Experiments were carried out on the x-ray excitation of the surfaces of BaTiO3 and PbTiO3-- PbZrO3. Representative photographs of the output from one sample are presented. The results support the existence of a space-charge layer on the surface with different net polarities on different parts of the same sample. An equivalent circuit is described, and the possible effects of these layers on the use of ferroelectrics are discussed briefly.
