NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS IN THE STATE SECURITY SYSTEM

The purpose of the article was to analyze non-governmental organizations and present their role in the state security system. According to the adopted goal, the main research problem was formulated: How do non-governmental organizations affect the functioning and security of the state? The following hypothesis was adopted: non-governmental organizations, through their activities and activity, influence the level of state security and its smooth functioning. Obtaining an answer to the above question required the use of qualitative methods including a critical analysis of legal acts and selected items of literature on the subject. The article takes a closer look at what a non-governmental organization is and its importance in the state security system in the third sector of its security. Answering the question posed by the authors, the study presents an analysis of the activities of non-governmental organizations, and points out their role in the state security system. The study used qualitative methods, and the content analysis of documents and literature on the subject served as a source of information. In the first part of the article, the authors characterize the security system of the Polish state. Then they describe the legal forms of NGO activity. In the main part, the authors focus on the areas of NGO activity in the sphere of state security. In conclusion, they point out that internal security is one of the of the basic existential needs that are associated with the existence of a specific entity, and point out the important role played by NGOs in the functioning of the state. as well as ensuring the security of its citizens

UNSUR POLITIK DAN PENTADBIRAN DALAM PESTA ‘MAGAHAU’ ETNIK MOMOGUN RUNGUS DI SABAH, MALAYSIA

Magahau is the main festival of the Momogun Rungus ethnic group in Sabah and is celebrated every year or every few years. This festival began to be celebrated on a large scale in 2009 as an extension of the Matunggong Customary Law Convention (2009), organised by the Matunggong Subdistrict Native Court which stipulates that the festival be held every year or every few years. The convention attended by practitioners of Rungus Customary Law from all over Kudat District, Matunggong Sub-District, Kota Marudu District and Pitas District which are districts with large Rungus population who aware that in the past, Magahau was usually celebrated by several villages or at least one village or several families. This made the delegates to decide that Magahau is a festival that is considered significance by the Momogun Rungus ethnic group. As a main festival, Magahau is also considered as a festival that highlights political and administrative elements that are not appreciated by various parties. Accordingly, based on the use of qualitative methods for the collection of related information, this paper highlights the political and administrative elements in the Magahau festival held annually by the Momogun Rungus ethnic group in Sabah.

On the pursuitworthiness of qualitative methods in empirical philosophy of science

While the pursuitworthiness of philosophical ideas has changed over time, philosophical practice and methodology have not kept pace. The worthiness of a philosophical pursuit includes not only the ideas and objectives one pursues but also the methods with which one pursues them. In this paper, we articulate how empirical approaches benefit philosophy of science, particularly advocating for the use of qualitative methods for understanding the social and normative aspects of scientific inquiry. After situating qualitative methods within empirical philosophy of science, we discuss how to adapt these traditionally sociological methods to empirically inform philosophical questions. Our aim is to normalize and legitimize qualitative methods for philosophical purposes and discuss how they can elucidate descriptive and normative components of scientific practice in a more generalizable non-idealized manner. We contend that qualitative methods are particularly well suited to philosophical interest in the social norms of science, their achievability, and their mutability. Furthermore, unlike more historical case studies in philosophy, qualitative methods enable more confidence in generalizability, albeit limited, from a concrete sample to a larger class. We conclude by addressing anxieties about the distinctness of empirical philosophy of science from social epistemology and from sociology of science.

Principal Management in Improving School Achievement at SMP Darul Hikam Bandung. The purpose of this study is to get an overview of school principal management in terms of planning, organizing, implementing and supervising. Research Methods with a qualitative approach that focuses on in-depth observation. Therefore, the use of qualitative methods in research can produce a comprehensive study of phenomena to be applied in school achievement. Data collection techniques through interviews, observation and documentation studies. The results of the research in terms of planning school programs are carried out jointly with representatives and teachers. In practice, it has shown that there is a large increase in the application of good principal management to increasing school achievement. Supervision and evaluation have been carried out by the school principal as an improvement to the program of activities in increasing the next school's performance.

