Conexivisphaera calida gen. nov., sp. nov., a thermophilic sulfur- and iron-reducing archaeon, and proposal of Conexivisphaeraceae fam. nov., Conexivisphaerales ord. nov., and Conexivisphaeria class. nov. in the phylum Thaumarchaeota

A thermoacidophilic, anaerobic, and iron- and sulfur-reducing archaeon, strain NAS-02T, was isolated from a terrestrial hot spring in Japan, as previously reported. This organism is the first non-ammonia-oxidizing isolate in the phylum Thaumarchaeota. Here, we propose Conexivisphaera calida gen. nov., sp. nov. to accommodate this strain. The type strain of the type species is NAS-02T (=JCM 31663T=DSM 105898T). The values of 16S rRNA gene similarity and average amino acid identity between NAS-02T and its closest relatives are <86 and <42 %, respectively. Based on the phylogeny and physiology, we propose the family Conexivisphaeraceae fam. nov., the order Conexivisphaerales ord. nov. and the class Conexivisphaeria class. nov. to accommodate the novel genus.

Salinadaptatus halalkaliphilus gen. nov., sp. nov., a haloalkaliphilic archaeon isolated from salt pond in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China.

A haloalkaliphilic strain XQ-INN 246T was isolated from the sediment of a salt pond in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China. Cells of the strain were rods, motile and strictly aerobic. The strain was able to grow in the presence of 2.6-5.3 M NaCl (optimum concentration is 4.4 M) at 30-50 °C (optimum temperature is 42 °C) and pH 7.0-10.0 (optimum pH is 8.0-8.5). The whole genome sequencing of strain XQ-INN 246T revealed a genome size of 4.52 Mbp and a DNA G+C content of 62.06 mol%. Phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences and concatenated amino acid sequences of 122 single-copy conserved proteins revealed a robust lineage of the strain XQ-INN 246T with members of related genera of the family Natrialbaceae. The strain possessed the polar lipids of phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylglycerol phosphate methyl ester. No glycolipids were detected. Based on phylogenetic analysis, phenotypic characteristics, chemotaxonomic properties and genome relatedness, the isolate was proposed as the type strain of a novel species of a new genus within the family Natrialbaceae, for which the name Salinadaptatus halalkaliphilus gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is XQ-INN 246T (=CGMCC 1.16692T=JCM 33751T).

Poseidonibacter parvus sp. nov., isolated from a squid.

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, short rod-shaped, motile, brownish-coloured bacterium, termed strain LPB0137T, was isolated from a squid. Its cells could grow weakly on marine agar 2216 with 0.04 % 2,3,5-triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TTC). Each cell of strain LPB0137T has a circular chromosome with a length of 2.87 Mb and 27.7 mol% DNA G+C content. The genome includes 2698 protein-coding genes and six rRNA operons. In 16S rRNA gene sequence trees, strain LPB0137T formed a robust monophyletic clade with Poseidonibacter antarcticus SM1702T with a sequence similarity of 98.3 %. However, the average nucleotide identity and in silico DNA-DNA hybridization values between the two type strains were low (83.9 and 28.1 %, respectively). The overall phenotypic and genomic features of strain LPB0137T supported its assignment to the genus Poseidonibacter. However, the relatively low gene and genome sequence similarity between this strain and other type strains of the genus Poseidonibacter and several enzymatic characteristics indicated the taxonomic novelty of the isolated strain as a new member of the genus Poseidonibacter. Therefore, based on the phylogenetic and phenotypic characteristics of LPB0137T, we proposed a novel species of the genus Poseidonibacter for it, with the name Poseidonibacter parvus sp. nov. The type strain of this new species is thus LPB0137T (=KACC 18888T=JCM 31548T).

Clostridium fessum sp. nov., isolated from human faeces.

