Latent structure and measurement invariance by gender of the Embodied Image Scale

Body image is a multidimensional construct that includes both aesthetic (how our body looks) and functional components (what our body can do physically). Our study aimed to investigate latent structure and measurement invariance (MI) by gender of the Serbian translation of Embodied Image Scale using a large sample of adults from the general population (N = 1035; M = 26.33, SD = 9.94; 66.7% females). The Embodied Image Scale (EIS) incorporates aesthetic and functional body image. According to the results of the confirmatory factor analysis, the following five factors described the latent structure of the EIS the best: functional investment (FI), functional values (FV), functional satisfaction (FS), aesthetic satisfaction (AS), and aesthetic values and investment (AVI). The results of the MI suggested that the EIS achieved the strict (residual) level of invariance. In addition, the convergent validity of the EIS was tested by correlating the EIS scores with positive and negative mental health indicators. The results suggested that FV, FI, FS, and AS had a positive correlation with positive affect and unconditional self-acceptance (USA), FS and AS correlated negatively with negative affect (NA), symptoms of depression (D), and conditional self-acceptance (CSA), while the AVI had a positive correlation with NA, CSA, D, and negative correlation with USA. Finally, we compared physically inactive participants, recreationists, and active athletes on the EIS scores. The results revealed that all groups differed in FV, FS, and AS in a way that scores on these subscales increased with increased physical activity.

COMPARISON BETWEEN PERCEIVE OF SOCIAL SUPPORT AND SELF-ACCEPTANCE AMONG MALE AND FEMALE OF DIPLOMA COLLEGE STUDENTS IN MALAYSIA

This study aimed to determine association between perceived social support and self-acceptance, with further analysis conducted to compare gender (male and female) in perceived social support and self-acceptance among polytechnic students. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 177 students who consented to participate (90 males, 87 females), with an age range between 18 and 25 years old. The respondents were recruited using convenience sampling. Validated measures, including the Multidimensional Perceived Social Support (MPSS) and the Unconditional Self-Acceptance Questionnaire (USAQ), were employed in this study. Descriptive analysis and inferential analysis using Pearson's correlation and independent t-tests were utilized to analyze the data. The current findings suggested a non-significant relationship between perceived support from family [r (177) = - .073, p = .335] and self-acceptance. Conversely, there was a significant positive relationship between perceived support from friends and self-acceptance [r (177) = .191, p = .011], as well as between perceived support from significant others and self-acceptance [r (177) = .177, p = .019]. Furthermore, no significant differences were found between male and female polytechnic students regarding perceived social support, including family, friends, and significant others. However, a significant difference was observed in gender and self-acceptance t (175) = -3.307, p < .001) with the mean score for male self-acceptance lower than that of females. These findings contribute to the existing literature and underscore the importance of social support and self-acceptance in the well-being of diploma college students.

A Self-acceptance and Body Image on Student Self-confidence

Confidence plays a significant role for all individuals, especially in the field of education. Self-confidence can be influenced by several factors, including self-acceptance and body image. The purpose of this research is to determine the influence of selfacceptance and body image on students’ self-confidence. The sampling technique used was non-probability sampling, specifically convenience sampling, with 369 students from various educational levels, ranging from D1 to S3. Data were collected using the Unconditional Self-Acceptance Questionnaire (USAQ), the 14-item version of the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ), and a self-confidence scale. Data analysis was done using multiple linear regression. The results of this study indicate that all hypotheses were accepted: (1) self-acceptance has an impact on self-confidence; (2) body image has an impact on self-confidence; and (3) self-acceptance and body image, when considered together, have an impact on self-confidence. The higher the levels of self-acceptance and body image, the higher the self-confidence of the students.

