SOCIAL ASSESSMENT OF THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN THE FIELD OF AGRICULTURAL WASTE RECYCLING IN SAHEL AL-TINA AREA, AL-SALAM CANAL REGION

The research aimed to study the social evaluation of role of women in terms of agricultural waste recycling in the area of Sahl Al-Tina, It was done on a simple random sample of women working in agriculture of 151 representing 5% of the total women working in agriculture in the villages selected for the study (4), (6), (7). Data were collected using a questionnaire. Results indicated in terms of determining the degree of influence of the aspects of social assessment in the field of agricultural waste recycling from the viewpoint of female respondents. With regard to the first aspect i.e. effect of recycling agricultural waste on the change in the characteristics of the population in the region, it was found that the effect on the population ranked first with a weighted average estimated at 57% As for the sixth aspects i.e. the influence on the position and attitudes of some groups and leaderships. Towards recycling agricultural waste, the effect on the attitude and attitudes of popular leaderships in the region it came first with weighted average of 37.7% The research recommends the need to raise awareness of the environmental damage resulting from burning agricultural waste, the importance of optimal use of it, and how to benefit from it, as well as spread awareness among farmers about how to convert agricultural waste into unconventional feed or organic fertilizers or use it in the production of biogas units.

Use Effect of Unconventional Feed and Mineral Additives on Animal and Poultry Productivity

The possibilities of increasing productivity of animals and poultry by using an additive containing selenium, rapeseed cake and complex mineral additive have been studied. An addition of the preparation “Kartsesel” in mixed fodder promoted the increase in digestibility of nutrients, the increase in erythrocytes, hemoglobin in blood, output of conditioned youngsters, profitability of production. Conditioned young growth was obtained more by 19-22 %. Inclusion in mixed fodder at cultivation of goose rapeseed presscake of Siberian selection positively affected the increase of live weight, yield of gutted carcass. Goose of the first experimental group surpassed the control group by live weight by 3.4%, and the second experimental group by 6.1%. Output of gutted carcass of goose receiving rapeseed meal and rapeseed meal in combination with rapeseed oil is 286.13 g and 388.48 g more. Complex mineral additive in the diet of bulls contributed to the increase of live weight of bulls in 15 months of age, slaughter output, profitability of production and improvement of meat quality. The live weight of the control group of bulls not receiving the feed additive made 459.50 kg, and the experimental group made 11.00 kg more. At the same time the level of profitability of production on steers of the experimental group receiving a mineral additive amounted to 13.77% instead of 10.24% in the control group.

Harnessing the In Vitro Nutritional Potential of Different Varieties of Sugarcane Tops Silages Enriched with Molasses and Bacterial Inoculants as an Unconventional Feed Resource

The present study was conducted to explore the nutritional potential of different varieties of sugarcane top silages enriched with molasses or bacterial inoculants as unconventional feed resource. Tops of four sugarcane varieties, i.e., Co 118, CoJ 88, CoPb 93 and CoPb 92, recommended for cultivation in India were collected and evaluated for their chemical composition. Results revealed that tops of sugarcane variety CoPb 93 were lower in crude protein and ether extract content, whereas variety CoPb 92 had lower acid detergent lignin as compared to all tested varieties. Similarly, neutral detergent fiber was lower in variety Co 118 and CoPb 92 as compared to varieties CoJ 88 and CoPb 93. Collected sugarcane tops were ensiled with bacterial inoculants (1 g/ton) and molasses (95:5) for 45 days in low-density polypropylene tubes. The all sugarcane tops varieties with molasses and bacterial inoculants produced good quality silage with pH 4.0% DM and ammonical-N < 10% of total nitrogen. Although molasses-based sugarcane top silages had overall good ensiling potential as compared to bacterial treated silages, overall from the present study, it can be concluded that the molasses-based silages with sugarcane tops variety CoPb 92 followed by variety CoPb 93 have higher potential as unconventional feed resource for livestock.

