This research aims to investigate the influence of globalization on the education system and the exchange of ideas, values, and traditions in schools and universities. The study explores the role of international education programs, cross-cultural exchanges, and multicultural curricula in promoting cultural understanding and global citizenship. To begin, the research examines how globalization has transformed the education system. With the advent of technology and the ease of travel, students have greater access to educational opportunities worldwide. International education programs, such as student exchange programs and study abroad initiatives, have become increasingly popular, enabling students to experience different cultures firsthand. Multiculturalism in the curriculum: a comparative analysis of the Finnish, Irish and Hungarian national core curricula

Purpose One key aspect of European curriculum reforms is to empower students with the skills needed to engage actively in the pluralistic and multicultural global society of the 21st century. This study aims to examine the extent of multicultural education within the national core curricula of three European countries: Hungary, Finland and Ireland, focusing on its role in fostering social acceptance through education. Design/methodology/approach A qualitative research applying discourse analysis was conducted to identify key multiculturalism concepts within the curricula. The analysis concentrated on understanding how multiculturalism is portrayed through various perspectives, emphasizing situational meanings and frameworks. Furthermore, a comparative analysis of the findings was carried out. Findings The research found that all three curricula contain the concept of multicultural education, although the extent of emphasis varies. The Hungarian National Core Curriculum (NCC) primarily emphasizes national values and sporadically addresses multicultural issues, often from a local perspective. In contrast, the Irish NCC is tolerance-oriented, stressing not only the understanding of different cultures but also the importance of accepting them. The Finnish NCC reflects a global perspective and emphasizes respect for different cultures and minority groups, with a pluralistic approach. Originality/value This study enhances our understanding of the discourse of multiculturalism within the curricula of three European countries, emphasizing both their similarities and differences. Additionally, it underscores the crucial role that curricula can play in effectively implementing multicultural education.

In the context of today’s global society, the growing interest in the study of intercultural communication occurs due to several factors some of which are intensive migration and expansion of cultural values. Global processes, on the one hand, bring peoples and cultures together in a single civilizational space, but, on the other hand, blur traditional socio-cultural identities. Therefore, the issues of intercultural communication, dialogue and mutual understanding of different cultures’ representatives acquire a special urgency in the modern world and society.

Effects of Cultural Diversity and Intercultural Communication on the Quality of Service and Customer Satisfaction in Hospitality and Tourism Settings in Brazil

Purpose: The study sought to analyze the effects of cultural diversity and intercultural communication on the quality of service and customer satisfaction in hospitality and tourism settings.
 Methodology: The study adopted a desktop methodology. Desk research refers to secondary data or that which can be collected without fieldwork. Desk research is basically involved in collecting data from existing resources hence it is often considered a low cost technique as compared to field research, as the main cost is involved in executive’s time, telephone charges and directories. Thus, the study relied on already published studies, reports and statistics. This secondary data was easily accessed through the online journals and library.
 Findings: Cultural diversity in Brazil's hospitality and tourism sector enriches customer experiences despite communication challenges. Effective strategies like language training and cultural sensitivity programs improve service quality, fostering an inclusive environment and personalized service. Investing in staff cultural competence training provides a competitive edge, attracting diverse clientele and ensuring customer satisfaction and loyalty.
 Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Cultural intelligence theory (CQ), Social identity theory & Communication accommodation theory (CAT) may be used to anchor future studies in the effects of cultural diversity and intercultural communication on the quality of service and customer satisfaction in hospitality and tourism settings. Implement cultural awareness training programs for hospitality and tourism staff to enhance their understanding of different cultures, communication styles, and customer preferences. Advocate for the development of industry-wide standards and guidelines for promoting cultural diversity and intercultural communication in hospitality and tourism settings.

A Data Mining-Based Approach to Managing Intercultural Teaching Activities in Online Classrooms

Driven by globalization and technological advances, online education is coming into its own form, opening a window for students to learn across cultural boundaries. In such a context, the intercultural teaching activities in online classrooms are particularly important, as they provide students with a good opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of different cultures and merge into different backgrounds. However, most of the currently available methods of intercultural teaching activity management focus on conventional education modes or strategies, and there isn’t a deep enough analysis about the features of network environment. Aiming at these matters, this study gave an in-depth discussion on the current status of the management of intercultural teaching in online classrooms, and introduced the technology of data mining to propose a more comprehensive and systematic solution for educational issues caused by cultural differences.

Empowering Students against Ethnic Bullying: Review and Recommendations of Innovative School Programs.

