Quantifying Tennis Player Performance: A Linear Regression Approach

This paper uses linear regression to quantitatively analyse the performance of players in the men's singles competition at Wimbledon 2023. Firstly, the data is processed by observationally analysing the match data to ensure compliance with the tournament standards and regulations. Next, key metrics were extracted, including short-term and long-term metrics, as well as the introduction of Serve Indicator to consider the impact of serve advantage on player performance. Then, the most important independent variables were identified through Random Forest feature analysis and parameters were calculated using least squares to construct performance indicators for use in linear regression. Finally, through data visualisation and analysis, it was found that player 1 usually performs better at critical moments, showing greater stability and consistency, while player 2 shows greater variability and unpredictability. Overall, the linear regression method in this paper is valuable and practical for quantifying tennis players' performance, and can provide a reference for players and coaches to help them better analyse and improve their performance.

A Review of Gas Pumps Fault Behavior and Measurement, Diagnosis and Identification Methods Including Virtual Sensors

Almost half of all electrical pump capacity consume in three-phase induction motors and most of them use in gas pumps and compressor in processes of industries for heating, cooling, pumping, conveyors, etc. The most important role of fault detection and detection (FDD) for manufacturing equipment is an effective indicator that can identify the faulty state of a process and then take appropriate action against future failures or adverse events. The impact of proper maintenance is reflected on an especially costly type of industrial machine. To avoid reducing the efficiency of the gas station, automated fault detection and diagnostics is very important and need to study. This article aims to establish a criterion for selecting which faults can be tested under laboratory conditions or by simulation with a virtual model and to determine the features that identify those faults. This efficiency identify of faults leads to saving of energy, service and operating costs. Virtual sensors applied to gas pumps to reduce the cost associated with FDD implementation are described. Finally, several areas of improvement for the aspects reviewed have been identified: increase the use of performance indicators for FDD, new and updated studies about the health status of field heat pumps, testing methods that take into account the gradual and probabilistic nature of heat pump faults and further research in the use of virtual sensors in FDD systems.

Relations between the use of performance indicators and the role of individual companies in supply chain coordination process

This paper aims to investigate the relations between the use of performance indicators and the role of individual companies within supply chain coordination process. A survey among 36 individual agribusiness companies was undertaken taking the role of each company in the coordination process of its supply chain into consideration. Senior managers were asked to declare the role of each company in the coordination process of its supply chain as well as to indicate which performance indicators they used through a questionnaire which presented a list composed by 49 performance indicators divided into the four traditional perspectives. Fisher's exact test and a logit model were used to analyze the relations between the usage of performance indicators and the role played in supply chain coordination process. The statistically significant results from Fisher's exact test were relating to inventory, operational costs, operational cycle, information and integration of materials, and risk management. The results from the logit model point out that inventory, and operational costs presented significant predictability levels regarding to the identification of individual supply chain participants, while operational cycle, information and integration of materials, and risk management presented significant predictability levels relating to individual supply chain coordinators. The research carried out in this paper is based on responses provided by senior managers regarding managerial practices and the sample size is limited. However, the results presents a new perspective about the relevance of the role of individual companies within the coordination process of supply chain regarding to performance indicators from which further research may be conducted. The implications relating to management control arising from the findings suggests that metrics selection criteria within in the context of supply chain can be based on both individual motivations and objectives.

Performance Indicators in the Tourism Sector: Comparative Analysis of the Visegrad Group

