THE USE OF INFORMATION COMMUNICATION AND TECHNOLOGY (ICT) IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING: A CASE STUDY AT ONE PUBLIC UNIVERSITY IN JAMBI

This research is aimed to describe students’ perception toward the use of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) in language learning. The objective of the study is to know students’ perception toward the use of ICT in language learning and to know the problem that they encountered during the use of ICT. The design of this research was survey method. The subject of this research was sixth semester students’ of English department Jambi University. A questionnaire was main instrument to gather the data. The questionnaire consists of items regarding the educational resources of respondents, their reasons for using ICT, the use of ICT in learning process and the problems that they encountered. The result of the study showed that ICT is useful for students. Using ICT can help students easier in accessing information they need which can bring positive effect for students, but this should supported by sufficient ICT equipment and ability to determine information which they search for in order to give better performance since the number one problem faced by students come from two numbers which are, few staff using ICT and information from ICT always change. It is recommended for lecturer to involve ICT services during the teaching and learning process more often and giving guidance to students to determine the appropriate material for their needs. Assessing Teacher Knowledge and Skills for Competency Based Formative Assessment of Mathematical Activities in Public Pre-primary Schools in Gem Sub-county, Kenya

Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) is a reform initiative in Kenya’s education that focuses on Competency Based Formative Assessment (CBFA) practice. The conduct of CBFA requires teachers to be knowledgeable on the new assessment strategies, expected to be attained after training. However, only 42.79% of the pre-primary teachers in Gem have been trained on the CBC, a percentage lower than other sub-counties in Siaya. Further, mathematical activities in Gem registered lowest ranking in performance compared to other learning areas.This raises questions whether the teachers poses the requisite knowledge to conduct formative assessment, which aids learning and achievement. The purpose of the study was to assess teacher knowledge and skills for CBFA of mathematical activities in public pre-primary schools in Gem.Objectives were to establish teacher pedagogical content knowledge to conduct CBFA, determine teacher knowledge of feedback provision to conduct CBFA, examine teacher knowledge of goal setting to conduct CBFA and to determine teacher knowledge of ICT to conduct CBFA. The study was based on Schildkamp et al. (2020) model which places acquisition of knowledge as key requisite for competency based formative assessment of mathematical activities. The study employed descriptive survey research design using mixed methods of data collection. The sample size for the study was 76 teachers, 1 Sub-County ECD Coordinator (SCECDC) and 10 headteachers. Data was obtained using questionnaire, classroom observation checklist and interview schedule. Quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics involving frequency distribution tables, percentages and means while qualitative data was analyzed using thematic categories. Findings indicate that teachers have limited knowledge on using formative assessment tools, setting lesson goal and use of Information Communication and Technology (ICT). They could not differentiate formative from summative evaluation when giving feedback. The results imply that there is need for better structured inset based on prior identification of teachers needs.

STEM Education as a Tool for the Effective Implementation of the Applied Orientation of Physics Teaching

Given the High role of future physics teachers in the development of Natural Science and technology, it is undoubtedly relevant to promote them to become competitive specialists in their professional activities. Therefore, there is a need to create an opportunity for future physics teachers to take a place in the world competition in the field of Science and technology by identifying advanced technologies for mastering professional competencies, introducing them into the educational process. As one of the advanced technologies – STEM education allows future physics teachers to develop as a person who can meet the requirements of the labor market, business and high-tech industries. Therefore, in the article, we considered effective methods of teaching, such as deep and comprehensive acquisition of knowledge through the wide use of Information Communication and STEM technologies in the teaching of the subject “Electricity and Magnetism”, as well as the problems of mastering the scientific foundations of the subject. He not only acquired knowledge from the subject “Electricity and magnetism”, but also applied the knowledge gained in everyday life, equipment, technology, etc. we showed the ways of developing the student's ability to think and creative activity.

