Veinticinco años de la Facultad de Derecho y Ciencias Políticas de la Universidad de Ibagué

Fue en 1994 que un grupo de abogados le propuso a la Corporación Universitaria de Ibagué, hoy Universidad de Ibagué, la creación de un Programa de Derecho. Al celebrar los veinticinco años de existencia de la Facultad de Derecho y Ciencias Políticas, la revista Dos mil tres mil presenta una reseña de su quehacer académico en la voz del Dr. Hernando A. Hernández Quintero, decano de la facultad. Las expectativas, el arduo periodo de consolidación y los logros alcanzados hacen parte de esta reseña.

VI Congress on Innovation and Appropriation of the Technologies of Information and Communications

The International Congress on Innovation and Appropriation of the Technologies of Information and Communications (CIATIC) is an initiative of the Network of Computer Engineering and Related Programs of North-Eastern Colombia. Accordingly, the CIATIC is a space for promoting and developing innovation and appropriation of information and communication technologies by facilitating the exchange and transfer of knowledge through the presentation of research advances in technological trends, as well as allowing the creation of collaborative networks to generate research and innovation in the field.The sixth version of the International Congress on Innovation and Appropriation of the Technologies of Information and Communications (VI CIATIC) was held in the municipality of Ocaña, in the department of Norte de Santander, Colombia, on 25-27 September 2019. The “Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander, Seccional Ocaña”, Colombia, hosted the event. The universities that participated in 2019 as co-organizers of the Congress and are part of the Northeast region were: Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (UPB), headquarter Bucaramanga, Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga (UNAB), Universidad Popular del Cesar (UPC), headquarter Aguachica, Fundación Universitaria de San Gil (UNISANGIL), and the Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander (UFPS), headquarters San José de Cúcuta and Ocaña. The participation of the universities, contributed to the internationalization, with the participation of professors and researchers from different countries of the American and European continent, such as, Mexico, United States, Ecuador, Sweden, Venezuela, Chile, and of course, Colombia, which allowed strengthening the research processes and know the different current trends on information and communication technologies.List of Organizing Committee, International Scientific Committee, National Scientific Committee and Sponsors are available in this pdf.

Benefits of mindfulness-based symptoms for the treatment of anxious symptoms in children and adolescents: Meta-analysis

Anxiety refers to the state of agitation in the face of the anticipation of a threat, that is, of a dangerous situation, which gives rise to an emotional response, which encompasses both the cognitive level, as well as the emotional, physiological and/or motor level. The aim of this work is to identify the relationship between the benefits of mindfulness and its influence on anxiety scores in children and adolescents. After conducting a search of scientific articles published since the creation of the different databases, until august 2019, being the databases used Web of Science, PsycINFO, PsycArticles, Scopus, CSIC, Psicodoc, and PubMed, were obtained a total of 2025 articles of a scientific nature that, after applying the established inclusion criteria, left seven articles for review. Their results show the influence exerted by intervention programs, in this case, mindfulness (MBI). In this sense, the results suggest that when they carry out full-awareness intervention techniques, it is related to a reduction in anxiety scores and, consequently, to the presence of greater personal well-being. © 2020 Sociedad Universitaria de Investigacion en Psicologia y Salud.

Caracterización y cualificación de las actas de aprendizaje del componente electivo de la Fundación Universitaria de Ciencias de la Salud (FUCS)

El presente artículo de investigación es de tipo descriptivo, la metodología utilizada fue análisis de contenido y revisión documental, se centró en la caracterización de 23 actas de aprendizaje o syllabus del componente electivo correspondiente a las asignaturas electivas ofertadas para los programas de pregrado de la Fundación Universitaria de Ciencias de la Salud (FUCS), en el periodo 2017-1 y se realizó con el propósito de cualificar la gestión curricular de las actas de aprendizaje, puesto que en ellas, se hacen explícitas las intencionalidades pedagógicas y didácticas que orientan los procesos de enseñanza-aprendizaje y por lo tanto se convierten en garantes de la calidad educativa en los programas ofertados. Una vez identificados los focos problémicos de la gestión curricular de las actas de aprendizaje, se propone un instrumento orientador para docentes y directivos que permita su creación y cualificación, conforme al modelo constructivista de la institución y a las políticas del Proyecto Educativo Institucional (PEI).

