Vapor-liquid equilibrium in binary mixtures of nitrogen and quinoline

This work is part of a continuing study of phase equilibrium in asymmetric mixtures of light solutes and heavy solvents. The objective is to enlarge the state of knowledge in the direction of high temperature for high-pressure systems and to extend it to new solutes and solvents. In this work we report the phase behavior of mixtures of nitrogen + quinoline. There are no previous investigations of this binary system.

A STUDY ON THE THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF ASSOCIATED SOLUTIONS BY LINEAR ASSOCIATION MODELS

The excess thermodynamic properties of associated solutions are discussed by using the linear association models (I) and (II). The linear association model (I) deals with the self-associated system by making distinctions between the association constant and association energy of dimer formation and those of polymer formations. The results of the calculation show that the distinguishing effects are relatively small in quality. The linear association model (II) is proposed as one of the models for the system having the species associated with like and unlike molecules. A characteristic of this model is the existence of a maximum point on the activity coefficient curve. Good results are obtained in the application of model (II) to correlate and interpret the vapor-liquid equilibria for binary mixtures of alcohols and interacting solvents.

Calculation of high-pressure vapour-liquid equilibria with a perturbed hard-sphere equation of state

Barker-Henderson perturbation theory is applied to calculation of vapour-liquid equilibria for binary mixtures of spherical-type molecules at pressures up to the critical. Upon fitting pure-fluid perturbation theory to experimental P, V, T data using the spherical-core Kihara potential, vapour-liquid equilibrium calculations are made for the argon + neopentane system at 50°C and the methane + neopentane system at 25°C. Excellent agreement with experimental results is obtained.
