e rapid boom in technological advances during the 20th century transformed the dream of further space exploration from a dream to stark reality. #e hostile relations of the Cold War that spurred the so-called “space race” gave way to international cooperation in space investigation. However, the cooperative tone experienced over the past few decades is not entirely indicative of the global political landscape. International space relations are still developing, as is the international space law. Without any formal authority over the regulation of space ventures, the possibility of dissension remains. #is paper explores the potential for international con&ict over the resources, control, and even military presence in outer space. #e United States’ dominance as the acting authority over outer space enterprises will result in a great impact global politics in both the near and distant future.
