LCT-Based Framework for the Assessment of Sustainability: From the Perspective of Literature Review

AbstractIn the context of sustainable development, urban transformation should encourage the use of life cycle thinking tools for infrastructure development. By adopting sustainable economic, social, and environmental criteria, this study presents a review of sustainability assessment tools to build a framework for urban infrastructure. It incorporates a variety of methods that economists and industrial ecologists use for evaluating their projects, in addition to the LCT approach. To recognize the strategic sustainability indicators and criteria, the framework uses LCC, LCA, and SLCA in conjunction with stakeholder evaluation and multi-criteria decision analysis, which recognizes the foremost three pillars of sustainability, i.e., economy, environment, and society. Additionally, system dynamics and agent-based modelling are used to optimise the framework. The prominence of the framework is to understand the route an urban infrastructure development should follow to achieve key sustainability interests involving the interconnected environmental and socio-economic aspects. This sustainability assessment framework can be utilised by consultants or supporting agencies to help organisations carry out and monitor such projects.

ECO-INNOVATIVE TRANSFORMATION OF THE URBAN INFRASTRUCTURE OF UKRAINE ON THE WAY TO POST-WAR RECOVERY

The study is aimed at summarizing the processes of eco-innovative (green) transformation of urban infrastructure and researching possible prospects for the development of Ukraine in this context. In the course of the research, the possibilities of "green" transformation of urban infrastructure were considered and it was noted that the use of the principles of eco-innovative transformation in the post-war period can only take place under the condition of proper planning, state support and the creation of favourable market conditions. The authors noted that the success of such a transformation requires the establishment of green goals in all aspects of the development of Ukrainian cities. Auto-frame considered the financial possibilities of the development of urban infrastructure and proposed the location of support offices for the eco-innovative transformation of urban infrastructure at the regional level. The principles of achieving eco-innovative transformation of urban infrastructure are revealed, namely maximum energy efficiency, energy transition, "zero waste", environmental sustainability of buildings, adaptation to climate change, popularization of a green lifestyle, resource conservation, citizen involvement and circular economy. It is proposed to create a platform that would unite architects, builders, urban planners, citizens, artists and other interested persons. This platform should contribute to the search for answers to the question of how to ensure a quick, ecological, attractive and safe "green" transformation of urban infrastructure. Ukraine should cooperate with the European Union within various green platforms and networks that help cities in green transformation. All the above-mentioned tools and solutions should contribute to the creation of green, sustainable and people-oriented cities in Ukraine. The authors have considered the possibilities of financing the restoration of Ukrainian cities after the destruction in terms of the necessary financial resources, donor countries, and reconstruction expenditures.

Policy dialogue: Key factors for the success of transit-oriented development infrastructure 3.0 in big cities in Indonesia

This research aims to determine the factors driving the success of four large cities in Indonesia in implementing Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) infrastructure policies beyond the eight TOD 3.0 Principles. Only a few studies like this have been conducted. The research uses qualitative methods and is supported by in-depth interviews with stakeholders, community leaders, community groups, and service users. The research findings reveal six themes: policy dialogue, organizational structure and coordination, changes in community habits, resources, dissemination and communication, and transportation and connectivity services. The characteristics of the community in the study area that prioritize deliberation are important determinants in policy dialogue and are involved in determining policy formulation. The city government has established a comprehensive organizational and coordination structure for the village and sub-district levels. The Government controls infrastructure development activities, establishes a chain of command and coordination, and encourages people to change their private car usage habits. The city government combines all this with the principle of deliberation and conveys important information to the public. The research highlights the differences in TOD implementation in Indonesia compared to other countries. Specifically, the existence of policy dialogue and the direct involvement of community members influence the level of program policy formulation and are crucial in controlling urban infrastructure development.