PENINGKATAN HASIL BELAJAR MATERI TEKS NONFIKSI MELALUI MEDIA PEMBELAJARAN PAPAN PINTAR PADA SISWA KELAS V SDN BLURU KIDUL 2 SIDOARJO

This study aims to develop a learning media, namely a smart board. This learning media is highly recommended to be implemented in both low and high grades of elementary schools. This study applies qualitative research since it focuses on in-depth observation. Therefore, the use of qualitative methods in research can produce a more comprehensive study of a phenomenon. Data collection techniques used are interviews, tests, and observations. The validation results obtained were 96.15% which means that the smart board learning media can be applied. Based on the results of the data that have been obtained, it can be concluded that the knowledge or cognitive abilities of fifth grade students at SDN Bluru Kidul 2 Sidoarjo increased with the application of smart board learning media. In other words, the actions carried out in the study were said to be successful without any further action

Implicancia de la fenomenología social y el paradigma socio-crítico en la investigación de la educación universitaria

En este estudio se analiza la implicancia de la fenomenología social y el paradigma socio-crítico en la investigación de la educación universitaria, desde una perspectiva cualitativa y documental. Se utiliza el método hermenéutico-dialéctico para interpretar los textos desde su contexto histórico-cultural y desde su relación con otros textos. Se muestra que la fenomenología social y el paradigma socio-crítico comparten una visión constructivista e interpretativa de la realidad social y educativa, que reconoce la diversidad, complejidad y dinamismo de los fenómenos que se investigan; ambas corrientes rechazan el positivismo y el empirismo como formas de conocimiento válidas para abordar la realidad social y educativa, y proponen una aproximación comprensiva y crítica que tenga en cuenta los contextos, las situaciones y las experiencias de los sujetos. Asimismo, la fenomenología social y el paradigma socio-crítico coinciden en el uso de métodos cualitativos para recoger, analizar e interpretar los datos de la investigación, empleando técnicas como la observación participante, las entrevistas en profundidad, los grupos de discusión, los relatos de vida, los análisis documentales, entre otras. Estas técnicas permiten acceder a las percepciones, opiniones, actitudes, valores, creencias y emociones de los sujetos que intervienen en la educación universitaria, así como a las estructuras, procesos y prácticas que configuran dicha realidad. Finalmente, la fenomenología social y el paradigma socio-crítico tienen una finalidad transformadora y emancipadora del conocimiento, que busca no solo describir y comprender la realidad educativa, sino también transformarla y emanciparla. El estudio aporta al conocimiento teórico, metodológico y práctico.

GENTRIFICATION PATTERNS, TRENDS AND DEVELOPMENT IMPLICATIONS OF THE BAMENDA METROPOLIS FROM 1972-2022

Rapid socio-economic changes are an issue of pressing concern for many urban residents and local governments in urban areas of third world cities. This arises as a result of changing urban lifestyles, technology and population increase. This paper describes how gentrification patterns and trends manifest socio-economically across the metropolis of Bamenda. The study employs the survey, historical and comparative research designs, making use of qualitative methods using SPSS version 20 and Microsoft Excel 2016 version to analyze and verify the stated hypothesis. Findings reveal that neighbourhood revitalization within the high-density residential zones predominantly take the form of rehabilitation (renovation and refurbishment) of decrepit housing and socio-economic facilities, while the low-density residential zones are transformed mostly through newly built-up structures. The study concludes that significant differences prevail in the gentrification patterns across the metropolis, which are not monitored, non-harmonious and unsustainable to uphold the aesthetics of the metropolis. Suggestions verge on the premise that the patterns be monitored and sustainably guided by the city planners to harmonize urban development in the metropolis.

The article proposes a new subjectively attractive qualitative method of countering and preventing social dependency, based on the theoretical construct “adaptive intelligence”. Social dependency is considered as a negative adaptation to the rapid transformational social processes. It is a consequence of the concept of the welfare state, which currently needs to be revised. The phenomenology is outlined and typical practices of domestic social dependency are highlighted. Social dependency appears as a conscious social behavior, a life attitude, a desire to live at someone else's expense, without achieving socially significant goals. The socio-economic and psychological consequences of social dependency and parasitism are described. In the course of the study, it was possible to identify the meanings with which the state fills the social security system, they develop from dependence to individual social partnership. The low efficiency and limited range of solved tasks of quantitative methods of reduction of social dependency in the long term are substantiated. The relevance of the use of qualitative methods of targeted social assistance and the activation of citizens' independence is shown. A new direction in qualitative methods is proposed - “adaptive intelligence”, focused on the survival of society as a whole. Adaptive intelligence is considered as a mental resource used by a person for successful adaptation and coping with life difficulties. The structure of adaptive intelligence contains three types of intelligence: creative intelligence (characterized by the presence of new, convincing ideas); analytical intelligence (logical validity and consistency of ideas); practical intelligence (implementation of ideas in practice, convincing others of their usefulness, wisdom as the achievement of the common good through these ideas). The article describes the organization of social work on the issue of social dependency, which includes several synergetic approaches: statistical, theoretical, state-legal, socio-economic, value-educational and instrumental-competence.

