RIS-Aided Cell-Free MIMO System: Perfect and Imperfect CSI Design for Energy Efficiency

Thanks to the development of the 6th generation mobile network that makes it possible for us to move towards an intelligent ubiquitous information society, among which some novel technologies represented by cell-free network has also attracted widespread academic attention. Cell-free network has brought distinguished gains to the network capacity with its strong ability against inter-cell interference. Unfortunately, further improvement demands more base stations (BSs) to be settled, which incurs steep cost increase. To address this issue, reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) with low cost and power consumption is introduced in this paper to replace some of the trivial BSs in the system, then, a RIS-aided cell-free network paradigm is formulated. Our objective is to solve the weighted sumrate (WSR) maximization problem by jointly optimizing the beamforming design at BSs and the phase shift of RISs. Due to the non-convexity of the formulated problem, this paper investigates a joint optimizing scheme based on block coordinate descent (BCD) method. Subsequently, on account of the majority of the precious work reposed perfect channel state information (CSI) setup for the ultimate performance, this paper also extends the proposed algorithm to the case wherein CSI is imperfect by utilizing successive convex approximation (SCA). Finally, simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme shows great performance and robustness in perfect CSI scenario as well as the imperfect ones.

The Core Values of Information Literacy in the Ubiquitous Information Society

This research aims to study the perception of school practitioners on the core values of information literacy in the ubiquitous information society. An information literacy framework has been proposed that includes four dimensions and eleven derived standards. Seventeen focus group discussion sessions were conducted to gain an understanding of the views of school practitioners. The research findings show that information literacy education should be designed with the humanistic rationale of guiding learners to develop information processing skills, which requires both cognitive capability and the associated affective elements. Students should further develop in the meta-cognitive and socio-cultural domains.

Evaluation of network service model based on network convergence

Technologies such as Bluetooth, RFID, WiFi, 4G, and the Internet of things are mutually converged with ADSL and fiber to the home network. Users can get information in the forms of word, voice, images, etc. through ubiquitous networks including the fixed telephone, the mobile telephone, the television, the computer, and diversified informational zed terminal equipment. Ubiquity informatization may be the trend of future network development, which is the development direction of the ubiquitous intelligent comprehensive network information society. Its physical representation is the appearance of ubiquitous network or the named universal network. It represents the ubiquitous prosperity that all people, all organizations, and industries can get benefits from the ubiquity informatization. This article studies the internal and external structures of network service model and introduces technology dynamics, demand dynamics, competition, and security as adjustment variables. Then, the evaluation model of network service based on network convergence is proposed and tested. The test results prove the validity of the evaluation model.

RFID 표준특허 데이터 분석을 통한 RFID 기술 동향

RFID 기술은 RFID 통신, 이동통신 및 네트워크 인프라, 그리고 정보 처리 기술이 결합된 대표적인 융합 기술이다. RFID 기술은 사용자의 주변 사물에 대한 정보 소통을 가능케 함으로써, 언제, 어디서나, 원하는 정보 서비스를 제공받을 수 있는 유비쿼터스 정보 사회의 기반 기술이라 할 수 있다. 우리나라는 RFID 기술에 대한 조기 개발 및 표준화 노력을 경주하여, 기술 주도권 확보와 함께 국제 표준화를 선도하고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 RFID 표준과 관련이 있는 국제 표준화기구(ISO, IEC, ITU)에 선언된 RFID 표준특허 데이터를 분석하여 RFID 기술 동향에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. 특히, 2013년 6월 기준으로 RFID 기술 관련 표준화를 담당하고 있는 국제 표준화기구인 ISO, ISO/IEC JTC1, ITU-T에 선언된 표준특허 906건을 대상으로 분석을 진행하였다. RFID technology as a typical convergence technology combines RFID communication, mobile communication and network infrastructure, and information processing technology. As it enables users to communicate with the surroundings, RFID technology is now recognized to serve as the basis technology for the ubiquitous information society where users can get the needed information anytime and anywhere. Through lots of efforts for the early technology development and standardization activities on RFID technology, Korea has been leading technology standardization as well as technology initiatives. Thus in this paper, we discuss the RFID technology trend by analyzing RFID standard patent data which is declared in international organization for standardization (ISO, IEC, ITU). Especially, we analyzed 906 standard patents data that declared in International organization for standardization (SO, ISO/IEC JTC1, ITU-T) on June 2013.

