Based on the discussion review, it can be concluded that the results of this study are that there are differences in perception between teachers and Principals regarding the frequency of bullying incidents. The majority of teachers stated that bullying rarely occurs, while Principals identified that bullying often occurs. This difference indicates the need for relevant reading materials to improve understanding of bullying, both for students and teachers. Teachers agree that anti-bullying reading materials are very important in helping students understand the negative impacts of bullying and instilling anti-violence values. This study suggests the development of anti-bullying reading materials that are interesting, easy to understand, and supported by images in order to increase students' awareness and interest in understanding the issue of bullying. In addition to the research findings, best practices in this study include the following: Development of Interesting and Relevant Reading Materials, Involvement of Teachers in the Anti-Bullying Literacy Process, Use of Reading Materials as Discussion Tools, Combination with Guidance and Counseling Programs, Collaboration Between Schools and Parents, and Developing special guidelines containing practical steps in handling bullying cases at school.

Characteristics of students’ task representation and its association with argumentative integrated writing performance

Task representation denotes students’ interpretation in which what a learning or assessment task required them to do. An argumentative integrated writing task which involves the use of reading materials as claims or evidences for composing an essay, makes the role of task representation more critical than others, as writers may be confused with whether their task is to focus on synthesizing the reading materials that they comprehend, or expressing their own views. With the aim of exploring the characteristics of task representation and its association with integrated writing, this study invited 474 secondary four students from Hong Kong to participate in think aloud writing protocol followed by stimulated recall interview (36 participants), and complete an integrated writing task and a questionnaire (438 participants). Three factors of the task representation were identified as source use, rhetorical purpose and text format, and significant positive correlations were found between the three factors and integrated writing performance. Theoretical and pedagogical implications are discussed.

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and their Impact on Academic Library Services: A Study of Some Selected Private University Libraries in Bangladesh

Purpose: The objective of this study is to find out the impact of massive open online courses (MOOCs) on academic library services by identifying the opportunities of adopting MOOCs as a library service. It also proposes a model how to employ MOOCs as a library service. Methodology: This study follows a questionnaire method to collect data from the private university librarians in Bangladesh. Out of the 108 private universities in Bangladesh, 75 universities were selected as respondents for the questionnaire survey. In total, 38 university librarians have responded to the survey. The response rate was 50.66%. Descriptive analysis was carried out to analyse the collected data. Findings: The findings of this study have revealed the current status of MOOCs as a library service. The majority of the librarians are aware of MOOCs, but they do not have connection with any specific MOOC platforms. The study also identified many opportunities for MOOCs in academic libraries, such as clearing copyright content and licensing, preservation of MOOC contents for users, and assisting with fair use of reading materials. Additionally, MOOCs offer opportunities for developing information literacy skills, fostering collaboration among academic institutions in building courses, providing motivational or library-related courses to users and library professionals, etc. Originality/Value: This is the first attempt to explore the status of MOOCs as a library service in the context of private university libraries in Bangladesh.

Based on the formulation of the problem in this study, how is the teacher's understanding of the experimental method, how is the use of media, how is the classroom atmosphere with the experimental method. This study aims to describe the knowledge of the teacher's understanding of the experimental method, to describe how to use the media, to describe the classroom atmosphere with the experimental method. This research is a library research which is conducted in a descriptive qualitative manner which is to facilitate researchers in collecting descriptive data in the form of written/oral words from the teachers and students who were observed. One of the research literature (library research) retrieval of data or materials needed to complete the study came from the library, including books, dictionaries, journals, documents, magazines and so on. Criteria used to select reading materials that relevance (relevance). . Except for historical research, should avoid the use of reading materials that are already old and more recent selected sources. . Source that has long been possible to load the theories or concepts that are no longer valid, because kebenarnnya theory has more recent research results. The results of the teacher's research have maximally applied the experimental method to the properties of light, thus the teacher has implemented it according to the concept of knowledge about the experimental method. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the experimental method has been maximized so that the teacher can describe the properties of light SD.

