Ethical standards of judge’s activity: concept and role. – Article.The Article analyses the content of the concept “ethical standards of judge’s activity”, being importantfor the science of judiciary and examines their role.It was concluded that ethical standards of judge’s activity serve as the universal firmly establishedreference points, ideas, convictions, which crystallized from public morals and were specified by theprofessional environment. They “sprout up” from the person’s individual ideas about public morals andstatus, – the judges. They create a unified space, where the conduct of the representatives of the judicialcommunity is governed, taking into consideration the historically established convictions about the senseand ideals of the system of justice, promoting and motivating the judges to choose the best model of theirconduct, taking into account certain circumstances and situations, in which a judge finds himself.It was established that the role of ethical standards in judge’s activity is determined by the ternary ofsubjects, which define it, taking into consideration personal needs and tasks:1) they are directed to the judges, giving them guidance in professional and non-professional activitydetermining to some extent of abstractedness a model of a desirable or required conduct. Therefore, theyexercise an instructive and indicative roles with regard to judges, as well as a preventive role;2) they are designated for the judicial bodies as the rules governing the judges’ conduct, therefore, theyperform the role of a controller, through the prism of which a specific situation shall be analysed, in whichthe judge finds himself in his activity;3) they are addressed to the public giving its numerous members an idea of the “perfect” figure of thejudge, his/her conduct and the judiciary in the state, as a whole. Therefore, they also play an informationand image-building role.As a conclusion, it was offered to determine ethical standards of judges’ activity (standards of thejudicial ethics) as a system of universal regulations, values, rules and formulas, guiding judges in choosinga model of their conduct in the specific circumstances, taking into consideration their personal ideas aboutmorals, ethics of the judicial activity, ideals of justice and significance of the judge’s professional statusin the society.value of the system of justice, its spiritual potential to development and self-limitation, converting tothe system of values, which acquire the status of the rules for a social group differing by its professional
