Into the Groove: A Multitechnique Insight into the DNA–Vemurafenib Interaction

This study explores the interaction between Vemurafenib (VEM), a potent BRAF inhibitor, and calf thymus DNA (ctDNA) using a comprehensive array of biophysical and computational techniques. The primary objective is to understand the potential off-target effects of VEM on DNA, given its established role in melanoma therapy targeting the BRAF V600E mutation. The investigation employed methods such as ultraviolet–visible absorption spectroscopy, steady-state fluorescence, circular dichroism, isothermal titration calorimetry, and advanced molecular dynamics simulations. The results indicate that VEM interacts with DNA primarily through a minor groove-binding mechanism, causing minimal structural disruption to the DNA double helix. Viscosity measurements and melting temperature analyses further confirmed this non-intercalative mode of binding. Calorimetry data revealed an exothermic, thermodynamically favorable interaction between VEM and ctDNA, driven by both enthalpic and entropic factors. Finally, computer simulations identified the most probable binding site and mode of VEM within the minor groove of the nucleic acid, providing a molecular basis for the experimental findings.

In vitro inhibitory effect of berberine against rotavirus combined with its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cytotoxicity activities.

Although berberine (BBR) is well known as a traditional medicine used in treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, its potent against viral gastroenteritis has not been specifically reported. This study aims to investigate the antiviral activity of BBR against rotavirus and evaluate its cytotoxicity and pharmacological efficacies, including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities in vitro. Using ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy, the saturation concentration of BBR was determined as 2261 µg/mL, indicating that BBR is a poor water-soluble compound. The inhibition rate of NO production of BBR solution at a concentration of 238 µg/mL was similar to that of Cardamonin 0.3 µM with a cell viability of 92,46±0.35%, revealing the anti-inflammatory activity of BBR. The cytotoxicity of BBR solution depended on its concentration, whereby the 50% cytotoxicity concentration (CC50) of BBR after 96 h exposure was 664 µg/mL. Investigation of cytopathic effects (CPE) of MA104 cells treated with BBR and BBR-incubated rotavirus indicates that BBR could effectively inhibit the replication of rotavirus. CPEs were not observed in the cells inoculated with rotavirus (100TCID50) which was pre-incubated with BBR for 96 hours at BBR concentration of 283 µg/mL. Therefore, the study provides reliable results to demonstrate the ability of BBR to inhibit the replication of rotavirus.

The influence of precursor solutions containing an amount of silver bismuth sulfide nanoparticles (AgBiS2 NPs) on the characteristics of CH3NH3PbI3 perovskites solar cells

The utilization of organo-metal halide perovskites as absorbers in thin-film solar cells has garnered considerable interest from the scientific community in recent times. In this study, we present the introduction of silver bismuth sulfide nanoparticles (AgBiS2 NPs) doped into perovskite thin films composed of CH3NH3PbI3 thin film. Our results demonstrate that the perovskites' morphology and structure were significantly improved. The effects of AgBiS2 NPs concentration on the optical, mechanical, and crystallographic properties of CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite thin films were investigated. The findings from the structure investigations revealed that an increase in the concentration of AgBiS2 NPs resulted in a transition from a low-crystalline to a polycrystalline structure of the perovskite thin films. An elevation in the concentration of AgBiS2 NPs from 2 to 8 mg/mL led to the development of perovskite films of superior quality, consisting entirely of PbI3 and CH3NH3. These films exhibited almost impeccable deposition, compactness, and uniformity, and their particle size reached an approximate value of 1.3 μm. Furthermore, an increase in the optical absorption coefficient (∼105 cm−1) in the visible spectrum and subsequent enhancements in photoluminescence (PL) and ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) absorption spectroscopy serve as further evidence of the film's enhanced quality. When AgBiS2 NPs are doped into perovskites, the films' quality is significantly improved; they acquire a uniform surface morphology, an exceptional crystal structure, and enhanced light absorption, all of which contribute to accelerated PL quenching and charge transfer. Power conversion efficiency (PCE) was enhanced across all photovoltaic parameters through the use of larger granules in bulk-heterojunction solar cells, as opposed to undoped heterojunction solar cells. The PCE of the perovskite device with CH3NH3PbI3 base is 17.04 % at the optimal concentration of 6 mg/mL AgBiS2 NPs. These findings indicate that the doping of CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite thin films with AgBiS2 NPs is essential for the achievement of high crystallinity, a large particle size, and a high absorption coefficient. These properties are advantageous for the high-power conversion efficiency of solar cell applications.