Dynamic shifts in society accelerate the need to measure performance and use the data to identify promising areas for continuous improvement and eliminate potential risk factors. The process of measuring and analysing performance isn't anymore an essential task of strategic management only from the perspective of individual enterprises but also from the perspective of other subjects. Countries evaluate the performance of various sectors to track and record the economic benefits of industries and calculate shares of industries in the country's gross domestic product and other macroeconomic results. Considering the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and digital transformation on global economics, the stakeholders understand the need to be aware of potential risks and opportunities in the future. Detailed measuring of industry performance is a driving force for identifying critical factors in economic systems and effective strategic planning. Countries should design and use the correct metrics and performance measurements to achieve desired outcomes. In the tourism sector, the most important performance indicators and results at the country level are presented as a part of Tourism Satellite Accounts. In this paper, we compare the current use of performance indicators in the tourism sector in Visegrad Group countries based on information from national statistical offices and other relevant sources. We investigate the processes of collecting data from economic subjects used to evaluate industry performance. The findings of this research confirm slight differences in using tourism performance indicators among analysed countries and tools used for obtaining required data. Although we identify several shortcomings in the existing conditions in Slovakia, we also formulate practical recommendations based on examples from other analysed countries to improve the current state of measuring industry performance. This paper contributes to a better understanding of the correct use and visual presentation of performance indicators. Our findings can also be applied in other countries to identify the possibilities of better monitoring for taking appropriate strategic actions and measuring the impact of activities to support tourism at the level of individual destinations or regions.

Efficiency and internationalization of mining and ­metallurgical groups of Ukraine

Purpose. Development of a structural and systemic approach to determining the effectiveness of the functioning and internationalization of the country’s mining and metallurgical industrial groups and the formation of their possible development vectors. Methodology. The results of the presented scientific research were obtained using general and special methods of cognition: abstract-logical analysis, systematization and combination, method of theoretical generalization, method of dialectical cognition, deduction and induction, statistical analysis, econometric method of trend formation. Findings. Approaches to the determination of performance indicators and the level of internationalization of mining and metallurgical industrial groups, which were dynamically formed in the modern conditions of the functioning of multinational companies, were systematized. Principles of calculation, system of indicators of efficiency and level of internationalization, which were chosen to evaluate the leading mining and metallurgical industrial groups of Ukraine, and methodical approaches to the calculation of performance indicators and evaluation of the level of internationalization were substantiated, and analytical conclusions were formulated. The forecast was made and the development vectors of the country’s leading mining and metallurgical industrial groups were established based on the econometric calculations. Originality. Structural and systemic approach was justified to measuring the efficiency of operation and the level of internationalization of mining and metallurgical industrial groups of Ukraine, which is built on the principle of hierarchy, includes logically consecutive stages and provides an opportunity to determine the actual development vectors of mining and metallurgical industrial groups of Ukraine based on the econometric trend. A close relationship was established (on the basis of the calculation of the coefficient of determination) of performance indicators and the level of internationalization of mining and metallurgical industrial groups of Ukraine with the time factor. At the specification stage, trends (parabolic, logarithmic, hyperbolic, linear ones) were selected, their parameters were estimated by the method of least squares. The statistical significance of the equation was tested using the coefficient of determination and Fisher’s test. Practical value. It consists in the possibility of using the results of the conducted research for scientific developments and practical activities. The feasibility of systematic use of performance indicators and the level of internationalization in the practical activities of the leading mining and metallurgical industrial groups of Ukraine has been proven. The structural and systemic approach, which is built on the principle of hierarchy, provides an opportunity to determine the current development vectors of the leading mining and metallurgical industrial groups of Ukraine .

Reflecting on motivations: How reasons to publish affect research behaviour in astronomy.

Recent research in the field of reflexive metrics, which analyses the effects of the use of performance indicators on scientific conduct, has studied the emergence and consequences of evaluation gaps in science. The concept of evaluation gaps captures potential discrepancies between what researchers value about their research, in particular research quality, and what metrics measure. In the language of rational choice theory, an evaluation gap persists if motivational factors arising out of the internal component of an actor's situation are incongruent with those arising out of the external components. The aim of this research is therefore to study and compare autonomous and controlled motivations to become an astronomer, to do research in astronomy and to publish scientific papers. This study is based on a comprehensive quantitative survey of academic and non-academic astronomers worldwide with 3509 responses. By employing verified instruments to measure perceived publication pressure, distributive & procedural justice, overcommitment to work and observation of scientific misconduct, this paper also investigates how these different motivational factors affect research output and behaviour. I find evidence for an evaluation gap and that controlled motivational factors arising from evaluation procedures based on publication record drives up publication pressure, which, in turn, was found to increase the likelihood of perceived frequency of misbehaviour.