Penerapan Tata Kelola Lingkungan dalam Pengelolaan Ruang Terbuka Hijau (RTH) di Kabupaten Ponorogo

Public awareness arises by building green open spaces (RTH) which are used as facilities to improve environmental quality. Effective environmental governance involves awareness, empowerment, coordination and enforcement between government, communities and the private sector. In this study researchers used qualitative methods. The use of qualitative methods is used to understand the phenomena that occur in research. By using qualitative methods, we can explore data in depth so that data collection and data analysis produce accurate data for drawing conclusions. This qualitative case study aims to explore the workings of environmental governance in the management of green open spaces. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of the environmental governance in this study is in the management of green open spaces in Ponorogo seen from the theory of awareness, empowerment, coordination and enforcement which expands on the theory from previous studies. The management of green open space which involves many public actors, namely the government, non-governmental organizations, the private sector and the community will certainly assist the local government in managing it. In this case the effectiveness of environmental governance in the efforts of the Ponorogo Regency Government has been implemented well because it has given awareness to the community of green open spaces provided and the public cares about green open spaces as lungs that can be preserved.

This research uses naturalism or natural paradigm. This research does occur naturally, in normal situations that are not manipulated by circumstances and conditions. The research approach used in this research is qualitative. The use of qualitative methods is done because this method is easier to adjust when dealing with multiple realities, besides that this method also presents directly the nature of the relationship between researchers and informants

Testing management scenarios for the North Sea ecosystem using qualitative and quantitative models

Abstract The complexities of ecosystem-based management require stepwise approaches, ideally involving stakeholders, to scope key processes, pressures, and impact in relation to sustainability and management objectives. Use of qualitative methods like Fuzzy Cognitive Mapping (FCM) with a lower skill and data threshold than traditional quantitative models afford opportunity for even untrained stakeholders to evaluate the present and future status of the marine ecosystems under varying impacts. Here, we present the results applying FCM models for subregions of the North Sea. Models for the southern North Sea, Skagerrak, Kattegat, and the Norwegian Trench were developed with varying level of stakeholder involvement. Future scenarios of increased and decreased fishing, and increased seal biomass in the Kattegat, were compared with similar scenarios run on two quantitative ecosystem model. Correspondence in response by the models to the same scenarios was lowest in the southern North Sea, which had the simplest FCM model, and highest in Norwegian Trench. The results show the potential of combining FCM and quantitative modelling approaches in integrated ecosystem assessments (IEAs) and in future ecosystem-based management advice, but to facilitate such comparisons and allow them to complement and enhance our IEAs, it is important that their components are aligned and comparable.

Increasing Return and Russian Innovation System

For the development of the national innovation system, it is necessary to meet three fundamental conditions: economic and political stability, entrepreneurial initiative, and increasing returns. The article examines what problems in the Russian innovation system are associated with mechanisms of increasing returns. An increasing return in this paper is a class of social (economic) interactions with positive feedback that allow you to benefit from the expansion of the scale of activity. The modern world of increasing returns is connected not onlywith the development of technologies but also with institutions and regulatory mechanisms. The article develops the narrative economics’ approach to analysing the Russian innovationsystem and the mechanisms of increasing returns. Narratives contained in 27 in-depth interviewsof representatives of the academic sphere related to innovation activities are used as data sources. The research highlights the main problems of the Russian innovation system related to the mechanisms of increasing returns. Among such issues, the author identified: a violation of consistency in the interactions of various elements and actors of innovation, weak demand for innovation from business, underdevelopment of physical and institutional infrastructure for innovation, failures in the development and implementation of public policy in the field of innovation, problems with attracting financing for innovative development andtheir implementation, lack of qualified personnel and failures in the system of their reproduction.The use of qualitative methods makes it possible not only to identify relevant problems of the Russian innovation system for actors but also to take a step towards developing a more comprehensive understanding of the state of functions and dysfunctions of existing regulatory mechanisms and institutions.

