Utilization of Bidara Leaf Plant (Ziziphus mauritiana) as Feed Aditive For Carcass, Abdomen Fat, and Inside Organ In Raja Duck

This study aims to determine the application of Bidara leaves (Ziziphus mauritiana) as a feed additive at different percentages of carcasses, abdominal fat, and internal organs in Raja ducks. This study used 80 DOD Raja ducks. This study used an experimental method with a randomized block design (RBD) consisting of 4 treatments and 5 groups. Treatment of Bidara leaf plants A(0%), B(1%), C(2%) and D(3%). The results showed that the use of Bidara leaves as a feed additive, using a percentage of 2% was the best for carcass percentage of 66.79%, abdominal fat percentage of 0.78%, liver percentage of 2.27%, and proventriculus percentage of 0.42%. Efficient in using Bidara leaf plants against Raja ducks. The conclusion of this study showed that the use of Bidara leaves as a feed additive at different percentages had significance on the abdominal fat carcasses and internal organs of the Raja duck, but had nonsignificant on the proventriculus organs.

Plant Use and Cereal Cultivation Inferred from Integrated Archaeobotanical Analysis of an Ottoman Age Moat Sequence (Szigetvár, Hungary)

Abstract Suleiman the Magnificent died during the siege of Szigetvár in 1566, close to the battlefield in Turbék Vineyard Hill site, Hungary. On the place of his death, a memorial place was established with a tomb, a mosque, a monastery, and a deep moat system north of the building complex. After its destruction, the memorial place was covered with demolished material and soil. This significant site was re-identified and excavated during the archaeological, historical, and geoarchaeological research work that started in 2015. As a result of the correlative evaluation of previously published sedimentological and chronological data, the filling of the moat accumulated during the seventeenth century. Our goal was the natural and anthropogenic vegetation reconstruction of the adjacent region of the memorial place and the plant utilization of the community living there. During the analyses, more than 30,000 plant remains were identified belonging to 77 taxa. The results gave indications for ploughed lands, vegetable and fruit cultivation, vineyards, pasture lands, forest patches, and trampled areas related to active human activity. The lithostratigraphic and geochronological results of the moat sequence coincide well with our carpological and anthracological data.

Damakase (<i>Ocimum lamiifolum</i> Hochest ex Benth): A Medicinal Plant Used in Ethiopian Traditional Medicine: A Critical Review

Damakase (<i>Ocimum lamiifolum </i>Hochest ex Benth) is a traditional medicinal plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family and a popular home remedy in Ethiopia. It is a well-known and widely used ancient therapeutic herb in various regions of the nation. The utilization of plant leaves for medicinal purposes is primarily due to their rich content of bioactive compounds with therapeutic properties. Consequently, this plant is employed in the management of a condition referred to as 'Mich' in Ethiopia. Additionally, it is frequently used to address diverse health conditions, including gastrointestinal disorders, inflammatory conditions, pyrexia, and respiratory ailments. Moreover, the essential oil derived from Ocimum lamiifolium consists of specific chemical constituents, such as alkaloids, sterols, carbohydrates, glycosides, tannins, flavonoids, bornyl acetate, p-cymene, camphene, α-pinene, and sabinene. Bioactive constituents, such as phenolics, flavonoids, and terpenoids, exhibit antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. Furthermore, the potential applications of damakase essential oils as natural preservatives in the food and cosmetic sectors have been recognized. The essential oil is deemed safe and non-hazardous, displaying no mutagenic or cytotoxic effects. Despite the extensive historical use of this traditional medicinal plant in Ethiopia, the limited scientific investigations on its genetic improvement, cultivation practices, and integration into modern healthcare pose a notable challenge. This review aims to furnish a comprehensive discourse on the historical and contemporary applications of traditional damakase in Ethiopian traditional medicine.