Preparation and Characterization of Pyramids/Particles NiO/SnO2 Composite for Sorption and Separation of Molybdenum and Zirconium Ions from Some Synthetic Fission Products

AbstractPyramids/particles of NiO/SnO2 composite (NS7) was produced by applying the sol–gel autocombustion method. The produced composite was investigated using different techniques, X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, dynamic light scattering, ultraviolet–visible absorbance spectroscopy, and BET surface area then was applied for the adsorption and separation of molybdenum and zirconium ions from lanthanum, strontium, and cesium. 3D pyramids of NiO and particles of SnO2 are confirmed in the composite with a homogeneous mesoporous structure. The composite has good affinity for zirconium and molybdenum ions with fast kinetics and Qmax of 27.1 and 33.3 mg/g, respectively, low affinity for lanthanum, and negligible affinity for strontium and cesium. The sorption mechanism is physical sorption and endothermic in nature. The adsorbed Zr(IV), Mo(VI), and La(III) ions were separated using the desorption process as the following sequence: First, 95 ± 2% (14.3 ppm) of the loaded La was desorbed by washing with double distilled water. Then 96 ± 2% (41.3 ppm) of the loaded Zr was recovered by 1 M potassium chloride without interfering ions. Finally, 98 ± 2% (42.88 ppm) of Mo is desorbed by 1 M sodium acetate solution. The NS7 composite can be reused five times successfully.

A Dy(III) Coordination Polymer Material as a Dual-Functional Fluorescent Sensor for the Selective Detection of Inorganic Pollutants.

A Dy(III) coordination polymer (CP), [Dy(spasds)(H2O)2]n (1) (Na2Hspasds = 5-(4-sulfophenylazo)salicylic disodium salt), has been synthesized using a hydrothermal method and characterized. 1 features a 2D layered structure, where the spasda3- anions act as pentadentate ligands, adopting carboxylate, sulfonate and phenolate groups to bridge with four Dy centers in η3-μ1: μ2, η2-μ1: μ1, and monodentate coordination modes, respectively. It possesses a unique (4,4)-connected net with a Schläfli symbol of {44·62}{4}2. The luminescence study revealed that 1 exhibited a broad fluorescent emission band at 392 nm. Moreover, the visual blue color has been confirmed by the CIE plot. 1 can serve as a dual-functional luminescent sensor toward Fe3+ and MnO4- through the luminescence quenching effect, with limits of detection (LODs) of 9.30 × 10-7 and 1.19 × 10-6 M, respectively. The LODs are relatively low in comparison with those of the reported CP-based sensors for Fe3+ and MnO4-. In addition, 1 also has high selectivity and remarkable anti-interference ability, as well as good recyclability for at least five cycles. Furthermore, the potential application of the sensor for the detection of Fe3+ and MnO4- was studied through simulated wastewater samples with different concentrations. The possible sensing mechanisms were investigated using Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-Vis) absorption spectroscopy and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results revealed that the luminescence turn-off effects toward Fe3+ and MnO4- were caused by competitive absorption and photoinduced electron transfer (PET), and competitive absorption and inner filter effect (IFE), respectively.