Addiction Patient’s Relationship to Self and Predictions on the Estimated Hospitalization Duration

Addictions are physical and/or psychological dependency disorders characterized by repetitive and compulsive behaviours in which the individual has difficulty controlling impulses. In this study, behaviours are defined as chronic alcohol or substance use. Thus, compulsions will generate negative consequences on a person's quality of life. Among the causes of addiction are genetic and biological factors, environmental factors, trauma, abuse, lack of emotional support, stress, social pressures, poor coping mechanisms, social and cultural factors.
 Material and method
 In this study, part of a larger study, 81 patients diagnosed with toxic-nutritional liver cirrhosis, chronic alcohol users, aged between 32 and 68 years were included. The study period was of two years, and anamnestic data (number of hospitalization days, hospitalization frequency) were collected for the period 2015-2022. In order to carry out the linear research, SPSS statistical software was used. Patients, after obtaining consent, were administered a psychological questionnaire designed to assess unconditional self-acceptance, based on the hypothesis that low self-tolerance generates self-destructive behaviours, i.e. addictions.
 
 Results 
 The necessary statistical steps were followed in order to check the database and it was possible to obtain correlations between the number of hospitalization days, the hospitalization frequency and the scores obtained in the questionnaire. Finally, it was possible to generate a simple linear regression prediction with the number of hospitalisation days /inpatient frequency as the dependent variable and the test score as the independent variable.
 The results showed that as unconditional self-acceptance decreases (decreasing score), the hospitalization duration or the number of patient presentations to the doctor increases.
 Conclusions 
 Unconditional self-acceptance, environmental tolerance, coping mechanisms have a major impact on the patient's well-being and compliance with treatment. Psychosomatic disorders accompany the addiction patient to a much greater extent than the diagnosis made by clinicians. This demonstrates the need for a diagnostic tool, the lack of collaboration with the psychiatrist, ultimately generating costs on the health system and reducing the quality of the patient’s life.
 In order to optimise the diagnosis, a tool within the clinician's reach (internal medicine doctor, gastroenterologist, etc.) and a real collaboration with the psychiatrist or clinical psychologist is necessary.

Objectives The purposes of this study were to analyze the mediating effect of unconditional self-acceptance be-tween rational and irrational beliefs and unconditional acceptance of life.
 Methods To this end, a survey was conducted on 750 adults in the metropolitan area from October 2022 to December 2022 to measure rational/irrational beliefs, unconditional acceptance of life, and unconditional self-ac-ceptance, and 684 copies were used for analysis. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, reli-ability analysis, correlation analysis, and mediation analysis.
 Results First, the correlation analysis results showed that the relationships between rational beliefs, unconditional self-acceptance, and unconditional acceptance of life all had a positive correlation, while irrational beliefs were found to have a negative correlation with unconditional self-acceptance and unconditional acceptance of life. appear. Second, the partial mediating effect of unconditional self-acceptance was significant in the relationship between rational beliefs and unconditional acceptance of life. Third, the partial mediating effect of unconditional self-acceptance was significant in the relationship between irrational beliefs and unconditional acceptance of life.
 Conclusions By analyzing the relationship and mediating effect between rational and irrational beliefs, uncondi-tional acceptance of life, and unconditional self-acceptance, this study expands unconditional self-acceptance in the process of refuting irrational beliefs and replacing them with rational beliefs. It is significant in that it suggests a path to increase satisfaction.

The Effect of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Islamic Approach On Self-Acceptance of Patients with Mental Disorder

Mental disorders have different manifestations and symptoms but are generally characterized by some combination of disturbances of thought, perception, emotion, behavior, and impaired relationships with other people. Severe mental disorders, including schizophrenia, are prone to stigma. Good self-acceptance has a robust negative correlation with stigma. This study examines the effect of Islamic acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) on self-acceptance in patients with mental disorders. The research method is quantitative with a semi-experimental pre-post-test. Respondents in this study were 31 patients with mental disorders who were selected using a purposive sampling technique that met the criteria of being Muslim, awareness, and understanding of patients with mental disorders experienced in the good category, namely being aware of the disease experienced. The measuring instrument used in this study consisted of a demographic questionnaire and an Unconditional Self-Acceptance Questionnaire (USAQ). Results showed that ACT with Islamic approach significantly increased self-acceptance in a patient with mental disorders (P<0.001). ACT can be used as an effective intervention to increase self-acceptance in a patient with mental disorders.