Insights about Reading Competences of Students in Public Schools in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia

This article was aimed to investigate the insights about reading competences of students in public schools in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. In particular, it was aimed to explain what and how reading competences of students looked like especially when they were related to their learning achievements at school. The article employed a library-based research design as there was little chance to do a case study to gain in-depth analysis related to the issues being investigated due to time constraint. As this was a library- based research, the main data collection technique was based on evidences derived from extensive literatures related to reading competences of high school students in this province. The analysis was mainly based on the content analytical point of views. The findings suggest that a number of factors strongly affected high school students’ reading competences. Despite the case, it was identified that learning and reading cultures of Indonesian students predominantly influenced the ways they approached and made use of reading materials at their hands which eventually led to their reading achievements. The results of the research suggest that as students now live in the era of advanced communication and information technologies, provisions of these technological-based learning devices are inevitable in high schools. Moreover, the local education authorities urgently need to provide adequate reading text books and other interesting reading materials to students. In addition, it is to inform teachers and other educational stakeholders to create learning atmospheres in which students were interested in reading activities from which they could develop their reading cultures for the future

The use of reading material based contextual approach to improve environmental concern attitude of elementary school students

This research objective was to improve the environmental concern attitude of grade 4 students by using reading materials. This research is a classroom action research. The research was conducted in two cycles with each cycle consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subject of this study was the grade 4 students of SDN 5 Panjer which amounted to 24 students. The data sources used in this research were students, teachers, and observers. Data analysis using quantitative and qualitative techniques, including data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this research indicate that students environmental concern attitude improved from pre-cycles, cycle 1 and cycle 2. The results of this research indicate that students environmental concern attitude improved from pre-cycles 25%, cycle 1, 48% to cycles 2, 82%. In learning, the teacher uses a reading material based contextual approach with steps: (a) constructivism, (b) inquiry, (c) questioning, (d) learning community, (e) modeling, (f) reflection, (g) authentic assessment. The conclusion of this study is the use of reading materials based contextual approach can improve environmental concern attitude of grade 4 elementary school students.

Reading Material Based Gender and Cultural Familiarity and Its Implementation

The schemata theory in reading explains that in the process of comprehending a reading material, a pre-exsistent knowledge of the readers will be active when they read a piece of reading material in which it presents a familiar vocabulary, patterns, or contexts in which they fit into the readers’ pre-exsistent knowledge. As a result, readers can recognize what they read because it fits into patterns what they already known. This research was categorized as a type of research and development in which it developed a reading material on the basis of the readers’ interest and content familiarity which was constructed under the concept of schemata theory in reading. The research stages consisted of conducting praresearch, developing a prototype, validating the prototype, and applying the design to the research sample. The researchers took a class of X social science class in SMAN 1 Abung Semuli consisting of 32 students as the research sample to apply the prototype of this research development product. The data analysis shows that the use of reading material based gender and cultural familiarity gives significant influence on the students’ reading comprehension in which to the conclusion that the prototype of this research product is effective to be used as a reading material in a reading class.

Predictors of the Decision to Adopt Motivational Interviewing in Community Health Settings

The purpose of this study is to concurrently examine the impact of individual and organizational characteristics on the decision to adopt the evidence-based practice (EBP) motivational interviewing (MI) among directors and staff (n = 311) in community health organizations (n = 92). Results from hierarchical linear modeling indicated that, at the individual level, attitudes toward EBPs and race each predicted directors' decisions to adopt, while gender predicted staff's decisionmaking. At the organizational level, organizational climate was inversely associated with both staff's and directors' decisions to adopt MI. Organizational barriers to implementing EBPs and use of reading materials and treatment manuals were related to directors' decision to adopt. Type of organization and staff attributes were associated with staff's decision to adopt. These findings underscore the need to tailor dissemination and implementation strategies to address differences between directors and staff in the adoption of EBPs.

Applying the Bologna Principles in an Information Science Course

The paper deals with a pilot evaluation of comprehensive reading skills of 30 students studying information science at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Zagreb. After having read a freely chosen article from information science journals, the participants were interviewed using a questionnaire in written form. The answers were examined by researchers, classified and evaluated with the respect to the degree of the students' comprehension of the articles. It has been found that their understanding is incomplete, and therefore attention should be devoted to teaching an introductory course on how to make use of reading material in order to accomplish a fuller understanding of scientific articles.

Use of Reading Materials in Engineering College Libraries in Karnataka State, India: a Study

Library use study helps in understanding the pattern of use of reading materials and provides basis for developing need-based document collection and redesigning their services. Results of the study of use of reading materials by B.E. and M.Tech. students, and teachers, and opinion of librarians regarding the use of reading materials by students and teachers in 50 Engineering Colleges in Karnataka State, including three deemed universities are presented. Majority of students and teachers visit library at least once in a week and on an average, they spend less than two hours during each visit. Purpose of visit to library is mainly to borrow text books. Students and teachers vary in their approach to locate reading materials in the library. Students directly go to the shelves and search for reading materials, while teachers consult OPAC to locate required reading materials. Students are found to use informal channels like discussion with friends and teachers, while teachers depend more on books and journals to satisfy their information needs. While B.E. students use reading materials mainly to prepare for examination and seminars, M.Tech. students use them for completing their project work. Teachers use the reading materials in the library mainly for teaching, preparation of research articles and research project reports. Text books and Indian journals are the most frequently used documents in the library. All the users are satisfied with the text book collection and Indian journals in their libraries. A strong positive association is found in the opinion among students, teachers and librarians regarding the above aspects, except the adequacy of document collection where there is only a marginal association.

