This research is entitled "The Concept of Library Spatial Planning Based on User Recreation at SMA N 1 Sungai Tarab". The library is an educational service unit under the auspices of the Department of Education. The library is a driving force for achieving the goals of National Education, Institutional Education, and learning objectives. Each education unit has a school library, especially schools with a accreditation. One of the functions of the library is recreation. Based on Article 3 of Law no. 43 of 2007, which means that the library functions as a means of education, research, conservation, information and entertainment. The operation of this library can be further developed in such a way that this hobby becomes one of the things that can increase the attractiveness and demand for proposals for library user services. Korelasi Layanan Internet dengan Akses Layanan Perpustakaan di Kalangan Mahasiswa dalam Membantu Manajemen Perpustakaan (Studi Kasus di Perpustakaan IAIN Kediri)

This study has a background to determine the correlation between internet services and library access services at IAIN Kediri, so that the results can be used to facilitate librarians in arranging the priority needs of library service users, especially students. This research uses quantitative research method by collecting data through a questionnaire distributed to 300 students. The result of the questionnaire is then analyzed to gain the correlation value to find relationships between variables followed by looking for regression values to determine the influence of one variable on another. To determine the value of validity and reliability, the Pearson Correlation Product Moment formula and Alpha-Cronbach formula are used. Based on the results of the data analysis technique using simple linear regression, between the independent (internet services) and the dependent variable (services in the library) has a correlation value (R2) of 25.5% which means that there is a positive correlation (interrelated between one variable and one variable). other). Briefly, it can be concluded that internet services have a correlation with access to library services and an important role in supporting student learning activities. Accordingly, librarians are strongly expected to carry out management especially in terms of library service facilities and infrastructure at IAIN Kediri.

Data migration, RFID integration and implementation of Koha: a case study of NIT Rourkela

The present case study discusses the implementation of Koha library management software at Biju Patnaik Central Library (BPCL) of the National Institute of Technology Rourkela. The paper describes the process of data migration from proprietary integrated library management software (ILMS) Libsys, implementation of Koha ILMS, integration of RFID devices, impact on existing library user services, and housekeeping operations. The study explores the issues with proprietary products such as vendor locking while migrating the data. The paper could be useful to libraries migrating from existing ILMS to open source solution Koha.

Chat communication in library user services

The chat communication is a new type of user distance service. The authors examine the technology applications in different organizations and libraries, in particular. Intelligent information systems are used for designing virtual assistants and chatbots. The authors emphasize that, as for today, the scientific classification for chatbots is lacking. They attempt to categorize virtual talkbots. They discuss iPavlov artificial intellect library. The most interesting Russian developments are Telegram chatbots of Russian State Library for Young Adults, Directorate of Cultural Centers of Moscow, and that of St. Petersburg State Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired. RNPLS&T has implemented jivo system of chat communication. The reasons for choosing this system and operation results are discussed. The authors conclude that chat communication meets the principles and improves efficiency of user services.

Evaluation of Library Usage and Attitudes of Residents and Fellows: Results of 2017 - 2019 Surveys

ABSTRACT The Cleveland Clinic Libraries wanted to evaluate what services are used by residents and fellows and their attitudes regarding library services. All exiting residents and fellows completed a voluntary survey regarding their usage of library services. The survey measured demographics of the respondents, their usage of library space, interlibrary loan services, training opportunities, and a wish list of services for future consideration. Over a three-year period (2017–2019), 823 of 1305 residents and fellows responded. The results showed interlibrary loan as the most used service, library space for study was second, and library staff assistance was third. The library study also shed light on the activity of residents and fellows who did not have a library account, but used library services.

Service Quality and User Satisfaction of Border Area Library Services

This study aims to determine the description of the quality of library services at the Regional Libraries in the border area of North Central Timor Regency and to determine the description of the satisfaction of library service users in the border areas in North Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. As for the variable service user satisfaction based on indicators 1) Quality of products / services; 2) Emotions; and 3) Cost or convenience provided. Data collection was carried out through observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The results showed that the description of the variable quality of library services in the border area of North Central Timor Regency was quite good through display evidence indicators (Tangibles); 2). Reliability (Reliability); 3) Responsiveness (Responsiveness); 4) Assurance; and Empathy (Emphaty). As for the description of service user satisfaction variables based on indicators 1) Quality of products / services; not satisfactory, it is accrued that they are still using the manual system in services at the District Library Office of the Border District. North Central Timor; as for other indicators 2) Emotion; and 3) The cost or convenience provided is sufficient or satisfactory.