New insights on thermal ageing of electrical insulating oils as revealed from photoluminescence and absorption spectroscopy

AbstractRecently, significant efforts have been exerted to replace mineral oil with environmentally friendly oils due to safety and environmental issues. However, there is a need to clarify the physical mechanisms behind the ageing impact of these oils. The authors use advanced optical spectroscopy techniques in correlation with dielectric measurements to understand the ageing processes in environmentally friendly oils as well as mineral oil. Firstly, different samples of environmentally friendly oils and mineral oil were utilised to investigate the ageing mechanism. The samples were subjected to different ageing periods using a thermal accelerated ageing process. Secondly, the severity of the produced byproducts due to the oil degradation is examined based on several measured properties representing macroscopic and microscopic categories. The macroscopic category was evaluated through dielectric properties, including breakdown voltage, dielectric permittivity, and dissipation factor. The microscopic category, on the other hand, was assessed using techniques such as ultraviolet–visible absorption spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopy. These techniques enabled a deep understanding of the molecular‐level changes occurring in the oil under ageing conditions, thereby getting new insights into oil ageing mechanisms. It is worth mentioning that natural ester oil demonstrated the most favourable performance across various properties under ageing conditions.

Preparation, characterization and enhancement of intestinal iron absorption activity of β-casein phosphopeptides-iron chelate

In this study, the β-casein phosphopeptides (β-CPPs) was enzymatically prepared from β-casein, followed by the preparation of β-casein phosphopeptides-iron chelate (β-CPPs-Fe). The results of Ultraviolet–Visible absorption spectroscopy (UV) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) indicated that the -COOH, O-H, N-H, and P-O-C of the β-CPPs may chelate with iron during the chelation. The amino acids involved in the chelation process were predominantly pSer, Tyr, Trp, and Phe. The scanning electron microscopy showed that due to β-CPPs combined with iron, the microsurface of β-CPPs-Fe displayed a predominantly loose porous structure. After the chelation with iron, the particle size distribution and zeta potential of β-CPPs-Fe increased. In vitro simulated gastrointestinal digestion revealed that β-CPPs-Fe demonstrated a significant increase in iron solubility compared to FeSO4·7 H2O (p < 0.05). At the endpoint of transport (180 min) in Caco-2 intestinal epithelial cell model, the amount of transferred iron for β-CPPs and β-CPPs-Fe increased by 30 % and 57 %, respectively, compared to the control group. Both β-CPPs and β-CPPs-Fe exhibited favorable effects on enhancing iron absorption, with the promotional impact of β-CPPs-Fe being notably more pronounced. The experimental findings establish a theoretical foundation for the industrial implementation of iron-fortified food products.

Facile preparation of graphene oxide/Poly (N‐Isopropylacrylamide‐co‐acrylic acid) composite thin film and its quartz crystal microbalance humidity sensing property

AbstractThe composite microgels were synthesized from N‐Isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) and acrylic acid (AA) monomers in the presence of graphene oxide (GO) using an in situ radical copolymerization method. The successful preparation of these composite microgels was investigated through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), ultraviolet visible absorption spectroscopy (UV–vis), and Raman spectroscopy. Due to the hydrophilic properties of GO and the microgels containing oxygenated groups (OH, COOH, and CONH2), quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) sensors can be fabricated by spraying the GO/P(NIPAM‐co‐AA) dispersion onto QCM sensors as sensitive coating materials. The results indicate a notable enhancement in the performance of GO/P(NIPAM‐co‐AA) modified QCM humidity sensor, compared to QCM sensors modified with either GO or P(NIPAM‐co‐AA) microgels alone. This improvement is mainly evidenced by higher sensitivity and reduced moisture hysteresis. The humidity sensing mechanism is based on the combined effect of GO and P(NIPAM‐co‐AA) microgels, which synergistically enhance the sensor's performance. Additionally, the results from water contact angle measurements, laser scanning confocal microscopy (LSCM), and scanning electron microscope (SEM) show that GO/P(NIPAM‐co‐AA) exhibits greater roughness and stronger hydrophilicity than either GO or P(NIPAM‐co‐AA) microgels alone. These properties make GO/P(NIPAM‐co‐AA) an effective moisture‐sensitive material for QCM sensors.

