Introduction: Childhood and adolescence are the typical periods of onset of type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM1), marked by hyperglycemia and diabetic ketoacidosis. This autoimmune disease is characterized by the infiltration and destruction of insulin-secreting cells in the islets of Langerhans by lymphocytes. The fundamental role of pharmaceutical professionals in the care of patients with DM1 is essential, their involvement encompassing the management of blood glucose levels, the recommendation of appropriate dosage regimens, the recommendation of lifestyle changes and the selection of medications based on individual needs, safety, cost and efficacy. Objective: The aim of this study was to highlight the importance of the pharmacist’s role in controlling and monitoring DM in children and adolescents.. Methodology: This was a literature review carried out using materials published in databases between 2019 and 2024. Results: The pharmacist, as a qualified professional with experience in handling and managing medicines, plays a crucial role in monitoring patients with DM. Final considerations: In addition to handling medications and monitoring treatment, pharmacists provide essential guidance on the proper use of insulin and other medications, ensuring the safety and effectiveness of treatment.