EXTERNAL IMAGE OF THE МODERN LIBRARY AS A STRATEGIC TASK OF ITS MANAGEMENT

Introduction. In modern scientific research of the social communications in general and the library science in particular, the issues of forming the image of the modern library in accordance with the requirements of the today's life have recently become relevant. Purpose and methods. The purpose of the study is to consider the features and components of the external image of the modern library and develop recommendations for its improvement. The traditional set of general scientific principles (determinism, reflection, unity of opposites) and methods (formal-logical, conceptual and functional analysis, content analysis, synthesis, abstraction, etc.) are used to solve the research tasks. Results. The article elucidates the fundamental qualities of the library's image. The system of factors influencing the image of the modern library is determined. The components of the external image of the library are analyzed and recommendations for its improvement are highlighted. Conclusions. A positive image is the result of the effective activities, covering processes from the study of the public opinion, inquiries of the library service users, which should be based on the serious social research, to the implementation of these inquiries by influencing both employees and service consumers. It is impossible to separate from the previous image; it is necessary to provide its radically new interpretation. That is why the formation of the image of a modern library is appropriate to make on the basis of the clear positive components of the existing database with the addition of the new characteristics that meet modern realities that need to be rethought, interpreted within a new image concept.

How the Botswana International University of Science and Technology Library Engages its Stakeholders in Connecting Information Resources, Services, and Space

In the quest to develop more innovative customer-focused library services, the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) Library embarked on the development of robust initiatives that involved the engagement of various stakeholders. The emerging consultative and engaging trend is premised on the key values of facilitating access to information and demand-driven inclusive library services.
 The paper presents how the BIUST Library engages stakeholders in the development of multiple and flexible opportunities to access and use information. In doing so, it describes the recreation of internal library structures, space, and processes in a way that accommodates and demonstrates the categories and functional roles of different types of library stakeholders. The paper further points to how the stakeholders’ cultures and systems create a divide or imbalance in the access and usage of library services. The paper also argues for a need to define library stakeholders and develop engagement strategies that are entity and initiative specific.

Artificial intelligence tools and perspectives of university librarians: An overview

The main purpose of this paper is to assess and examine the possible application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in Pakistani academic libraries, particularly those areas of library technical and library user services where AI could be applied in the near future. A secondary purpose is to bring the library perspective on AI to the forefront of the scholarly world. This is a self-exploratory study, in which a qualitative approach interview has been conducted with 10 chief librarians/library heads (5 public + 5 private sectors) from universities regarding their views on the adoption of artificial intelligence tools in Pakistani academic libraries. Results are tabulated in a descriptive format. Librarians are aware of AI technologies. Services based on Natural Language Processing (NLP) are used in libraries, e.g. Google Assistant, Voice Searching, and Google Translate. Pattern recognition methods, such as text data mining, are also used to retrieve library material and conduct online searching. Big data is accessed via services such as cloud computing, OneDrive, and Google Drive. There is a very low level of awareness of robotics and chatbots. This study provides librarians with suggestions as to how AI tools could be used in libraries which either have yet to adopt AI technologies or wish to implement more advanced tools. Pakistani library schools could collaborate with computer science departments to establish AI Labs in the respective library and information science (LIS) departments/libraries. AI challenges funding and technological skills are the key problem to implement with AI in the University Libraries.

Meta-synthesis in Library & Information Science Research

The meta-synthesis method has received increased interest in social science research, but relatively few meta-synthesis studies have been conducted in the library and information science (LIS) field. The purpose of this study was to analyze 44 LIS-related meta-synthesis studies in terms of contribution, meta-synthesis methodology, and research topics. The results revealed that there are four types of contributions of meta-synthesis research: isolated findings, non-dynamic relationships, dynamic relationships, and models. Moreover, a variety of methods have been used to search, select, analyze, and synthesize the individual studies. Finally, although meta-synthesis studies have been conducted on some LIS topics (e.g., health informatics, library user services, and information management), it has been an undervalued method for other research topics. Recommendations are offered to encourage the use of this method and to guide researchers to conduct more rigorous meta-synthesis studies on LIS topics.

