Performance de crescimento de diferentes linhagens de tilápia-do-nilo, Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus, 1757), em gaiolas

The aim of this study was to verify the growth performance of different strains of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus , in individual cages installed in the laboratory of Universidade Estadual de Londrina (Parana, Brazil). The strain from Thailand, the local strain of the northern Parana and their hybrid (Thailand male x local female) were studied. The experiment was carried out in 36 individual cages with controlled water quality and water temperature. The initial weight was 37.20  4.83; 35.05  3.56 and 35.52  4.19g for Thailand, hybrid and local strains respectively. At the end of the experiment the weights were 64.08  12.16; 53.36  10.08 and 52.73  7.92g for the same previous sequence. The condition factor (Kn) estimated for the different strains showed no difference (p>0.05). Primer software was used for variance analysis and for Student Newman Keuls test. The Thailand strain presented the best growth performance (p>0.05), but no significant difference was found between local and hybrid strains.

Performance of food-type soybean genotypes and their possibility for adaptation to Brazilian latitudes

This work was conducted at the Universidade Estadual de Londrina (UEL), in Londrina, State of Paraná, Brazil, with the goal to study food-type soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) genotypes performance for use in cultivation or crosses. A total of 104 genotypes were analyzed: 88 were food-type with large seeds, eight were food-type with small seeds, and eight-grain types adapted cultivars. The experimental plan was in randomized complete block design with four replications, and 12 traits of agronomic importance were considered. Genetic diversity was observed in the food-type germplasm. There were some genotypes with high yield adapted to a normal period of sowing. Soybean genetic improvement programs for direct human consumption in Brazil, either by means of Asiatic pure lines or by means of the incorporation of genes for late flowering in short-day conditions in this lines is highly viable.

Avaliação de uma experiência com o ensino de habilidades clínicas para alunos do primeiro ano de psicologia

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a experiência realizada descrevendo os efeitos do Projeto proposto sobre os alunos participantes. Avaliou-se o impacto da experiência sobre a formação dos alunos e a utilidade do modelo proposto para aprendizagem de habilidades clínicas relevantes à atuação como psicólogo. Participaram desta experiência 17 alunos do primeiro ano do curso de Psicologia da Universidade Estadual de Londrina (UEL). A realização do Projeto constou de três fases: 1) Preparação e Planejamento; 2) Realização e Acompanhamento; 3) Avaliação da Experiência por alunos e supervisores. Os resultados mostraram que o Projeto, tal como foi desenvolvido, teve efeitos positivos para a formação dos alunos em vários aspectos, principalmente sobre o crescimento pessoal. Como a formação profissional do psicólogo não é algo diferente de sua formação pessoal e que ambos os repertórios (pessoal e profissional) estão em estreita relação, o impacto dessa experiência sobre a visão de homem e de mundo dos alunos e as mudanças de postura e atitudes daí decorrentes pareceram ser as contribuições mais importantes desta experiência para sua formação profissional.

Análise comparada da riqueza de anuros entre duas áreas com diferentes estados de conservação no município de Londrina, Paraná, Brasil (Amphibia, Anura)

This study provides a list of anurans occuring in Londrina Municipality, north of Parana, and analyses the difference in species richness between one well preserved forest area (Parque Estadual Mata dos Godoy) and another, altered area (Estacao de Piscicultura da Universidade Estadual de Londrina). The greatest number of species was in the preserved area (24 species) when compared to the altered one (14 species). The occurence of true forest species (stenoics), such Crossodactylus sp., Eleutherodactylus binotatus, E. guentheri, and Hyalinobatrachium uranoscopum, only in the Parque Estadual Mata dos Godoy shows the conservation leveis of areas and put in evidence the anurans as biological indicators of environmental quality. New registers for Parana State were the following species: H. uranoscopum, P. avelinoi and Scinax perereca.

Seropositivity for anti-trypanosoma cruzi antibodies among blood donors of the "Hospital Universitário Regional do Norte do Paraná", Londrina, Brazil.

The most frequent form of acquisition of Chagas' disease in endemic areas was the transmission through the feces of contaminated triatominae. However, special attention should be paid in urban areas to transmission by blood transfusion, justifying the compulsory screening of blood donors. Early investigations at blood banks in the town of Londrina, Brazil, demonstrated that the seroprevalence of anti-Trypanosoma cruzi antibodies among blood donors was approximately 7.0% in the fifties. Further studies demonstrated practically the same seroprevalence until the eighties. In an attempt to obtain data about the real dimension of the seropositivity for anti-Trypanosoma cruzi antibodies in the region, the authors carried out a large-scale study on 45,774 serum samples from blood donors of the Hemocentro of Hospital Univesitário Regional do Norte do Paraná (HURNP), Universidade Estadual de Londrina. The immunological tests were done at the Division of Clinical Immunology of HURNP from May 1990 to December 1994. The serum samples were studied by the indirect hemagglutination assay (IHA, using kits commercially obtained from EBRAM) and by indirect immunofluorescence (IFI, using kits from LIO SERUM) with anti-human IgG conjugate (LABORCLIN). The results demonstrated that 643 serum samples were positive in both assay corresponding to a seroprevalence of 1.4%, i.e., a significant decrease in anti-Trypanosoma cruzi antibodies in the region in comparison with the previously mentioned rates. Data correlating sex and age of seropositive blood donors are presented, as well as the possible factors that may have contributed to the results observed.

Avaliação da utilização de feijão guandu cru moído (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp) sobre os índices indiretos de produtividade de frangos de corte

The experiment was carried out at Universidade Estadual de Londrina, Paraná, with the objective of evaluating the effects of the utilization of raw pigeon pea ground (RPPG) variety IAPAR 43-Aratã, in the ration, on the productive indirect index of broilers at period 1 (1-28 days) and its influence on the period 2(29-45 days) and also on the total period (TP= 1-45 days). 270 chicks of Arbor Acres line were used, located in metalic batteries, consisting of 6 treatments repeated 3 times in randomized blocks, each experimental unit consisting of 15 chicks. The levels of RPPG tested were 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50% in rations. All the rations were formulated to contain 20.1% of crude protein (CP) and 2910 kcal of metabolizable energy (ME)/kg. In the period 2 (P2) all the chicks of the treatments of period 1 received only commercial ration containing 19% of CP. The studied characteristics were, mean body weight (MBW), viability (V), daily mean weight gain (DMWG), production per unit of area (PUA) and productive efficiency index (PEI). Participaram deste estudo 24 enfermeiros, formados no período de 1980 a 1986, pelo Departamento de Enfermagem do Centro de Ciências da Saúde da Universidade Estadual de Londrina. Procurou-se verificar a opinião dos enfermeiros sobre o ensino do processo de enfermagem e sugestões para adequação do mesmo à prática profissional.

The study involved a significant sample of dentists of the city of Londrina which were interviewed with the help of a questionnaire that, among some other itens, inquired about the objective of the training and the usefulness of the dental auxiliaries in Odontology. The questionnaire also collected material for the improvement of the program of a Formation Especial Course for Dental Auxiliaries of the Fundação Universidade Estadual de Londrina. The interviewed dentists seemed to agree with the fact of having dental auxiliaries in offices as well as with the formation of these auxiliaries through especiftc courses.