CONOCIMIENTO, FACTORES CONDICIONANTES Y CARACTERÍSTICAS DE AUTOMEDICACIÓN EN ESTUDIANTES DE ENFERMERÍA Y MEDICINA


 
 
 La automedicación es una práctica de denominación moral subjetiva muy frecuente en los pacientes ambulatorios, en la cual estos optan por adquirir medicamentos sin prescripción médica para el alivio de dolencias, frecuentemente consideradas de baja severidad. Objetivo: Determinar el conocimiento, factores condicionantes y características de automedicación en los estudiantes de las carreras enfermería y medicina de la Escue- la Universitaria de Ciencias de la Salud de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Hondu- ras en el Valle de Sula (EUCS/UNAH-VS) en el primer semestre del 2017. Pacientes y Métodos: Estudio cuantitativo, alcance des- criptivo, transversal, prospectivo, realizado en estudiantes de la carrera de enfermería y medicina de la EUCS/UNAH-VS que cursa- ban el 2do y 3er año el primer semestre del 2017. La muestra fue no probabilística por conveniencia de 55 estudiantes pertene- cientes a cada carrera, en total 110. Resultados: Se encontró que 50 (90.9%) estudiantes de enfermería y 49 (89.09%) de medicina admitieron automedicarse. La mayoría no conocen las indicaciones y/o efectos adversos de los fármacos utilizados para automedicarse. El 45.45% (25) de enfermería y 63.63% (35) ignoran la dosificación. Un 67.27% (37) de enfermería y 61.8% (34) de medicina desconocen los efectos adversos de las dosificaciones excesivas. La principal causa de automedicación fue la consideración de malestares como no graves, siendo manejados en casa. Conclusión: La mayoría de los estudiantes de ambas carreras desconocen sobre indicaciones, efectos adversos y dosificación de los medicamentos y los toman considerando los malestares no graves y no por los efectos que el medicamento pueda causarles. El principal síntoma que presentaron es la cefalea y el medicamento que más consumían fué el acetaminofen.
 
 
 

Identification of Preoperative Language Tracts for Intrinsic Frontotemporal Diseases: A Pilot Reconstruction Algorithm in a Middle-Income Country

Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) tractography provides useful information that can be used to optimize surgical planning and help avoid injury during subcortical dissection of eloquent tracts. The objective is to provide a safe, timely, and affordable algorithm for preoperative DTI language reconstruction for intrinsic frontotemporal diseases. We reviewed a prospectively acquired database of preoperative DTI reconstruction for resection of left frontotemporal lesions over 3 years at Hospital de San José and Hospital Infantil Universitario San José, Fundación Universitaria de Ciencias de la Salud, Bogota, Colombia. Preoperative and postoperative clinical and radiographic features were determined from retrospective chart review. A comprehensive review of the structural and functional anatomy of the language tracts was performed. Separate reconstruction of both ventral (semantic) and dorsal (phonologic) stream pathways is described: arcuate fasciculus, superior longitudinal fasciculus, inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus, uncinate fasciculus, and inferior longitudinal fasciculus. Between January 2015 and January 2018, 44 tumor cases were found to be resected with preoperative fiber tracking planning and neuronavigation-guided surgery. Ten patients (7 women, 3 men) aged 28-65 years underwent resection of an intrinsic frontotemporal lesion with preoperative DTI tractography reconstruction of language tracts. Eight cases (80%) were high-grade gliomas and 2 (20%) were cavernous malformations. In 5 cases (50%), the lesion was in the frontal lobe and in 5 (50%), it was in the temporal lobe. The extent of resection was classified as gross total resection (100%), subtotal resection (>90%), or partial resection (<90%). Gross total resection was achieved in 5 cases (50%), subtotal resection was achieved in 4 cases (40%), and partial resection in the remaining case (10%). Compromised tracts included superior longitudinal fasciculus in 7 (70%), inferior longitudinal fasciculus in 4 (40%), the arcuate fasciculus in3(30%), and uncinate fasciculus in 1 (10%). Language function was unchanged or improved in 90% of patients. New-onset postoperative language decline occurred in 1 patient, who recovered transient phonemic paraphasias 1month after resection. The mean follow-up time was 7 months (range, 4-12 months). Residual tumors were treated with radiation and/or with chemotherapy as indicated in an outpatient setting. We present a safe and efficacious preoperative DTI language reconstruction algorithm that could be used as a feasible treatment strategy in a challenging subset of tumors in low- to middle-income countries.