Analysis of the Degree of Use of Balanced Scorecard Metrics in Agro-industrial Companies Based on Strategic Goals

The objective of the article is to analyze the degree of use of performance indicators associated with the four perspectives of the Balanced Scorecard considering different strategic goals in the context of agro-industrial companies. Samples of rural companies located in the State of Pernambuco have been investigated considering the adoption of strategic goals associated with innovation, improvement and continuity, carrying out the use of 48 performance indicators, classified from four perspectives of the Balanced Scorecard. The data was collected through surveys structured from a questionnaire. Two different statistical techniques were used to analyze the results: descriptive statistics and the Kruskal-Wallis test. The results obtained demonstrate the identification of traits regarding the group of performance indicators that have obtained high percentages of use in the three strategic goals tested. It was observed that the companies that adopt strategic goals regarding continuity, presented declared standards of use that are lower than those presented by companies that adopt strategic innovation and improvement goals. No statistically significant discrepancies were found regarding the intensity of use of the indicators of the Balanced Scorecard perspectives when the joint analysis of internal balance considering each of the strategic goals.

Development of key performance indicators of capital market-oriented entities in the Prime Standard since the introduction of DRS 20

This paper examines the performance indicators of 168 Prime Standard entities since the introduction of DRS 20, focusing on the core question of how the use of performance indicators has changed over time. For this purpose, we compare the published key performance indicators from various companies in different years to point out existing differences. Furthermore, we examine which KPIs are changed most often and how frequently businesses adjust their performance indicators. The companies examined are differentiated according to size and sector.

DETERMINATION OF PRIORITY QUALITATIVE FACTORS OF STIMULATION OF THE WORK OF ENTERPRISE TOP MANAGERS

The article is devoted to substantiation of the main subjective qualitative factors which are typical for labor incentives of managers of the strategic level of enterprises management, and which it is reasonable to take into account while developing the system of economic incentives of their activity, since basing and determination of the incentives amount only on the statistical objective information is not able to influence significantly the final results of top-managers work. The purpose of the article is to identify priority qualitative factors of influence on the process of economic stimulation of the activity of top managers of industrial enterprises and their quantitative interpretation based on the combination of qualitative assessments into an integral indicator. The tasks of the article are the analysis of the results of the survey of top managers on individual qualitative factors of influence on their motivation, the definition of statistical relationships between factors, determining the explicit and latent trends in the dynamics of these factors, the calculation of the integral indicator of the impact of the identified significant factors, the formation of methodological support to identify priority qualitative factors of economic incentives performance of top managers of industrial enterprises. The object of the article is the process of economic stimulation of the results of activity of top managers of industrial enterprises. The subject of the article is the theoretical provisions, methodological support, and practical proposals for economic incentives for managers of the strategic level of administration at industrial enterprises. Methods. To achieve the goal, the article used the following basic general and special research methods: theoretical generalization, questionnaire survey, descriptive statistics tools, Spearman rank correlation coefficient, multivariate factor analysis, method for calculating the integral index of qualitative factors of managers' labor stimulation, graphical method. Results. The results of the study are: the scientific achievements of the predecessors on the formation and use of performance indicators of enterprises as indicators of incentives for top managers; surveyed top managers of industrial enterprises regarding their opinions on the main factors influencing the performance of their own activities; proved the relationship of influence factors on the incentives of top managers presented in the questionnaire; clear and latent tendencies of interrelation of factors of influence on productivity of managers of strategic level of the enterprises are revealed; the integrated indicator of qualitative factors of stimulation of work of managers is defined, quantitative values of which have proved existence of insufficient account of factors on process of stimulation. Conclusions. As a result of determining the relationship between the qualitative factors influencing the economic incentives of top managers developed methodological support, which differs: the content of qualitative factors; analysis of the structure of the studied set of arrangements of answers of experts using the tools of descriptive statistics; assessment of the closeness of the relationship between qualitative factors of economic incentives for top managers in the dynamics; assessment of the consistency of the answers of experts in the dynamics; identification of latent factors of economic stimulation of top managers; analytical method of developing an integrated quality indicator of economic stimulation for top managers.