Substitution of Soybean Meal by Shrimp Head Meal (Penaeus Monodon) in Poultry Ration for the Performance of Growing Pullets

To minimize the production cost of poultry and poultry products, it is important to formulate low cost balanced ration utilizing unconventional feed resources. Therefore, the experiment was carried out to measure the effect of substituting soybean meal (SBM) by different levels of shrimp head meal (SHM) to the ration of growing layer pullets. A control corn-soybean layer grower (pullet) diet and four different levels of SHM included diets as substitution of SBMwere fed to five groups of Hisex White pullets from 5th to 18th weeks of age. All groups of pullets fed isocaloric feeds (2765 Kcal kg-1). The control group T0 (0 % SHM+20 % SBM) received grower ration formulated with traditional feed ingredients with no substitution of SBM. The SBM contents of other treatment groups were substituted at the rate of 25 %, 50 %, 75 % and 100 % by the SHM and were adjusted as 5 % SHM+15 % SBM (T1), 10 % SHM+10 % SBM (T2), 15 % SHM+5 % SBM (T3) and 20 % SHM+0 % SBM (T4) keeping other ingredients constant as of control. Cumulative feed intake increased with the increasing level of SHM of diets. Feed cost and mortality rate decreased with the increasing level of SHM in the ration. Significantly lowest FCR at most of the age categories, highest cumulative body weight (p&lt;0.05) at 18 weeks and highest weight at maturity (p&lt;0.05) were found in treatment group fed 5 % SHM. Therefore, it can be concluded that substitution of 25 % SBM of the ration by SHM is suitable for the better performance of growing layer pullets.&#x0D; SAARC J. Agri., 18(2): 125-137 (2020)

Low cost feed formulation for economical rearing of rural poultry

Population explosion worldwide has increased the demand for egg and meat over year. In India Availability of easy, economical poultry feed at reasonable cost is key for successful poultry business. Incorporation of conventional feed ingrediants in poultry feed has increased the cost of production tremendously. This lead to search for alternative unconventional locally available cheap feed sources for reducing the feed cost which in turn can reduce the total cost of production of meat and egg and making them easily available at cheaper cost in rural India. Low cost rearing of poultry bird will be a boon for marginal farmers and landless poor. Various easily available unconventional feed sources such as azolla, jujube, fruit, wheat bran, available in local or rural region could be a better alternative to conventional poultry feed. In present study non conventional feed sources was tested using different concentration of Azolla, jujube fruit powder, soybean grain and wheat bran. It is found that the treatment with Azolla (46.66%) + Jujube fruit powder (13.33%) + Soybean grain (26.33%) + Wheat bran (13.33%) was the best combination feed for poultry compared with the rest of the treatment and control. The birds fed with this feed did not showed any mortality however 40% and 30% mortality were observed in birds supplemented with control and market feed respectively.

Abstract Context Increasing demand for animal products, and scarcity and cost of conventional feed ingredients, drive the search for alternative energy and protein sources for poultry feed. Insects provide opportunities as a sustainable, high-quality and low-cost component of poultry feed. Aims This study evaluated the effects of dietary inclusion of powdered Tenebrio molitor (yellow mealworm) larvae meal on productive performance, egg quality characteristics and blood parameters of laying hens. Methods In total, 126 Bovans White laying hens, 63 weeks of age, were allocated to three dietary groups, each with seven replicate cages of six birds per cage. Treatments were: a basal diet, and two experimental diets comprising the basal diet plus T. molitor larvae meal at 2.5% or 5% inclusion rate. The duration of the study was 8 weeks. Key results Egg production, egg mass and feed conversion ratio were all improved (P &lt; 0.05) by inclusion of T. molitor meal in the diet. The lower rate of inclusion was more effective with respect to egg production and feed conversion ratio. Inclusion of larvae meal did not influence (P &gt; 0.05) feed intake, egg weight or bodyweight gain. Furthermore, egg quality characteristics and blood parameters were not influenced (P &gt; 0.05) by dietary treatment. Conclusions The study showed that inclusion of T. molitor larvae meal in the diet of laying hens could improve productive performance, especially at the 2.5% level. Implications Powdered meal of T. molitor larvae is an appropriate, unconventional feed ingredient for laying hens, and may have a role in improving socioeconomic and environmental outcomes, aligning with the United Nations’ sustainable development goals.