An obligately anaerobic, Gram-stain-positive and spore-forming strain, SNUG30386T was isolated from a faecal sample of a healthy Korean subject. The strain formed a round ivory-coloured colony and cells were chained rods with tapered ends, approximately 2.0-2.5×0.6-0.8 μm in size. The taxonomic analysis indicated that strain SNUG30386T was within the family Lachnospiraceae. According to the 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity, the closest species to strain SNUG30386T was Clostridium symbiosum (95.6 %), followed by Enterocloster asparagiformis (94.8 %), Enterocloster clostridioformis (94.8 %) and Enterocloster lavalensis (94.6 %). The evolutionary tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences demonstrated that strain SNUG30386T had split apart at a unique branch point far from other close relatives. Its DNA G+C content was 48.3 mol% calculated from the whole genome sequence. The major cellular fatty acids were C16 : 0 and C14 : 0. Compared to those of the closely related species, strain SNUG30386T showed distinct biochemical activities such as being unable to utilize most of carbon sources except d-glucose and l-arabinose. As a result, based on its unique phylogenetic clade and taxonomic characteristics, we conclude that strain SNUG30386T represents a novel species within the genus Clostridium, for which the name Clostridium fessum sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of the novel species is SNUG30386T (=KCTC 15633T= JCM 32258T).

Azospirillum oleiclasticum sp. nov, a nitrogen-fixing and heavy oil degrading bacterium isolated from an oil production mixture of Yumen Oilfield

Two nitrogen-fixing and heavy oil degrading strains, designated RWY-5-1-1T and ROY-1-1-2, were isolated from an oil production mixture from Yumen Oilfield in China. The 16S rRNA gene sequence showed they belong to Azospirillum and have less than 96.1 % pairwise similarity with each species in this genus. The average nucleotide identity and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values between them and other type strains of Azospirillum species were less than 75.69 % and 22.0 %, respectively, both below the species delineation threshold. Pan-genomic analysis showed that the novel isolate RWY-5-1-1T shared 2145 core gene families with other type strains in Azospirillum, and the number of strain-specific gene families was 1623, almost two times more than the number known from other species. Furthermore, genes related to nitrogenase, hydrocarbon degradation and biosurfactant production were found in the isolates’ genomes. Also, this strain was capable of reducing acetylene to ethylene at a rate of 22nmol ethylene h-1 (108 cells) and degrading heavy oil at a rate of 36.2 %. The major fatty acids and polar lipids were summed feature 8 (C18:1ω7c/C18:1ω6c), and phosphatidylethanolamine, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, and phosphatidylcholine. Furthermore, a combination of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic, phylogenetic and genotypic data clearly indicated that strains RWY-5-1-1T and ROY-1-1-2 represent a novel species, for which the name Azospirillum oleiclasticum sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is RWY-5-1-1T (=CGMCC 1.13426T =KCTC 72259 T). Azospirillum novel strains with the ability of heavy oil degradation associated with the promotion of plant growth has never been reported to date.

Alteromonas ponticola sp. nov., a gammaproteobacterium isolated from seawater.

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-spore-forming, non-motile and ovoid or rod-shaped bacterial strain, MYP5T, was isolated from seawater in Jeju island of South Korea. MYP5T grew optimally at 30-35 °C and in the presence of 2.0 % (w/v) NaCl. A neighbour-joining phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that MYP5T fell within the clade enclosed by the type strains of species of the genus Alteromonas, clustering with the type strains of Alteromonas confluentis and Alteromonas halophila. MYP5T exhibited the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity value (98.0 %) to the type strain of A. confluentis and similarities of 95.1-97.9 % to the type strains of the other species of the genus Alteromonas. ANI and dDDH values of genomic sequences between MYP5T and the type strains of 22 species of the genus Alteromonas were 66.8-70.5 % and 18.6-27.5 %, respectively. The DNA G+C content of MYP5T, determined from the genome sequence, was 46.1 %. MYP5T contained Q-8 as the predominant ubiquinone and C18 : 1 ω7c, summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω7c and/or C16 : 1 ω6c), C16 : 0 and 10-methyl C17 : 0 as the major fatty acids. The major polar lipids of MYP5T were phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylglycerol. Distinguishing phenotypic properties, along with the phylogenetic and genetic distinctiveness, revealed that MYP5T is separated from species of the genus Alteromonas. On the basis of the data presented, MYP5T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Alteromonas, for which the name Alteromonas ponticola sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is MYP5T (=KCTC 82144T=NBRC 114354T).