The work is devoted to the evaluation of the use of performance indicators and the effectiveness of the implementation of the municipal program of the municipality of Tula "Accessible Environment" for the period 2017-2020. The purpose of the program is to create conditions for ensuring unhindered access of disabled people to municipal social infrastructure facilities in the field of education, culture, sports, physical culture and youth policy (in priority areas of disability) and overcoming social disunity in society. The objectives of the municipal program are to equip municipal social infrastructure facilities in priority areas of disabled people's life with devices and devices to ensure access for disabled people, as well as to provide conditions for the socialization and integration of disabled people into society. But, unfortunately, the financial support that is laid down in the municipal program does not sufficiently meet the needs of people with disabilities.

Quality management, performance measurement and indicators in higher education institutions: between burden, inspiration and innovation

ABSTRACT Performance indicators are increasingly used to measure the performance and quality of higher education. The purpose of this article is to discuss their role for reflecting on the challenges faced by high-participation higher education systems, regarding quality of student outcomes, equity of access, societal relevance and financial sustainability. Based on a review of existing international comparable metrics, policy and scholarly literature on higher education performance, the article discusses the strengths and weaknesses of current performance indicators and the perennial tension between the burden of accountability and the inspiration and innovation that may result from the developmental use of performance indicators for improvement. It concludes by summarising some observable results of performance and quality management and reflecting on some possible future trajectories.

Status assessment of buildings using existing data and identifying gaps in data from performance indicators

In past decades, several performance indicators have been developed allowing to objectively assess current status or predict failures of material, components and other factors like moisture safety. However, each performance indicator requires its unique sets of data, which are often difficult to obtain. It is therefore of interest whether a combination of several indicators is applicable in older buildings which often lack readily available documentation. The aim of this study is to identify data gaps preventing the use of indicators and to ascertain whether missing data can be filled by combining visual inspections and non-destructive testing. The first part of the paper summarizes known building envelope related indicators and arrange them into three groups: general, hygrothermal and service life performance indicators. The second part is a case study where the applicability of selected performance indicators is tested against an in-house database consisting information about 610 buildings in Gothenburg. It was found that the use of performance indicators is limited as the gaps in the available data are present for all types of performance indicators. The material composition of buildings envelope was identified as the most substantial gap. This limited the use of hygrothermal performance indicators in 58.5% of the buildings.

An analysis of the structure and content of dashboards used to monitor patient safety in the inpatient setting.

The objective of this study is to review and compare patient safety dashboards used by hospitals and identify similarities and differences in their design, format, and scope. We reviewed design features of electronic copies of patient safety dashboards from a representative sample of 10 hospitals. The results show great heterogeneity in the format, presentation, and scope of patient safety dashboards. Hospitals varied in their use of performance indicators (targets, trends, and benchmarks), style of color coding, and timeframe for the displayed metrics. The average number of metrics per dashboard display was 28, with a wide range from 7 to 84. Given the large variation in dashboard design, there is a need for future work to assess which approaches are associated with the best outcomes, and how specific elements contribute to usability, to help customize dashboards to meet the needs of different clinical, and operational stakeholders.

The presentations/physician ratio predicts door-to-physician time but not global length of stay in the emergency department: an Italian multicenter study during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.