Effects of inclusion of varying levels of dried Rice Distillers Grains with Solubles on the performance of Vanaraja birds

Abstract: Incorporation of unconventional feed ingredients in poultry ration plays a pivotal role in successful and economic poultry production. Distillers Dried Grains with Soluble is now becoming a popular unconventional ingredient for livestock as well as poultry feed due to its high nutritive value and lower price. In West Bengal Rice based Distillers Dried Grains with Soluble (RDGS) is predominantly available. When it comes to feeding Dried Rice Distillers Grains with Solubles (RDGS) to poultry birds, there is no formal recommendation regarding dietary concentration. Hence, the present study was conducted to assess the effects of varying levels of RDGS inclusion on “Vanaraja” chicken production performance. Total 144 numbers of Vanaraja birds were included to conduct the present study. They were divided randomly into three (3) groups (n = 48) with three (3) different dietary treatments that includes Control (C) without inclusion of RDGS, Treatment – I (T1) with 6% RDGS inclusion of the total diet / day and Treatment – II (T2) with 12% RDGS inclusion of the total diet / day respectively. The experiment continued up to 32 weeks of age of the birds. The performance parameters on the basis of body weight (BW) and egg production upto that age were recorded. Result showed that inclusion of RDGS increased body weight of the birds significantly than the group without inclusion of RDGS. Among the two supplemented groups the treatment group II (T2) i.e. inclusion of RDGS @ 12% of the total diet /day was having maximum body weight (2678.37±5.20 g / bird at 32 weeks). The egg production per hen also significantly increased in the supplemented groups than the non supplemented group. So among the two doses of RDGS inclusion, the second group (T2) showed best result. Therefore, it can be concluded from the above study that in rural condition where low quality feed is available to the birds, inclusion of RDGS as a protein source is beneficial to the birds. Mulberry leaf powder regulates antioxidative capacity and lipid metabolism in finishing pigs.

This study evaluated the potential of mulberry leaf powder as an unconventional feed material for finishing pigs by assessing the growth performance, antioxidative properties, fatty acid profile, and lipid metabolism in 180 Xiangcun black pigs. Pigs with an initial body weight (BW) of 71.64 ± 1.46 kg were randomly assigned to 5 treatment groups, including the control diet and 4 experimental diets. The corn, soybean meal, and wheat bran in the control diet were partly replaced by 3%, 6%, 9%, or 12% mulberry leaf powder in experimental diets. There were 6 replicates (pens) of 6 pigs per replicate in each treatment. Blood and muscle samples were collected after the 50-day feed experiment. Compared with the control group, the 3%, 6%, and 9% mulberry diets had no adverse effect (P > 0.05) on the growth performance of pigs. The serum glutathione peroxidase activity and glutathione concentration increased linearly (P < 0.05) with the increase in dietary mulberry inclusion. There was no significant difference in the relative expression levels of antioxidant-related genes in muscle tissue between the control and mulberry groups. Inclusion of dietary mulberry powder increased (P < 0.05) the content of polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially in the longissimus dorsi (LD) muscle, up-regulated (P < 0.05) the relative mRNA expression level of uncoupling protein-3 in muscle tissue, but down-regulated (P < 0.05) the relative mRNA expression levels of hormone-sensitive lipase, acetyl CoA carboxylase α, lipoprotein lipase, and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ in LD in a linear pattern. The nuclear respiratory factor 2 expression level in the LD muscle of pigs fed the 9% mulberry diet was higher (P < 0.01) than that in the other mulberry groups and control group. The inclusion of less than 12% dietary mulberry did not detrimentally affect the growth performance of Xiangcun black pigs, but enhanced the serum antioxidant property, increased the polyunsaturated fatty acid content, and inhibited lipid oxidation by regulating gene expression levels of lipid metabolism and mitochondrial uncoupling protein in muscle tissue. Mulberry leaves can be utilized as a forage crop in the diet of finishing pigs.