An Earliest Endosymbiont, Wolbachia massiliensis sp. nov., Strain PL13 from the Bed Bug (Cimex hemipterus), Type Strain of a New Supergroup T.

The symbiotic Wolbachia are the most sophisticated mutualistic bacterium among all insect-associated microbiota. Wolbachia-insect relationship fluctuates from the simple facultative/parasitic to an obligate nutritional-mutualistic association as it was the case of the bedbug-Wolbachia from Cimex lectularius. Understanding this association may help in the control of associated arthropods. Genomic data have proven to be reliable tools in resolving some aspects of these symbiotic associations. Although, Wolbachia appear to be fastidious or uncultivated bacteria which strongly limited their study. Here we proposed Drosophila S2 cell line for the isolation and culture model to study Wolbachia strains. We therefore isolated and characterized a novel Wolbachia strain associated with the bedbug Cimex hemipterus, designated as wChem strain PL13, and proposed Wolbachia massiliensis sp. nov. strain wChem-PL13 a type strain of this new species from new supergroup T. Phylogenetically, T-supergroup was close to F and S-supergroups from insects and D-supergroup from filarial nematodes. We determined the 1,291,339-bp genome of wChem-PL13, which was the smallest insect-associated Wolbachia genomes. Overall, the wChem genome shared 50% of protein coding genes with the other insect-associated facultative Wolbachia strains. These findings highlight the diversity of Wolbachia genotypes as well as the Wolbachia-host relationship among Cimicinae subfamily. The wChem provides folate and riboflavin vitamins on which the host depends, while the bacteria had a limited translation mechanism suggesting its strong dependence to its hosts. However, the clear-cut distinction between mutualism and parasitism of the wChem in C. hemipterus cannot be yet ruled out.

Psychroflexus aurantiacus sp. nov., isolated from soil in the Yellow River Delta wetlands.

A Gram-stain-negative, strictly aerobic, non-motile, orange-coloured bacterium, designated YR1-1T, was isolated from a soil sample collected from the Yellow River Delta wetlands (PR China). Growth was observed at a salinity of 1.0-15.0 % NaCl, 4-45 °C and pH 6.0-9.0. The results of phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that YR1-1T represented a member of the genus Psychroflexus, with the highest sequence similarity to Psychroflexus sediminis YIM-C238T (97.9 %), followed by Psychroflexus aestuariivivens (97.1 %) and Psychroflexus torquis (96.4 %). The average nucleotide identity and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values between YR1-1T and other closely related type strains of species of the genus Psychroflexus were 68.7-86.3% and 17.8-30.9 %. The genome of the strain was 2 899 374 bp in length with 39.8 % DNA G+C content. The predominant fatty acids (>10 %) were iso-C15 : 0 and anteiso-C15 : 0. The major respiratory quinone was menaquinone-6 (MK-6) and the major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phospholipid, diphosphatidylglycerol, two unidentified aminolipids and four unidentified lipids. The combined genotypic and phenotypic data indicate that YR1-1T represents a novel species within the genus Psychroflexus, for which the name Psychroflexus aurantiacus sp. nov., is proposed. The type strain is YR1-1T (=KCTC 72794T=CGMCC 1.17458T).

Complete and Circularized Genome Assemblies of the Kroppenstedtia eburnea Genus Type Strain and the Kroppenstedtia pulmonis Species Type Strain with MiSeq and MinION Sequence Data.

Kroppenstedtia eburnea DSM 45196T and Kroppenstedtia pulmonis W9323T are aerobic, Gram-positive, filamentous, chemoorganotrophic thermoactinomycetes. Here, we report on the complete and circular genome assemblies generated using Illumina MiSeq and Oxford Nanopore Technologies MinION reads. Putative gene clusters predicted to be involved in the production of secondary metabolites were also identified.