Developing urban infrastructure constructions for increasing e-commerce sales: the moderating roles of aging population

PurposeThe aging population, a higher proportion of older adults (aged 65+), is considered a global and severe problem, while the information systems (IS) literature on detecting the relationship between the aging population and the development of electronic commerce (e-commerce) is limited and insufficient. Hence, the main objective of this paper is to examine whether an aging population can moderate the effect of infrastructure constructions on e-commerce sales and whether an aging population can affect e-commerce sales.Design/methodology/approachTo investigate the relationship between the aging population and e-commerce sales, this study proposes two potential influential mechanisms: moderating the effects of infrastructure development on e-commerce sales and direct influence. Subsequently, a sample of 31 Chinese provinces from 2013 to 2019 is utilized to conduct regression analyses in order to examine these hypotheses.FindingsThe findings suggest that the development of urban transportation infrastructure and network constructions can significantly contribute to the enhancement of e-commerce sales, and the influence cannot be affected by aging population. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that an aging population can have a positive effect on e-commerce sales.Practical implicationsThe findings can inform future infrastructure constructions by assessing the potential of infrastructure projects to boost e-commerce sales and examining whether this effect varies in an aging population context.Originality/valueThe findings substantiate the pivotal role of older adults in the e-commerce industry. Moreover, the obtained results establish a positive relationship between an aging population and e-commerce sales, thereby offering diverse perspectives on existing theories.

Optimizing urban green infrastructure using a highly detailed surface modeling approach

Urban trees and forests show a better ecosystem with many benefits, including pure air quality. The development of urban green infrastructure (UGI) creates a better management system that greatly impacts social values in an urban system. The UGI and construction activities are receiving much attention for their effectiveness in addressing various urban ecological, social and economic issues. Using green infrastructure in stormwater management can reduce the influence on urban sewerage systems and, eventually, on building water resources. The main goal of the research is to optimize the green infrastructure to provide a less-pollution, well-organized, and pleasurable environment for the inhabitants. Various models are used to study the present rainfall-runoff scenario, but the stormwater management model (SWMM) is the most preferable and suggested model. Once the parameters are accessed, optimizing the green infrastructure (GI) will be easy. A complete SWMM model is evaluated over the complete surface, and a hydrological measurement is presented. The evaluation study presents various component percentages: asphalt (37%), green (27%), ceiling (21%), grit (12%), and cemented area (2%), which provides rainproof coverage of approximately 60%. A design is developed about the diverse events of GI in urban exploiting the SWMM and demonstrates its stimulus on the rainfall-runoff behaviour. In recent years, very little attention has been given to green spaces in urban areas, which not only increases pollution but also decreases the urbanization. Therefore, urban green spaces are more important to improve air quality and resident living standards. Over the given scenario and the rainfall event, a decline of the quantitative discharge parameters is evident, such as discharge volume (i.e., from 3.6 to 61.8) and the peak discharge rate (i.e., from 5.4 to 62.7%). The simulation results show that green areas give high satisfaction with low construction costs, which shows the superlative performance ratio of the examined measures. From the investigation, it is also recommended to have green areas and public spaces in impervious urban areas, which greatly reduced the runoff in the project area.

Future-oriented Codesign Workshops as a Method of Empowering Citizens in Urban Infrastructure Development: A Capabilitarian Analysis

ABSTRACT Urban mobility infrastructures have a major impact on the everyday life of city residents. Not only their mobility, but also their health, enjoyment of life and development of lifestyle preferences are affected by them. However, inclusive participation in infrastructure planning processes is difficult to achieve. We explore a foresight approach that develops desirable urban visions that involve residents in the preparation of decisions that will impact their lives. We propose future-oriented co-design workshops for the operationalisation of a capabilitarian focus on conscientisation, conciliation and collaboration to involve citizens in the visioning of infrastructure planning. The study is based on future-oriented codesign workshops held in Montreal in 2022–2023. Residents were invited to evaluate and discuss various future scenarios that re-imagine a highway currently cutting through the city. The results show the capabilitarian co-design workshops to promote critical thinking, vision creation and to a lesser extent collaboration in the discussions triggered by the future-oriented codesign workshops. The results also reveal the difficulties of making such discussions truly inclusive, as well as their ambivalent relation to urban planning processes.

Az urbanizáció kérdései Kirgizisztánban: Biskek új települései

Urbanization in Kyrgyzstan, in particular the capital city of Bishkek faces the rapid growth of new settlements that often outpaces the developmental issues such as infrastructure, housing shortages, social services, employment, environmental impact, cultural and social integration, security, land ownership and property rights. These issues can be complex, and lead to disputes and uncertainty for residents. This can hinder development in new settlements. Efforts to address these urbanization issues in new settlements around Bishkek city should involve comprehensive urban planning, infrastructure development, land management, and social policies. It's essential to ensure that urbanization contributes to improved living conditions and opportunities for all residents, fostering sustainable and inclusive growth.