Disney Movies Encanto and Frozen. An REBT and Cinematherapy Perspective

"If you are a parent, then you must have seen those two cartoons (Encanto and Frozen) a dozen times. And if you are not a parent, then you certainly heard of them, because they are some of Disney’s best and largest projects, and not just in terms of box office income, which was huge (close to 3 billion dollars, combined). Financial aspects aside, the two productions are amazing because of their powerful educational messages. In this article, we analyse the educational messages and behaviours anchored in the Rational Emotive Behaviour Theory, a form of psychotherapy that focuses on helping individuals identify and change irrational beliefs that lead to negative emotions and self-defeating behaviours. We also analyse the two movies from a cinematherapy perspective. We conclude and recommend that the two movies can and should be used by parents, educators, and counsellors all over the world to educate their children about some rational attitudes (unconditional self-acceptance, unconditional other-acceptance and life acceptance, self-awareness), as well as important values (family, friendship, honesty, courage) and also as therapeutic instruments from a cinematherapy perspective. Objectives This study aims to verify the mediating effect of unconditional self-acceptance and emotional clarity in the relationship between parental psychological control perceived by late adolescents and ambivalence over emotional expressiveness.
 Methods To this end, 461 male and female late adolescents aged 19 to 24 nationwide were surveyed, and reli-ability analysis, descriptive statistics analysis, correlation analysis, and mediating effect analysis were performed using SPSS 29.0 and PROCESS Macro 4.1 programs, and bootstrapping was performed to verify the significance of indirect effects.
 Results The main results of the study are as follows. First, there was a significant correlation between psycho-logical control of father and mother, unconditional self-acceptance, emotional clarity, and the ambivalence over emotional expressiveness. Second, there was a complete mediating effect of unconditional self-acceptance in the relationship between psychological control of father and mother and the ambivalence over emotional expressiveness. Third, in the relationship between psychological control of father and the ambivalence over emo-tional expressiveness, there was a partial mediating effect of emotional clarity, whereas in the case of psycho-logical control of mother, there was a complete mediating effect of emotional clarity. Fourth, in the relationship between psychological control of father and mother and the ambivalence over emotional expressiveness, there was a sequential mediating effect of unconditional self-acceptance and emotional clarity.
 Conclusions Expanding the understanding of the process in which late adolescents who highly perceive their pa-rental psychological control experience ambivalence over emotional expressiveness. By revealing the internal mechanisms of unconditional self-acceptance and emotional clarity that mediate this relationship, the direction and basic data of counseling and education programs for late adolescents who experience parental psychological control and complain of emotional expression conflicts were provided.

The effectiveness of a rational-emotive intervention on teachers' unconditional self-acceptance, perfectionism, and pupil control ideology.

The present research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) intervention on in-service teachers. A quasi-experimental 2-group (intervention vs. control) × 3-time (pre, post-test, follow-up) design was applied to explore to what extent the REBT interventions help teachers increase their level of unconditional self-acceptance as the primary outcome and decrease their perfectionism tendencies and pupil control ideology as secondary outcomes. The sample consisted of 100 in-service teachers assigned to either the intervention group (n = 50) or the control group (n = 50). The experimental group received a 6-week intervention program. Every session was held weekly and lasted 90-120 min. The Unconditional Self-Acceptance Questionnaire (USAQ), Pupil Control Ideology Scale (PCI), and Perfectionism Inventory Scale (PI) were used to collect data. This study used a mixed model ANOVA 2 × 3 for data analysis. The results indicated that in the experimental group, there was a statistically significant increase in unconditional self-acceptance level from pre-test to post-test, which remains significant at the 6-month follow-up. Likewise, there were no statistically significant differences in unconditional self-acceptance levels between the post-test and 6-month follow-up in the intervention group. These findings prove that REBT interventions are effective in increasing teachers' unconditional self-acceptance.