Trastornos hipertensivos en el embarazo con infección urinaria

Objetivo: determinar la incidencia de los trastornos hipertensivos del embarazo en pacientes con infección del tracto urinario (ITU) en los Hospitales de San José e Infantil Universitario de San José, Bogotá, Colombia, en 2015. Materiales y métodos: cohorte de embarazadas que asistieron a urgencias con ITU que requirieron tratamiento intrahospitalario y seguimiento para establecer la ocurrencia de trastornos hipertensivos. La frecuencia de estos se describe sobre la base de incidencias acumuladas, así como en términos de la incidencia en cada nivel individual de gravedad de la ITU. Resultados: 138 embarazadas cumplieron con los criterios requeridos, edad media de 25 años (RIQ: 21-29), 42% cursaban el primer embarazo. El germen más aislado fue Escherichia coli. La incidencia de trastornos hipertensivos fue 21,7%. El trastorno más frecuente fue la preeclampsia y el tipo de ITU que más se presentó fue bacteriuria asintomática (35.5%). Conclusión: la ocurrencia de trastornos hipertensivos en embarazadas con infección del tracto urinario fue de 21,7%. Es importante investigar las infecciones del tracto urinario durante el embarazo como posibles factores generadores de preeclampsia.

Principios de Tractografía Cerebral

Objetivo: hacer una revisión de los principales tractos cerebrales y sus aplicaciones en las neurociencias a partir de la experiencia en la Fundación Universitaria de Ciencias de la Salud (FUCS), Bogotá D.C., Colombia. Materiales y métodos: revisión bibliográfica y utilización de imágenes con resonadores de 1.5 T o 3 T para describir las imágenes de tractografía en enfermedades del sistema nervioso central. Resultados: se muestran las características principales de la tractografía basados en casos de nuestra institución. Discusión: en la gran mayoría de patologías cerebrales no hay estudios sobre la utilidad de la tractografía. Aunque es un estudio disponible en la actualidad, es poca la información que suele obtenerse a nivel clínico, pues toma bastante tiempo el posproceso de las imágenes y en la mayoría de centros no está protocolizada la secuencia de obtención de la reconstrucción de cada uno de los tractos por separado. Conclusiones: es posible reconstruir los principales tractos cerebrales con escáneres de 1.5 T y 3 T, identificando las vías clave del cerebro y su relación con tumores cerebrales, trauma craneoencefálico, abuso de sustancias y otras afecciones.

TIEMPO Y NATURALEZA DE USO DEL MÓVIL EN ESTUDIANTES DE LA CARRERA DE MEDICINA

&#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D; Antecedentes: Diversas investigaciones se realizan sobre el tiempo y naturaleza de uso del móvil en estudiantes universitarios pero escasas en el área de la medicina en el siglo de la tecnología. Objetivo: Establecer el tiempo y naturaleza de uso del teléfono móvil en estudiantes de cuarto año de medicina de cuarto año A en la Escuela Universitaria de Ciencias de la Salud de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras en el Valle de Sula (EUCS/UNAH-VS) en el primer semestre académico del 2017. Pacientes y Métodos: Estudio exploratorio-descriptivo. Población fue de 78, muestra no probabilística por conveniencia de 38 estudiantes, instrumento de recolección de datos se realizó a través del programa App Usage® que generó los resultados, se evaluaron los datos de frecuencias, porcentajes y medidas de tendencia central en Excel®. Resultados: Los datos reflejaron que el tiempo promedio de uso del móvil por los estudiantes fue de 5 horas 9 minutos (21.5%) del día. El uso se centró en aplicaciones móviles reactivas (distractor) con 4 horas 47 minutos (93%) y en aplicaciones móviles proactivas solo 22 minutos (7%). Conclusiones: Los datos de esta investigación indican que el patrón de uso del teléfono móvil es del 21.5% al día y la naturaleza del uso de los teléfonos celulares por parte del estudiante de Medicina de cuarto año A de la UNAH-VS es de carácter reactivo o sea como distractor&#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D; Palabras clave&#x0D; Aplicaciones Móviles, Estudiantes de medicina, Teléfonos celulares&#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D;

