1982: NCFR Filmstrip--Videotape--Slide Set Awards Competition

The Annual NCFR Filmstrip-VideotapeSlide Set Awards Competition was held at the Department of Human Development, Family Living, and Continuing Educational Services, University of Wisconsin-Stout, in April of 1982, for the second consecutive year. The purpose of the competition is to recognize excellence in the production of filmstrips, videotapes, and slide sets dealing with the subject of the family, to promote their effective use, and to encourage high standards in the development of creative learning opportunities utilizing these media. A total of eleven filmstrips, fifteen videotapes, and one slide set were accepted for entry. The National Council on Family Relations extended invitations to producers to submit entries for appraisal in eleven screening categories. Requirements for acceptance stated that each entry must be nationally distributed and available for rental, purchase, or free loan, and that the date of release should be no earlier than January, 1980. Entries were judged by an inter-disciplinary group of professionals representing child and family development, cooperative extension, family counseling, psychology, sociology, and media and library specialties. Executive Board members of the Stout Student Council on Family Relations also participated in the selection process. The evaluation of each entry was based on the following criteria: (a) content-accuracy and continuity of information delivery as well as effectiveness as a stimulus for discussion;

A Note From Your President Ruth K. MacDonald With this issue we say goodbye to Dr. Patricia Dooley, our editor for the ChLA Quarterly for the last three years, and welcome Dr. Perry Nodelman as editor-in-chief and Professor Jill May as associate editor. Patricia's steady hand and relentless pursuit for excellence have maintained and expanded our Quarterly and have set a high standard for our new editors. I'm sure I speak for the membership at large when I wish all three editors, past and present, all the best. In response to the concerns expressed by ChLA Board Directors and members alike, the Children's Literature Association Publications Committee decided at its winter meeting to change format and publishers for the Quarterly. In its new form, the Quarterly will have a new design, more graphics, a shorter publication turn around schedule, and more timely ChLA news for our members. The Quarterly will be in your hands at regular intervals, and will begin to include refereed articles as well as the special topic section. We hope to retain the best of the old format while beginning a successful venture as a scholarly journal. We encourage the submission of articles on any aspect of the scholarship and criticism of children's literature to our editors. Please let the editors know what you think about our new image and focus. One of the four issues of the Quarterly will now contain The Proceedings. This will allow the association to continue to print an otherwise costly endeavor for its members. The Proceedings will continue to be edited by Professor Priscilla Ord. Your publications are an important part of your association. They are supported, in the main, by your membership. May I take this opportunity to ask those of you who have not done so to renew your ChLA membership? Your support is essential if high-quality publications like this are to continue.
