In contemporary society continuously more demands are applied to organization of allround support of gifted children. On the state-managed level various purposeful programs and specialized centers of supplementary education directed at the development of giftedness. Musical education extensively facilitates the development of personality, especially during the period of growing up. The article presents an analysis of characteristic manifestations of the self-realization of adolescents endowed with a musical type of giftedness. The aim of the carried out research is to display the specific characteristic features of the growing self-realization of adolescents who are successful in their musical activities. Those surveyed in the research were 92 participants (46 youths and 46 young girls) aged 16 and 17 studying music in special educational institutions for 7–10 years. All the respondents have had significant achievements in mastery of the art of music. The study of the particularities of this group’s self-realization made use of the “Multidimensional questionnaire of self-realization of personality” developed by professor Sergei Kudinov within the framework of a poly-systemic conception of personality. The results of empiric research have been subjected to quality and quantity analysis and mathematic-stylistic elaboration. The carried-out research disclosed the specificity of self-realization of adolescents with musical giftedness. It allows specialists in educational institutions to develop technologies to organize the psychological and pedagogical maintenance for the youth with the consideration of the specificity of manifestation of self-realization in the given age period of development of personality. Research on the effect of background music on spatial cognitive working memory based on cortical brain network

Background music has been increasingly affecting people's lives. The research on the influence of background music on working memory has become a hot topic in brain science. In this paper, an improved electroencephalography (EEG) experiment based on n-back paradigm was designed. Fifteen university students without musical training were randomly selected to participate in the experiment, and their behavioral data and the EEG data were collected synchronously in order to explore the influence of different types of background music on spatial positioning cognition working memory. The exact low-resolution brain tomography algorithm (eLORETA) was applied to localize the EEG sources and the cross-correlation method was used to construct the cortical brain function networks based on the EEG source signals. Then the characteristics of the networks under different conditions were analyzed and compared to study the effects of background music on people's working memory. The results showed that the difference of peak periods after stimulated by different types of background music were mainly distributed in the signals of occipital lobe and temporal lobe ( P < 0.05). The analysis results showed that the brain connectivity under the condition with background music were stronger than those under the condition without music. The connectivities in the right occipital and temporal lobes under the condition of rock music were significantly higher than those under the condition of classical music. The node degrees, the betweenness centrality and the clustering coefficients under the condition without music were lower than those under the condition with background music. The node degrees and clustering coefficients under the condition of classical music were lower than those under the condition of rock music. It indicates that music stimulation increases the brain activity and has an impact on the working memory, and the effect of rock music is more remarkable than that of classical music. The behavioral data showed that the response accuracy in the state of no music, classical music and rock music were 86.09% ± 0.090%, 80.96% ± 0.960% and 79.36% ± 0.360%, respectively. We conclude that background music has a negative impact on the working memory, for it takes up the cognitive resources and reduces the cognitive ability of spatial location.

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN POSTMODERN PERSPECTIVE AND ARABESQUE CULTURE, IDENTITY AND LIMINAL SPACE

The globalization that emerged with the technology developed on the basis of the industrial revolution has inevitably caused a conflict of cultures. Hybridization from conflicting cultures has revealed cultural factors that do not conform to dual definitions and are understood negatively for this nation-state understanding. Because these cultural structures are outside the cultural norms drawn by the nation-state. In this study, the existential aspect of arabesque, a hybrid culture, was examined and its relationship with identity was discussed, and then it was found that arabesque culture was related to the liminal area. And this was the reason for arabesque exclusion. In this study, it was not understood that arabesque culture evolved with the change of society, and as a result of this evolution, music types with lighter words emerged by changing in intermediate music such as taverns. Another result of the study was examined from one point of view, contrary to the assumption that the arabesque culture relationship in liminal space would be completely eliminated by improving the condition of humans. The effects of music therapy on amino acid neurotransmitters: Insights from an animal study