The Role of Islamic Religious Education Teachers Through ICT-Based Learning Media Design in Improving Student Learning Outcomes at Smpn 4 Pinrang

This study discusses the Role of Islamic Education Teachers through the design of ICT-Based Learning Media. This study aims to determine the use of ICT-based learning media in SMP Negeri 4 Pinrang. This study used a type of descriptive qualitative research. With a case study approach, data sources are primary data (teachers, principals, vice principals) and secondary data (documents directly to the field or carried out in the field through observation, interviews, and documentation studies, in order to obtain clear and representative data. The results of this study show, (1) Islamic Religious Education learning tools used by Islamic Religious Education Teachers at SMP Negeri 4 Pinrang are learning tools that have been integrated with the latest curriculum, namely the independent curriculum. The intended learning tool design includes learning design, which begins with learning preparation which includes syllabus, preparation of lesson plans, and also the selection of methods and strategies. The learning design consists of three parts including preliminary activities, core activities after that closing and continued assessment for students. (2) The use of Information Communication and Technology (ICT)-based learning media used at SMP Negeri 4 Pinrang includes the use of hardware and software. The intended use of hardware is the use of laptops / computers, smartphones, active speakers / sound and LCD / projectors, while the use of software is powerpoint, internet, web, video editing applications, and youtube. (3) Learning Outcomes Students using ICT learning media based on the results of formative and summative assessments / assessments carried out by teachers to students show effectiveness in learning that produces or shows to improve student learning outcomes.

Changes in the use of technology are underway in the world of education. There are three main changes underway at the moment, namely (1), the emergence of extensive use of technology, (2), the transition of technology use in the High Desert, (3), the introduction of a national curriculum with the use of Information Communication and Technologies (ICT) systems. Organizational change can be thought of as having cycles with four phases: (1), the generation of ideas and inventions; (2), selection of ideas; (3), implementation of ideas; and (4), the diffusion of ideas. Organizational change offers benefits and can include the introduction of knowledge. Therefore, how do people see the word 'change' in higher education, Change means many new, and creative things for the development of education, so that the old way is no longer effective. The 2022 national curriculum has used the "Information Communication and Technologies" (ICT) system for all courses. The presence of technology makes lecturers and students required to learn to follow ongoing educational developments.
 

South African Controlled Foreign Companies' Rules and the Digital Economy

South Africa's controlled foreign company ("CFC") rules were enacted more than two decades ago before most of today's business models existed. These are anti-avoidance rules that ensure the South African taxation of profits diverted offshore by South African residents. In terms of the CFC rules, the profits of a non-resident company may also be subject to tax in South Africa at the hands of its South African resident shareholder if such non-resident company is considered to be a CFC. Advances in technology developments and the use of information communication and technology ("ICT") have given rise to what is referred to as the digital economy. The term refers to economic activities hinged on the use of ICT and the internet. Digitalisation has made it possible for a business to carry on economic activity without the need for a multitude of offices, staff, equipment, and other resources. As a result, new business models like Uber and Shien have emerged. This paper argues that the current South African CFC rules have not kept pace with these new business models and do not effectively regulate the new business models and the digital economy. This paper recommends that the CFC rules be updated to address the digital economy and new business models by amending the rules, incorporating the provisions of Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 into the rules, using country-by-country reporting, and even considering implementing a regime alternative to CFC rules.