Molecular Plant Physiology for Model Plants under Abiotic Stress Conditions

Extreme temperatures, drought, and high soil salinity are some of the significant abiotic stresses that can severely impact crop yields, posing a threat to global food production. Comprehensive studies on model plant species are crucial for understanding their biochemical, physiological, and molecular responses to abiotic stresses. Identifying stress response mechanisms and potential targets can aid in developing stress-tolerant crop varieties. Additionally, elucidating the functions of reactive oxygen species is essential for this research area. In model plants, the perception of abiotic stresses is a complex phenomenon that entails intricate interactions between hormones, gene regulation, and physiology. The presence of specific stress receptors and sensors contributes to this perception. Activating signaling pathways involves a cascade of events, starting with generating reactive oxygen species, then calcium signaling and MAP kinase signaling. Because of these processes, transcription factors and genes susceptible to stress are ultimately activated in the latter stages. It starts with a series of physiological and biochemical modifications, which entail adjustments in photosynthesis and the accumulation of osmoprotectants. We have gained significant insights from studying model plant stress responses, but there remain considerable challenges in effectively applying these findings to enhance crop resilience. These challenges contribute to reproducing the results across various species. These difficulties arise because of phenotypes, molecular mechanisms, and genetic differences. The utilization of model plants will persist in their crucial role as essential systems for unraveling the complexities of plant stress responses. They will play a vital role in overcoming present constraints, particularly in areas such as the mathematical modeling of plant physiology. The exploration of gene function across species can significantly contribute to efforts aimed at improving crops. The key to addressing threats to global food security and promoting crop stress resilience lies in adopting a multi-pronged approach that uses model plant systems.

A breakthrough in phytochemical profiling: ultra-sensitive surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy platform for detecting bioactive components in medicinal and edible plants.

A perennial challenge in harnessing the rich biological activity of medicinal and edible plants is the accurate identification and sensitive detection of their active compounds. In this study, an innovative, ultra-sensitive detection platform for plant chemical profiling is created using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) technology. The platform uses silver nanoparticles as the enhancing substrate, excess sodium borohydride prevents substrate oxidation, and methanol enables the tested molecules to be better adsorbed onto the silver nanoparticles. Subsequently, nanoparticle aggregation to form stable "hot spots" is induced by Ca2+, and the Raman signal of the target molecule is strongly enhanced. At the same time, deuterated methanol was used as the internal standard for quantitative determination. The method has excellent reproducibility, RSD ≤ 1.79%, and the enhancement factor of this method for the detection of active ingredients in the medicinal plant Coptis chinensis was 1.24 × 109, with detection limits as low as 3 fM. The platform successfully compared the alkaloid distribution in different parts of Coptis chinensis: root > leaf > stem, and the difference in content between different batches of Coptis chinensis decoction was successfully evaluated. The analytical technology adopted by the platform can speed up the determination of Coptis chinensis and reduce the cost of analysis, not only making better use of these valuable resources but also promoting development and innovation in the food and pharmaceutical industries. This study provides a new method for the development, evaluation, and comprehensive utilization of both medicinal and edible plants. It is expected that this method will be extended to the modern rapid detection of other medicinal and edible plants and will provide technical support for the vigorous development of the medicinal and edible plants industry.

Exploring Phytotherapy's Preventive and Therapeutic Impact on Global COVID-19 Management: A Narrative Review