BackgroundThis study aimed to explore the neurobiological effects of “Chinese Traditional Five-Elements Music Therapy” on rats and to determine its effects on amino acid neurotransmitter levels, the excitatory/inhibitory(E/I) balance and the Glu-Gln cycle. MethodsMale Wistar rats were assigned at random to the experimental groups (Gong/powerful; Shang/sad; Jue/gentle; Zhi/joyful; Yu/serene music group) and the control group(n=8/group).The experimental groups were exposed daily to music(2 hours per day; mild sound pressure levels, between 50 and 60 dB) for 28 consecutive days. Finally, we hypothesized concentrations of Glu and GABA to match the music types and measured additionally Asp, Gly, Gln, and Glu/GABA ratio in striatum by UPLC-3QMS. ResultEffects in the predicted direction were observed for Gong (Glu +, GABA -); Shang (Glu -; GABA +); Jue (Glu 0; GABA 0); and Zhi (Glu +; GABA -); but not Yu music (Glu + contrary to hypothesis; GABA + as hypothesized)." In addition, significant difference in Gln levels were also present in the zhi, Gong and Yu music groups compared to the controls. ConclusionOur study showed that different melodic music produced different effects on amino acid neurotransmitter levels. “Chinese Traditional Five-Elements Music Therapy” affected the amino acid neurotransmitter levels, the E/I balance and the Glu-Gln cycle in the striatum of rats, which may reflect altered glutamatergic and GABAergic system.

Examining the effects of musical type and intensity in performing the flanker task: A test of attentional control theory applied to non-emotional distractions

Music alters the interplay between components of cognition and performance; however, there are inconclusive findings on how. One explanation may be Attentional Control Theory, which states that anxiety places demands on cognitive resources producing adverse effects on cognitive performance. Similarly, characteristics of music alter cognitive faculties resulting in poor performance. Therefore, the current study aimed to investigate effects on cognition specific to influences of music through the lens of Attentional Control Theory. In an attempt to explain how music impacts cognitive performance, we asked 141 college students (63.1% female) to complete the flanker task while listening to either lyrical or non-lyrical music at differing sound intensities. Results revealed a significant main effect of music type on flanker performance; however, no significant differences emerged with sound intensity. Findings suggest music with lyrics, rather than intensity, impairs cognition in adults, thereby elucidating the importance of avoiding music with lyrics during active tasks. Moreover, musical lyrics worsen performance by either interfering with selective attention processing of goal-relevant information or altering working memory capacity resulting in decreases in processing efficiency and performance effectiveness. Therefore, findings support the use of attentional control theory as a means of explaining differences in cognitive performance due to characteristics of music.

The Socio-Cultural Implications of Odezuruigbo Cultural Dance Music in Awka, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State

Music is an integral part of everyday life in Awka traditional community. It is a very important aspect of their culture. Music accompanies every socio-cultural activity of the people. Consequently, there are varieties of musical types practiced by various categories of people in Awka. This paper is concerned with activities of Odezuruigbo Cultural Dance Music, an outstanding women music group in Awka. It discussed amongst other things the organization and the socio-cultural implications of odezuruigbo cultural dance music. Data for this study were drawn from fieldwork, oral interview and review of related literature. The findings of this study revealed that the impact of odezuruigbo dance group in the life of Awka community is indispensable. It also revealed that some gender dichotomies in the use of some local musical instruments are gradually becoming insignificant. This study recommended that the practice of those socio-cultural festivals which promote the traditional music and dance of the people be encouraged.&#x0D; Key Words: activity, culture, cultural dance, dance music, and odezuruigbo

The Effect of Power of Agility of Core Stabilization Exercise by the Musical Type

Background/Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of core stabilization exercise combined with music of various tempo and mode on the power of agility.Method/Statistical Analysis: 65 healthy adults who didnot major in music were recruited and each participant were randomly divided five groups. All groups were performed core stabilization exercise for 3 weeks. To confirm the effect of core stabilization exercise combined with music of various tempo and mode, they were measured before and after the exercise.Findings: After applying the core stabilization exercise, the power of agility was improved in all groups, and the fast tempo groups improved the power of agility more than the slow tempo groups. However, there was no significant difference between the major mod and minor mode groups.Improvements/Applications: Tempo was affected on the power of agility. But mode was not affected on the power of agility.