Audit expectation gap

Based on the studies by Schelluch and Best et al., this study aims to investigate the existence of an audit expectation gap in Malaysia. The main motivation comes from the lack of research on the issue since the Enron and Andersen debacles. Besides, the Malaysian accounting environment has significantly improved since the 1998s reform, with the passing of the Financial Reporting Act and the establishment of the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board. The results indicate wide expectation gaps and misconceptions about audit in Malaysia. An experiment conducted among investors revealed the effectiveness of the use of reading material to educate users and correcting some misconceptions.

Are fathers prepared to encourage their partners to breast feed? A study about fathers' knowledge of breast feeding

In order to study fathers' knowledge of breast feeding and its relationship with paternal factors, fathers of 92 breast feeding and 89 non-breast feeding newborns were compared. Paternal factors included previous children and the way they were fed, participation in prenatal care, attendance at prenatal classes, breast feeding information provided by health professionals, use of reading materials and interest in learning more about the subject. The results indicated that fathers had poor knowledge about breast feeding, especially those whose children were being bottle fed. After adjustments for confounders, fathers who had previous breast-fed child(ren), had attended prenatal classes and who received information about breast feeding from medical personnel had a significantly higher chance of having a better knowledge of breast feeding. It seems that fathers need to be better prepared to assume their new role as breast feeding supporters. Prenatal care was shown to be a good opportunity to improve fathers' knowledge of breast feeding.

Helping minorities read better: Problems and promises

Abstract Students from ethnic and racial minorities are over‐represented in remedial reading programs. The authors advance the thesis that this over‐representation is based on cultural discontinuity between the home and school rather than on environmental or cognitive deficits. Reading instruction in non‐English languages is discussed, and the use of reading materials and methods based on the students’ cultural background is described. Three exemplary reading programs for minority students are described: The Los Lunas program for students from Pueblo Indian, Hispanic, and white cultures; the Kamehameha program for students from Native Hawaiian (Polynesian) culture; and the Rock Point program for students from the Nava‐jo Indian culture. Finally, a model of a responsive reading teacher is described who meets the needs of minority background students through locally appropriate reading materials.

Principal component analysis and medical English discourse: An investigation into genre analysis

This paper examines the variations of 17 grammatical variables (verb tenses, voice and form) within the communicative function of 51 medical English papers (case reports, editorials and research papers) and provides a framework of grammatico-rhetorical relationships that characterize the style of a given sub-genre. The frequency of occurrence of the variables is recorded and a principal component analysis carried out. The table of quantitative data is thus represented by a set of diagrams (in a three-dimensional space) which highlight the similarities and differences in grammatical forms among the observed objects. The first axis opposes the present and future tenses (associated with attitudinally marked papers, i.e. editorials) to the simple past and passive voice (associated with truly scientific papers, i.e. research papers and case reports). The second axis mainly marks a décalage in the use of modals in the the three sub-genres whereas the third one highlights the different communicative use of the gerund in the three text types. Finally, some pedagogical guidelines for the preparation and use of reading materials are provided.

N every possible avenue of research, bibliography plays an important part. It is not only the cornerstone, the beginning of all research, but in its final form becomes an integral part of the paper or report, giving the work authority and showing evidence of purposeful thinking and reading. The compilation of a bibliography is often a bugbear, an irksome and tedious task for many a nurse, graduate or student, when faced with the inevitable term paper or report. It can be and is a joyous pursuit once the simple rules of the game are learned. The methods suggested in this paper are elementary and basic, pointing the way to further study which will yield rich dividends in efficiency in the use of reading materials and, in time, in a more intimate knowledge of the library and its resources, and a closer friendship with books. The first recorded meaning of bibliography-the writing, transcribing, or copying of books-appeared in Blount's Dictionary in 1656. This meaning persisted down to the middle of the eighteenth century, when we find bibliography meaning the writing about books, especially rare and interesting books. From this definition has evolved our present-day meaning -any list of books or other information by or about a certain author or about a particular subject. Before starting to hunt for material on the subject assigned, it is a good plan to closely define that subject. To define means to mark or determine the limits or ends. All kinds of alluring by-paths will present themselves, but, while they make pleasant wandering and yield a store of interesting information, they do not expedite the completion of the paper in the allotted time. This definition and delimita-