Introduction:: The WHO Emergency Committee advocates preventive strategies for COVID-19 management, emphasising vaccines as highly effective but acknowledging their limitations. Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, initially effective against COVID-19, were discontinued due to severe side effects. Further clinical trials are imperative to establish the safety and efficacy of new antiviral agents, some of which may have harmful effects on human development. Objectives:: The shortcomings of various conventional treatments have prompted urgent efforts to discover safe, natural compounds that may be useful in combating COVID-19. This study aims to review research that has investigated the potential of traditional phytotherapies used by different populations for the prevention and symptomatic treatment of COVID-19 infection. Methods:: This paper reviewed scientific studies published through searching on search engines such as PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect and Elsevier from May until October 2023. Results:: The preventive and anti-COVID-19 attributes of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurvedic formulations and African medicinal plants have been substantiated in research. In Nepal, recommendations endorse the utilisation of medicinal plants for herbal teas and homemade sanitizers. Zingiber officinale, Curcuma longa L. and Curcuma xanthorriza Roxb., along with Camellia sinensis are crucial Indonesian medicinal plants with potential for treating COVID-19. Z. officinale was predominantly chosen for relieving coughs and sore throats associated with COVID-19 in Saudi Arabia. Discussion:: The immunomodulatory properties of medicinal plants, which may prove useful in combating COVID-19, have been verified via elevation of the level of peripheral WBCs, IgM, IgG; inhibition of leukotrienes and prostaglandins, maintenance of the integrity of intestinal mucosal barrier and regulation of HMGB1. The antiviral effects of herbs, including the inhibition of viral DNA and RNA replication, down-regulation of oxidative stress, and the impediment of SARS-CoV-2 access to vascular endothelial cells, suggest their potential to facilitate earlier recovery from COVID-19 infection. Conclusion:: Advancing scientific research in phytotherapy promises the possibility of novel approaches for effectively managing future infectious diseases and pandemics.

AbSolut - Integration of Absorption Technologies in District Heating and Cooling Systems for Enhanced Economic and Ecological Impact

District heating (DH) systems play a crucial role in meeting heating demands across the European Union (EU) and Austria, with significant potential for energy efficiency improvements and decarbonization. However, the transition towards climate neutrality by 2040 poses significant challenges, particularly in decarbonizing existing DH systems and integrating renewable energy sources. This work explores the application of absorption technologies, specifically absorption heat exchangers (AHX), absorption chillers (AC), and absorption heat pumps (AHP), in optimizing DH systems. The study investigates the utilization of AHX as transfer substations to increase heat capacity within existing grids by up to 30%, facilitating the integration of renewables and reducing distribution heat losses. Additionally, AC implementation for cooling supply demonstrates efficiency improvements through dynamic operation modes, renewable energy integration, and reduced electricity demand. Furthermore, AHP for waste heat utilization in DH power plants showcases environmental benefits, cost savings, and enhanced energy security. Through detailed techno-economic analyses and case studies, the paper evaluates the viability and economic feasibility of absorption technologies in DH applications. Challenges such as system integration, spatial requirements, and driving energy optimization are addressed, offering insights into overcoming barriers to adoption. Overall, the research highlights the transformative potential of absorption technologies in enhancing the efficiency, sustainability, and resilience of DH systems. Ethnobotanical survey on herbal remedies for the management of type 2 diabetes in the Casablanca-Settat region, Morocco

BackgroundMorocco faces a substantial public health challenge due to diabetes mellitus, affecting 12.4% of adults in 2023. The Moroccan population makes extensive use of phytotherapy and traditional medicine to address the difficulties this chronic condition poses. The aim of this study is to document the use of medicinal plants in traditional medicine for managing type 2 diabetes in the provinces of the Casablanca-Settat region.MethodsThe study employed a semi-structured questionnaire for data collection. A study was conducted between August 1st and September 30th, 2023, and 244 individuals diagnosed with diabetes were invited to take part in the research, all of whom used at least one medicinal plant to manage type 2 diabetes, by visiting primary healthcare facilities in Morocco. The analysis included the use of Relative Frequency of Citation (RFC) to scrutinize the data.ResultsA total of 47 plant species belonging to 25 families were documented. Notably, the Apiaceae, Lamiaceae, and Fabaceae families were frequently mentioned in the context of treating type 2 diabetes in Morocco. Prominent among the cited plant species were Sesamum indicum L., Lepidium sativum L., followed by Foeniculum vulgare Mill., and Rosmarinus officinalis L. Seeds emerged as the plant part most commonly mentioned, with infusion being the prevailing preparation method and oral consumption being the most frequently depicted method of administration.ConclusionThis research underscores the practicality of incorporating traditional medicine into the healthcare framework of the Casablanca-Settat region. The findings not only offer valuable documentation but also have a vital function in safeguarding knowledge regarding the utilization of medicinal plants in this locality. Moreover, they provide opportunities to delve deeper into the phytochemical and pharmacological potential of these plants.