A Qualitative Perspective on the Status of the Master's Thesis in Higher education - A Commentary on 'Social Normativity of Research Methods and the Methodological Discrepancy Between Mainstream Psychological Research and Danish Psychology Students' Master's Thesis Projects'.

In this paper, the findings and conclusions from a previous study concerning Danish psychology students' Master thesis projects are discussed. By conducting eight qualitative semi-structured interviews with nine psychology students, shortly after they had handed in their Master's theses, we attempted to uncover and challenge some of our previous findings. We set out to deepen our previous conclusions concerning (1) why there is a seeming discrepancy between the use of certain methods and theories amongst the students and psychology as a discipline writ large, (2) whether their use of qualitative methods indicated a routine-like relationship to methods, and (3) whether a unification of methods and theories can be identified. Based on the interviews conducted for this commentary, we conclude that the students do indeed take an active stance when it comes to choosing their methods and topics, and that they are fully aware of the discrepancy between their interests and psychology as a discipline.

SITUATIONAL AND MOTIVATION FACTORS AFFECTING WILLINGNESS TO COMMUNICATE AMONG ESL STUDENTS

Having a sense of willingness to communicate in the 2nd language (L2) is one of the important factors in improving L2 speaking skills. Willingness to Communicate (WTC) a model proposed by MacIntyre et. al (1998) is considered an indicator for successful English learning outcome. There are several factors that influences students’ WTC in English. Hence, the objective of this study is to look into the individual factors that influences pre-university students WTC in English in an ESL digital classroom setting. The result of the study was obtained through the use of qualitative method using a focused group interview of 25 voluntary pre-university students in a public university in Sabah, Malaysia. The data obtained revealed that individual factors which are self-confidence, language anxiety, motivation and grit play a role in influencing pre-university students’ WTC in English. This finding would be beneficial to language instructors as well as syllabus makers in providing and designing an English lesson that is geared to encouraging students to communicate in English.

ACTIVE LEARNING IN THE TEACHING OF QUALITATIVE RESEARCH: APPLICATION PROPOSAL

Objective: To propose an active learning methodology for teaching qualitative research in graduate school. Method: The paper is structured in two parts. The first is dedicated to theoretical-conceptual aspects, starting with the contextualization of the importance and challenges of researcher training, especially for the use of qualitative methods. This is followed by brief overview of the teaching of qualitative methodology, supported by a survey with coordinators and teachers of graduate programs in Administration and Psychology. Then the concepts of active learning methodologies are addressed, especially those based on experiential learning. The second part is dedicated to the presentation and discussion of a practical example that illustrates each of the steps of the methodological decision-making process to be observed in the qualitative research teaching-learning process at the graduate level. Conclusions: The main contribution of the paper is to offer an experiential teaching-learning model of the qualitative research methodology for graduate education. It closes by pointing out the limits and advantages of the methodological proposal.

Methodology to derive preference for health screening programmes using discrete choice experiments: a scoping review

BackgroundWhile involving users in healthcare decision-making has become increasingly common and important, there is a lack of knowledge about how to best design community-based health screening programs. Reviews of methods that incorporate discrete choice experiments (DCEs) are scarce, particularly for non-cancer illnesses like cardiovascular disease, diabetes and liver disease. We provide an overview of currently available applications and methods available by using DCEs in health screening programs, for chronic conditions.MethodsA scoping review was undertaken, where four electronic databases were searched for key terms to identify eligible DCE studies related to community health screening. We included studies that met a pre-determined criteria, including being published between 2011 and 2021, in English and reported findings on human participants. Data were systematically extracted, tabulated, and summarised in a narrative review.ResultsA total of 27 studies that used a DCE to elicit preferences for cancer (n = 26) and cardiovascular disease screening (n = 1) programmes were included in the final analysis. All studies were assessed for quality, against a list of 13 criteria, with the median score being 9/13 (range 5–12). Across the 27 studies, the majority (80%) had the same overall scores. Two-thirds of included studies reported a sample size calculation, approximately half (13/27) administered the survey completely online and over 75% used the general public as the participating population.Conclusion Our review has led to highlighting several areas of current practice that can be improved, particularly greater use of sample size calculations, increased use of qualitative methods, better explanation of the chosen experimental design including how choice sets are generated, and methods for analysis.