Growth performance and haematological characteristics of broiler finisher chickens fed palm kernel cake as partial replacement for maize and Soya bean

High feed cost resulting from the use of conventional feed ingredients represents a major challenge in broiler production in South-East Nigeria. Feed constitutes 70% of the cost of production of broiler chickens hence, the replacement of unconventional feed ingredients holds the key to sustainable poultry production. This trial was aimed at determining the optimum inclusion level of palm kernel cake as a partial replacement of soya bean and maize in a broiler finisher diet during a 28-day trial. The PKC was included at 0%, 35%, 40% and 45% of total feed composition and birds were fed ad libitum. A total of one hundred and twenty (120) four week-old broilers were used for the measurements. Birds were allotted to four treatment groups of 10 birds each with three replications in a completely randomized design (CRD). The growth performance and haematological characteristics were evaluated. The results showed significant differences (P&lt;0.05) in the final weight gains, average weight gain and feed conversion ratio but no significant differences was observed in the feed intake. The control diet had the highest average weight gain of 919.20g and 40% PKC inclusion had the least value of 595.47g. At end of the experiment, 6 birds randomly selected from each treatment were fasted overnight and slaughtered for blood samples collection. The results of the haematological parameters indicated significant differences (P&lt;0.05) in the haemoglobin (Hb) concentrations, packed cell volume (PCV), total white blood cell counts (WBC), respectively. Furthermore, the mean cell volume (MCV), mean cell heamoglobin (MCH), mean cell heamoglobin concentration (MCHC) all showed significant variation. However, no significant differences were observed in the red blood cell count (RBC). From this study, it could be concluded that although broiler birds can tolerate high inclusion levels of PKC up to 40%, 35% was the level of inclusion that would result to higher weight gains for optimum productivity.

Dietary supplementation with Moringa oleifera and mulberry leaf affects pork quality from finishing pigs.

Moringa oleifera and Morus alba leaves are nutritious non-traditional feed ingredients containing bioactive substances. This study was to evaluate the potential application of dietary Moringa and Morus leaf powder on the growth traits, carcass characteristics and meat quality of finishing pigs. Moringa did not alter growth performance or carcass characteristics, but it decreased meat b* value, increased MyHCIIa and decreased MyHCIIx mRNA levels, and increased CP and concentrations of Ala, Thr, Ile, Lys and Pro in longissimus thoracis. Morus increased final BW, ADFI and ADG, decreased F/G ratio, improved slaughter weight, carcass weight, carcass yield and meat a* value, and decreased shear force, drip loss, MyHCIIx and MyHCIIb mRNA levels, and increased MyHCI and MyHCIIa mRNA levels. Morus also increased CP, Glu, Gly, Ala, Arg, Ile, Phe, Pro, Ser, Tyr and Asp, and C16:1, C18:1n9c, C20:4n6, C18:3n3, C20:3n3, C22:1n9 and n-3 PUFA, but decreased C12:0 and C16:0. In summary, Morus improved the parameters and held great potential as an unconventional feed crop.

Показана эффективность использования в рационах промышленных кур-несушек натуральных кормовых добавок, изготовленных из сырья растительного происхождения (элеутерококка колючего, морской бурой водоросли, патринии скабеозолистной, крапивы двудомной, муки из шелухи шишек кедрового ореха). Выявлено положительное влияние кормовых добавок на обменные процессы в организме кур, что способствовало повышению их производительных качеств и снижению коэффициента конверсии корма. The results of effective use of the spiny eleuterococcus, brown seaweed, Dahurian patrinia, common nettle, flour from pine cone shell as the feed supplement from raw materials of plant origin in addition to the main ration of industrial laying hens are presented in this publication. The positive influence of the feed supplements on metabolic processes in the hen organisms was discovered and this fact contributed the increase of productive qualities and improvement of feed conversion.

Evaluation of Unconventional Supplements to the Diet of Intensively Reared Agouti (Dasyprocta leporina) in Trinidad, West Indies