Evaluation of antimicrobial activity and bioactive compound analysis of Verbascum thapsus L. A folklore medicinal plant

BackgroundThe prevalence of microbial infectious diseases is a major contributor to morbidity and mortality on a global scale due to the emergence of antibiotic-resistant microbes, despite the fact that many new antibiotics have been introduced for several decades. In present scenario, the potential utilization of natural plant derived extracts for medicinal and therapeutic purposes has increased remarkably due to adverse effects of synthetic drugs and resistance among pathogenic microbes. Aim of the studyVerbascum thapsus L. (Common mullein) has been traditionally used as a medicine for lung, skin and throat and many other disorders since time immemorial, therefore, the current study was aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of leaf and root extracts of Verbascum thapsus against pathogenic bacterial and fungal strains and its phytochemical composition by spectral studies. MethodsSoxhlet extraction method was employed for extraction process by using varying polarity solvents like hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol. Phytochemical analysis of methanol extract was determined by Fourier Transform-Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC–MS). Antimicrobial activity was evaluated by determining the MIC and MBC/MFC of each extract by broth dilution method. ResultsThe antimicrobial competence of each extract sample was evaluated against six pathogenic bacterial strains and three fungal strains. Methanolic extract of leaves and the ethyl acetate extract of roots of Verbascum thapsus exhibited significant zones of inhibition against all the tested microorganisms. The highest inhibition zone was observed against the bacterial strain Bacillus subtilis (24.1±0.18 mm) followed by Streptococcus pyogenes (22.9±0.64 mm) and the fungal strain Aspergillus niger (22.8±0.55 mm) at a concentration of 500 μg/ml. Methanolic leaf extract strongly inhibited the growth of tested microbial strains with MIC ranged from 15.625 to 125 μg/ml. The FTIR and GCMS analysis confirms the presence of bioactive compound, possessing broad range of therapeutic activities. ConclusionThis Presence of various important phytoconstituents and broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity points Verbascum thapsus as a promising source for the isolations of molecules responsible for antimicrobial activities.

Estimating Carbon Dioxide Emissions from Power Plant Water Vapor Plumes Using Satellite Imagery and Machine Learning

Combustion power plants emit carbon dioxide (CO2), which is a major contributor to climate change. Direct emissions measurement is cost-prohibitive globally, while reporting varies in detail, latency, and granularity. To fill this gap and greatly increase the number of power plants worldwide with independent emissions monitoring, we developed and applied machine learning (ML) models using power plant water vapor plumes as proxy signals to estimate electric power generation and CO2 emissions using Landsat 8, Sentinel-2, and PlanetScope imagery. Our ML models estimated power plant activity on each image snapshot, then an aggregation model predicted plant utilization over a 30-day period. Lastly, emission factors specific to region, fuel, and plant technology were used to convert the estimated electricity generation into CO2 emissions. Models were trained with reported hourly electricity generation data in the US, Europe, and Australia and were validated with additional generation and emissions data from the US, Europe, Australia, Türkiye, and India. All results with sufficiently large sample sizes indicate that our models outperformed the baseline approaches. In validating our model results against available generation and emissions reported data, we calculated the root mean square error as 1.75 TWh (236 plants across 17 countries over 4 years) and 2.18 Mt CO2 (207 plants across 17 countries over 4 years), respectively. Ultimately, we applied our ML method to plants that constitute 32% of global power plant CO2 emissions, as estimated by Climate TRACE, averaged over the period 2015–2022. This dataset is the most comprehensive independent and free-of-cost global power plant point-source emissions monitoring system currently known to the authors and is made freely available to the public to support global emissions reduction.

