In this study, using a new experimental method and a micro force sensor, we report the friction measurement between the ultrathin Pt wire and microprobes. The measurement was based on sliding of a simply supported wire under bending load applied by closely positioned two opposite probes. Both the friction and bending force measurements are performed by the same sensor under the observation of a high-resolution digital microscope. To check the measurement accuracy and also to show a typical use of friction behavior, the measured friction is used in the finite element (FE) analysis of the elastic-plastic bending behavior of the wire material, and a very good agreement between the FE analysis results and the measurements is achieved.