Participatory Potential of Civic Libraries: Two Estonian Cases

This article contributes to the contexts of audience and user studies via research into two cases of civic libraries created by local communities. Results from this study could encourage communities to create and/or step in to co-produce the local library services for their community. The findings of this research add an alternative view from library service users to established library services and may be helpful to local authorities in redesigning the public library service. Two cases were chosen to investigate the phenomenon of civic libraries: the library at Sänna Cultural Mansion in a small village in Southern Estonia and the library of the New World Society in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia.

Usage Pattern of Library Services in Degree College Libraries in Visakhapatnam District: A Survey

The present study deals with the user’s attitude towards the usage of library services in degree college libraries in Visakhapatnam District, Andhra Pradesh. The primary data collected through a questionnaire, distributed 1485 respondents and received only 1100 respondents, the response rate is 74%. The study mainly focuses on usage level of various library services available in sample degree colleges. The results showed that the students prefer to use book borrowing service heavily as compared to other library services. It is followed by reprographic service, reference service, internet services, selective dissemination of information service, and current awareness service at the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth ranks, respectively.

Self-Assessment of Private Autonomous Engineering College Libraries Statistics in Andhra Pradesh

This work examines the issues related to self-assess among the private autonomous engineering college library facilities and the staff strength of Andhra Pradesh, India. This paper tries to assess the particulars of college and availability of library facilities, infrastructures, e-resources, total library staff strength in these libraries based on a survey method. Libraries need professionally qualified as well as supporting staff to plan, direct and supervise various library operations, where professional and supporting staff performance is very important. Any library will develop their services based on the sufficient staff. To assess the library services will depend on the sufficient staff. The target population of the study consisted of librarians in these college libraries. The study is undertaken to survey the autonomous engineering college libraries present status and to assess the library facilities and infrastructure gaps among these college libraries and where the areas of shortage need to be found. Andhra Pradesh has a total 50 autonomous engineering colleges up to academic year 2018–19 as per UGC records. The 45 private autonomous engineering college libraries had been selected for my study. At first I collected these librarian names, cell phone numbers and e-mail ids. Closed form questionnaire was prepared and mailed to all the librarians. The questionnaire was belonging to various conventional favourable self-assessment procedures of libraries. Preliminary data were collected from 8 colleges on the appointment visit, 15 colleges sent by post, 18 colleges sent by e-mail and 4 colleges not replied any way. Total 41 colleges reacted. The college librarian's reply rate was 91%. This article pinpoints library user services gaps, library infrastructure gaps, ICT infrastructure gaps and shortfall of professional staff in these college libraries. The study suggests useful findings for these college libraries to make a development of library infrastructure, different user services, user facilities, ICT infrastructure and increase of professional staff. This will help the librarians to know their libraries about strengths and areas of improvements. Learning is a life-long activity to all the library staff. This paper tries to assist the library and professional development activities.

Intercultural Dialogue In The Context Library Interaction

The purpose of the article is to reveal the significance and features of intercultural dialogue in library interaction on the basis of foreign experience. The methodology of the research is based on the application of socio-cultural scientific approach in conjunction with socio-communicative, which allows to reveal and analyze the intercultural dialogue and peculiarities of its organization in the process of library interaction with readers - representatives of different cultures and among library specialists from different countries. The scientific novelty of the article is to broaden the concept of intercultural dialogue as an important process of library user services and the form of library interaction aimed at establishing a common understanding in the context of the development of cultural diversity. Conclusions. 1. The organization of intercultural dialogue as an important aspect of library professional interaction with users and colleagues and partners is sufficiently provided with official documents of the national and international levels. 2. Priority trends in the use of intercultural dialogue in the library sector are service of national minorities, migrants, refugees and users of libraries from other countries and library international cooperation. 3. In the development of the organization of intercultural dialogue in the process of servicing library users and involvement in the library services of broad segments of the polycultural population in foreign experience has become widespread: the creation of "humanistic" libraries, the organization of special services for migrants and refugees, the establishment of intercultural dialogue centers and linguistic divisions in libraries . 4. In the process of international library interaction, the importance of the use of intercultural dialogue is important when organizing and conducting international conferences and implementing joint international projects. 5. Interactive traditional and virtual forms are used to communicate between participants in the intercultural dialogue.