Medicinal Plants Used in Sri Lankan Traditional Medicine for Dengue Fever

Dengue fever, a mosquito-borne viral infectious disease caused by the dengue virus, is a significant global health concern, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. Despite preventive efforts, Sri Lanka faces recurring dengue outbreaks, with the Western province being the most affected. Current treatments primarily focus on supportive care, as specific antiviral therapies remain elusive. This review presents an overview of dengue, its clinical presentations, the dengue burden in Sri Lanka, and the potential of Sri Lankan medicinal plants used in traditional medicine for treating dengue. Several plants, such as Munronia pinnata, Azardirachta indica, Cissampelos pareira L., Carica papaya, Zingiber officinale, Curcuma longa, and Bambusa vulgaris, show antiviral properties against dengue. The utilization of these medicinal plants in dengue treatment could offer a promising avenue for further research and drug development.

Bioinformatics database and production layout visual analysis platform of medicinal plants:a case study of Dao-di medicinal materials in Sichuan province

In the new stage of trans-omics and trans-subjects for medicinal plants, it is an urgent need to integrate big data, provide interactive applications, and form a unified and multi-level research system and big data platform. Dao-di medicinal material, as an important source of medicinal plants, is a unique quality concept and comprehensive standard of tranditional Chinese medicine(TCM). Several databases have been developed in China and abroad, such as the Encyclopedia of Traditional Chinese Medicine(ETCM) and the Global Pharmacopoeia Genome Database(GPGD). Yet, most databases do not provide multi-dimensional data, including geographic data, phenotype data, compound data, and genetic data. Sichuan, known as the hometown of TCM therapies and the treasure trove of TCM, is the most representative region of medicinal plant diversity in China. According to the latest data of the fourth national survey of TCM resources, there are more than 8 000 TCM and 86 Dao-di medicinal materials in Sichuan province. Based on resource census data and relevant achievements, this study constructed the bioinformatics database of medicinal plants and the visual analysis platform of production layout by taking the Dao-di medicinal materials in Sichuan province as an example, covering geographic data, phenotype data, compound data, and genetic data. It effectively integrates multi-dimensional data of Dao-di medicinal materials and provides different levels of data interaction applications. The platform is the first large-scale multi-dimensional database and visual platform of Dao-di medicinal materials in Sichuan province, which serves as an essential resource for germplasm resources identification, decomposition of biosynthetic pathways, molecular breeding of varieties and provides medicinal plant resource information and data support for development and utilization of medicinal plants in China and abroad.

Interaction between root exudates of medicinal plants and rhizosphere microorganisms and its application in ecological planting of Chinese medicinal materials

The rhizosphere is an important place for material exchange between medicinal plants and soil. Root exudates are the medium of material and signal exchange between plants and soil and are the key factors in the regulation of rhizosphere microecology. Rhizosphere microorganisms are an important part of the rhizosphere microecology of medicinal plants, and the interaction between root exudates and rhizosphere microorganisms has an important influence on the growth and quality formation of medicinal plants. Rational utilization of the interaction between root exudates and rhizosphere microorganisms of medicinal plants is one of the important ways to ensure the healthy growth of medicinal plants and promote the development of ecological planting of Chinese medicinal materials. In the paper, the research status of root exudates and rhizosphere microorganisms of medicinal plants in recent years was summarized. The interaction mechanism between root exudates and rhizosphere microorganisms of medicinal plants, as well as the influence of rhizosphere microorganisms on the growth of medicinal plants, were analyzed. In addition, the advantages and promoting effects of intercropping ecological planting mode on rhizosphere microecology of medicinal plants and quality improvement of Chinese medicinal materials were explained, providing a good basis for the study of the interaction among medicinal plants, microorganisms, and soil. Furthermore, it could produce important theoretical and practical significance for the ecological planting and sustainable utilization of medicinal plants.

