A new species of Phenacorhamdia Dahl 1961 (Siluriformes: Heptapteridae) from the Paranapanema River basin, southeastern Brazil.

A new species of Phenacorhamdia is described from Paranapanema River, Upper Paraná River basin, southeastern Brazil. The new species is distinguished from congeners by the combination of following characters 45-46 vertebrae; an entirely dark-brown body; nine pleural ribs; eight branched rays in upper lobe of caudal fin; seven branched rays in pectoral fin; 13 anal-fin rays with 9-10 branched; first basal radial inserted at the 13th vertebrae and eight branchiostegal rays.

Branchiostegus biendong, a New Tilefish from Vietnam (Perciformes: Branchiostegidae).

A new tilefish, Branchiostegus biendong, is described on the basis of three specimens (181-209 mm in standard length [SL]) collected from a local fish market of Quy Nhon on the South China Sea coast of central Vietnam. It can be distinguished from 17 congeners in having the following combination of characters: six diagonal scale rows exposed on cheek; cheek scales moderately large (diameter 2.2-2.5% SL); predorsal ridge black; cheek almost silver with an oval-shaped, yellow blotch along ventral margin of eye; dorsal fin translucent yellowish with narrow black margin overlapping stronger yellowish coloration dorsally; upper lobe of caudal fin with 5-6 yellow stripes and tip with black blotch; and lower lobe of caudal fin navy blue. A key to five species of Branchiostegus from Vietnamese waters is provided.

Nemipterus andamanensis, a new nemipterid fish (Perciformes: Nemipteridae) from the Andaman Islands

A new species of threadfin bream, Nemipterus andamanensis n. sp. from the Andaman Islands is described and figured. N. andamanensis resembles N. marginatus (Valenciennes, 1830) in general body form and colour pattern, but differs from the latter by having four yellow stripes on the head region, upper lobe of caudal fin and filament yellow, and lower lobe of caudal fin pinkish. The mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase C subunit I (COI) gene sequence comparison with close species revealed that Nemipterus andamanensis n. sp. has distinct genetic divergence (8.5%) from Nemipterus marginatus and other species of the genus occurring in the area.

First Record of a Gaper Champsodon longipinnis (Perciformes: Champsodontidae) from Korea

This is the first report of Champsodon longipinnis (Champsodontidae) collected from Korea. The specimen (100.9 mm in standard length) was caught by a bottom trawl in the coastal waters off Busan, Korea. This species is characterized by the following morphological traits: body with small denticulate scales except abdomen around pelvic fin base; posterior end of maxilla extending beyond margin of eye; dark pigmentation on most of the first dorsal fin, upper half of the first to the fourth soft ray of the second dorsal fin, and partial upper lobe of caudal fin. We add C. longipinnis to the Korean fish fauna and suggest a new Korean name, “Jeom-ak-eo-chi,” for the species.