Unconditional personal self-acceptance as a humanistic trait of a psychologist

Becoming a future psychologist in a university environment is a complex and multifaceted process. This process includes the formation of professional skills, as well as the psychological enrichment of the inner world of the future psychologist. Personal and professional development of a psychologist are interconnected and combined in the process of self-development. The discovery of self-actualization horizons requires a psychologist to have a number of humanistic qualities, such as a positive attitude toward oneself and others, empathy, congruent self-expression, and confidence. Unconditional true self-acceptance is the basis of the training of an effective psychologist. Undoubted self-acceptance reflects internal recognition and respect for oneself as an individual capable of independent choices and awareness of one’s feelings, thoughts, intentions, and motives. This includes accepting yourself as a whole and benevolent-demanding attitude towards yourself. Conditional self-acceptance, on the other hand, implies a mistrustful and critical attitude towards oneself, which can violate the integrity of the individual, negate one’s own self-concept. The structure of conditional self-acceptance of future psychologists consists of three interrelated components: the inability to consciously perceive and understand one’s own emotional and sensory states, the inability to overcome protective mechanisms that prevent the acceptance of one’s own experiences and emotions, and the rejection of real inner desires and motives, which can lead to personal destructiveness. The functional structure of unconditional self-acceptance contains at least four interdependent components: awareness of one’s own emotions, body states and feelings, a positive attitude towards oneself as an individual that ensures integrity and self-development, empathy for others and their psychological support, existential openness to the world and a tendency to self-actualization. For future psychologists, unconditional self-acceptance is the basis for the formation of professional self-awareness and the ability to provide qualified assistance to clients with the psycho-existential resources of one’s own personality. It is argued that self-acceptance affects the development of such humanistic qualities as unconditional acceptance of others, empathy in relationships, the ability to be internally open to communication, the ability to establish and maintain contacts with others, as well as the ability to tolerate, dialogue, and find a compromise. The listed characteristics are the basic qualification traits-qualities of a psychologist, which effectively determine his professional success in interaction with clients. The model of the development of unconditional self-acceptance of future psychologists proposed in the article reflects a constant progressive change in the orientation of the components of the structure of self-acceptance (from conditional to unconditional), and also reveals the psychological conditions and mechanisms for the development of productive unconditional self-acceptance of an individual. To actualize and implement the latter, psychological training is presented as an integral means of developing unconditional psycho-existential self-acceptance of the personality of future psychologists.As a result, the hypothesis was confirmed that unconditional self-acceptance positively causes the development of such humanistic personality traits of future psychologists as unconditional acceptance of others, empathy, tolerance, congruence, openness.

The relationship between physical activity and mental health: Is more always better?

The current study was designed to examine the relationship between physical activity and mental health. We investigated whether individuals who perceive themselves as physically inactive, recreationists, or active athletes differ in positive (positive affect, subjective well-being, unconditional self-acceptance) and negative mental health outcomes (depression, anxiety, stress, negative affect, conditional self-acceptance). Furthermore, we investigated whether the total level of leisure-time physical activity predicted different mental health indicators. Analysis revealed that physically active respondents (recreationists and active athletes) seem to have better overall mental health status than physically inactive ones. Precisely, physically inactive individuals scored higher on all measures of negative mental health indicators, and lower on all measures of positive mental health indicators, compared with the participants from the two other groups. At the same time, there were no significant differences in these measures between recreationists and active athletes. Besides, a positive association was found between the weekly frequency of leisure-time activity and only two positive indicators of mental health (positive affect and subjective well-being)of all tested. The obtained results suggest that it is often more relevant for mental health whether someone is physically active or not, in general, than how frequently they exercise.

Romanian Version of the Frustration Discomfort Scale (FDS): A Preliminary Validation on a Non-clinical Sample

AbstractLow frustration tolerance is one of the key concepts in rational emotional behavior therapy (REBT). The purpose of this study is to explore the factorial structure, reliability, and validity of the Romanian version of the Frustration Discomfort Scale (FDS), developed by Harrington (Clin Psychol Psychother 12(5):374–387, 2005b. https://doi.org/10.1002/cpp.465), within a non-clinical sample (N = 308) of Romanian teachers. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) suggests that the initial four-factor solution from the scale development study received similar support to the one-factor solution found in some previous studies. Patterns of correlations linking the FDS total sum score versus the FDS 4-factor scale scores with other variables provide some support for the one-factor solution, mainly because it is a more parsimonious solution. Differentiating between several subcomponents of FDS does not bring discriminant validity in our non-clinical sample. Based on current preliminary validation, the FDS is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing frustration discomfort in a Romanian-speaking population as a single-factor construct. Our results do not exclude the possibility that future discriminant validity endeavors could support the utility of treating low frustration tolerance as a multidimensional construct since using a non-clinical sample is likely to impact the factorial structure of the FDS.