Introduction and Utilization of Plants in the Wild for Prospective Members of Mapala Batch XXVII Mapala Paksi Arga Padang Institute of Technology

Nature lover student (mapala) students who often carry out natural exploration activities. Mapala must have the ability to survive and recognize plants that are useful for food and medicine. The limited information that Mapala has about plants in the wild indicates that they need relevant and accountable sources to be able to survive in difficult times. One way to provide sources of information to students is through counseling. The methods used in carrying out this activity are lectures or counseling, discussions, demonstrations, and evaluations. Data collection techniques during counseling using questionnaires and interviews. The counseling activity was carried out at the Paksi Arga Nature Lovers Student Group, Padang Institute of Technology. The participants in this activity were attended by 15 nature-loving students at the Paksi Arga Institute of Technology and the organizers consisted of 4 lecturers and 2 students. The output results of the independent t-test show that the Sig value is <0.05, so there is a significant difference between mapala knowledge before and after counseling. Difference in percentage There is an increase in knowledge that plants that can be used for survival are as big as20,6%, edible plants for survival 27%, and plants that can be used as medicine 22,64%.

Removal of Cadmium from Public Smoking area Soil using indoor Plants and Electrical Grounding

Objectives : In this study, the absorption of heavy metals in the soil from smoking areas using indoor plants and electrical grounding was investigated to increase the utility of indoor plants for soil decontamination.Methods : Soil from plant pots in a smoking area was collected for the experimental plant pot preparations. Some of the prepared pots were connected to electrical ground via an electrode. Kidney beans (<i>Phaseolus vulgaris</i>) were seeded, and their growth were observed. After 30 days of the cultivation, TOC (Total Organic Carbon), and metagenomics profiles in the soil was analyzed. To estimate the behavior of the heavy metals in soil and plants, Cadmium concentrations in the samples were analyzed using ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry).Results and Discussion : The connection of the electrical ground to the plant pot induced the rapid growth of plant (48.2 ± 2.3% increase in stem growth), compare to the plant in the pot without the electrical ground. TOC analysis showed that the soil from the grounded pots showed the highest value, compared to the control soil (3.08 ± 1.22%), and the soil from the pot without ground connection (2.3 ± 0.1%). The ICP-MS analysis indicated that the plant body in the grounded pot had the highest cadmium concentration at 0.33 ± 0.018 μg/kg. Using the metagenomic analysis, biomineralization related bacterial species (<i>Nocardioides</i> sp., <i>Streptomyces</i> sp., <i>Sphingomonas</i> sp. etc.) were identified from the grounded soil sample. These results suggested that the indoor plant cultivation with the electrical ground connection as an electrical fertilizer enhances the cadmium absorption by plant, exudate secretion from the plant root, and bacterial flora change in the rhizosphere.Conclusion Cadmium in the soil from the smoking area was absorbed by indoor plant with the electrical ground. Therefore, the application of the electrical ground connection (earth) to the electrically insulated outdoor plant pots might enhance the plant growth rate and physiological activity. This application could be a novel soil decontamination method using plants.

Study on Medicinal Forest Plants in Ifo, Ogun State, Nigeria, and Factors Shaping Usage Patterns

The utilization of medicinal plants in Nigeria is not solely associated with availability and accessibility but also reflects cultural heritage and local knowledge regarding natural resources. This research addresses the pressing issue of the medicinal utilization of selected forest plants in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria. Commencing with a succinct presentation of the identified problem, the study aims to explore solutions to formulated research questions and test hypotheses at a significance level of 0.05 alpha. Employing a descriptive survey research design, the study involves one hundred respondents randomly selected from Ifo Local Government Area, including forest and herbal operators, civil servants, and farmers. Five communities, i.e., Alagbole, Lambe, Ibogun, Onihale, and Igbusi, were purposively sampled, with 20 randomly chosen respondents. Data collection utilized a self-structured questionnaire to gather pertinent responses on the variables central to the study. Analysis methods included simple percentages, tables, Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMCC), and independent Student's T-test statistics, applied to test hypotheses at a 0.05 significance level. The research findings highlight, among other insights, the frequent use of forest plant-derived herbs for treating or preventing various health issues in the study area. As a recommendation, the study suggests the need for effective legislation to regulate the harvesting and trade of medicinal plants.