Traditional Music and an Organological Study of Some Musical Instruments of Plateau State, Nigeria

Music is one of the oldest and most practiced arts in Nigerian traditional societies. The revered place of music in the lives of Nigerians is indisputable, as a consequence of its towering roles in nearly all communal events and activities. In Nigeria, music is utilized in diverse facets especially in religious, economic, martial, and political life of the people. In other words, it is unusual to preclude music from any societal event. Though these attributes pervade all Nigerian traditional societies, it is even more fascinating that every ethnic group or culture has their peculiar music with which they are recognized. Thus, there is bound to be dissimilarities in the manner in which various societies regard music as a concept, phenomenon, or how it functions in traditional life. The thrust of this paper therefore, is to examine music as a phenomenon, its roles in society, and how it is conceived by the people of Plateau. Data were gathered using ethnographic method, while interviews formed a significant part of the research tools. Some existing videos and those collected from the field were analysed by the authors. Findings from data gleaned reveal that there is a plethora of music types among the Plateau people. It is also gathered that music forms a fundamental aspect of life on the Plateau, and is widely used in virtually all communal events. However, research efforts into the different traditional music types of the people of Plateau need to be intensified and sustained over time, in order to document findings that will further lead to addressing the protracted challenge of dearth of literature in the traditional music of the area under study.

An analysis of the history and current situation of the integration of Chinese and Korean music

Since ancient times, China and South Korea have been deeply connected in politics, geography, culture, history and economy. Since the Han dynasty, the Korean peninsula was deeply influenced by Chinese culture in terms of ritual system, politics, economy, art and customs. Although there are intertwined musical elements in Chinese and Korean music, there are also many differences due to geographical, lifestyle, customs and other reasons, which forms different musical cultural systems with distinct national characteristics. After the division of North and South Korea, South Korea was greatly influenced by the western countries, and naturally formed a music style totally different from the traditional Confucian culture in terms of the development of music culture. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the South Korea in 1992, cultural communications and cooperation have become increasingly active, and the interaction and integration of music have been continuously expanded. Chinese music is also increasingly popular with South Koreans, but the breadth and depth remains to be improved. By studying the history and current situation of Chinese-Korean music integration, this paper finds that Chinese and Korean music in history interacted and integrated with Musical Instruments, instrumental music, music types, music theories and other aspects, which continuously promoted the innovation and development of their respective music art. In modern times, Korean music industrialization development model is mature, the smell of music is very sensitive, which can quickly capture the young people''s preference. And through creating singing and dancing combination and other forms to integrate the idol and music, using the power of the idol to promote the development of music, music culture output also showed a more active attitude, set off a wave of Korean music in China, the development of China''s music industry has had an important impact. Chinese music education should actively learn from the experience of Korean music development, combine the current situation and characteristics of Chinese music, take an open attitude, focus on innovation and exploration, develop closely with the modern market, achieve the goal of sound interaction between music education and music industry, and promote the diversified development of Chinese music.

Fixation Differences in Spatial Visual Perception During Multi-sensory Stimulation.

The mood and atmosphere of a service setting are essential factors in the way customers evaluate their shopping experience in a retail store environment. Scholars have shown that background music has a strong effect on consumer behavior. Retailers design novel environments in which appropriate music can elevate the shopping experience. While previous findings highlight the effects of background music on consumer behavior, the extent to which recognition of store atmosphere varies with genre of background music in sales spaces is unknown. We conducted an eye tracking experiment to evaluate the effect of background music on the perceived atmosphere of a service setting. We used a 2 (music genre: jazz song with slow tempo vs. dance song with fast tempo) × 1 (visual stimuli: image of coffee shop) within-subject design to test the effect of music genre on visual perception of a physical environment. Results show that the fixation values during the slow tempo music were at least two times higher than the fixation values during the fast tempo music and that the blink values during the fast tempo music were at least two times higher than the blink values during the slow tempo music. Notably, initial and maximum concentration differed by music type. Our findings also indicate that differences in scan paths and locations between the slow tempo music and the fast tempo music changed over time. However, average fixation values were not significantly different between the two music types.