모바일 RFID 기술 표준화 활동 및 전략

모바일 RFID 기술은 RFID 통신, 이동통신 및 네트워크 인프라, 그리고 정보 처리 기술이 결합된 대표적인 융합 기술이다. 모바일 RFID 기술은 사용자의 주변 사물에 대한 정보 소통을 가능케 함으로써, 언제, 어디서나, 원하는 정보 서비스를 제공받을 수 있는 유비쿼터스 정보 사회의 기반 기술이라 할 수 있다. 우리나라는 모바일 RFID 기술에 대한 조기 개발 및 표준화 노력을 경주하여, 기술 주도권 확보와 함께 국제 표준화를 선도하고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 모바일 RFID 기술의 국내외 표준화 활동 및 현황을 정리하고, 주요 표준화 이슈를 살펴보고자 한다. 또한 제반 영향 요인에 대한 분석을 통해 모바일 RFID 표준화 전략을 제시하고자 한다. Ubiquitous city: Urban technologies, urban infrastructure and urban informatics

South Korea continues to lead the way in digital opportunity with its recent, innovative and ubiquitous city projects. The u-city initiative in South Korea is a national urban development project that focuses on strengthening the role of information and communication technologies in civic planning and management. This study tracks the changing dynamics driving the information society initiative of South Korea to evaluate the process of design and development of u-city. This study reviews qualitative data related to the u-city projects, describes the transformations and translation of this data in the public, political, and social discourse, and discusses the prospectus of a ubiquitous information society environment. The findings raise fundamental, practical questions about the role of ubiquitous computing in shaping our future cities. The findings show that there are more challenges ahead than prospects, despite the fact that the u-city has all the advanced technological components for a positive development. The South Korean u-city is typically more prone to problems related to the lack of social infrastructure, market restrictions, political quagmires and vested financial interests. The paper discusses the deficiencies of the South Korean approach, namely a lack of holistic approach by integrating technological possibilities with social application needs.

Privacy, trust and policy-making: Challenges and responses

The authors contend that the emerging ubiquitous Information Society (aka ambient intelligence, pervasive computing, ubiquitous networking and so on) will raise many privacy and trust issues that are context dependent. These issues will pose many challenges for policy-makers and stakeholders because people's notions of privacy and trust are different and shifting. People's attitudes towards privacy and protecting their personal data can vary significantly according to differing circumstances. In addition, notions of privacy and trust are changing over time. The authors provide numerous examples of the challenges facing policy-makers and identify some possible responses, but they see a need for improvements in the policy-making process in order to deal more effectively with varying contexts. They also identify some useful policy-making tools. They conclude that the broad brush policies of the past are not likely to be adequate to deal with the new challenges and that we are probably entering an era that will require development of “micro-policies”. While the new technologies will pose many challenges, perhaps the biggest challenge of all will be to ensure coherence of these micro-policies.

Sociotechnical issues for the ubiquitous information society in 2010

AbstractImpact of the ubiquitous information technology on our society is so significant that directing technological development and preparing institutional apparatus are quite important and urgent. The present paper elaborates, with the efforts by both humanity and engineering disciplines, to find the sociotechnical issues of ubiquitous information society in 2010 by inspecting social implications of emerging technology as well as social expectations. In order to deliberate the issues, scenarios are developed that describe possible life in ubiquitous information society. The derived issues cover integrating information technology and the human body, producing smart sharable environment, protecting individual rights, fostering new service business, and forming community. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A critique of Korean National Information Strategy: Case of national information infrastructures

Abstract In 2004, the Korean government launched the IT839 project with the objective of converting Korea into a ubiquitous information society. This study investigates the role of the Korean government in the development of the national information infrastructure and the realization of IT839 vision. This paper reviews the historic and individual data related to the infrastructure project, draws on the social construction of technology theory as a framework for interpreting such data, traces the transformations and translation of this data in the public, political, and social discourse, and discusses the next generation of information infrastructure. Findings imply that despite optimistic prospects and proactive drive, uncertainty still remains with respect to where IT839 will evolve and how it will impact the new information milieu.

Formative knowledge: from knowledge dichotomy to knowledge geography – knowledge management transformed by the ubiquitous information society

The ubiquitous information society gave birth to quasi‐explicit, or formative, knowledge. Formative knowledge is like explicit knowledge in that it can be copied, but unlike explicit knowledge because it is not fixed. Some manufacturers are beginning to adopt approaches to knowledge management that rely on formative knowledge. Such an approach enabled Honda to start production of its newest Civic model almost simultaneously at 12 plants around the globe in 2000. Strong fear of formative knowledge “consumption” by lead consumers made Honda use CAD/CAE networks to nurture a worldwide community of engineers to design the Civic. This innovation reduced Honda’s average model transfer time to about a half that of Toyota. Honda’s achievement suggests that a new approach to knowledge management is possible, one that lies between Japanese‐style knowledge management centered on human mediation and tacit knowledge and Western‐style knowledge management based on information technology and explicit knowledge.