A feed trial was carried out to evaluate potential unconventional feed resources such as Trichanthera gigantica and moruga hill rice (Oryza glaberrima) as a partial supplementation to the diet of adult male agoutis (Dasyprocta leporina). Supplemental feeding of the agouti will decrease feeding cost to produce this animal and aid in sustainable agricultural practices. Male agoutis were used as this physiological state was the easiest to attain as well as male animals are generally used for meat production. The trial consisted of 16 male agoutis that were allocated into four dietary treatments using a completely randomized experimental design. Four diet treatments were used in the experiment; treatment 1 (T1) was the positive control which consisted of rabbit ration whilst treatment 2 (T2) to 4 (T4) had different ratios of O. glaberrima, Trichanthera gigantica and Rabbit Ration. The feeding trial had 8-week duration. T2 consisted of 5% T. gigantica, 35% O. glaberrima supplemented for rabbit ration. T3 had 10% T. gigantica and 40% O. glaberrima supplemented for rabbit ration. T4 consisted of 15% Trichanthera and 45% O. glaberrima supplemented for rabbit ration in the diet. Proximate analysis showed that Dry Matter (DM) and Ash was highest in T4 and lowest in T2. Whilst ether extract (EE) and crude protein (CP) were highest in T2 and lowest in T4. Crude fiber (CF) was highest in T3 and lowest in T2. The weights of the agoutis at the start of the experiment (2595 g–2971 g) were not significantly different to their final weight (2469–2762 g) (p > 0.05). There was a significant difference seen between treatments groups and weeks of the experiment (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the interactions between treatment and weeks (p > 0.05). T1 and T2 were not significantly different (p > 0.05) with respect to average daily gain (−0.98 g/d, −1.61 g/d) and weight loss (55 g, 90 g). T2 can be used as an alternative feed source than rabbit ration (control diet) for adult male agoutis. As the final body mass of the male agoutis did not change with the inclusion of 40% Trichanthera and Moruga hill rice, this substitution can be used to maintain male agoutis before slaughter. However, higher amounts of supplements may be detrimental to this animal.

The paper analyzes the main causes of cannibalism and methods to prevent it in poultry. Cannibalism leads to considerable economic losses of poultry enterprises, since its manifestations do not depend on poultry number, species and conditions of housing. Excessive stocking density, changes in hierarchal group structure, adding new individuals, deviation from normative indexes of micro-climate and light intensity are initial causes of cannibalism. At first poultry feel discomfort, evolving into concern, aggression and hysteria and later – into pecking and feather-plucking. Producers pay much attention to unconventional feed supplements of natural origin. The research results show that changes in stocking density and adding 5 g/head of shells to mixed fodder of the poultry of the research groups made it possible to increase productivity and have a positive impact on egg quality. The productivity of the second group was 1428 pieces that was by 138 pieces higher than that of the first research group and by 309 pieces – than that of the test group. Clinical observation at the end of the research showed that the appearance of some chickens of the second research group improved, the lost feather was renewed and shining down appeared. The research establishes that availability of shells in feeds meets poultry demand for a pecking reflex and has an effect of additional “business”. Such a preventing measure contributes to balancing general poultry conditions, reducing aggression, hysteria, cannibalism and maintaining poultry stocks.

The influence of non-traditional feed additives on the productivity of horses in Yakutia

The article presents data from the results of a study to determine the effectiveness of using unconventional feed additives for horse productivity in Yakutia. To conduct scientific experiments, 3 groups of horses of the indigenous Yakut breed were formed, 12 animals each. In order to enrich animal diets by macro and microelements, as well as to increase horse productivity in winter, the effect of zeolite-sapropelic feed additives on milk production and physiological state of animals was studied. In the process of conducting research, the following methods were used: biochemical, physiological, biometric and economic research methods. As a result of the research, it was found that the use of feed additives in feeding horses contributed to an increase in the milk yield of the experimental groups of mares 10.42% and 14.89%. At the same time, annual milk yield increased by 10.43% and 14.98%. It was found that the feed additive contributed to the improvement of the qualitative composition of milk, so for fat by 0.15% and 0.16% and protein by 0.19% and 0.32%. A study of the physiological status of animals found that the feed additives affected the biochemical composition of blood. An increase of albumin by 5.95% and 9.52%, globulin - by 1.37% and 3.42%, hemoglobin - by 1.74% and 3.20% was found in animals consuming feed additives. Analysis of the economic efficiency of the use of zeolite-sapropel feed additives in feeding mares has shown that in the experimental groups consuming feed additives, the profitability was 27.34% and 32.33%. Studies have proved the perspectivityof the use of organic mineral feed additives in feeding horses in the conditions of Yakutia.