Despite research on anti-bullying interventions, there is no systemic approach or resources for teachers to address ethnic and race-related bullying in schools. In this article, we selectively reviewed theories and programs to help teachers identify and address ethnic bullying in their classrooms. We provide recommendations for workshops (e.g., cultural awareness training, empathy-building activities, bystander intervention, and stigma-based intervention). These anti-ethnic bullying workshops should promote understanding of different cultures, strengthen empathy for those who are different, encourage bystanders to take action, and reduce stigma and stereotypes. Through the sharing of diverse perspectives, expertise, and experiences, we hope this article can cultivate interactive dialogues and collaborations between educators and researchers to effectively address ethnic and race-related bullying.

Project Based Learning: Promoting Cross-Cultural Understanding using Android Application at an Indian University in Gujarat

Students in a project-based learning environment get experience with actual, hands-on projects. In this article, we present the experience obtained in a Mobile Application Development course. In addition, available multi-country criteria of this research enable us to investigate probable cross-cultural variances. The purpose of this project was to design and create apps (or simply app) for Android-based devices. The chosen methodology, based on Project-Based Learning, boosted both cooperation and rivalry among students. This research offers the outcomes from a heuristic assessment by students at Indian university in Gujarat for the students of three nations. Total 120 students are recruited for this research from a university in Gujarat. "It was established that a project-based learning approach is an effective and engaging way for translation students to experiment with their translation skills and different translation theories, achieve linguistic and cross-cultural understanding of different cultures while participating actively in various organised learning activities.'' More significantly, they have elevated their intercultural awareness and strengthened their intercultural communication ability. As students engage in this kind of project-based, introspective, and exploratory learning, they grow in their confidence as communicators (both verbally and in writing), their willingness to take intellectual risks, and their awareness of cultural variety. Its educational ramifications are examined.

The findings highlight the potential of folklore-based VR as a powerful tool for immersive and interactive learning while shedding light on the multimodal aspects of the discourse generated through this medium. Educators can enhance the learning experience and foster a deeper understanding of cultural heritage and identity by integrating folklore-based virtual reality as a teaching medium. Moreover, Folklore-based virtual reality can encourage critical thinking skills as students navigate through complex narratives, make decisions, and solve problems within the virtual environment. Furthermore, exposure to diverse folklore stories and characters can promote empathy and understanding of different cultures, fostering a more inclusive and tolerant society. Integrating virtual reality (VR) technology into English education and literary resources presents promising prospects for students to actively interact with books through novel approaches, augmenting their understanding, language proficiency, and general admiration for literature. The piece was written in June 2022 and includes scenes from Melbourne, Australia and Amalfi, Italy. The work explores the nature of memory regarding cuisine and its impact on growth from childhood into adulthood. The piece conveys how, foundationally, the understanding of different cultures can be approached through their interpretation of and appreciation for food. The writer reflects upon his childhood experiences with food and his changing perspectives as his palate develops. The story follows this human growth through a developed maturity of the palate. Replacing a linear timeline, the author’s life is spelled out in a series of courses.

The article presents a comprehensive overview of the current state of visual art education in Kazakhstan, identifying key issues and challenges faced by educators and students alike. Additionally, it offers a thorough analysis of various style directions, techniques, and approaches used in teaching landscape themes in kindergarten and junior high school. The research encompasses both traditional and contemporary methods, highlighting their respective strengths and weaknesses and drawing on best practices from around the world to inform the development of a new, culturally inclusive curriculum. AN ANALYSIS OF CULTURAL FACTORS IN THE ENGLISH TEXTBOOKS FOR JUNIOR MIDDLE SCHOOL IN THE CONTEXT OF THE NEW CURRICULUM STANDARDS

Under the trend of global integration, English, as the most widely used language in the world, is an important carrier of international communication and scientific, technological, and cultural exchanges, and English teaching has also received more attention. English teaching should not only develop students' language skills, but also impart different cultural knowledge, promote students' identification and understanding of different cultures, and effectively communicate with people from different cultural backgrounds. While learning the language, is also learning culture. As an important medium for language learners to learn the language, the selection and application of cultural content in foreign language textbooks have become particularly important. To some extent, it guides the way students think in language and the value orientation of multiculturalism. Therefore, this paper selects the foreign research version of a junior high school English textbook as the research object, attempts to analyze the selection of cultural content in the textbook reading materials, points out the problems in the selection of cultural content in the textbook, and puts forward suggestions for improvement, providing reference basis for the future use and compilation of the textbook.

The influence of cultural differences on marketing strategies of MNEs

In the marketing of multinational enterprises, cultural differences have a complex impact on international marketing strategies. On one hand, taking advantage of cultural differences can diversify the corporate culture. On the other hand, cultural differences make management difficult, and there will be conflicts in mutual exchanges. This paper mainly summarizes the past literature, and connects the problems raised in some earlier studies and the situations solved in subsequent studies in series to make the logic chain more complete. At the same time, new problems are raised on this basis. After reviewing the literature, this work concludes that the multicultural environment is becoming more complex, and managers need to have a deeper understanding of different cultures while calculating the gains and losses, so as to integrate culture. Therefore, the research significance of this paper is to make a complete summary of the existing research results, sort out the unresolved problems, and provide ideas for subsequent related research.