Развитие подходов к оценке эффективности функционирования пассажирских транспортно-пересадочных узлов

Objective: the article proposes a method for assessing the efficiency of passenger transport hubs, based on the key principles of operation management. Methods: to achieve the goal of the study, methods of calculating coefficients evaluating compliance with the basic principles of operations management, methods of statistical analysis and data processing, and the method of simulation are used. To carry out the research, materials from scientific papers on the chosen topic, periodicals, as well as Internet resources, including open data from the St. Petersburg Transport Committee, were used. Results: the main scientific result is a method developed by the author to evaluate the efficiency of passenger transport hubs, based on the key principles of operations management. The proposed method takes into account the specifics and characteristics of passenger transport hubs and can be used at any stage of their life cycle, including at the design stage. Unlike the available methods, the proposed methodology allows timely detection and elimination of “bottlenecks” in the planning solutions of a passenger transport hub. Practical significance: as a result of testing the methodology on the example of the Volkovskaya transport interchange hub project, practical recommendations were formed to eliminate bottlenecks and increase the capacity of the facility. The author’s developments can be used in the executive bodies of state power responsible for the development of urban transport infrastructure, and in design organizations in the planning processes for the construction and modernization of passenger transport hubs, as well as in evaluating the effectiveness of their work.

NETWORK ANALYSIS FOR THE STUDY OF TRANSPORT IN THE METROPOLITAN AREA OF ALGEIRS

Transport in the metropolitan area of Algiers is very complicated, so we used the powerful tools of geographic information systems in the analysis of transport in the study area. Through the utilization of network analysis and GIS capabilities, our study focuses on optimizing transportation networks and enhancing port accessibility in the metropolitan regions of Boumerdes, Blida, Tipaza, and Algiers. Our methodology involves data collection, GIS analysis, and mapping to generate databases and maps of metropolitan networks. Through assessing port accessibility, road connectivity, and population-based hotspots analysis. Our study reveals Algiers as the most accessible municipality, attributed to its strong centralization. The roadbased analysis and population-based hotspot analysis provide valuable insights into port accessibility, road connectivity, and high-density townships, facilitating informed urban planning and infrastructure development.

PATTERN OF SPRAWL DEVELOPMENT ALONG THE ABUJA – KEFFI HIGHWAY CORRIDOR IN THE NORTH CENTRAL NIGERIA

The rapid expansion of urban areas worldwide is widely attributed to the growth of urban populations. The objective of this study is to examine the expansion of urban sprawl in the North Central area of Nigeria, specifically along the Abuja-Keffi highway corridor, over 29 years, from 1991 to 2020. The study utilized satellite imagery from three distinct spatiotemporal intervals (1991–2003, 2003–2015, and 2015–2020) and incorporated three different types of Landsat sensors, namely Enhanced Thematic Mapper (ETM), Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+), and Operational Land Imager (OLI). The study employed image processing and land use classification analysis techniques to generate land use and land cover (LULC). The analysis of the data reveals that there has been a significant increase in sprawling development along the Abuja-Keffi highway corridor. The built-up area of the region has undergone significant expansion over the past three decades, with the urbanized land area increasing from 1081.98 hectares (4.96%) in 1991 to 10263.15 hectares in 2020, accounting for 47.06% of the total built-up area. The research also documented two distinct forms of urban growth, specifically linear and leapfrog, throughout the corridor. The research recommends regional urban policy, urban growth boundaries as well as effective and efficient development control mechanisms in the selected settlements along the corridor. The Abuja Municipal Area Council and Karu Local Government are urged to promote urban renewal and infrastructure development through private partnerships, sustainable policies, waste management systems, and community engagement. 

Evaluating the Impact of Urban Digital Infrastructure on Land Use Efficiency Based on 279 Cities in China

The development and application of urban digital infrastructure can alter land use patterns and facilitate the aggregation of factors such as labor and capital, thereby influencing the land use efficiency in cities. Based on statistical data from 279 cities in China spanning from 2004 to 2019, this study employs fixed-effects and mediation models to analyze the impact of urban digital infrastructure on land use efficiency. The findings reveal that the construction of urban digital infrastructure significantly promotes the enhancement of land use efficiency, with technological innovation levels and industrial structural transformation serving as mediators between urban digital infrastructure and land use efficiency. The impact of urban digital infrastructure on land use efficiency exhibits heterogeneity across different city scales, urban tiers, geographic locations, and policy implementation batches. Its effects are more pronounced in larger-scale cities, higher-tier cities, those located in the central and western regions, and the first two batches of pilot cities. The research findings contribute to providing theoretical references and a decision-making basis for enhancing land use efficiency, advocating for increased investment in urban digital infrastructure construction, encouraging technological innovation levels, and facilitating the upgrading of industrial structural transformation.