Genome-based reclassification of Azospirillum brasilense Sp245 as the type strain of Azospirillum baldaniorum sp. nov.

Azospirillum sp. strain Sp245T, originally identified as belonging to Azospirillum brasilense, is recognized as a plant-growth-promoting rhizobacterium due to its ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen and to produce plant-beneficial compounds. Azospirillum sp. Sp245T and other related strains were isolated from the root surfaces of different plants in Brazil. Cells are Gram-negative, curved or slightly curved rods, and motile with polar and lateral flagella. Their growth temperature varies between 20 to 38 °C and their carbon source utilization is similar to other Azospirillum species. A preliminary 16S rRNA sequence analysis showed that the new species is closely related to A. brasilense Sp7T and A. formosense CC-Nfb-7T. Housekeeping genes revealed that Azospirillum sp. Sp245T, BR 12001 and Vi22 form a separate cluster from strain A. formosense CC-Nfb-7T, and a group of strains closely related to A. brasilense Sp7T. Overall genome relatedness index (OGRI) analyses estimated based on average nucleotide identity (ANI) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) between Azospirillum sp. Sp245T and its close relatives to other Azospirillum species type strains, such as A. brasilense Sp7T and A. formosense CC-Nfb-7T , revealed values lower than the limit of species circumscription. Moreover, core-proteome phylogeny including 1079 common shared proteins showed the independent clusterization of A. brasilense Sp7T, A. formosense CC-Nfb-7T and Azospirillum sp. Sp245T, a finding that was corroborated by the genome clustering of OGRI values and housekeeping phylogenies. The DNA G+C content of the cluster of Sp245T was 68.4-68.6 %. Based on the phylogenetic, genomic, phenotypical and physiological analysis, we propose that strain Sp245T together with the strains Vi22 and BR12001 represent a novel species of the genus Azospirillum, for which the name Azospirillum baldaniorum sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is Sp245T (=BR 11005T=IBPPM 219T) (GCF_007827915.1, GCF_000237365.1, and GCF_003119195.2).

Microbispora cellulosiformans sp. nov., a novel actinomycete with cellulase activity isolated from soil in the cold region.

A novel cellulase-producing actinomycete strain Gxj-6T, isolated from soil in the cold region (Heihe city, Heilongjiang province, the northernmost part of China), subjected to a taxonomic study using a polyphasic approach. In the neighbour-joining phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, strain Gxj-6T fell within the clade comprising the type strains of species of the genus Microbispora. 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity studies exhibited that species Gxj-6T was most closely related to Microbispora bryophytorum NEAU-TX2-2T (99.45%), Microbispora fusca NEAU-HEGS1-5T (99.41%), Microbispora camponoti 2C-HV3T (99.31%) and Microbispora rosea subsp. rosea JCM 3006T (98.68%). Organism Gxj-6T contained MK-9(H2) as the predominant ubiquinone and C18:0 10-methyl as the major fatty acid. The major polar lipids of culture Gxj-6T were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol mannoside, three unidentified phospholipids, two unidentified glycolipids and two unidentified lipids. The DNA G+C content of strain Gxj-6T was 71.25mol%. The morphological and chemotaxonomic properties of the strain are also consistent with those members of the genus Microbispora. Combinated with the lower DNA-DNA relatedness values, phenotypic properties, physiology and biochemistry distinctiveness with other recognized species strains, revealed that strain Gxj-6T is separated from other phylogenetically closely species of the genus Microbispora. Therefore, strain Gxj-6T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Microbispora, for which the name Microbispora cellulosiformans sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is Gxj-6T (= CGMCC 4.7605T = DSM 109712T).

Flavobacterium panici sp. nov. isolated from the rhizosphere of the switchgrass Panicum virgatum.

