (6) sexual violence. It is vital that coach-athlete violence is addressed in public discourse, that the topic of young athletes' safety is introduced into coaching education, and that a position holder is nominated to be in charge of such safety in all sports organizations.

The rise of sexist humor, which is a form of verbal sexual violence, is one of the important things that needs to be studied. Students as figures who will have an important role in society need to have a proper understanding of forms of sexual violence, such as sexist humor. Therefore, it is important in the end to know how students perceive sexist humor as a form of verbal sexual violence. This research uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques were carried out by observation, interview, documentation, and literature study. The subjects in this study were 5 students who are currently actively studying in higher education who were determined using purposive sampling technique. The results showed that there are two main perceptions of sexist humor, namely sexist humor as a form of verbal sexual violence and sexist humor as a form of joke. The researcher also found that the determination of perceptions was motivated by gender factors and the closeness between the perpetrator and the victim.

Exposure of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians to Violence in Community Pharmacies in Southeast Europe: Frequency and Ethical Considerations.

Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians working in community pharmacies are exposed to the risk of violence in their workplaces. Studies have shown that workplace violence is affecting their job satisfaction, productivity, and mental health. This study aims to identify the frequency of different types of violence, as well as the common perpetrators that community pharmacy staff in SEE (Southeast Europe) are dealing with. A cross-sectional study was conducted using an online questionnaire created for this purpose. Selected community pharmacies in Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro participated in this study. In total, 732 responses were collected from 24 pharmacy chains or independent pharmacies including all community pharmacy staff. More than 80% of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians reported having been exposed to verbal violence at the workplace, while more than 20% of them reported physical and sexual violence in the preceding 12 months. There were no statistically significant differences between pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, gender, age groups, or countries in relation to exposure to physical, verbal, and sexual violence. The most common perpetrators were identified as patients/clients. More than 90% of pharmacy staff reported they did not receive any kind of support from their employer nor any other help after experiencing a robbery. There is a need for a structured approach to addressing violence in pharmacies including organized support for pharmacy staff. Achieving quality patient care, despite dealing with violent individuals or situations daily, is one of the greatest ethical challenges for healthcare providers in community pharmacies to be empowered.

Effects of Verbal Abuse Experience and Communication Competence on Burnout among Operating Room Nurses

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to identify the effect of verbal abuse experience and communication competence on burnout among operating room nurses. This study is a cross-sectional descriptive study that tests the relationship between variables. Methods: Subjects were 134 operating room nurses working at one tertiary hospital and two general hospitals with more than 400 beds and data were collected from September 27 to October 17, 2022. The questionnaire included verbal abuse experience, communication competence, and burnout. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation, multiple regression analysis using SPSS WIN 27.0. Results: The mean score of verbal abuse experience was 2.03 ± 0.53, that of physician’s was 2.09 ± 0.54, that of nurses’ was 1.95 ± 0.70, that of communication competence was 3.60 ± 0.50, and that of burnout was 3.29 ± 0.78. Burnout has the positive relationship with the verbal abuse experience (r = 0.51, p < 0.001), whereas a negative correlation was observed with communication competence (r = -0.25, p = 0.003). Factors affecting burnout included verbal abuse experience (β = 0.26, p = 0.001), nursing job satisfaction; not satisfied (β = 0.26, p < 0.001), not healthy (β = 0.26, p = 0.009), nursing job satisfaction; moderate (β = 0.22, p = 0.002), and communication competence (β = -0.16, p = 0.027), with 46.1% explanatory power (F = 10.49, p < 0.001). Conclusions: This study shows that verbal abuse experience is factor that exacerbate burnout while communication competence is factor that reduce burnout in nurses. Therefore, a strategy are needed to prevent exposure to verbal abuse violence and improve communication competence.

Adolescent Verbal Violent Behavior and Emotional Intelligence: A Cross-Sectional Study

In today's world, verbal violence is a prevalent issue, especially among adolescents. Typically, the perpetrators are the victims' peers, and this can have detrimental effects on the victims, including a decrease in emotional intelligence. The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between peer verbal violence and emotional intelligence in adolescents. The study utilized a cross-sectional design and involved 120 teenage boarding school students, with a sample of 92 active adolescent students selected through simple random sampling. The research instruments included a bullying questionnaire (consisting of 12 questions) adapted from Tower and an emotional intelligence self-assessment tool (comprising 20 questions) adapted from Sterret. Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman Rank Test, which revealed a significant relationship (ρ value of 0.000) between peer verbal violence and emotional intelligence in adolescents. The study highlighted the adverse effects of peer verbal violent behaviour, such as hindering self-development, reducing empathy, and causing anxiety and shame, as well as potentially triggering similar violent behaviour by the perpetrator. As a result, it emphasizes the need for schools to take collaborative action to minimize violent verbal behaviour.