UTILIZATION OF ICT IN TEACHING MATHEMATICS IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS AT SAN MATEO, ISABELA

This study aimed to assess the current levels of use of Information Communication and technology (ICT) equipment in San Mateo, Isabela to gain a deeper understanding on the effect of ICT in learning mathematics. Descriptive research design was utilized in the conduct of the study to finds out the respondent’s perception of the availability of technological gadgets and its effect in teaching mathematics in public secondary high school in San Mateo, Isabela. Mean and ranking were used to gain understanding on the impact of using modern gadgets to assist teachers in teaching secondary mathematics. The study revealed that most teachers are somewhat familiar with using technological tools or equipment’s due to the fact that majority of the respondents have a mid- range socio economic status. The data from the study also shows that the selected public schools in San Mateo, Isabela have adequate and often used ICT equipment in teaching mathematics and this greatly affects the effectivity of the used of ICT in teaching Mathematics. Hence, the study showed problems in the implementation of ICT in teaching Mathematics, particularly the deficiencies in the number of computers in labs. To improve this study, there should be continuous support in improving Mathematics program in terms of expanded activities. Teachers should provide an environment of discovery to engage the students in Math exploration and promotion of advocacy that supports the utilization of ICT in teaching mathematics like benchmarking and brainstorming, wide dissemination, and implementation on the used of ICT in teaching mathematics.

Information communication and technology in sports: a meticulous review.

Sports of all kinds even though have an alluring property of keeping their onlookers stuck to their place, the introduction of Technology, however, revolutionized it all together. Not only in legal sports but also the training and teaching methods have been reformed. The use of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) based technologies [Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), Hawkeye, Computer vision, Artificial intelligence, etc.] has moderately increased the interactive nature of sports. Employing ICT-driven technologies have continuously been increasing performance levels due to which high effective performance levels have been achieved. In addition to offering information to the users, it also acts as a means for connecting and interacting with the remaining world. In this article, we provide a review of the studies considering the developments and impact of employing ICT technology on sports, especially cricket. The study has focussed on domain-specific developments in cricket sports: developments in the batting domain, bowling domain, and wicketkeeping as well. For the study, the analysis has been done following the PRISMA guidelines. The study found that even though the researchers have done justifiable work in employing technology in sports as a whole but the domain-specific contribution in sports like cricket is not at the level as is need of the hour. In addition to the mentioned domains in the study, the research should gain speed in other domains like domain-specific Talent Identification for both genders, different age groups, diverse sports, etc. undoubtedly, the sports domain is employing technology at a vast level but a few domains like sports talent identification especially related to the most famous games like cricket require an immediate and intense focus of the researchers. Since this domain is still carrying out a traditional coach-oriented approach. There is an acute need to revolutionize the domain by incorporating modern technologies into it.

Specific Gaming Features in an Interactive Powerpoint on the enhancement of Grammar Skill

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) education becomes more prevalent in the 21st century, more emphasis been placed on developing teachers' competence in English language teaching, particularly in grammar terms. Teaching and learning in the 21st century have advanced and shifted from pen and paper to use of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) to help in the process of imparting knowledge and skills to the learners. Use of the information Communication Technology tools like computers, laptops, printers, scanners, software programs, data projectors, and interactive teaching box has made teaching and learning efficient and interesting. This study sought to determine the influence of selected gaming features in interactive PowerPoint in teaching of grammar skills among primary school students. The study adopted design of a narrative research model as it offers the respondents to give in-depth information about their experiences and allow the researcher to make independent observations. The study used observation schedule and interviews to collect data from a sample of 12 respondents teaching primary level English subject in a sub urban school in Pulau Tikus district, Penang, Malaysia. The study used thematic data analysis whereby the use of interactive PowerPoint gamming features in teaching primary school students significantly promoted good learning skills like lettering pronunciation, reading, spacing of words, coloring and joining of letters. Despite the positive outcomes of ICT utilization, teachers cited inadequate teaching resources and limited teacher training. The study recommends that teachers to be supported by adequate teaching and learning resources for efficient ICT utilization.

The effect of a training program based on the use of information communication and technology in improving the academic performance of mathematics among basic stage students

The study aimed to measure the effect of a training program based on the use of information communication and technology in education in raising the level of academic achievement in mathematics among students of the basic stage in the public schools affiliated with Al-Salt District. The quasi-experimental approach was used on a sample of 50 male and female students (a control and an experimental group). The study scale consisted of 14 items and a training program consisting of six sessions. The results of the study revealed a difference in the technology pre- and post-test between the mean scores of the experimental group students. They study mathematics according to the proposed training program. However, there was no significant statistical difference between the mean scores of the control group students who study mathematics according to the proposed training program in the information technology pre- and post-test. The results showed that there was a significant statistical difference between the mean scores of the experimental group students who study mathematics according to the proposed training program and between the average scores of the students of the control group who study the same subject according to the usual method in the information technology post-test.