A Gram-staining-negative non endospore-forming strain, PXU-55T, was isolated from the rhizosphere of the switchgrass Panicum virgatum and studied in detail to determine its taxonomic position. The results of 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that the isolate represented a member of the genus Flavobacterium. The isolate shared highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities with the type strains of Flavobacterium chungangense (98.78 %) and Flavobacterium chilense (98.64 %). The average nucleotide identity (ANI) and in silico DNA-DNA hybridization (isDDH) values between the PXU-55T genome assembly and the ones of the most closely related type strains of species of the genus Flavobacterium were 87.3 and 31.9% (Flavobacterium defluvii), and 86.1 and 29.9% (Flavobacterium johnsoniae). Menaquinone MK-6 was the major respiratory quinone. As major polar lipids, phosphatidylethanolamine, an ornithine lipid and the unidentified polar lipids L2, L3 and L4 lacking a functional group were found. Moderate to minor amounts of another ornithine lipid, the unidentified lipid L1 and a glycolipid were present, as well. The major polyamine is sym-homospermidine. The fatty acid profiles contained major amounts of iso-C15:0, iso-C15:0 3-OH, iso-C17:0 3-OH, C15:0, summed feature 3 (C16:1ω7c and/or iso-C15:0 2-OH) and various hydroxylated fatty acids in smaller amounts, among them iso C16:0 3-OH, C16:0 3-OH and C15:0 3-OH, which supported the classification of the isolate as a member of the genus Flavobacterium. Physiological and biochemical characterisation and ANI calculations with the type strains of the most closely related species allowed a clear phenotypic and genotypic differentiation of the strain. For this reason, we propose that strain PXU-55T (=CIP 111646T=CCM 8914T) represents a novel species with the name Flavobacterium panici sp. nov.

Hymenobacter radiodurans sp. nov., isolated from soil in the Republic of Korea.

A bacterial strain, designated 17J36-26T, was isolated from the UV-irradiated soil from Jeju Island, South Korea. Cells are Gram negative, strictly aerobic, non-motile, non-spore forming, rod shaped, and catalase and oxidase positive. The major fatty acids of strain 17J36-26T were summed feature 4 (17:1 iso I/17:1 anteiso B), summed feature 3 (16:1 ω6c/16:1 ω7c), C16:1 ω5c and iso-C15:0. The polar lipid profile contained phosphatidylethanolamine, unidentified aminophospholipid, phospholipids and four unidentified lipids. The G+C content of the strain 17J36-26T was 62.6mol%. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strain 17J36-26T was phylogenetically related to Hymenobacter qilianensis DK6-37T and Hymenobacter roseosalivarius AA718T (97.5% and 96.8% sequence similarity, respectively). Strain 17J36-26T showed resistance to UV radiation. Both average nucleotide identity (ANI) and in silico DNA-DNA hybridization (isDDH) values between strains 17J36-26T and type strains of Hymenobacter species were lower than the cut-off (≥ 95-96% for ANI and ≥ 70% for isDDH) to define a bacterial new species. The polyphasic approach using genotypic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic data showed that strain 17J36-26T could be distinguished from its phylogenetically related species, and thus, the strain representative of a novel species within the genus Hymenobacter, for which the name Hymenobacter radiodurans sp. nov. (type strain 17J36-26T = KCTC 62269T = JCM 33185T) is proposed.

Brewing Characteristics of the Maltotriose-Positive Yeast Zygotorulaspora florentina Isolated from Oak

The use of wild yeasts in fermentation is becoming a viable option for the differentiation of beers. To achieve good fermentation rates and alcohol yields, however, such yeasts must have the ability to utilize the wort sugars maltose and maltotriose, a relatively rare trait amongst non-domesticated yeasts. Zygotorulaspora florentina is a species with the ability to utilize both sugars, and was evaluated here with respect to its brewing potential. The strain studied (VTT C-201041) was isolated from bark of an oak tree (Quercus robur) in Espoo, Finland. The fermentation performance of the strain was compared to that of two ale yeasts as well as the species type strain (VTT C-94199). Both Z. florentina strains fermented wort efficiently (apparent attenuation levels &gt;77%). While the type strain had the highest yield, the Finnish strain produced more volatile aroma compounds. The species is capable of decarboxylating ferulic acid to produce the spice/clove-like compound 4-vinylguaiacol, which was present in beers at a concentration above the typical flavor threshold. The characteristic flavor of 4-vinylguaiacol was not however perceptible in taste trials, possibly due to the masking effect of other compounds. The potential of this species for industrial application is discussed, particularly in relation to its apparent ethanol sensitivity.