Green synthesis of gold nanoparticles using Pelargonium Graveolens leaf extract: characterization and anti-microbial properties (An in-vitro study)

Background In recent years, there has been a notable increase in the level of attention devoted to exploring capabilities of nanoparticles, specifically gold nanoparticles AuNPs, within context of modern times. AuNPs possess distinct biophysical properties, as a novel avenue as an antibacterial agent targeting Streptococcus Mutans and Candida Albicans. The aim of this study to create a nano-platform that has the potential to be environmentally sustainable, in addition to exhibiting exceptional antimicrobial properties against Streptococcus Mutans as well as Candida Albicans. Methods this study involved utilization of Pelargonium Graveolens leaves extract as a cost effective and environmentally sustainable approach for the green synthesis of AuNPs. Subsequently, physicochemical characteristics were assessed employing a variety of analytical methods, including as transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope, Zeta potential, Ultraviolet visible absorption spectroscopy, and Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The antimicrobial efficacy against Streptococcus Mutans and Candida Albicans was evaluated. Nanoparticles of various shapes, including hexagonal, spherical, semi-spherical, and triangular, were synthesized. These nanoparticles exhibited a mean particle size of 294nm and demonstrated low degree of aggregation. These nanoparticles exhibited long-term stability and were capable of facilely combining with diverse bioactive compounds. Results The study demonstrated that AuNPs which is synthesized by green methods display potent antimicrobial properties. Conclusion Utilization of Pelargonium Graveolens AuNPs may exhibit a promising potential as an antibacterial agent against Streptococcus Mutans and Candida Albicans. Nanoparticles (NPs) have the potential to serve as a novel approach for addressing pathogen infections as well as for biomedical, dental and pharmaceutical purposes in the future.

Development of electrospun electroactive polyurethane membranes for bone repairing.

To fabricate electroactive fibrous membranes and provide simulated bioelectric micro-environment for bone regeneration mimicking nature periosteum, a series of electroactive polyurethanes (PUAT) were synthesized using amino-capped aniline trimers (AT) and lysine derivatives as chain extenders. These PUAT were fabricated into fibrous membranes as guided bone tissue regeneration membranes (GBRMs) via electrospinning. The ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) absorption spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry (CV) of PUAT copolymers showed that the electroactive PUAT fibrous membranes had good electroactivity. Besides, the introduction of AT significantly improved the hydrophobicity and thermal stability of PUAT fibrous membranes and decreased the degradation rate of PUAT fibers in vitro. With the increasing content of AT incorporated into copolymers, the tensile strength and Young's modulus of PUAT fibrous membranes increased from 4MPa (PUAT0) to 15MPa (PUAT10) and from 2.1MPa (PUAT0) to 18MPa (PUAT10), respectively. The cell morphology and proliferation of rat mesenchymal stem cells (rMSCs) on PUAT fibers indicated that the incorporation of AT enhanced the cell attachment and proliferation. Moreover, the expression levels of OCN, CD31, and VEGF secreted by rMSCs on PUAT fibers increased with the increasing content of AT. In conclusion, an electroactive polyurethane fibrous membrane mimicking natural periosteum was prepared via electrospinning and showed good potential application in guiding bone tissue regeneration.

Efficient catalytic removal of phenolic pollutants by laccase from Coriolopsis gallica: Binding interaction and polymerization mechanism

Laccase is a green catalyst that can efficiently catalyze phenolic pollutants, and its catalytic efficiency is closely related to the interaction between enzyme and substrates. To investigate the binding effects between enzyme and phenolic pollutants, phenol, p-chlorophenol, and bisphenol A were used as substrates in this study. We focused on the removal and catalytic mechanism of these pollutants in water using yellow laccase derived from Coriolopsis gallica. The enzymatic catalytic products were characterized using Ultraviolet-Visible Absorption Spectroscopy (UV–Vis), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS), and the catalytic mechanism of laccase on phenolic pollutants was further explored by molecular docking. Based on the structural characterization and molecular docking results, the possible polymerization pathways of these phenolic compounds were speculated. Laccase catalyzed phenol to produce phenolic hydroxyl radicals, their para-radicals, and ortho-radicals, which polymerized to form oligomers linked by benzene‑oxygen-benzene and benzene-benzene. P-chlorophenol produced phenolic hydroxyl radicals and their ortho-radicals, polymerizing to form oligomers connected by benzene‑oxygen-benzene or benzene-benzene. The CC bond of the isopropyl group of bisphenol A broke to formed an intermediate product, which was further polymerized to formed a benzene‑oxygen-benzene linked oligomer.