To investigate the effects of the dramatic reduction in presentations to Italian Emergency Departments (EDs) on the main indicators of ED performance during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. From February to June 2020 we retrospectively measured the number of daily presentations normalized for the number of emergency physicians on duty (presentations/physician ratio), door-to-physician and door-to-final disposition (length-of-stay) times of seven EDs in the central area of Tuscany. Using the multivariate regression analysis we investigated the relationship between the aforesaid variables and patient-level (triage codes, age, admissions) or hospital-level factors (number of physician on duty, working surface area, academic vs. community hospital). We analyzed data from 105,271 patients. Over ten consecutive 14-day periods, the number of presentations dropped from 18,239 to 6132 (− 67%) and the proportion of patients visited in less than 60 min rose from 56 to 86%. The proportion of patients with a length-of-stay under 4 h decreased from 59 to 52%. The presentations/physician ratio was inversely related to the proportion of patients with a door-to-physician time under 60 min (slope − 2.91, 95% CI − 4.23 to − 1.59, R2 = 0.39). The proportion of patients with high-priority codes but not the presentations/physician ratio, was inversely related to the proportion of patients with a length-of-stay under 4 h (slope − 0.40, 95% CI − 0.24 to − 0.27, R2 = 0.36). The variability of door-to-physician time and global length-of-stay are predicted by different factors. For appropriate benchmarking among EDs, the use of performance indicators should consider specific, hospital-level and patient-level factors.

Responding to emerging needs: Development of adapted performance indicators for physiotherapy student assessment in telehealth

Clinical placements in 2020 have been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 global pandemic. Ensuring that effective clinical placement opportunities continue during this time remains the priority of the Clinical Education Managers Australia and New Zealand (CEMANZ). Supporting educators to assess student competency when service delivery models are altered to embrace telehealth services, has been integral to achieving this. Telehealth has been widely adopted to maintain services and contact with patients during the pandemic. Physiotherapy clinical educators voiced concern about the applicability of the Assessment of Physiotherapy Practice (APP) tool in this emerging learning environment and sought guidance from University Clinical Education Managers. This paper describes representative consensus across Universities regarding use of the Assessment of Physiotherapy Practice (APP) tool and the development of adapted APP performance indicators for use in telehealth. Clinical educators can use these adapted performance indicators to guide assessment of student competency for students completing placements in a telehealth setting.

Assessment of leakage management in small water supplies using performance indicators

The revision of the Drinking Water Directive (DWD), which the process of consultation by the European Parliament is coming to the end, includes a commitment for all Member States to assess the level of water leakage. The overarching aim of this action is to reduce water loss through leaks. In regard to this, use of performance indicators as suitable to enable assessment of water utility performance with regard to leakage reduction, including impacts on environment and cost-efficiency, is recommended. The paper provides results from water losses evaluation with the set of performance indicators (PI), considering dependence on the availability of resources and specific operating conditions. An analysis of different PI that are necessary to evaluate in most of leakage reduction methods was conducted considering step-by-step approach. Furthermore, the most relevant data for leakage analysis and management on a network level was determined. Presented PI can be used to improve leakage management of small water supply system. Similarly as in the Deming cycle, the described tool provides for planning activities, executing activities in accordance with the plan, checking the degree of execution of objectives included in the plan, and on the basis of conducted analyses and lessons learned, the so-called improvement. The results of the analysis lead to the conclusion that through a comprehensive, systematically improved strategy, the high effectiveness of the system could be reach. The reliable monitoring does not have to be based on advanced technological methods, which are often unavailable for small water supply system, due to high investment and operating costs. The results indicate that integrated IT systems, as SCADA, might not be directly beneficial to water loss management in small networks with moderate leakage levels.

Gestão do cooperativismo de crédito no Brasil: análise bibliométrica nas publicações na última década

This study aimed to verify what are the characteristics of publications on credit cooperatives in Brazil in the period from 2009 to 2018. To do so, it used bibliometric analysis as a method through the base of google academic scientific articles. The results showed that over the years the region with the most predominance in relation to the proposed theme was the southern region of the country. With regard to the content of the research, the results showed that the growth process of cooperativism in Brazil is gradual, solidifying over the years and factors such as the fundamentals of cooperativism, the use of performance indicators and risk analysis are variable fundamental to the efficiency of this segment in Brazil. The contribution of this study and research related to the management of cooperatives is on the rise in Brazil and the form of management using performance indicators and risk analysis are fundamental variables for achieving the efficiency of credit unions.

