Analysis of Landslide Disaster Impact Identification Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and Geographic Information System (GIS) (Case Study: Ngesrep Sub District, Semarang City)

Landslide is a natural disaster that commonly happens in Indonesia, especially in Region of Semarang that geologically has hilly topography. In Semarang city, there are 22 Sub Districts classified as landslide potential areas, which one of them is Sub District Ngesrep, based on to BPBD Semarang. The disaster of landslides can cause human injuries and loss in infrastructure, life, and assets. Disaster management requires identifying for the impact of landslide disaster at a location. One of the methods to identifying the impact of landslide disaster uses UAV technology. UAV technology can be used to collect, map, extract information of landslide and build Digital Model in surface or elevation based on overlapping imageries. Elevation data from UAV are combined with data of rainfall, land cover and geological which will produce the map of the potential landslide disaster. The map of the potential landslide disaster is combined with the result of land cover digitation to determine the impact of landslide disaster.

Vehicle Plate Monitoring and Information System Using Optical Character Recognition (OC) Technique

The existing license plate recognition is designed usually for automatic toll collection, maintaining traffic activities and law enforcement. The researches put an innovation to make and used this kind of system in which it may resolve the problem of inaccurate data of vehicles entering school premises of Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST).This problem then leads to the motivation of the researchers to conduct a research project about monitoring vehicles automatically. The system followed the steps of image processing with OCR. Using OCR the VPMIS is capable to convert captured images into a string and can be viewed as a text. Converted text will try to match text data from the database; if there is a match, the logs will be stored, if it doesn't the system will capture and save images into one folder. System Performance testing shows that 99.9 % the Vehicle Plate Monitoring and Information System (VPMIS) can detect license plate and 67% the system is capable to record with a specified parameter at two (2) meters away from the camera. The capacity to which the maximum limits of the system parameters meets the requirements

The article presents the results of study assessment process modeling features current and projected technical condition of the car and vehicles in general during their operation. The following features of remote monitoring parameters of the vehicle information system in terms of ITS. It is confirmed that the monitoring of the vehicle is one of the management functions and parameters of the conditions of its operation, based on gathering information and research facility focused on adherence operation set values of use and implementation of the planned measures. It is shown that significant spatial extent, complexity and distribution real operating conditions of vehicles and transport infrastructure with its variety of features and can be considered an object of automation of modern vehicles as complex systems for information under ITS. The formal display of monitoring technical condition of the vehicle under real operating conditions.

PTFA: a secure and privacy-preserving traffic flow analysis scheme for intelligent transportation system

With the pervasiveness of vehicle information systems (VIS) and the advance of vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET), intelligent transportation systems (ITS), which can improve road traffic and reduce traffic accidents, have attracted considerable interest recently. However, the development of ITS still faces many challenges including privacy of individual data and locations. In this paper, we propose a secure and privacy-preserving traffic flow analysis scheme, called PTFA, for ITS. With PTFA, user privacy can be guaranteed when the manager acquires the fine-grained traffic information. We first map the information of roads to a super increasing sequence; then, construct an improved multi-dimensional aggregation scheme based on the homomorphic Paillier cryptosystem. For data communications from user to traffic regional-centre (TRC), data aggregation is performed directly on ciphertext at road side units (RSUs) without decryption, and the aggregation result of the original data can be obtained at the TRC. Detailed security analysis shows that the proposed PTFA scheme can efficiently achieve user privacy-preserving in ITS. In addition, performance evaluations via extensive simulations demonstrate the PTFA's effectiveness in terms of providing fine-grained traffic information processing and minimising communication cost.

Impact of optimisation on idle time's fuel consumption and CO<SUB align="right">2 emissions in urban transportation

There is ample innovation ensuing in the domain of automated transport and vehicle information and communication systems. This is especially the case in urban transport where idle driving is a significant factor. This work examines the benefits, of reducing idle driving, to be achieved if the ability of routing vehicles (or advising drivers of optimal routes) is acquired via the use of real-time information. This work approximates this real-time environment by an optimal network. The goal of this work is to assess the impact of optimisation on a given supply chain transportation network by contrasting optimal solutions to non-optimal solutions. The optimal solutions would be the result of mathematically programming a given supply chain network and then comparing it to the null case. The overall model is probabilistic one, where statistical distributions are used to generate numerous instances. The outcome of the work would be the presentation of numerical values that emphasise how much an optimal system would render in terms fuel consumption and CO2 emission avoidances.

Extended Utilization of Electric Vehicles and their Re-used Batteries to Support the Building Energy Management System

Abstract This study focuses on the utilization of EVs and their used batteries to support the building energy management system (BEMS). The main objective of this utilization is to perform a load leveling in which the peak load demand is shifted to the off-peak hours. Both theoretical and experimental studies were conducted to measure the feasibility of this utilization. Experimental test bed has been developed consisting of five EVs, five used EV batteries, and a PV panel. Load leveling is planned by BEMS in 24 hours priorly. EV availability including its position and battery condition is provided by vehicle information system. The developed system proved that utilization of EVs and their used batteries are feasible, hence, can be applied to support BEMS.