SIMULASI PEMBUATAN SABUN CAIR EKSTRAK DAUN KEMANGI DAN BALSAM EUCALYPTUS OIL BAGI SISWA/I SMA/K DI KOTA BEKASI

Discourse on the utilization of medicinal plants, which have the potential to be made into liquid soap and balsam, is very much needed for SMA and SMK students as knowledge in doing entrepreneurship in developing pharmaceutical products. Therefore, community service activities (PKM) are needed to provide knowledge and skills regarding the manufacture of liquid soap from basil and balsam extracts from Eucalyptus oil. The purpose of this PKM activity is to provide knowledge, understanding, and skills regarding the procedures for making liquid soap from extracts of basil and balsam leaves from Eucalyptus oil. This PKM activity includes the planning stages, such as making socialization flyers, materials, and videos on making soap and balm from natural ingredients. The implementation stage of providing materials and simulations for SMA/K children in Bekasi City at the STIKes Mitra Keluarga Pharmaceuticals Laboratory, Bekasi. The Evaluation Stage is in the form of taking a response score on the use of liquid soap and balsam by the PKM participants. The results of this PKM showed that there were 26 SMA/SMK students in attendance in Bekasi City, with 84.61% of SMK students dominating the participants. The preferred product was Balsam Eucalyptus oil, especially in terms of aroma, texture, and warmth. This PKM concludes that participants have a new understanding of the use of basil leaves and Eucalyptus oil for making liquid soap and balsam. The product that the participants liked was balsam Eucalyptus oil compared to basil leaf extract liquid soap.

Utilization of Plants as Traditional Medicine by the People of Momiwaren Village, West Papua

Momiwaren Village is one of the villages close to the Momiwaren Protected Forest Area. In line with regional development and technological advances, knowledge of the use of plants as medicinal ingredients is starting to disappear. For this reason, it is necessary to conduct research on how many types of plants are still used by the community as medicinal ingredients. The method used in this research is a survey method with interview techniques. The results of this research show that the people of Momiwaren Village still use plants as medicinal ingredients. There are 30 species from 22 families used by the community. If we look at the conservation status of the plants used, the types of plants used are still included in the naturally available (LC/DD) category, but there is one type of plant that is threatened with extinction and requires further silvicultural action so that this plant can be cultivated and not extinct from nature.

ETHNOBOTANICAL STUDY OF MEDICINAL PLANTS BASED ON LOCAL KNOWLEDGE IN SEDAYU VILLAGE, JUMANTONO, KARANGANYAR

Medicinal plants are one of the important aspects of traditional medicine development. The utilization of medicinal plants is a very valuable local wisdom and a culture that needs to be investigated more thoroughly so that knowledge about it does not become extinct. The purpose of this study is to determine the plant species that were used, the parts of plants that were used, and how to process them. This research was conducted in May 2023 in Sedayu Village, Jumantono District, Karanganyar Regency. The informants of this research were the people of Sedayu Village. The method used was snowball sampling which focuses on the community of medicinal plant users. The collected data was descriptively qualitatively and quantitatively assessed. The results showed that there were 52 species of medicinal plants used by the Sedayu Village community including ginger, kencur, turmeric, red betel, and ciplukan. The most utilized part of medicinal plants was the leaves and the most common processing method was boiling and drinking. With this information, it can be a reference for the village government and the community regarding how important a type of plant as a medicine to be preserved.