Advancing Urban Life: A Systematic Review of Emerging Technologies and Artificial Intelligence in Urban Design and Planning

The advancement of cutting-edge technologies significantly transforms urban lifestyles and is indispensable in sustainable urban design and planning. This systematic review focuses on the critical role of innovative technologies and digitalization, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), in urban planning through geo-design, aiming to enhance urban life. It begins with exploring the importance of AI and digital tools in revolutionizing contemporary urban planning practices. Through the methodology based on the Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) protocol, this review sifts through relevant literature over the past two decades by categorizing artificial intelligence technologies based on their functionalities. These technologies are examined for their utility in urban planning, environmental modeling, and infrastructure development, highlighting how they contribute to creating smarter and more livable cities. For instance, machine learning techniques like supervised learning excel in forecasting urban trends, whereas artificial neural networks and deep learning are superior in pattern recognition and vital for environmental modeling. This analysis, which refers to the comprehensive evaluation conducted in this Systematic Review, encompasses studies based on diverse data inputs and domains of application, revealing a trend toward leveraging AI for predictive analytics, decision-making improvements, and the automation of complex geospatial tasks in urban areas. The paper also addresses the challenges encountered, including data privacy, ethical issues, and the demand for cross-disciplinary knowledge. The concluding remarks emphasize the transformative potential of innovative technologies and digitalization in urban planning, advocating for their role in fostering better urban life. It also identifies future research avenues and development opportunities. In light of our review findings, this study concludes that AI technologies indeed hold transformative promise for the field of geo-design and urban planning. They have proven instrumental in advancing predictive analytics, refining decision-making, and streamlining complex geospatial tasks. The AI’s capacity to process expansive datasets and improve urban planning accuracy has facilitated more sustainable urban development and enhanced the resilience of urban environments.

Characteristics of Urban Flood Resilience Evolution and Analysis of Influencing Factors: A Case Study of Yingtan City, China

Intense climate change and rapid urbanization have increased the risk of urban flooding, seriously affecting urban economic and social stability. Enhancing urban flood resilience (UFR) has required a new solution to cope with urban flood disasters. In this study, taking Yingtan city as an example, a system of indicators for evaluating UFR was constructed, with 17 representative indicators, comprising three subsystems: socio-economic, ecological, and infrastructural. A hybrid model combining Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP), Entropy Weight Method (EWM), and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) was applied, to develop an index-based measurement to compare and evaluate UFR, and Gray Relational Analysis (GRA) was used to discover the main factors affecting UFR. In addition, the natural discontinuous method was innovatively used to divide the UFR grade interval into levels, and the grade change was evaluated based on the TOPSIS method. The results showed that (1) From 2010 to 2022, the UFR in Yingtan City increased by 80.69%, and the factors affecting UFR were highly correlated with urban infrastructure development; however, the ecological resilience in the subsystem showed a fluctuating downward trend because of the influence of the surface area of lakes and rivers; (2) The grades of UFR for Yingtan City increased from Level III (2010 and 2016) to Level IV (2022), with local financial expenditures and the age structure of the population being the main factors currently limiting the development of UFR. The study provides a theoretical basis for the construction of an indicator system for assessing the UFR of Yingtan and proposes practical improvement directions for UFR.

Distributed energy technologies, decentralizing systems and the future of African cities

Within global debates, decentralization with respect to renewable electricity is positioned as pivotal in overlapping calls for decarbonization, energy access and just transitions. The promise is that technologies that are smaller and distributed will deliver a range of benefits, including enabling infrastructural innovations and expanding sustainable access, notably by empowering local authorities. While shifting to low-carbon systems is imperative, in this paper we call for attention to the complexity, opportunities and risks of commonly celebrated experiments in distributed electricity technologies when applied to African contexts. We draw on the case of Uganda, unpacking a series of four innovative electricity projects currently under way. For each case, we look at the actors involved and the imagined relationship between the projects and the incumbent grid. From these cases, we argue that, in this African context characterized by contested urban governance and fragmented networks, careful attention to supporting urban scale institutional and infrastructural development is necessary, although in many cases bypassed.