Growth and development, meat pig productivity at use in their diets unconventional feed additives in Yakutia

Relevance. The article presents data on the influence of unconventional feed additives of the Suntar zeolite on growth and development, physiological parameters, as well as meat productivity of fattening pigs in Yakutia.Methods. For the experiments, 3 groups of animals were formed with 15 animals each. The rations of the experimental animals were identical, except for additional feeding of unconventional feed additives in the experimental groups.Results. The use of Suntar zeolite in experimental groups of pigs allowed to improve the growth and development of animals by 3.02% and 6.68%, respectively. At the same time, in terms of average daily growth, the control group of pigs yielded to experimental groups of animals by 7.42% and 15.17%. During the experiments, a difference was found in the indices of the morphological composition of fattening young pigs. The control group of young animals by the number of red blood cells yielded to experimental groups of pigs by 2.00% and 4.00%. By the number of leukocytes, the control group of the group lost 1.02% and 1.16% to the experimental groups of animals. At the end of the experiment, a control slaughter of animals was carried out. Qualitative differences were established between the superiority of the experimental groups over the control group in terms of carcass weight by 5.25% and 1.98%, by internal fat yield by 0.71% and 0.64%, slaughter yield by 0.71% and 0.64 %, according to the meat content by 0.9% and 2.97%, as well as the share of fat 0.54% and 0.74%. Thus, the use of unconventional feed additives of the Suntar zeolite in the fattening of young pigs has shown effectiveness.

Comprehensive comparison of enhanced recycle split vapour processes for ethane recovery

The recycle split vapour (RSV) process is used for ethane recovery all over the world. However, improvements in RSV are required to treat unconventional feed gases under special conditions. In this paper, we propose three enhanced processes: RSV with propane refrigeration and pre-pressurization (RSVPP), RSV with propane and ethylene combined refrigeration (RSVPE) and RSV with propane and mixed refrigerant refrigeration (RSVPM). A comprehensive comparative analysis of the performances of these processes is carried out using conventional RSV as a reference. All the enhanced processes exhibit excellent performance in terms of the ethane recovery rate. However, the characteristics of each process cannot be differentiated using a single measure to compare the processes. The aim of this study is to evaluate the modified RSV processes in terms of economy, energy consumption and exergy. Thus, the advantages and disadvantages of each enhanced process are highlighted, enabling researchers to distinguish among the three proposed processes from different perspectives.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle for Food Waste: A Second Life for Fresh-Cut Leafy Salad Crops in Animal Diets.

Simple SummaryThere is a historical link between co/by-products and animal feed, however innovative options are now available. Adopting the principles of the circular economy guarantees further progress for the food–feed chain. By-products and biomasses, such as former foodstuffs or plant by-products (PBPs) from the food processing industries, could be recycled as feedstuff for farms. This review focuses on the biomass derived from the processing of vegetables, and in particular on fresh-cut leafy salad crops as potential ruminant feedstuff. The chemical composition of this class of PBPs makes them comparable to other traditional feeds, such as fresh forage, and suggests that they could be considered for ruminant nutrition. Although at a very early stage, the potential of this new biomass seems high. These products can be used to reduce the environmental impact of both the food and livestock sectors.The world’s population is growing rapidly, which means that the environmental impact of food production needs to be reduced and that food should be considered as something precious and not wasted. Moreover, an urgent challenge facing the planet is the competition between the food produced for humans and the feed for animals. There are various solutions such as the use of plant/vegetable by-products (PBPs) and former foodstuffs, which are the co/by-products of processing industries, or the food losses generated by the food production chain for human consumption. This paper reviews the by-co-products derived from the transformation of fresh-cut leafy salad crops. A preliminary nutritional evaluation of these materials is thus proposed. Based on their composition and nutritional features, in some cases similar to fresh forage and grasses, this biomass seems to be a suitable feedstuff for selected farm animals, such as ruminants. In conclusion, although the present data are not exhaustive and further studies are needed to weigh up the possible advantages and disadvantages of these materials, fresh-cut leafy salad crops represent a potential unconventional feed ingredient that could help in exploiting the circular economy in livestock production, thereby improving sustainability.

An observational study of pet feeding practices and how these have changed between 2008 and 2018