Cytotoxic properties of Pelargonium graveolens leaf extract and its green-synthesized gold nanoparticles (in vitro study)

ObjectiveThis study aimed to assess the cytotoxic effects of an extract from Pelargonium graveolens leaves and green-synthesized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) in a mouthwash when used as a substitute for commercial mouthwashes. Human dermal fibroblasts from neonates (HDFn) were used in this study that done in vitro, because their characteristics were nearly identical to those of human gingival fibroblasts. MethodIn this study, the green synthesis of AuNPs using extracts from P. graveolens leaves was investigated as a sustainable and economical method. Then, using a range of analytical techniques, the physicochemical properties were evaluated, such as transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and ultraviolet visible absorption spectroscopy (UV–Vis), so the preparations and analytical techniques of P. graveolens gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) take little time is about 10 days. The current study used the 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5 diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide Mosmann's Tetrazolium Toxicity (MTT) to study the cytotoxic effects of P. graveolens leaf extract with P. graveolens gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) utilizing a human fibroblast-derived standard cell line. ResultsVarious doses (1000, 500, 250, 100, 50, 25, 12.5, 6.25, and 3.125 μg/mL) of P. graveolens AuNPs were used to assess cytotoxicity, demonstrating little cytotoxic effects (approximately below 20% toxicity). A high level of biocompatibility was observed between the P. graveolens AuNPs and normal human fibroblasts. ConclusionThe mouthwash made using green synthetic AuNPs obtained from P. graveolens leaf extract show high level of biocompatibility and has low cytotoxicity. Therefore, herbal mouthwash formulations can serve as a viable substitute for chemical mouthwashes.

A green plant-derived fluorescent polyphenol: Investigating the fluorescence properties of ellagic acid in diverse solvents

Ellagic acid (EA), a natural and environmentally friendly polyphenol, positively impacts human health and is widely used in the food and medical industries. It features a well-organized planar structure with an extensive sp2 carbon-conjugated area and four phenolic hydroxyl groups, making it favorable for light energy absorption and fluorescent emission. This positions EA as a promising candidate for advanced fluorescence applications. To date, the fluorescence properties of EA have not been thoroughly investigated. In this research, we comprehensively examined the fluorescence properties of EA in various solvents—including alkaline aqueous, alcoholic, nitrogenous, other organic solvents, and polyethylene glycols (PEGs)—using transient/steady-state fluorescence spectroscopy, ultraviolet–visible absorption spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and density functional theory calculations. Additionally, the relationship between structural changes of EA in these solvents and its fluorescence properties was deeply investigated. It was discovered that general solvation effects (solvent polarity effects), hydrogen bonding effects, and viscosity effects are the main ways that solvents alter the optical characteristics of EA. EA exhibits outstanding fluorescence characteristics in PEG400, creating a bright green fluorescence with the highest Stokes shift at 170 nm among the 32 organic solvents and alkaline aqueous solutions examined. This study is both foundational and essential, setting the stage for advancing the research on EA-based fluorescent materials in future endeavors.

Applications of Nanozymes in Chiral-Molecule Recognition through Electrochemical and Ultraviolet-Visible Analysis.