Evaluasi Kebijakan Sekolah Ramah Anak pada SMPN 18 Kota Tangerang Selatan

The primary objective of this study is to assess the child-friendly school programs in South Tangerang City, with a specific focus on SMPN 18 South Tangerang City. The research aims to identify areas for improvement in order to enhance the effectiveness of these programs in the upcoming year. Leo Agustino (2023) Evaluation theory serves as the framework, encompassing elements such as apparatus or human resources, institutions, infrastructure and technology, finance, and regulations. Data for this study were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, while the analysis involved data reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research site was SMPN 18 South Tangerang City. Key findings include: (1) Insufficient human resources in the implementation of child-friendly school programs; (2) Lack of collaboration and coordination among program implementers; (3) Adequate but insufficient Facilities, Infrastructure, and Technology, leading to disruptions in teaching and learning activities; (4) Financial shortcomings, necessitating independent fundraising by the school to support program activities; (5) Adherence to regulations governing child-friendly school programs, yet suboptimal impact due to prevalent physical and verbal violence in the school environment. In summary, the study sheds light on various challenges in the current implementation of child-friendly school programs at SMPN 18 South Tangerang City, providing valuable insights for improvement in the upcoming year.

Workplace Violence Against Nurses in Psychiatric Hospitals in Oman: A cross-sectional multi-centre study.

This study aimed to assess the prevalence of workplace violence (WPV) against nurses in Oman's psychiatric hospitals and explore associated factors. This cross-sectional study was conducted between October and December 2021 and included all tertiary mental healthcare hospitals in Oman (Al Masarra Hospital and Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, Muscat, Oman). The participants completed a sociodemographic survey and a questionnaire on WPV in the health sector. A total of 106 participants (response rate = 80.3%) were included in this study. Most were female (52.8%) and Omani (72.6%) and aged 30-39 years. WPV prevalence was high (90.6%), with verbal (86.8%) and physical violence (57.5%) being the most common types. WPV incidents were more frequent on weekdays (26.4%) and during morning shifts (34%), while 81.1% of the nurses worked in shifts and had direct physical contact with patients (83.0%). The majority (92.5%) were aware of standardised WPV reporting procedures and 89.7% confirmed the presence of such procedures in hospitals. WPV was more prevalent among nurses in inpatient wards (P = 0.047). WPV against nurses in Omani psychiatric hospitals is alarmingly high. Future studies should investigate contributing factors among healthcare providers and emphasise violence prevention by providing staff nurses with effective training to handle violent incidents involving psychiatric patients.

Humans are called social creatures because in life there is always a process of interaction between fellow humans. Each individual has different conflicts, starting from conflicts in the interaction process, violent conflicts, both verbal and non-verbal violence. At SMP 35 Medan, there have been increasing reports of cases of bullying among students. This behavior includes various forms of physical, verbal, social violence and even cyberbullying. The method used in this research is qualitative, a research model that uses descriptive data in the form of written or spoken language from people and actors who can be observed. This qualitative research is conducted to explain and analyze individual or group phenomena, events, social dynamics, attitudes, beliefs and perceptions. The research results refer to. The impact of bullying on mental health is a serious problem that can affect victims in various aspects of their lives. Studies show that the experience of being a victim of bullying can have a significant negative impact on an individual's mental health, especially in children and adolescents.

Experiences of verbal violence among people with intellectual disabilities in Israel.

This study examines the extent of exposure to verbal violence experienced by people with intellectual disabilities and whether it differs based on their housing situation: living in the community, with family, or in a residential facility. One hundred and eighty-nine people with intellectual disabilities were interviewed about their experience with verbal violence. Eighty-six percent reported experiencing verbal violence in their lifetime and approximately 77% experienced it the past week. Participants were most likely to be yelled at, and friends were the most common perpetrators. While there were few differences by setting, people living with their families were more likely to be laughed at and marginally more likely to experience rude comments. Verbal violence is prevalent in the lives of people with intellectual disabilities in Israel. Interventions are necessary to assist people with intellectual disabilities to deal with such incidents, with possible additional supports needed for those living with family.

Workplace violence against healthcare workers in rural health facilities of Bangladesh and their quality of life: A cross-sectional study

Background: The prevalence of verbal and physical violence against healthcare workers (HCWs) is reportedly high in Bangladesh. We aimed to determine the prevalence and risk factors associated with violence against HCWs in Bangladesh. Methods: This cross-sectional study was done in May-June 2021 among 378 physicians and nurses working in 19 randomly selected rural government health facilities. A self-administered validated Bangla version of the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire on workplace violence (WPV) and the quality of life (QoL) was used. Multiple logistic regression analyses were done to find out the independent risk factors of WPV. Results: The prevalence of overall WPV was about 48.0% (psychological 46.6%, physical 5.0%, and sexual harassment 1.9%). However, the WPV reporting rate was very low (27.8%). Being a male (aOR= 2.18; 95% confidence interval: 1.22−3.90) and a physician (aOR = 2.93; 95% CI: 1.56−5.52) had increased the likelihood of experiencing WPV. HCWs who were encouraged to report WPV were less likely to experience WPV (aOR = 0.36; 95% CI: 0.18−0.70). Study participants exposed to WPV had sig-nificantly lower QoL (P<0.01) in all the domains of WHOQOL-BREF (physical, psychological, social, and environmental). Conclusion: The study findings revealed that half of the HCWs working at rural government health facilities experienced WPV, which warrants proper investigation to adopt effective measures to reduce future occurrence. Moreover, the QoL of HCWs working in the aforementioned health facilities was significantly influenced by exposure to WPV.