Using fs/QCA to explore the influencing factors of urban green infrastructure development and its combinational drivers: the case of the Yangtze River Delta region of China.

High levels of urban green infrastructure (UGI) development can help mitigate the climate, biodiversity, and habitat crises faced by cities and support the achievement of sustainable urban development. Based on the relevant data of 41 cities in the Yangtze River Delta region obtained from 2011 to 2020, this study measured the development level of natural and geographic conditions, economic development, urban construction, social and cultural development, and eco-environment quality and urban green infrastructure (UGI); evaluated the development trend of UGI in the region during the 12th Five-Year Plan and 13th Five-Year Plan by using entropy TOPSIS; and used fs/QCA to explain the high-level development path of each city toward the achievement of a green infrastructure. The results showed that (1) the development level of UGI in the Yangtze River Delta region decreases from southeast to northwest, and gradually decreases from Shanghai, Hangzhou, and other central cities. (2) There were several different configurations of high levels and non-high levels of UGI development drivers across regions, confirming the existence of multiple causality and asymmetry indices in the drivers of UGI. (3) During the "12th Five-Year Plan" and the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, the conditions needed to achieve a high level of UGI gradually became stricter, expanding from nature-social culture and urban construction-eco-environmental drivers to nature-urban construction, nature-social culture-eco-environmental, urban construction-economy-social culture-eco-environmental drivers. Research findings can provide greater guidance and implications for future sustainable urban development.

Infrastructuring citizenry in Smart City Vienna: investigating participatory smartification between policy and practice

ABSTRACT The notion ‘smart city' has found a prominent place in urban visions, policies, planning, and infrastructure development, often promising citizens’ participation in shaping urban futures. This paper examines the frictions emerging between powerful Smart City Vienna policy imaginaries and their realization in real-world participatory experiments. Drawing on Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) sensitivities, we highlight the challenges of giving voice to citizens and, in particular, the limits of participation in projectified (i.e. clearly temporalized) urban transformations. We not only observe the messiness, the unknowns, and uncertainties of participatory smartification processes but also the quite powerful infrastructuring of citizenry through these processes. This points to the need to design participatory processes able to respond to this open-endedness and processuality of temporalized urban transformation, always being attentive to who is experimenting with what and who can participate in shaping urban futures.

Implementation of Road Equipment Installation in South Sumatera Province (Case Study of Installation of Street Lighting Equipment on the Betung – BTS Section, Palembang City)

Road infrastructure plays a pivotal role in the development and functionality of urban areas, and installing road equipment, such as street lighting, is crucial for ensuring safety and accessibility. This study focuses on the implementation of road equipment installation, with a specific case study of installing street lighting equipment on the Betung – BTS section in Palembang City, South Sumatra Province. The research employs a comprehensive approach, combining technical assessments, project management analysis, and stakeholder engagement evaluations. It examines the planning and design phases of the street lighting installation, considering factors such as traffic patterns, safety requirements, and energy efficiency. The study also investigates the procurement process for the equipment, including vendor selection, quality control, and cost management. Furthermore, the research evaluates the installation process, including on-site challenges, coordination among involved parties, and adherence to established timelines. The effectiveness of the installed street lighting equipment in enhancing road safety and urban aesthetics is assessed through field observations and community feedback. The findings of this study aim to provide insights into the best practices and challenges encountered during the implementation of road equipment projects, mainly focusing on street lighting in the Betung – BTS section. Recommendations derived from the research contribute to optimizing future road equipment installations in South Sumatra Province, emphasizing the importance of efficient project management, technical considerations, and community engagement in achieving sustainable and safe urban infrastructure development.