The Structural Model of Self-acceptance, Thematic Relationships and Hope for Employment through Mediating Sense of Agency and Its Effect on Life Quality of Blind and Low-vision Graduates

Background: The present study aims to use structural model in explaining the effect of unconditional self-acceptance, the quality of thematic relationships, and the hope for employment regarding the life quality of blind and visually impaired students based on the mediating role of the sense of agency.
 Methods: This study used descriptive research method of correlation type, which was carried out by structural equations. Moreover, this project was practical in terms of purpose. The statistical population of the current research included all the 12 to 35 blind and partially sighted people who were members of the Blind Association of Khuzestan province in 2022 with, university education (associate to doctorate). Targeted face sampling was used, and research tools included the following questionnaires: Life Quality of the Blind and Visually Impaired (2000), Unconditional Self-Acceptance (2001), the Quality of Subjective Relationships (1985), the Employment Hope (2007) and the Sense of Agency for People with Visual Impairments (2007). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and structural equation modeling (SEM).
 Results: The sum of squared multiple correlations (R2) for quality of life was equal to 0.58 (P = 0.001, β = 0.358). Accordingly, it can be said that the sense of agency mediates the effect of quality of the subject relationships regarding life quality of the blind graduates in a negative way, and the effect of hope for employment (β = 0.303, P = 0.001) and unconditional acceptance (β = 0.254, P = 0.001) on their life quality in a positive and meaningful way.
 Conclusion: Hope for employment and self-acceptance and the quality of local relationships as well as the sense of agency affect the life quality of blind and visually impaired people, and psychologists and people who are in contact with them.

대학생의 내현적자기애가 대인관계에 미치는 영향

The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effects of rejection sensitivity and unconditional self-acceptance between covert narcissism and interpersonal competence in college students. For the study, an self-report survey consisting of Covert Narcissism Scale, Rejection Sensitivity Questionnaire, Unconditional Self-Acceptance Scale and Interpersonal Competence in Peer Relationship was conducted on 483 university students. The results were as follows: First, covert narcissism has a negative correlation with interpersonal competence, and unconditional self-acceptance and has a positive correlation with rejection sensitivity. Second, it was found that rejection sensitivity and unconditional self-acceptance mediated the relationship between covert narcissism and interpersonal competence. The limitation of the study was also discussed along with suggestions for the future research.

Pengaruh Self-Efficacy Terhadap Self-Acceptance Mahasiswa Pendidikan Kesejahteraan Keluarga

<p><strong><strong>This study aims to determine self-efficacy's effect on the students' self-acceptance of the Family Welfare Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Jakarta. The study uses the associative quantitative method on 148 active students from the 2019-2021 class (129 female and 19 male). The study was conducted at Universitas Negeri Jakarta from April to October 2022. The self-efficacy was measured using a general self-efficacy scale. Whereas self-acceptance was measured using an unconditional self-acceptance questionnaire. The results showed that: (1) students had a high level of self-efficacy, (2) students had a high level of self-acceptance, (3) there was a significant effect of self-efficacy on students' self-acceptance, and (4) 69% of the variation of the self-acceptance variable can be explained through the variation of the self-efficacy variable. Students need to have confidence in their abilities, effort, and perseverance to solve the problems they face to have high self-acceptance. Unconditional self-acceptance among the psychology students of University X, Malaysia: the role of mattering, perceived social support and state self-esteem

