Johnson, H. L. ; Perkins, Barbara ; Hiltner, W. A. Abstract Photoelectric observations of UX Ursae Majoris at three effective wave lengths on eleven nights are published and discussed. A "typical" light-curve appears to be one of a bright shoulder before principal minimum, a minimum with a depth of about 1.1 mag., a standstill on the ascending branch of the minimum, and after minimum a slow decrease in brightness to phase 0.7, when the light increases to the bright shoulder before minimum. No secondary minimum was detected. The light-curve does not repeat, however, with differences as great as 0.5 mag. in the ultraviolet. Fluctuations of a smaller scale of 0.2 mag. in the ultraviolet and half as great in the blue and yellow are often observed. These intrinsic variations in magnitude often have a period near 20 minutes. Fluctuations of much shorter duration are present but are not resolved. Data regarding changes in depth of minima are given. The presence of a mass of gas in and about the system is favored as a working hypothesis for the peculiarities "typical" light-curve and the intrinsic fluctuations. A geometrical analysis of the light-curve was not attempted.