Acidiluteibacter ferrifornacis gen. nov., sp. nov., a new member of the Flavobacteriales from Tielu Harbour, Hainan, PR China.

A novel bacterial strain of the family 'Vicingaceae' was isolated from mangrove of Tielu Harbour, Hainan, PR China. Strain S-15T was a Gram-stain-negative, short-rod-shaped, yellow-pigmented that could grow at 10-42 °C (optimum, 26-35 °C), at pH 5.0-9.0 (optimum, pH 5.5) and in 0.5-10.0 % w/v sea salt (optimum, 3.5-4.0 %). Cells of strain S-15T were 0.9-1.4 µm long, 0.8-0.9 µm wide, catalase-positive and oxidase-positive. Colonies on modified marine agar 2216 were 0.5-2.0 mm in diameter after incubation for 72 h at 28 °C. Analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain S-15T was most closely related to Vicingus serpentipes ANORD5T (89.8 %). The major respiratory quinone of strain S-15T was menaquinone MK-7, and the dominant fatty acids were C15:0 iso, C15:1 iso G and C17:0 iso 3-OH. The major polar lipids were two unidentified aminolipids, phosphatidylethanolamine and six unidentified lipids. Analyses showed that the genome size was 3.52 Mb and the DNA G+C content was 35.6 mol%, which were higher than V. serpentipes ANORD5T with 2.92 Mb genome size and 31.0 mol% G+C content, respectively. Based on morphological, physiological and phylogenetic data, strain S-15T is considered a type strain of a new species and a new genus of the family 'Vicingaceae' for which the name Acidiluteibacter ferrifornacis gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of Acidiluteibacter ferrifornacis is S-15T (=MCCC 1K03817T=JCM 33804T).

Paludisphaera soli sp. nov., a new member of the family Isosphaeraceae isolated from high altitude soil in the Western Himalaya.

A novel strain of Planctomycetes, designated JC670T, was isolated from a high altitude (~ 2900m above sea level) soil sample collected from Garhwal region in the Western Himalaya. Colonies of this strain were observed to be light pink coloured with spherical to oval shaped cells having crateriform structures distributed all over the cell surface. The cells divide by budding. Strain JC670T was found to grow well at pH 7.0 and pH 8.0 and to tolerate up to 2% NaCl (w/v). MK6 was the only respiratory quinone identified. The major fatty acids of strain JC670T were identified as C18:1ω9c, C18:0 and C16:0, and phosphatidylcholine, two unidentified phospholipids and six unidentified lipids are present as the polar lipids. The polyamines putrescine and sym-homospermidine were detected. Strain JC670T shows high 16S rRNA gene sequence identity (95.4%) with Paludisphaera borealis PX4T. The draft genome size of strain JC670T is 7.97Mb, with G + C content of 70.4mol%. Based on phylogenetic analyses with the sequences of ninety-two core genes, low dDDH value (20.6%), low gANI (76.8%) and low AAI (69.1%) results, differential chemotaxonomic and physiological properties, strain JC670T (= KCTC 72850T = NBRC 114339T) is recognised as the type strain of a new species of the genusPaludisphaera, for which we propose the namePaludisphaera soli sp. nov.

