This article discusses the challenges of achieving and maintaining weight loss for individuals living with obesity. It highlights that obesity is a significant health concern worldwide, and effective and sustainable weight loss interventions are necessary. It also explores the potential of nutritional orientation during the postoperative period of orthognathic surgery, which is known to improve patients' quality of life and self-esteem, to enhance weight loss for patients who seek corrective jaw surgery and express a desire to lose weight. The article presents a case study of a patient who underwent corrective jaw surgery and started an effective weight loss program during the immediate postoperative period. The research objectives of the article are to verify similar cases where weight loss resulted in a significant improvement in self-esteem and to analyze related works that discuss orthognathic surgery's impact on aesthetics and function. The article emphasizes the importance of preoperative nutritional evaluation and patient education on alternative methods of nourishing and hydrating patients during the postoperative period to address nutritional deficiencies that may arise.