<p>Unconditional self-acceptance (USA) is important for mental health. Studies reported that university students would develop the USA when they feel socially supported, included, and matter. Nevertheless, those factors are dependent on social feedbacks. Amidst the COVID-19 outbreak is, they had to follow the social distancing protocols and interact online with each other. This change might have altered the way they perceive the social support and mattering. It is hypothesized that these alterations predicted their USA through their perceived social support (PSS) and the sense of social inclusion (state self-esteem). To test the hypothesis, 214 young adults (85 men, 129 women), aged between 18 to 25 (M=22.80, SD=1.92) were asked to complete a demographic form and the scales of each variable. Students from University X, Malaysia were chosen as the population as they studied fully online when we started this study; unfortunately, the university went back to physical study before we managed to collect our target sample size. The results of Bootstrapping with 5,000 samples and 95% confidence interval showed that state self-esteem (SSE) fully mediated the relationship between mattering and USA, while PSS did not. Therefore, the hypothesis of serial mediation was not supported.</p>

The mediating role of unconditional self-acceptance in the relationship between perceived parental attitudes and forgiveness among university students

The aim of the current study is to analyze the mediating role of unconditional self-acceptance in the relationship between perceived parental attitudes and forgiveness levels among university students. 1179 (753 females, 426 males) university students studying at Mersin University constitute the sample group for the study. Data was collected using the Volunteer Participant Form, the Parental Attitude Scale, the Unconditional Self-Acceptance Scale, and the Heartland Forgiveness Scale. Pearson correlation, descriptive statistics, an ordinary least squares regression-based approach, and the Bootstrap method were used to analyze the data. The results of the study found that there is a partial mediating role for unconditional self-acceptance in the relationship between perceived parental attitudes (authoritative, protective, and authoritarian) and forgiveness among university students. The mediating models tested in the study were also found to be statistically significant (p<.001). It was found that there is a significant mediating role of unconditional selfacceptance in the relationship between perceived authoritative parental attitudes and forgiveness levels of university students (F(2-1176)= 164.45, p<.001). The total variance explained by authoritative parental attitude and unconditional self-acceptance in the study is 47%. Similarly, it was found that there is a statistically significant mediating role of unconditional self-acceptance in the relationship between perceived protective parental attitudes and forgiveness levels of university students (F(2-1176)=163.54, p<.001), explaining 47% of the total variance. Lastly, it was concluded that the authoritarian parental attitude model is significant (F(2-1176)=158.51, p<.001), and that the authoritarian parental attitude and unconditional self-acceptance variables together explain 46% of the total variance in the study. The results were discussed and evaluated within the context of the research, and suggestions were made for further research to examine relevant variables.

This study retests the validity of the preliminary Maumgram scale developed for adolescents. Errors were found from a few of items among seven factor of preliminary Maumgram scale developed by An Gwansu(2021). To correct errors, it aims to retest the reliability and the validity of the scale, by analyzing the factorial structure and the composition of items in it. It examined the sample used for both exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis based on the data of 280 junior high and high school students, collected by a previous study, and tested the concurrent validity, among criteria-related validity, by administering questionnaires to 312 junior high and high school students in Chun-gnam and Jeong-buk. The findings show that the factor structure consists of seven factors (31 items) such as respect for persons, forgiveness, self-control, willpower, autonomy, acceptance and altruism, and the validity of the factor model is acceptable. The concurrent validity was tested to show that the Maumgram scale has significant correlations with the scales of Unconditional self-acceptance, Brief self-control, Psychological well-being, and Tolerance.

청소년 비자살적 자해(NSSI) 과정과 멈춤 경험에 관한 연구

At the adolescent’s NSSI(Non-Suicidal Self-Injury) is getting more risky and more contagious recently in our society and becoming a severe social problem, we need to conduct systemic and empirical research on it. The therapy intervention in NSSI must be different from the therapy intervention in Suicidal self-injury. The purpose of this study was to examine the mediation effects of unconditional self-acceptance and must handle the psychological meaning in context acts of adolescents with NSSI experience. This study aims to understand NSSI through adolescent’s experiences of NSSI and develop a proper therapy intervention. For this purpose, 9 adolescents who are thought to have enough NSSI experience were interviewed in depth and the data from these interviews and research notes were analyzed by using the grounded theory. The results of this analysis revealed 93 concepts, 36 sub categories, 15 superordinate categories and “a product of subjective perception of distressing emotional experience” as the phenomenons. Though external factors and internal factors effect NSSI, the subjective perception of external experience and internal experience is essential for occurrence of NSSI. Based on these result, implications and limitations of the present study are discussed.