Healthcare provider and patient perspectives on access to and management of atrial fibrillation in the Northern Province, Sri Lanka: a rapid evaluation of barriers and facilitators to care

BackgroundAtrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia that affects 60 million people worldwide. Limited evidence on AF management exists from low- and middle-income countries and none from Sri Lanka. We aimed to investigate the existing AF care pathway and patients’ perception on AF management to identify barriers and enablers for optimal AF care in Northern Province, Sri Lanka.MethodsA rapid evaluation was undertaken with use of qualitative methods. Local healthcare providers (HCPs) mapped the intended pathway of care for AF patients which was then explored and annotated through 12 iterative sessions with additional HCPs. Topics of inefficiencies identified from the finalised map were used to guide focus group discussions (FGDs) with AF patients. AF patients who were attending the anticoagulation clinic at the only tertiary hospital in Northern Province were recruited and invited to participate using purposive sampling. The topic guide was developed in collaboration with local clinicians and qualitative experts. FGDs were conducted in the native Tamil language and all sessions were recorded, transcribed verbatim and thematically analysed using a deductive approach.ResultsThe mapped pathway revealed inefficiencies in referral, diagnosis and ongoing management. These were explored through three FGDs conducted with 25 AF patients aged 25 to 70 years. Two key themes that contributed to and resulted in delays in accessing care and ongoing management were health seeking behaviours and atomistic healthcare structures. Four cross-cutting sub-themes identified were decision making, paternalistic approach to care, cost impacts and lifestyle impacts. These are discussed across 10 unique categories with consideration of the local context.ConclusionsStrengthening primary healthcare services, improving public health literacy regarding AF and building patient autonomy whilst understanding the importance of their daily life and family involvement may be advantageous in tackling the inefficiencies in the current AF care pathway in Sri Lanka.

The purpose of this study was to determine the state of religious values ??in early childhood in Nabila Nagrak Kindergarten, Skabumi Province, to plan the development of learning strategies to teach religious values ??to early childhood, and to teach religious values. hindering the development of learning strategies and internal evaluation, the success rate of developing learning strategies in teaching religious values, and developing learning strategies in teaching religious values. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach that aims to explain situations and phenomena by adapting the data analysis used to analyze the findings with the existing data is descriptive, but not numbers, but data collected in the form of words and photos. This is due to the use of qualitative methods. In addition, all that is collected can be the key to research. Learning Development at Nabila Nagrak Kindergarten seeks to make students' basic provisions to love the Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet SAW and become readings and life guidelines. Therefore, the syllabus used is a combination of the Kemendikbud syllabus, the TPQ syllabus and a uniquely designed syllabus sourced from the Qur'an and hadith. An example of a self-designed curriculum here is that TK Naviranagrac has developed a special curriculum for preschool children (school age children).

Peningkatan Pemahaman Mahasiswa Jurusan Akuntansi Syariah tentang Teknik Penentuan Informan untuk Riset Akuntansi Budaya

Abstract: Purpose: This training aims to improve understanding and implementation of the use of qualitative methods focused on discussing informant determination techniques for cultural accounting research. Method: The presenters divided the training method into three parts; first, an explanation of the technique of determining informants; second, an illustration of the technique of determining informants in the type of qualitative research; third, training in informant determination techniques in the type of qualitative research for cultural accounting research. Results: The results of the first stage of the evaluation find that 10 out of 25 students majoring in Islamic accounting are interested in raising the theme of cultural accounting research; the second stage of evaluation, shows that the participants have understood the concept of informant selection techniques; the third stage evaluation resulted in participants having been able to implement the concept of informant selection techniques in the design of cultural accounting research. Conclusions: The results of the training showed that there was an increase in participants' understanding of the determination of informant techniques for cultural accounting research.