CONSUMO DE ALCOHOL ENTRE ESTUDIANTES DE MEDICINA QUE CURSAN ASIGNATURAS DE FARMACOLOGIA I Y II

&#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D; Antecedentes: El alcohol es considerada una droga que tiene repercusión negativa en la vida del individuo consumidor activo o no. El consumo de alcohol es multifactorial y preocupa en jóvenes universitarios por ser una droga de fácil acceso, barato y con menos estigma a nivel social. Objetivo: Describir y comparar el consumo de alcohol en estudiantes de medicina hombres y mujeres que cursan las asignaturas de Farmacología I y II el primer semestre del año 2017 en la Escuela Universitaria de Ciencias de la Salud en la Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Honduras en el Valle de Sula (EUCS/ UNAH-VS). Pacientes y métodos: Estudio cuantitativo, alcance descriptivo. Población: muestra por conveniencia de 56 estudiantes (28 mujeres y 28 hombres). Se utilizó un instrumento tipo cuestionario para la recolección de datos, previo consentimiento informado. Resultados: El 73%. (41) consumía alcohol. Los resultados revelaron mayor consumo en mujeres 43% (24) que en hombres 30% (17). Un 36.7% (20) refiere la ingesta de alcohol en vacaciones y 26.8% (15) después de exámenes. Un 98% (55) conocían de los efectos nocivos del alcohol. Conclusiones: El consumo de alcohol es una práctica en los jóvenes universitarios de las asignaturas de Farmacología I y II. Un alto porcentaje de los estudiantes partícipes de éste estudio ha consumido alcohol, la mayoría lo hace ocasionalmente. El consumo es mayor por parte de las mujeres. La sustancia más consumida es la cerveza (ambos sexos). Does penicillin allergic patients present higher implant failure rate?

Background One of the most common factors for early dental implant failure is infection, thereby, prophylactic and postoperative antibiotic regimens have been proposed. The American Dental Association (ADA) have recommended oral amoxicillin in high-risk patients, however, many surgeons prescribe them routinely. Consequently, the level of penicillin allergies has risen. Clindamycin has been proposed for allergic patients, although few studies assess implant failure rate in these conditions. Aim/Hypothesis To determinate if patients allergic to penicillin have a higher incidence of dental implant failure compared with non-allergic patients. Material and Methods This cross-sectional clinical study consisted in the analysis of patients treated with dental implants from 2011 to 2015, at the Clínica Universitaria de Odontología (CUO), School of Dentistry of the UIC, by postgraduate students. 2 g of amoxicillin were taken orally 1 hour before the surgery, and 600 mg of clindamycin for penicillin-allergic patients. Prescribed antibiotics were amoxicillin 750 mg three times per day and 300 mg clindamycin every 6 hours in penicillin-allergic patients, both for one week. Implant failure was defined as the removal of the implant for any reason, and were classified as early or late failures. Results A total of 1210 patient's files were analyzed. From the 1133 non-penicillin allergic patients, 91 (8.03%) presented at least one implant failure, for the 77 penicillin-allergic patients, 19 patients presented at least on implant failure (24.68%). After the analysis of the relationship between the variables, 1 out 12 (8%) of not penicillin allergic patients, and 1 out 4 (25%) of penicillin allergic patients present a dental implant failure, respectively. The implant failure rate between the two groups was significantly higher for penicillin-allergic patients group. The penicillin-allergic patients demonstrated a greater risk for implant failure with an RR of 3.84 (95% CI) when compared with patients without penicillin allergy. Conclusions and Clinical Implications Within the limitations of the present retrospective study, penicillin-allergic patients treated with clindamycin have almost four times more risk to have a dental implant failure, compared with non-penicillin allergic patients. However, other variables such implant brand, location, surgeon skills must be taken into consideration. Further studies should focus on clarify antibiotic guidelines to improve implant success.