Evaluating Awareness and Usage of Library Services among Undergraduate Students of Silchar Medical College, Silchar, Assam

Information Literacy now-a -days plays a very important role in everyday life because it involves a combination of education, job related task social involvements and social cultural practice. Information literacy is important for individuals to reach their desired goal in any field. The present study has been undertaken with a view to promote information literacy among Special library users with Special reference to the Silchar Medical College, Silchar, Assam. The present work was carried out during March 2018 to July 2018. For that purpose, survey method has been adopted, which comprises of questionnaire, for knowing the opinion of the respondents in respect of Promoting Information literacy among the library users. The study result reveals that a few students were aware about the different sources of information and also the different search techniques. The study also reveals that the promotion of information literacy is required in many areas such as Library OPAC, Classification and cataloguing etc.

From Committees of RUSA: RUSA Adopts Statement on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

The American Library Association’s (ALA) fourth strategic direction—equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI)—is timely for many reasons given the current political environment in the United States and our country’s difficult history around issues of bias, discrimination, racism, and privilege. These issues have deeply impacted library users and library workers. The pursuit of this strategic initiative provides RUSA members with an opportunity for conversation about how considerations of diversity, equity, and inclusion impact reference and user services in libraries and how we can try to effect positive change. To frame the conversation, RUSA formed a working group to draft an aspirational statement of RUSA values pertaining to EDI in service to library users and RUSA members. The RUSA Board approved this statement at the 2018 Annual Conference in New Orleans, LA. Working group members were Robin Bradford, Alesia McManus, Amber Prentiss, and Chella Vaidyanathan.

 Lietuvių išeivijoje XIX a. pabaigoje – XX a. pradžioje augant dėmesiui švietimui, skatinant savišvietą ir skaitymą, didėjo dėmesys bibliotekoms. Jų būtinumas aptarinėtas išeivių spaudoje švietimo, savišvietos ir skaitymo klausimų kontekste, taip pat ir jų veiklai skirtose publikacijose. Nuo XIX a. paskutinio dešimtmečio pradžios ėmė rastis privačios ir visuomeninio pobūdžio išeivių bibliotekos, taip pat stengtasi, kad lietuvišką spaudą komplektuotų JAV miestų, kur gyveno nemažai lietuvių,viešosios bibliotekos. Nepaisant deklaruoto bibliotekų steigimo nesudėtingumo, išeivijos sąlygomis tai buvo sunkiai sprendžiama problema, todėl jas kuriant dalyvavo įvairios institucijos, matoma bibliotekų steigimo ir jų gyvybingumo užtikrinimo būdų paieška. Straipsnyje nagrinėjami šie klausimai, taip pat bibliotekų santykis su tuo metu besiplėtusia išeivių leidyba.

KUALITAS PELAYANAN BERPENGARUH TERHADAP KEPUASAN PENGUNJUNG PERPUSTAKAAN

Library is one of the information providers engaged in the management ofinformation and media services provider education. The library is still a relativelyinexpensive option to meet the needs of visitors. The purpose of this study is todeterminethe effect of service quality on customer satisfaction of service users IBA PalembangUniversity library.Quality of service is any activity carried out by the company in order to meetconsumer expectations. Services in this case is defined as a service or services deliveredby the owner of the service in the form of reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathyand tangibles in providing services for customer satisfaction. And the satisfaction of acondition that is on the show to consumers after using the service or the service.Sampling method in this research is Stratified Random Sampling but at themoment Accidental questionnaire method. The data used in this research is primary dataobtained from questionnaires distributed to 125 respondents.From the results of multiple linear regression test simultaneously demonstratedservice quality effect on visitor satisfaction with the significance of the library amountedto 599.699 less than 0.05. Partially, 10.30% reliability, responsiveness 18.22%, 14.77%assurance, empathy and tangibles 34.25% 18.46% effect on satisfaction, 96% visitorsatisfaction variation libraries can be explained by the variable quality of service whilethe remaining 4% is explained by other variables not analyzed in this study.Of the five variables, variables Empathy (X4) of 34.25% is the most dominantvariable affecting visitor satisfaction IBA University library service users. This provesthat the library is able to provide library services properly..