Effect of Different Musical Types on Patient's Relaxation, Anxiety and Pain Perception during Shock Wave Lithotripsy: A Randomized Controlled Study.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of listening to different music types during extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) on the patients' pain control, anxiety level, and satisfaction. This study was a prospective single-blinded, paral-lel-group randomized clinical trial with balanced ran-domization [1:1]. A total of 150 patients who underwent first-session SWL were included in the study. The patients were randomly divided in to five groups (30 participants in each group) as follows: headphones were not put on and no music was played in Group 1 (control group); headphones were put on but no music was played in Group 2; Turkish art music was listened to with headphones in Group 3; Western classical music was listened to with headphones in Group 4; thetype of music the patient liked was listened to with headphones in Group 5. Demographic data related to patients and procedure, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-State Anxiety (STAI-SA), Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores, willingness to repeat procedure (0: never 4: happily), and patient satisfaction rates (0: poor 4: excellent) were recorded immediately after the procedure. There was a statistically significant difference between groups in terms of median VAS scores (7, 6, 4.5, 5, and 4, respectively, P<.001), whereas the VAS scores in Groups 3, 4, and 5 were significantly lower than those in Group 1 and 2 (P<.001). The median STAI-SA scores between the groups were significantly different (45, 45, 42, 45, and 40, respectively, P<.001), while the anxiety levels in Groups 3, 4, and 5 were significantly lower than those in Group 1 (P=.008, P=.018, and P<.001, respectively). Moreover, there were statistically significant differences between the groups in terms of willingness to repeat the procedure and patient satisfaction rates (P<.001). Music therapy during SWL reduced the patients' pain and anxiety scores, moreover listening to the patient's preferred music type provided greater satisfaction. Listening to the patient's preferred music type could be standardized and routinely used during SWL.

The place of music in missions work in Ghana: with reference to the church of Pentecost

This article gives a brief narrative of the role that music has played and continues to play in the churches in Ghana with particular reference to the Church of Pentecost. It begins by acknowledging that the COP as an indigenous Ghanaian church sees music as an integral part of its missions in Ghana and beyond. It then examines the musical tradition of the churches in Ghana, and examines four models of musical types in Ghanaian churches, namely, Contrafactum, Eclectic, Creative Essays of Afro-Identity and Spontaneous types. The rest of the paper focuses on the Spontaneous Type of music as the Church of Pentecost’s preference in worship and in its missional activities. It concludes with a brief comment on the importance of the Psalms in church music.

Interesting different survival status of musicians with malignant cerebral tumors

Introduction: The education of a musician may have an effect on the neuronal functions and organization of the brain, promote brain plasticity, resulting in functional and structural changes. A variety of malign cerebral tumors have affected the musician, instrumentalist or singer, at some time during their lives. No comprehensive investigation for musicians with malignant tumors has been performed yet. The aims of the study are to investigate if there is a relationship between the performed music style (classic or pop/rock) and the malignancy of the tumor.Patients and methods: The key words were ‘neurosurgery and music’ and the names of composers. We used digital catalogs like ‘Pubmed’ as well as the libraries of universities. We investigated a list of people with brain tumors from the English Wikipedia. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_with_brain_tumors).We divided musicians into two groups according to their performing of classic or rock-pop music, and their gender.Results: We found 27 classic and rock/pop musicians who suffered from malign cerebral tumors. The median survival time estimations were 18 (mean 22.33, 95% CI ranged from 7.49 to 37.17) months for pop–rock musicians and 8 (mean 8.67, 95% CI ranged from 4.13 to 12.19) months for classical music performers. However, in Cox regression analysis, performed classical music type was associated with an increased risk of early death, lesser survival time age associated with an adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) of 1.06 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.020 to 1.111; p = .004),Conclusion: In musicians with malign cerebral tumors, music type performed by musician may affect the survival status, classical musicians have a worse outcome than rock–pop musicians.