Chiral molecules have similar physicochemical properties, which are different in terms of physiological activities and toxicities, rendering their differentiation and recognition highly significant. Nanozymes, which are nanomaterials with inherent enzyme-like activities, have garnered significant interest owing to their high cost-effectiveness, enhanced stability, and straightforward synthesis. However, constructing nanozymes with high activity and enantioselectivity remains a significant challenge. This review briefly introduces the synthesis methods of chiral nanozymes and systematically summarizes the latest research progress in enantioselective recognition of chiral molecules based on electrochemical methods and ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy. Moreover, the challenges and development trends in developing enantioselective nanozymes are discussed. It is expected that this review will provide new ideas for the design of multifunctional chiral nanozymes and broaden the application field of nanozymes.

Tetracycline degradation in the system of peracetic acid activation by liquid discharge plasma

The oxidative degradation ability of peracetic acid (PAA) for organic pollutants can be enhanced by different activation methods. This study investigated the degradation efficiency and mechanisms of tetracycline (TC) using PAA activated by liquid-phase discharge plasma. An 86.08 % degradation efficiency for TC after 60 min treatment was achieved in the Plasma/PAA system, much higher than that of the sole Plasma (46.64 %) and PAA (15.19 %). Acidic conditions and neutral conditions were more favorable for TC removal than alkaline conditions. Inorganic ions generally inhibited TC degradation, though notably, low concentrations of Cl− and NO3− promoted it. Free radical quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis confirmed the crucial roles of OH, RO, and 1O2 in TC degradation. Three-dimensional fluorescence spectroscopy (3DFS) and ultraviolet–visible absorption spectroscopy (UV–VIS) elucidated the TC degradation mechanism, revealing key aspects of antibiotic structural decomposition. Further analysis of the degradation products by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) indicated three potential degradation pathways. Biotoxicity evaluations indicated that the synergistic system significantly reduced the biotoxicity of the degradation products. This study demonstrated an efficient method for plasma-activated PAA in degrading persistent pharmaceutical pollutants. It also confirmed the system’s applicability across a broad spectrum of organic pollutants and water bodies, highlighting its potential for a wide range of environmental protection applications.

Visible-light responsive CuO-ZnO nanostructure synthesized using Muntingia calabura extract for efficient H2O2 evolution and organic pollutant degradation

In this study, ZnO-CuO heterostructures were synthesized via a green approach using Muntingia calabura leaf extract with insights into the precursor ratio for enhanced photocatalytic performance. The synthesized materials were characterized by modern analytic methods, including X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry, which elucidated the presence of CuO nanospheres and ZnO semi-cuboids. Thanks to a lower bandgap of 2.24 eV compared to pristine ZnO (2.82 eV), better visible light absorption, and longer charge lifetime, the optimal ZC16 sample, corresponding to a Cu:Zn ratio of 1:16, achieved a hydrogen peroxide production of 350.23 μM under visible light that was further increased to 478.98 μM with oxygen aeration. In addition, ZC16 also demonstrated excellent photodegradation performance towards malachite green (95.82 %) and tetracycline (97.78 %). Disclosure into the photocatalytic mechanism of both processes revealed the significant roles of active radicals, which have proven the environmentally friendly and cost-efficient synthesis pathway of ZnO-CuO heterostructures for environmental remediation and clean energy applications.

Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured Cerium-Doped Zinc Oxide Thin Films for Selective Nitrogen Dioxide Gas Sensing Applications

Zinc oxide thin films doped with cerium were synthesized through facile spray pyrolysis technique and subsequently characterized via an array of analytical methods, including X-ray diffraction, ultraviolet-visible diffused reflectance absorption spectroscopy, photoluminescence, scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy techniques. The operative mechanism of the semiconductor metal oxide gas sensors is predicated on the modulation of electrical conductivity in response to varying gaseous atmospheres, under the influence of disparate thermal conditions. The nitrogen dioxide gas-sensing performance of the films demonstrated a noteworthy gas response of 18% at an elevated temperature of 400°C for a concentration of 100 ppm, accompanied by rapid response and recovery times of 23 and 60 s, respectively.