VIRMS: A VEHICLE INFORMATION AND ROAD MONITORING SYSTEM

Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) are emerging technologies for building collaborative vehicular networks to increase road safety and to improve driver’s experience. Unfortunately these technologies require heavy infrastructure to be deployed inside and outside the vehicle that is difficult to extend. In this article we present VIRMS (Vehicle Information and Road Monitoring System), an ITS that is based on low-cost and small footprint client and server infrastructure that was designed to increase vehicular security and reduce accident rates along highways. The VIRMS remote client device is an on board vehicle electronic device that gathers data from sensors and processes the collected data that is sent to the VIRMS server in order to keep drivers informed with precise context information through the detection and identification of events (accidents, traffic jams, bad weather conditions, etc.) along the roads. A prototype running tests on Bolivian highways show that VIRMS can give a technological answer to a real problem where road safety is one of the highest issues and cause of mortality.

Using Abstraction Hierarchy as a Structured Approach in Verifying Data Quality in Driving Research

Data lost or misconstrued due to malfunctioning research equipment affects accuracy, results and analyses that driving researchers report. Carefully studying the data collection system with an Abstraction Hierarchy gathers necessary information about the equipment location and capabilities which can highlight issues in the collected data where completeness and quality are lacking. Use of this structured method to describe the instrumented research vehicle information system is a new application; however, Abstraction Hierarchy has been used in complex systems such as power, chemical and nuclear industries in order to improve the reliability of the human-machine interfaces. In this application, the Abstraction Hierarchy identified potential operating temperature issues affecting the quality of the data, provided avenues to clearly define how behavioral variables were measured, equated input and output sampling rates to show potential problems in the system and used similar variables to cross-check the consistency of the data. This is the first step in developing a structured approach to verifying data quality.

A review of technological improvements in bus rapid transit (BRT) and buses with high level of service (BHLS)

Bus rapid transit BRT, and its European counterpart buses with high level of service BHLS, have been adopted by more than 160 cities around the world as a low cost, rapid implementation option for improved transit services. This paper summarizes some past advances of BRT and BHLS and presents some trends in vehicle guidance, propulsion technologies and information systems which are shaping the future of bus systems. We use the cities of Curitiba, Paris, Bogota, Santiago, Istanbul, and Guangzhou to present relevant breakthroughs in bus system evolution. Thanks to the advances pioneered in these cities, BRT and BHLS became feasible alternatives to or complement metro and trams, and an integral part of integrated transit solutions, even in megacities like Mexico, Rio de Janeiro, Beijing, and New York. Evolution is ongoing; cities and providers are advancing technological components to enhance passenger experience and improve the technical, economic and environmental performance of BRT and BHLS.

Application of Executable UML Technology for Verification of Armored Vehicle Information System Model

Executable UML is one of development directions of Model Driven Architecture (MDA). Executable UML is committed to the automatic code generation from UML model. The simulation and testing of the model is realized either by compiling the model or by executing the code it generate. For solving the problem that how to confirm the correctness of executable model, this paper researches the mechanism of executable UML model and explore a verification method based on executable UML. Finally, researches how to apply the executable mechanism of Executable UML to the design and verification of Armored Vehicle Information System (AVIS) through an imaginary combat mission scenario.

Driver Workload Characteristics Analysis Using EEG Data From an Urban Road

The main cause of traffic accidents is drivers' human errors such as cognitive, judgment, and execution errors. To mitigate drivers' human errors, research on the measurement and quantification of driver workload as well as the development of smart vehicles is needed. Drivers' behavior while driving includes driving straight, turning left or right, U-turns, rapid acceleration, rapid deceleration, and changing lanes. To measure and quantify a driving workload, both the subjective workload and the behavior workload caused by varied driving behaviors should be taken into account on the basis of understanding the visual, auditory, cognitive, and psychomotor characteristics of the driving workload. In this paper, we analyze electroencephalogram (EEG) data collected through an urban road driving test. To overcome large deviations of EEG values among drivers, we used EEG variation rates instead of raw EEG values. We extracted five kinds of behavior sections from the data: left-turn section, right-turn section, rapid-acceleration section, rapid-deceleration section, and lane-change section. We then selected a reference section for each of these behavior sections and compared EEG values from the behavior sections with those from the reference sections to calculate the EEG variation rates, after which we made the statistical analysis. The analysis results of this study are being used to explain the cognitive characteristics of a driving workload caused by drivers' behavior in the vehicle information system, which will provide information for safe driving by taking into account the driving workload.