Patrimonio moderno, ciudad contemporánea: Ciudad universitaria de Caracas

La Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas, sitio del Patrimonio Mundial, representa múltiples valores: ser obra maestra del genio creador, producto del arquitecto Carlos Raúl Villanueva junto con un equipo de profesionales y artistas de vanguardia, y por representar una época de la historia de la arquitectura, en un conjunto donde se expresan de manera sobresaliente los postulados del Movimiento Moderno, rescatando a la vez conceptos de la arquitectura tradicional venezolana. No pretendemos analizar sus valores o detallar las etapas de su construcción, tarea que otros han desarrollado de manera idónea. Nuestro objetivo es explicar brevemente los principales problemas que enfrenta su preservación, bajo la óptica del arquitecto restaurador actuando dentro del órgano gestor del sitio. Llevar adelante la conservación de un patrimonio no es tarea sencilla, más aún cuando observamos que, a sesenta años de su inauguración, se hace cada vez más evidente que es un reflejo fiel del país que tenemos, con sus bondades y sus conflictos. No obstante esta situación, avanzamos hacia el conocimiento, conservación y valorización del sitio patrimonial.

Comprensión y producción de textos escritos en instituciones de educación superior

Se presentan los resultados obtenidos en una investigación entre el Instituto Tecnológico Metropolitano (ITM, Medellín-Antioquia) y la Institución Universitaria de Envigado (IUE, Envigado-Antioquia), cuyo objetivo fue determinar y describir el nivel de lectura y escritura con el que ingresan los estudiantes a los programas del ITM. Para ello, se hizo una intervención en un grupo experimental, desde la lingüística textual y la lectura crítica. De igual forma, se contó con un grupo control conformado por estudiantes de cuatro cursos de Lengua Materna, seleccionados al azar. Tanto a los participantes del grupo experimental como control, se les realizaron pruebas de entrada como de salida, con el ánimo de conocer los niveles de literacidad con que ingresan y con los que salen. Con respecto a los resultados, en el grupo experimental se obtuvieron resultados superiores en cohesión, coherencia, marcadores discursivos, lectura crítica y estructura textual, en comparación a los obtenidos por el grupo control, permitiendo el desarrollo de mayores niveles de calidad en la producción textual, demostrando apropiación no solo conceptual sino también práctica de la lingüística textual, aunque las dimensiones valorativa y sociocultural en la lectura crítica siguen siendo un aspecto por mejorar en los resultados.

Control of cardiovascular risk factors in type 2 diabetes in a specialized diabetic clinic

Achieving an adequate control of glycaemic and cardiovascular risk factors (CVRFs) is essential in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, several studies have shown that the percentage of patients achieving these goals is scarce. We evaluated the degree of control of CVRFs target goals in T2DM patients who regularly attend a specialized diabetic clinic. We studied T2DM patients who attended the specialized Diabetic Unit at the Department of Endocrinology of Clínica Universitaria de Navarra with a minimum follow-up of one year. Clinical characteristics, chronic complications and treatments were collected and patients were classified into groups according to the fulfilment of target glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c), LDL cholesterol and blood pressure (BP) levels, predefined according to the presence of different comorbidities and the duration of T2DM. We analysed 137 patients (75% men) with T2DM, with an average age of 67 years and a 12.7 year duration of diabetes. During follow-up, 83.9% of the patients were within the individualized HbA1c target, 76.6% considering BP and 67.2% in terms of LDL-cholesterol. In addition, 68% had concomitantly the three main variables within the target. In our population of T2DM, HbA1c, LDL cholesterol and BP targets were achieved in a substantial proportion of patients (67-91%). Perhaps the intense and individualized care offered through a specialized diabetes unit may explain these results.

Beatriz Paredes: presencia mexicana en Brasil

On 23 May, 2017, in Ciudad Universitaria de São Paulo, the Mexican sociologist, politician and diplomat, Beatriz Paredes, granted an interview to theem Journal of Revista de Estudios Brasileños. Conducted by Prof. Pedro Dallari, Director of the Institute for International Relations (IRI) of the University of São Paulo (USP), the interview allowed this notable social leader to reflect upon a wide variety of topics, which she did with great propriety. Until recently Mexico’s Ambassador to Brazil, Beatriz Paredes directed in 2017 the activities of the José Bonifacio Chair, devoted to Latin American Studies, at the behest of USP, her predecessor as Chair having been the Spanish statesman, Felipe González. In the interview she broaches her work at the University, which is focused on the coordination of the research group devoted to the history and current situation of the indigenous peoples of Latin America. However, going beyond the strictly academic topics, Beatriz Paredes responds to questions about the political situation in Latin America, about Mexico, Brazil and the current relations between them, as well as about the relations between Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. NEW ICT LITERACIES AND HOLISTIC APPROACHES FOR THE EFFECTIVE LEARNING OF LANGUAGES IN TERTIARY EDUCATION