Fiscal expenditure efficiency and green economic efficiency: evidence from Chinese cities

This study develops indicators for evaluating Green Economy Efficiency (GEE) and Fiscal Expenditure Efficiency (FEE) at the prefecture level and above within Chinese cities. Utilizing the super-efficiency SBM model and a three-stage DEA model, we empirically examine the influence of FEE on GEE. To address the issue of endogeneity arising from reverse causality between FEE and GEE, this research employs fiscal autonomy and officials’ tenure as instrumental variables for FEE. The key findings are summarized as follows: (1) GEE exhibits a fluctuating upward trend from 2006 to 2020, while FEE remains relatively stable overall. Notably, the GEE and FEE in the eastern region surpass those in the central and western regions. (2) A one percentage point increase in FEE corresponds to a substantial 7.597% rise in GEE, indicating a significant promotional effect, a result consistently upheld in robustness tests. Furthermore, factors such as urbanization level, economic development, education level, and industrial structure also contribute to urban green economic growth. (3) FEE primarily contributes to GEE through local economic growth, urban infrastructure development, and regional innovation levels. (4) The impact of FEE on GEE is more pronounced in developed cities, larger cities, those with high fiscal freedom, and highly urbanized cities. Based on these conclusions, policy recommendations are proposed: (1) contingent upon local circumstances, each municipal government should optimize its fiscal expenditure structure and enhance FEE based on its unique endowments; (2) make full use of spatial correlation and knowledge spillover effect to promote the coordinated growth of FEE and GEE; (3) improve urban infrastructure construction and encourage regional technological innovation.

INVESTMENT POTENTIAL OF CITIES IN THE CONDITIONS OF WAR

The investment potential of Ukrainian cities during the war is analysed in this article. It defines the concept of 'investment potential of a city' and analyses its key components and interrelationships, including economic stability, infrastructure and logistics, market potential, level of innovation, education, and labour force. Research has shown that the investment potential of a city is closely linked to its level of economic stability. Therefore, effective risk reduction and sound financial management are crucial in attracting long-term investments. It has been revealed that transport connections, communication networks, and other logistical aspects contribute to the growth of a city's investment potential. However, the war has significantly impacted urban infrastructure and logistics in Ukraine, creating serious challenges for the functioning and development of cities. The military situation in Ukraine has had a significant impact on the economic environment and business infrastructure, challenging the market potential of cities. The level of innovation in cities is affected by the situation of war, which brings many challenges and limitations. However, innovation can be an important factor in post-conflict adaptation and reconstruction. Challenges that can affect a city's investment potential include the impact of military conflict on education and the workforce. Therefore, it is crucial to focus on restoring and supporting educational initiatives, creating conditions to attract the best talent, and stimulating innovation in education and human resource development to overcome the challenges posed by war. The investment potential of cities is a multi-faceted indicator that reflects economic, socio-cultural and technological dynamics and helps to make informed decisions about investment and urban infrastructure development. 

Channel morphological change monitoring using high-resolution LiDAR-derived DEM and multi-temporal imageries

Natural processes and human activities both cause morphological changes in channels. Remote sensing products are often used to assess planform changes, but they tend to overlook vertical changes. However, considering both planform and vertical changes is crucial for a comprehensive evaluation of morphological changes. Using spatiotemporal aerial imagery and topographic data, remote sensing plays a vital role in evaluating channel morphological changes and flood-carrying capacity. This study aimed to investigate the morphological changes of a creek in an urban catchment using very high-resolution remote sensing products. In this study, we developed a new framework for investigating overall channel morphology change by employing very high-resolution aerial imagery and a LiDAR-derived digital elevation model (DEM). By digitizing channel boundaries using ArcGIS Pro 3.0, and analyzing various morphological parameters, erosion, and deposition patterns, we examined the impact of urban expansion and infrastructure development on channel adjustments. Channel adjustments have been performed in the case study catchment (Dry Creek, South Australia, Australia) due to urban expansion and development of infrastructure in the downstream reaches. Our findings revealed a significant southwest shift in the planform of the channel, with a maximum shift of 478 m and an average shift of 217 m since 1998. This alteration resulted in an increase in the sinuosity index reaching 1.2. Over the period from 2018 to 2022, the channel experienced a net deposition depth of 3.4 cm to 3.6 cm in downstream reaches. The annual deposition volume in the downstream reaches was 1963 m3, necessitating regular desilting to prevent channel capacity loss and flooding in the surrounding environment. This study also highlights the incremental growth of riparian vegetation within the channel, which affects surface roughness, channel slope, and carrying capacity. These findings provide a valuable baseline for future investigations into stream channel morphology changes and emphasize the importance of implementing appropriate measures such as desilting and vegetation management to mitigate deposition levels, reduce flood risks, and enhance the overall health and functionality of Dry Creek. The framework used in this study can be applied to other case studies employing reliable and high-resolution remote sensing data products.