A study on structural and optical properties of the synthesized PVP capped Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles

Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles, capped with a polymer, have been effectively synthesized using a chemical precipitation method at a relatively low reaction temperature of 60 °C. The present study examines the structural and optical properties of ZnO Nanoparticles (NPs) that have been synthesized and capped with different weight percentages of PVP (Polyvinyl Pyrrolidone). To investigate these properties, advanced analytical techniques including X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), Ultra Violet-visible (UV–vis) absorption spectroscopy are employed. The XRD analysis reveals that the synthesized ZnO samples have a hexagonal wurzite structure, regardless of adding capping agent. The Williamson-Hall (W-H) analysis, a commonly used method, estimates the strain present in synthesized materials. The SEM image depicts ZnO NPs that have a nearly spherical form and are seen to be agglomerated. The UV–vis absorption measurements demonstrate a phenomenon known as blue shift when compared to the absorption characteristic of bulk ZnO.

Enhancement of Calcium Chelating Activity in Peptides from Sea Cucumber Ovum through Phosphorylation Modification.

Recently, phosphorylation has been applied to peptides to enhance their physiological activity, taking advantage of its modification benefits and the extensive study of functional peptides. In this study, water-soluble peptides (WSPs) of sea cucumber ovum were phosphorylated in order to improve the latter's calcium binding capacity and calcium absorption. Enzymatic hydrolysis methods were screened via ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy (UV-Vis), the fluorescence spectrum, and calcium chelating ability. Phosphorylated water-soluble peptides (P-WSPs) were characterized via high-performance liquid chromatography, the circular dichroism spectrum, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-Vis spectroscopy, surface hydrophobicity, and fluorescence spectroscopy. The phosphorus content, calcium chelation rate and absorption rate were investigated. The results demonstrated that phosphorylation enhanced the calcium chelating capacity of WSPs, with the highest capacity reaching 0.96 mmol/L. Phosphate ions caused esterification events, and the carboxyl, amino, and phosphate groups of WSPs and P-WSPs interacted with calcium ions to form these bonds. Calcium-chelated phosphorylated water-soluble peptides (P-WSPs-Ca) demonstrated outstanding stability (calcium retention rates > 80%) in gastrointestinal processes. Our study indicates that these chelates have significant potential to develop into calcium supplements with superior efficacy, bioactivity, and stability.

Green synthesis of gold nanoparticles using Pelargonium Graveolens leaf extract: characterization and anti-microbial properties (An in-vitro study).

In recent years, there has been a notable increase in the level of attention devoted to exploring capabilities of nanoparticles, specifically gold nanoparticles AuNPs, within context of modern times. AuNPs possess distinct biophysical properties, as a novel avenue as an antibacterial agent targeting Streptococcus Mutans and Candida Albicans. The aim of this study to create a nano-platform that has the potential to be environmentally sustainable, in addition to exhibiting exceptional antimicrobial properties against Streptococcus Mutans as well as Candida Albicans. this study involved utilization of Pelargonium Graveolens leaves extract as a cost effective and environmentally sustainable approach for the green synthesis of AuNPs. Subsequently, physicochemical characteristics were assessed employing a variety of analytical methods, including as transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope, Zeta potential, Ultraviolet visible absorption spectroscopy, and Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The antimicrobial efficacy against Streptococcus Mutans and Candida Albicans was evaluated. Nanoparticles of various shapes, including hexagonal, spherical, semi-spherical, and triangular, were synthesized. These nanoparticles exhibited a mean particle size of 294nm and demonstrated low degree of aggregation. These nanoparticles exhibited long-term stability and were capable of facilely combining with diverse bioactive compounds. The study demonstrated that AuNPs which is synthesized by green methods display potent antimicrobial properties. Utilization of Pelargonium Graveolens AuNPs may exhibit a promising potential as an antibacterial agent against Streptococcus Mutans and Candida Albicans. Nanoparticles (NPs) have the potential to serve as a novel approach for addressing pathogen infections as well as for biomedical, dental and pharmaceutical purposes in the future.