How do contingency factors influence the content of balanced scorecards? An empirical study of French intermediate-sized enterprises

PurposeNotwithstanding a number of studies that led to the development of different performance measurement systems incorporating contingency factors, very scarce research on the variety of balanced scorecards (BSCs) indicators used in performance management were carried out in France. Accordingly, the purpose of this paper is to investigate if there is a significant relationship between contingency factors and the content of balanced scorecards in terms of the degree of use and a variety of performance indicators.Design/methodology/approachIn total, 2,580 French intermediate-sized enterprises (ISE) were identified through the Diane Database (Bureau Van Dijck) then contacted by the means of a survey questionnaire that was built online using LimeSurvey software. This study receives 156 complete and usable responses. The research model was tested through multiple regressions and multi-group analyses.FindingsThe results show that ISEs financial managers do not use, to the same extent, all the indicators constituting the four dimensions of BSCs. Therefore, BSCs implemented by French ISEs can be described as “unbalanced”. Furthermore, three contingency factors (computerization, decentralization and market listing) were found to be significantly associated with the variety and degree of use of performance indicators in balanced scorecards. The remaining contingency and control factors did not seem to influence the degree of use and variety of BSCs content.Practical implicationsThe findings highlight the importance of developing tools that have the potential to evolve in line with organizational, environmental and technological changes. Furthermore, this paper provides food for thought for financial directors and management controllers as to how to better meet senior management, managers and operational staff information needs.Originality/valueWhile there is scarce academic work on BSCs in ISEs, the present research is, to the best of the knowledge, one of the rarest to apply and test a contingency approach on a sample of ISEs.

Capitalization of the Operating Experience of a Company for Sustainable Improvement: The Case of the ETRAG Foundry, Constantine, Algeria

Today, the adaptation to the effects of changing behavior and attitudes of Algerian companies has become a necessity. The current work aims to provide real-time information drawn from the field involvement with the use of performance indicators, in order to have a global vision of the general situation of the company. This allows for fulfilling functions such as awareness, guidance, decision support, and strategic planning. These indicators form a key data synthesis that affects all areas of the company's affairs. Based on these indicators, a manager could have a better view of the business. Consequently, he could act effectively to correct the errors that have been revealed or continue in increasing the company's development. This article describes the progress of management practices improvement in a foundry of the ETRAG company while relying on employee involvement. Through this work, the necessary preventive measures are established in the occupational environment ensuring the health and safety of employees. Thus, the well-being of the employees and the improvement of the working conditions can be assessed. The proposed work methodology consists of two components: the survey results obtained through a questionnaire in order to quantify the most exposed to risks and its intersection employees with the solutions proposed by the same employees. This approach aims at optimizing processes, instill a culture to the effects of changing attitudes and behaviors, to spread the culture of continuous and sustainable progress within a company, to ensure a good workplace atmosphere, and to have a respectful attitude towards employees.

MANAGERS PROFILE AND THEIR BUSINESS IN MICRO AND SMALL COMPANIES: A STUDY IN JOÃO PESSOA (PB)

Companies’ performance in complex and competitive markets has stimulated the search for new ways of structuring and measuring performance, so that it is possible to obtain a competitive advantage in the long run. Given this context, this study’s objective was to compare the use of performance indicators within different management structures in micro and small companies in the city of João Pessoa, in the state of Paraíba, which operate in the market as participants in franchises or individually. Aspects related to the company and the managers/owner-partners’ profile, competitiveness, comparison of the company with its competitors, comparison of the company with the previous year and the general performance are addressed. To this end, a questionnaire was applied to 43 companies. In order to compare the two types of management structures, we performed an analysis of absolute and relative frequencies. The survey results indicated that individual companies are performing “equal to the average”, and companies participating in franchises perform “much better than the average” when compared to their competitors and the previous year. The most relevant criteria in the performance analysis of the different management structures were customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, and profitability. The least important were social and environmental responsibility. The profile of managers or owner-partners is not very different, but competitiveness offer a more critical environment for individual companies.
