What has been produced is an excellent reference source which someone coming afresh to an aspect of orofacial pain, could use to their advantage. On the behaviour of UK money, velocity, prices, and output in the gold standard period: 1871–1913

This article provides evidence in support of cointegration among the UK money supply, real output and the price level in the gold standard period, 1871–1913. The series respond to eliminate short run deviations from the long run equilibrium relation of the equation of exchange. Cointegration is also observed between the UK and US price levels, with the former also responding to eliminate short run deviations from the long run equilibrium relation among the two price levels. Our results for the components of the quantity equation support arguments that the Bank of England moved short-term interest rates in response to changes in domestic economic activity, taken to be an indicator of future changes in its gold reserve position. Our evidence concerning the UK–US price levels supports the rising position of the United States as an economic power during this period.

Modeling tourism: A fully identified VECM approach

System-based cointegration methods have become popular tools for economic analysis and forecasting. However, the identification of structural relationships is often problematic. Using a theory-directed sequential reduction method suggested by Hall, Henry and Greenslade [Hall, S. G., Henry, S., & Greenslade, J. (2002). On the identification of cointegrated systems in small samples: A modelling strategy with an application to UK wages and prices. Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, 26, 1517–1537], we estimate a vector error correction model of Hawaii tourism, where both demand and supply-side influences are important. We identify reasonable long-run equilibrium relationships, and Diebold–Mariano tests for forecast accuracy demonstrate satisfactory forecasting performance.

Did the National Minimum Wage Affect UK Prices?

One potential channel through which the effects of the minimum wage could be directed is that firms who employ minimum wage workers could pass on any resulting higher labour costs in the form of higher prices. This study looks at the effects of the introduction and subsequent uprating of the minimum wage on the prices of UK goods and services, comparing the prices of goods produced by industries in which UK minimum wage workers make up a substantial share of total costs with the prices of goods and services that make less use of minimum wage labour. Using sectoral-level price data matched to survey data on the share of minimum wage workers in each sector, it is hard to find much evidence of significant price changes in the months that correspond to the uprating of the NMW. However over the longer term, prices in several minimum wage sectors – notably take-away foods, canteen meals, hotel services and domestic services – do appear to have risen significantly faster than prices of non-minimum wage sectors. These effects were particularly significant in the four years immediately after the introduction of the minimum wage.

What Lies Beneath: What Can Disaggregated Data Tell Us about the Behaviour of Prices?

This paper uses a factor-augmented vector autoregression technique to examine the role that macroeconomic and sector-specific factors play in UK price fluctuations at the aggregate and disaggregated levels. Macroeconomic factors are less important for disaggregated prices than aggregate ones. There also appears to be significant aggregation bias - the persistence of aggregate inflation series is much higher than the underlying persistence across the range of disaggregated price series. Our results suggest that monetary policy affects relative prices in the short to medium term, and that the degree of competition within industries plays a role in determining pricing behaviour.

Pricing consistency across direct and indirect distribution channels in South West UK hotels

This study seeks to ascertain if hotels across the South West of the UK price their room nights consistently across each of the distribution channels utilized, such as the hotel's website, `bricks and mortar' travel agents, third party online booking systems, telephone, and emails. While studies examining pricing consistency have been done among larger hotel chains or groups, there had been no studies looking at smaller independent hotels, particularly hotels in the UK. The results will suggest that hotel pricing across channels show no comparable difference but indicates that the star rating of a hotel plays a vital role in pricing decisions and in the methods of distribution utilized.