The Graduates Tracer Study: Bachelor of Elementary Education Program

The study assessed the impact of the Bachelor of Elementary Education program in the life of its graduates in terms of their employability and professional competencies based on the perceptions of graduates and their employers. The survey method was used in the study to determine the graduates' status and performance. There are 250 BEEd graduates involved in the study. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, percent, and arithmetic mean were utilized to determine and describe the profile of graduates and employers, the trend in the employment of graduates for the term being studied, the employers’ assessment of the graduates in terms of their knowledge and understanding of their field of specialization, qualities, general skills and specialized skills generally expected of them in order to succeed in their teaching performance, and the over-all preparation of graduates acquired from the University for the type of work they are currently engaging and other skills needed for their future demands. The data generated from the employers' assessment of the variables mentioned was further analyzed and categorized to generate interrelated thoughts/themes that will emerge from the data. The results of the study showed that graduates of the program are competent because most of the graduates are licensed professionals, employed with regular or permanent status. However, it has been found that graduates need to gain innovative skills such as, research and the use of information communication and technology. The findings can be used as the basis of the program in improving the curriculum and instruction.

Teacher Engagement with Online Formative Assessment in EFL Writing During COVID-19 Pandemic: The Case of China

Although previous studies have examined the impact of online formative assessment on second language learners’ writing development, scant attention has been paid to how writing teachers engage with online formative assessment and the influencing factors. By exploring three English-as-a-foreign-language (EFL) writing teachers’ engagement with online formative assessment during COVID-19 in three universities in China, the qualitative case study identified three types of teacher engagement: disturbing, auxiliary, and integral, embodied by their varied emotional, physical-cognitive, and social investment in the formative use of information communication and technology in writing assessment. These individualized engagements were primarily influenced by teachers’ beliefs, digital literacies, and learning/teaching experiences, and mediated by relevant contextual and technological factors. Implications are provided for supporting EFL writing teachers’ engagement with online formative assessment.

Can digital storytelling enhance learning motivation for EFL students with low proficiency and confidence in English?

<p>The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of a digital storytelling assignment on English learning motivation of non-English major students with low proficiency and confidence in English in Japan. The participants of this study were non-English major students in Japan who studied in four courses of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). Each course was 15 weeks long and was held in the spring and fall terms of 2018. The study goal of the course was to acquire skills and knowledge to present ideas and messages effectively with the use of information communications and technology (ICT) and English. Three (pre-, midterm- and post-) questionnaires were employed to collect the necessary data. The results of the three questionnaires and two tests were received from 65 students. This research focused on 27 students with low proficiency and confidence in English as determined by the results of the pre-questionnaire and pre-test. The analysis of the data showed that the digital storytelling assignment could enhance learning motivation for most participants with low proficiency and confidence in English. Most students with low proficiency and confidence in English in this course also felt confident about conducting a digital storytelling assignment in English. </p>

Relationship between Teacher’s Level of Training in Information Communication and Technology and Students’ Academic Achievement in Physics in Makueni County, Kenya