Abstract:This paper summarizes the evolution of different subjects of English for Specic Purposes and English for Academic and Professional Purposes. The aim here is to show a continuum of changes that have not started and nished in one subject alone but affect the whole curriculum. After the discussion section where advantages and drawbacks of the changes introduced are analyzed, we arrive at some conclusions regarding this ve year period of development in the approach to the teaching and learning of the specic or academic English language in the Escuela Universitaria de Ingeniería Técnica de Telecomunicación, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.Keywords: Teaching and learning of English, English for Specic Purposes, English for Academic and Professional Purposes, University levels.Title in Spanish: La competencia en TIC y los enfoques holísticos aplicados al aprendizaje de lenguas en el nivel universitario.Resumen:Este trabajo resume la evolución que han experimentado distintas asignaturas de Inglés para Fines Especícos e Inglés para Fines Académicos y Profesionales. El objetivo principal es mostrar cómo el esfuerzo por mejorar las asignaturas afecta al currículo como un todo y no sólo a cada una de las asignaturas. Residentes como docentes en la Fundación Universitaria de Ciencias de la Salud (FUCS), proyecto de residentes formadores

IntroductionSince its foundation San José Hospital in Bogotá has had a teaching vocation and currently is an accredited university hospital and a leading teaching institution. This fact, along with the results of studies developed in various countries, requires the University Foundation of Health Sciences (Fundación Universitaria de Ciencias de la Salud) (FUCS) and the San José Hospital to create innovative programs focused on promoting teaching among residents. ObjectiveTo determine the perception residents have on their role as teachers of other residents, interns and medical students, as well as, the knowledge they have gained from fellow residents. Materials and MethodsThis study is based on the survey used by the Sánchez-Mendiola et al. study which was modified for our setting. The amount of time a resident considers he spends teaching and how much of their knowledge comes from other residents, is assessed, as well as, the academic requirements and the preferred educational strategies needed to become proficient in teaching. ResultsResidents perceive that 47.72% of their knowledge comes from other residents; they identify lack of time and excessive work burden as the main obstacles for receiving training to enhance teaching skills, but they are aware of the importance their role as teachers represent and would invest an average of 5.3 hours a week to undertake training to teach. ConclusionResidents of the Fundación Universitaria de Ciencias de la Salud are aware of their role as teachers and are willing to dedicate some of their time to learning how to teach.

Personality Profile of a Group of Cytol-Histotechnology Students.

By 2012, the National Ministry of Education in Colombia recognized 286 Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs) in the country that offered technical and technological programs. The quality of technicians, technologists, and other professionals is directly related to their performance during secondary and tertiary education. The aim of this paper is to describe the personality profile and academic performance of a group of Cytology and Histology students at a Health Sciences institution of higher education. We performed a descriptive study that included first to third semester students in the Department of Cytology and Histology. We measured socio-demographic variables related to academic achievement and the Gordon Personal Profile-Inventory (GPP-I) test results. This study was approved by the Ethics for Research on Humans Committee at the Fundacion Universitaria de Ciencias de la Salud. We analyzed 53 Cytology and Histology students. The average age was 18 years old (IQR 18-21), and the gender distribution was 88.4% female (46/53). The initial grade mean was 3.5 (IQR: 3.3-3.8), with 5 being the maximum in the Colombian grading system, and the mid-career grade was 3.7 (IQR: 3.6-4). We explored the relationship between the place of residence before starting the program, the result of the National Test for Graduates in Colombia (ICFES-SABERPro, comparable to the American SAT), and the academic performance of students. We observed a significant correlation among these variables. Despite there being a number of university departments in the field in Colombia, Cytology/Histology is a poorly known profession, and the skills and abilities together with its range of tasks in the labor market are unknown. Concerning academic performance and its correlation with the GPP-I domains, we observed that there was a direct relationship between starting grade point average and original thinking.