Мета публікації – виявити спільний образно-інтонаційний типаж у симфонічних композиціях Г. Холста, Г. Ціммера, Дж. Вільямса. За допомогою феноменологічного методологічного підходу визначаються характеристики тематичного матеріалу обраних зразків музики. Компаративний метод сприяє виявленню рис подібності, які й формують спільний образно-інтонаційний типаж. Г. Холст, засвоївши досвід симфоністів-попередників, зумів створити музичний аналог негативістського образу «сил зла», на основі якого творили композитори наступних поколінь.

The Various Levels of Musical Activities of The Igbo Children in Igbo Culture of Nigeria

The life of the Igbo children of Eastern Nigeria is surrounded by music and musical activities. The aim of this research is to survey the various levels of involvement of the Igbo children (from childhood to adolescence), in music learning and performance. The socio-cultural activities and similar occasions, on which these children’s music and musical activities rotate, were investigated. Some of the children’s music genres focus on entertainment, ordinary games, labour execution, character formation, learning (education) and so on. The benefits derived from performance of these genres are very rewarding. They range from making the children socially fit, to making them culturally, mentally and physically sound. The methods of imparting all musical knowledge vary according to age and music type. This research attempts the classification of these methods and brings to bare, their approaches and effectiveness as regards competence and excellence. UNIONIQUE MUSIC AS A NEW PHENOMENON OF THE MUSICAL CULTURE: ANSWERING THE MAIN QUESTIONS

In this article we will talk about the interaction of music in fundamentally different areas – academic and non-academic, in which there is an interpenetration of musical language elements, expressive means from one sphere to another is happening, and a brand new quality musical material is produced. This new kind of music we call ‘unionique music’, and the aim of this article is to describe the unionique music phenomena, to base and explain its introduction into the musicology’s use, and to define its place in the musical culture. Under the ‘academic music’ is understood the music of the West European classical tradition, under the ‘non-academic’ – such directions as jazz, rock, and folklore (ethnic). Using the method of functional analysis we examine musical compositions on three levels (composition, intonation and timbre). With the advance of internet technologies we now have an easy access to all kinds of different music that is composed in various styles and traditions. Convenience of communication made it possible for representatives of various nations to get acquainted with the musical languages of other ethnic groups and subsequently apply the elements of these languages to their creative work. This gave the ground for the emergence of a variety of musical directions in which interaction with different musical domains takes place. As a result, we now understand that the new paradigm of musical perception consists in the equality of all music types.

Compare and Contrast Different Meanings of the Term World Music/World Music

With the booming popularity of the music industry today, there has been an equally increasing demand for new or refreshing music types. Over the years, this has a resulted in alternative/non-mainstream music genres gradually being accepted as popular music. To cater for the different tastes of music for consumers, in a world where advancement in technology has accelerated globalization to unprecedented levels, music Creators are producing music that have blurred the boundaries between music genres. On the other hand World Music is one that is seen by many as one which is routed in tradition. In that aspect, world music and popular music can be seen as two contrasting categories.

Study on Water Related Music Works—A Case Study in Gaomei Wetland

Wetland environment plays an essential role in integrated watershed management and has been studied from different perspectives ranging from ecology to tourism. However, there is still little research on the relationship between wetland environmental characteristics and music works. On the belief that music works can be part of wetland environment conservation, the present research explored the possibility to characterize wetland environments with music works. It was focus on the perception of local residents towards to a wetland in terms of music works. It was a case study in Gaomei Wetland, Taiwan, which is a coastal wetland. There are 3 hypotheses in this work: (1) there is a significant difference in the music types selected for the image of the wetland by the locals in different ages and living with different distances from the wetland; (2) there a significant difference in the music speed and rhythm selected by the locals in different ages and living with different distances from the wetland; (3) there is a preference on the music segments by the locals who are older and living closer to the wetland. Through survey conducted on-site, some interesting findings were obtained and presented in this paper.