Application of exact route optimization for the evaluation of a city logistics truck ban scheme

This paper presents an application of the exact solution approach for the Vehicle Routing Problem with Soft Time Windows based on the column generation scheme developed earlier by the authors, for evaluating a truck ban scheme from the environmental improvement aspect on a realistic logistics instance based on the Vehicle Information and Communication System data, which is an Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) application in Japan. Two different types of truck ban schemes are evaluated, one which denies truck entry on congested links (with average speeds lower than a threshold) and the other with and without the availability of the ITS-based data to freight firms. It was found that the Uniform truck ban on low travel speed links can result in a win-win situation, improving the environmental conditions as well as reducing the operation cost for freight carriers in a scenario where freight carriers do not have access to ITS-based travel time information. While the use of an exact optimization method and with ITS-based historical traffic information still helps in reducing environmental impacts, freight companies are slightly worst-off as far as the operation cost is concerned.

Development of Internet of Vehicle's Information System based on Cloud

As traditional mobile terminals have been unable to meet the needs of vehicle navigation, mobile office and etc, large amount of data from all kinds of sensors need to be acquired, stored and processed with the advent of Internet of vehicle. This paper puts forward vehicle network information processing platform based on Cloud, and designs the vehicle mobile terminal functions and interface functions. And the feasibility and reliability of data processing platform are verified by experiments.

A Route Handoff Method Based on Virtual Private Network in Vehicle Information Network

Vehicle information system is the data center of vehicle communication networks, and the vehicle gateway is the core of the vehicle information system, in order to support the vehicle information system both WLAN and CDMA interfaces, a virtual network device (VND) in Linux embedded System is designed and implemented as a mid-layer module between the real device driver and internet protocol stack called driver middleware. The VND can establish a virtual private network between the vehicle information device and agent server. The virtual network interface is designed to catch the packets both input and output processing for the sake of checking the route before the packets transmission. Both the terminal and the agent have the driver middleware to ensure smooth flow routing.

IPv6 in IPv4 Virtual Private Network Based on Virtual Devices in Vehicle Information System

Vehicle information system is the data center of vehicle communication networks, for the sake of connecting the IPv6 host through IPv4 network area, a virtual network device (VND) in Linux embedded System is designed and implemented as a mid-layer module between the real device driver and internet protocol stack. The VND can establish a virtual tunnel between the vehicle information device and agent server. Both vehicle information device and agent server can support IPv4 and IPv6.Through the virtual tunnel, the agent server picked up the IPv6 packet which was built in IPv4 UDP data area, and transmit the IPv6 packets to the IPv6 remote server. So it works like a VPN device. The hardware platform of the vehicle gateway is based on ARM9, and the software is based on ARM-Linux. The instruction of hardware and software are as well as put forward.

A Study on the Menu Type of Instrument Cluster IVIS

Objective: This research was carried out to study the menu type design of instrument cluster IVIS(In Vehicle Information System) for efficient navigation under deconcentrated situations. Background: A driver controls the IVIS menu using the rest of cognitive resources while driving a car. Although a driver controls the IVIS using extra cognition resources, his or her distraction can still cause some safety problems while driving. Menu type design of instrument cluster is absolutely important for safe and efficient navigation. Method: Four menu types including paging, flow, icon, and list type were identified through reviewing the existing IVIS of vehicle and the menu structure of cellular phone. Four menu types were evaluated through experiment. The experiment consisted of primary and secondary task, which the primary task was to simulate a driving and the secondary task was to control an IVIS menu prototype. Task performances, menu type preferences, and eye-movement patterns were measured in this experiment. Results: The result shows that icon type was the best design in aspect of task performance and preference. A clue for next menu item provided a positive effect for efficient menu navigation. It was identified that most of subjects gazed the middle-top area of IVIS screen from eye-movement pattern. Conclusion: A basic design of Instrument Cluster IVIS was proposed considering the result of this study in the final. Application: The results of this study can be effectively used in the design of Instrument Cluster IVIS.

PPZTEM: An efficient approximate trajectory extraction method with error bound constraint for wireless sensor networks

Trajectory extraction has been studied in many research areas, including traditional spatio-temporal databases, advanced vehicle information systems, and military surveillance. In wireless sensor networks, several factors make it difficult to acquire an object’s trajectory, including imprecise and stream-oriented localized locations, limited sensor storage, and limited bandwidth. This paper proposes the Possible Presence Zone Trajectory Extraction Method (PPZTEM) with an error bound control mechanism to extract the approximate object trajectory from imprecise localized locations. PPZTEM constructs a trajectory that describes the most probable path of an object in wireless sensor networks. The constructed trajectory of PPZTEM satisfies the given error bound constraint and requires only a small amount of data. Experiments on a broad variety of synthetic and real-world object trajectories reveal that PPZTEM significantly reduces the data size of the trajectory by fusing the localized locations. At the same time PPZTEM achieves user-specified error constraints on the estimated locations.

A Service-oriented Architecture Framework for Emergency Vehicles Information System

Using Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) to build an information system is a hot topic at present. The primary goal of this paper is to investigate how to build a SOA-based information system in a special industrythe field of emergency vehicles in environment protection industry. The paper provides a presentation of current compositions of the emergency vehicles information system and then gives out the system structure. The paper proceeds with the business process flow and working principle of an emergency vehicle information system. A service-oriented architecture framework for emergency vehicles information system is proposed.