International Teaching Internship: Development of Pre-Service Teachers’ Competences

Teachers’ competences should be shaped from a very early stage of their training (Mâţă, Cmeciu, & Ghiaţău, 2013). For that reason, pre-service teachers are required to get involved in teaching internships and gain professional experience from training programs and workshops. These experiences are assets for these pre-service teachers when they resume teaching positions upon graduation. The present narrative study, therefore, aims to investigate the benefits of international teaching internship, known as South-East Asian Teacher (henceforth SEA-Teacher Program) on Indonesian pre-service English teachers’ identity and competence development. There were four male and four female participants of SEA-Teacher program participated in the study. The data for this study was generated through in-depth semi-structured phone and email interviews. The study reveals that this program has developed personal competences of the pre-service teachers, in which they improve self-confidence, coping mechanisms, and time management skill. The “SEA-Teacher” also improved pre-service teachers’ professional competences, such as development of communicative competence, pedagogical skills, new worldviews on education, career goals and new opportunities. The program also benefited these pre-service teachers’ understanding of different cultures, strengthening global-networking and promoting respect. The findings also indicated that SEA Teachers’ competences need to be further developed. Given the significant relationship between teaching competences and teaching internship at international level, it is necessary to promote the SEA-Teacher personal and professional competence. These competences are advised to be reinforced, with more emphasis on weaker domains.

The cultural sustainability in English as foreign language textbooks: Investigating the cultural representations in English language textbooks in China for senior middle school students.

In the age of globalization, studies of cultural representations in foreign language textbooks take account of cultural sustainability. This article reports on a case study of cultural representations in two English language textbook series that are widely used in senior high schools in China. The study investigated whether the cultural representations in these textbooks contribute to the development of local cultural sustainability. Content analysis was employed to examine the texts used in these textbooks, with references to the synergy of the theoretical frameworks of cultural sustainability and world Englishes. The study results indicate that there is an imbalanced cultural representation with respect to the categories of international cultures and national culture in these textbooks. The results point to the cultures of the inner circle countries (BANA: Britain, Australasia, and North America) being predominant, while the representation of Chinese culture has a low profile. As these textbooks are an important learning and teaching resource in China, they have the potential to play a significant role in influencing learners’ worldviews as they develop their understanding of different cultures. The imbalanced presentation of culture may in turn lead to a biased worldview where learners, rather appreciating cultural diversity, may instead discriminate against certain cultures. The implications for redressing the imbalance in cultural representation and cultural sustainability are discussed.

A strong physician-patient relationship is the foundation of providing excellent patient care, as it improves providers' job satisfaction and patients' confidence, which influences their health outcomes.1,2 Strong relationships also prompt more accurate identification of patients' needs and perceptions, which may be used as an indicator of physician competence.3 Given the diverse racial, cultural, and religious backgrounds of patients, it is imperative for physicians to have a fundamental understanding of different cultures in order to provide the best care for patients.

On Becoming an Asian American Psychiatrist: Tales of Stigma, Overcoming, and Forming of Identities

Narratives facilitate powerful connections, and psychiatrists draw on these to inform diagnoses and treatments. In academic psychiatry, narratives also enrich the education of trainees seeking guidance in navigating clinical skills and career planning. In mentoring minority trainees and early career psychiatrists, narratives take on greater significance. They are guideposts for professional development, promote therapeutic alliances, and foster increased understanding of different cultures. Yet narratives from psychiatrists are often not shared. Opportunities are therefore missed where trainees could use them as supports to shape their identities as psychiatrists.

Cultural Awareness in Primary School English Teaching

The English curriculum at the stage of compulsory education is of the dual nature of instrumentality and humanity. When it comes to humanity, the task of English curriculum is to improve students’ comprehensive humanity qualities, one of which is to deepen their understanding of different cultures. Cultural awareness is a reflection of the core literacy in English learning. The cultivation of students’ cultural awareness not only contributes to students’ strengthening of national identity, enhancing of cultural self-confidence in the traditional culture of the nation, but also helps develop an inclusive attitude towards excellent foreign cultures, thereby improving their cross-cultural communication competence. Since the textbooks are regarded as core teaching materials, it is essential for textbooks to contain various cross-cultural elements to better cultivate learners’ cultural awareness. Therefore, cultural content in English textbooks is a necessary issue to be investigated. This paper took 6A Unit 8 Chinese New Year (Yilin Edition) as an example to integrate more cultural knowledge into the specific teaching design. The results in this paper reveal that teachers play four roles in primary school English teaching in terms of raising students’ cultural awareness, namely, the emotion motivator, the cognition inspirator, the behavior guide and the morality regulator.