Recent studies have found out that the use of Information communication and Technology (ICT) in teaching makes learning enjoyable thereby leading to improvement of academic achievement by the learner. Teachers who have high ICT skills have been found to demonstrate high levels of competency in using ICT in teaching. To get sufficient skills in the use of ICT, one has to undergo training or get exposed to the use of ICT through interaction with peers or through self-learning on the internet. This study sought to investigate the relationship between teacher’s level of ICT training and how it influences a learner’s academic achievement in physics in Makueni County. Stratified random sampling was applied to select a sample of 60 schools from a total population of 375 schools. The research used descriptive survey design where participants answered questions administered through interviews and questionnaires. Microsoft (MS) Excel (2010) was used to analyze the data. The objectives were analyzed through descriptive statistics and conceptual content analysis whereas analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to test the hypotheses. From the study, it was observed that students taught by teachers who trained ICT from an ICT training college obtained higher scores than students taught by teachers who took ICT as a unit in teacher training colleges. It was also observed that students taught by teachers with high levels of ICT training obtained a high means core than students taught by teachers with low level of ICT training. However, the study found out that students taught by teachers who were trained to use physics software produced students with low mean score than teachers who were not trained to use any physics software. From the findings, it was concluded that the teacher’s level of ICT training affects student’s academic achievement in physics with teachers who have high level of ICT training producing students who have a higher performance than students taught by teachers with low level of ICT training. From these findings, it was recommended that ICT training centers which specialize in training teachers be established, the ministry of education to organize more frequent in-service training (INSET) programs to enable teachers acquire more ICT skills and lastly, more research to be done on the influence physics software’s have on the academic achievement of students in physics.

The Use of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) to Enable Transparency, Accountability, and Participation in Indonesia

This research aims at understanding how ICT as panopticon vision enable transparency, accountability, and Participation in Indonesia. The betterment of these three aspects is believed to be beneficial for the government in fighting corruption. In the transparency aspect, this research has eight indicators which are constructed from studies by Bhatmagar, Davies & Fumega, Park & Florida, Grimmelikhuijsen, Keuffer & Mabillard: (1) the availability of laws and regulations, (2) the availability of government budget allocations and spending, (3) the availability of performance reports, (4) open government processes, (5) identification of elected officials and civil servants under investigation for corruption and fraudulent activities, (6) disclosure of assets and investments of public officials, (7) provision of e-procurement, and (8) using file formats. In the accountability aspect, four indicators from studies of Lee & Kwak and Davies & Fumega are used. They are (1) the availability of social media presence, (2) using mainstream social media for interactive, on-going conversations, storytelling, and communications, (3) the availability of a platform for questions and answers, and (4) the availability of information about feedback from the public. Finally, for the aspect of Participation, three indicators by Lee & Kwak are employed. Those are (1) voting and polling for a decision-making process or a public organization assessment, (2) feedback and ideation platform, and (3) crowdsourcing to report corruption or grievances. This research uses a qualitative research approach. It is benefiting from the use of secondary data as a form of the big data source. Hence, this research is an initial attempt to exploit the availability of big data as a valid data source. To ensure the secondary data sources’ validity, the researchers employed a triangulation process of backgrounds and reference checking. The data analysis in this research is based on 2 ICT based initiatives; Government websites and apps. It is evident from this research finding that, first, there are 35 ICT based initiatives, 31 websites, and four apps. From these numbers, there are only18 websites and four apps that are available. Second, in general, those websites and apps do enable transparency, accountability, and Participation. Another important highlight of the finding is that three unidentified websites and ten websites are unsuccessful in promoting those three aspects. However, most of the websites and apps had turned out a success. In the meanwhile, ICT as panopticon vision also results in new corruption opportunities. This study highlights three examples of new corruption opportunities. It is recommended that Indonesia continue to work on those ten unavailable websites and, more importantly, be cautious and aware of the new corruption modes. Only by doing those, the role of ICT to fight corruption can be more strengthened.

Augmented Reality as a Classroom Teaching and Learning Tool: Teachers’ and Students’ Attitude

The use of Information Communication and Technology in teaching learning has been emphasized a lot in the recent times as an effective instructional tool and it will only grow and develop further. Augmented Reality is one of the futuristic pedagogy that will offer great opportunities in the incorporation of information technology in teaching and learning. Augmented Reality refers to the introduction of virtual elements in the real world. This will supplement students’ learning through the use of technology. This study assessed the students’ and teachers’ attitude towards the use of Augmented Reality as a learning tool after they experimented and experienced the use of augmented reality through mobile application. For the teachers, a three-hour professional development session on Augmented Reality was conducted. Teachers were taught how to use mobile application to create Augmented Reality. For the students, research team created the Augmented Reality using a mobile application and let students experience it in a biology lesson. After the sessions, their attitudes towards the use of Augmented Reality was assessed through statements of agreement on a 5-point Likert scale. SPSS has been used for statistical analysis. The results show that both the teachers and students have overwhelming support-positive attitude towards the use of Augmented Reality in the classroom teaching and learning.

Aspects Of Legal Regulation Of Electronic Document And Electronic Document Circulation In Business

This article discusses the provisions of the current legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, regulating the field of electronic document management. The article considered the regulatory legal acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, regulating the issues of drawing up an electronic document and implementing electronic document management, such as: the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On electronic documents and electronic digital signature" dated January 7, 2003; The Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On Electronic Document Management"; Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Informatization" dated November 24, 2015 No. 418; Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On informatization" dated December 11, 2003 No. 560; Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated July 26, 2016 No. 11"On payments and payment systems"; Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated November 1, 2019 No. 578 "On payments and payment systems". When considering the issue of drawing up an electronic document in electronic document management systems, it is clear that the issue of certifying an electronic document with a seal in the necessary cases has not been settled. For a document to be considered signed and certified with a seal, it is necessary that such a signature and seal be included in the electronic document. Today there is a formal obstacle to the electronic document flow of documents, the creation of which is carried out on special paper forms with coats of arms or emblems. This requirement applies to certain types of statutory, financial documents, notarized documents, etc. In connection with the widespread use of information communications, the problem of information security, the existing systems for storing, transferring and processing information, becomes very important for society. Currently, the prevailing epidemiological situation in the country and in the world has significantly accelerated the exchange of data in electronic form in all spheres of society. Almost all activities of the society have switched to the electronic format of information exchange, including entrepreneurship. We hope that in the Republic of Kazakhstan and in the Republic of Uzbekistan, the development of the digital economy model will have a productive effect on the development of entrepreneurship and help overcome the problems existing in business.

Clipped wings: School leaders’ identities in ICT-enriched education landscapes – a narrative inquiry

This qualitative research inquiry explores how school leaders shape their identities while navigating incessant and seemingly endless school transformations. The central questions addressed are the following: how do school leaders make sense of their identities in rapid periods of reform? And how do they view themselves in new educational landscapes? An exploratory case study of four target schools that took part in policy reform initiatives directed at the ubiquitous use of Information Communication and Technology was undertaken for this inquiry. Using narrative inquiry as an analytical frame for the focus group discussions interviews and field notes, this inquiry investigates and builds emerging explanations to school leaders’ sense-making in periods of reform.

MANAJEMEN PEMBELAJARAN BLENDED LEARNING DALAM UPAYA MENINGKATKAN EFEKTIVITAS BELAJAR MAHASISWA

The development of the 21st century world is marked by the use of information and communication technology in all facets of life. Utilization of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) through the internet in all fields, including in the education or learning process. Progress in the world of ICT changes many things, in the world of work that can be replaced by advances in the world of Internet technology of Thing (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Lecturers must have the ability to adapt to changes and technological development by changing the learning process so far the lecture is not only face-to-face, but can be done online in order to improve education access services. Internet as a result of technological developments certainly has an influence in the world of education, especially in the learning process that has changed conventional learning patterns into modern patterns based online with the use of Information Communication and Technology (ICT), known as E-Learning. Collaborative learning between conventional learning and ICT-based learning developed as collaborative learning or known as Blended Learning. In the management of Blended Learning learning is very effective, Blended Learning Learning is very effective to use because it provides easy accessibility of students wherever, whenever and wherever can be accessed in accordance with the required learning outcomes. Blended Learning learning resources are not fixated on lecturers in the course but can be from various sources, in the form of digital, video and other sources of information.