Roseomonas algicola sp. nov., isolated from a green alga, Pediastrum duplex

A Gram-stain-negative, strictly aerobic bacterium, designated strain PeD5T, was isolated from a green alga Pediastrum duplex from the Nakdong river of the Republic of Korea. Cells were non-motile cocci, catalase-negative and oxidase-positive. Growth of PeD5T was observed at 25-40 °C (optimum, 35 °C) and pH 5.0-10.0 (optimum, pH 7-8), and in the presence of 0-0.25% (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 0%). PeD5T contained C16:0, C18:1ω7c 11-methyl, summed feature 3 (comprising C16:1ω7c and/or C16:1ω6c) and summed feature 8 (comprising C18:1ω7c and/or C18:1ω6c) as major cellular fatty acids (>5%) and ubiquinone-10 as the sole isoprenoid quinone. Phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, an unidentified phospholipid and an unidentified aminolipid were detected as major polar lipids. The genomic DNA G+C content of PeD5T was 71.0 mol%. PeD5T was most closely related to Roseomonas stagni HS-69T with a 97.6% 16S rRNA sequence similarity and shared less than 96.3% 16S rRNA sequence similarities with type strains of other species. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that PeD5T formed a phyletic lineage with Roseomonas stagni HS-69T within the genus Roseomonas. On the basis of results of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and molecular analysis, strain PeD5T clearly represents a novel species of the genus Roseomonas, for which the name Roseomonas algicola sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is PeD5T (=KACC 19925T=JCM 33309T).

Sulfurimicrobium lacus gen. nov., sp. nov., a sulfur oxidizer isolated from lake water, and review of the family Sulfuricellaceae to show that it is not a later synonym of Gallionellaceae.

A facultatively anaerobic sulfur-oxidizing bacterium, strain skT11T, was isolated from anoxic lake water of a stratified freshwater lake. As electron donor for chemolithoautotrophic growth, strain skT11T oxidized thiosulfate, tetrathionate, and elemental sulfur under nitrate-reducing conditions. Oxygen-dependent growth was observed under microoxic conditions, but not under fully oxygenated conditions. Growth was observed at a temperature range of 5-37°C, with optimum growth at 28°C. Strain skT11T grew at a pH range of 5.1-7.5, with optimum growth at pH 6.5-6.9. Heterotrophic growth was not observed. Major components in the cellular fatty acid profile were C16:1 and C16:0. The complete genome of strain skT11T consisted of a circular chromosome with a size of 3.8 Mbp and G + C content of 60.2mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that the strain skT11T is related to sulfur-oxidizing bacteria of the genera Sulfuricella, Sulfurirhabdus, and Sulfuriferula, with sequence identities of 95.4% or lower. The analysis also indicated that these three genera should be excluded from the family Gallionellaceae, as members of another family. On the basis of its genomic and phenotypic properties, strain skT11T (= DSM 110711T = NBRC 114323T) is proposed as the type strain of a new species in a new genus, Sulfurimicrobium lacus gen. nov., sp. nov. In addition, emended descriptions of the families Gallionellaceae and Sulfuricellaceae are proposed to declare that Sulfuricellaceae is not a later synonym of Gallionellaceae.

Fenollaria timonensis sp. nov., A New Bacterium Isolated from Healthy Human Fresh Stool.

The strain Marseille-P2133 is the type strain of a new bacterial species of the order Clostridiales that was isolated from a stool sample from a healthy volunteer. It is a strictly anaerobic Gram-negative coccobacillus. MALDI-TOF MS did not provide any identification. Strain Marseille-P2133T exhibits 97.4% similarity levels with the Fenollaria massiliensis strain 9401234T (NR_133038), a phylogenetically related species with standing in nomenclature. On the basis of these data, we propose the creation of Fenollaria timonensis sp. nov.

Actinoplanes solisilvae sp. nov., Isolated from Birch Forest Soil.

A novel actinomycete, designated strain LAM7112T, was isolated from soil sample collected from a birch forest in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. The new isolate was found to be able to grow at 20-45°C (optimum: 35°C), pH 5.0-10.0 (optimum: 7.0) and in the presence of 0-10.0% (optimum: 3.0%) (w/v) NaCl. The isolate formed very scantily irregular sporangia containing motile spores on the substrate mycelium. Phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that the new isolate was closely related to members of the family Micromonosporaceae, with highest similarites to Actinoplanes ferrugineus X-14695T (97.4%), Micromonospora zamorensis DSM 45600T (97.3%) and Micromonospora aurantiaca ATCC 27029T (97.3%). In the phylogenetic trees, strain LAM7112T formed a stable phylogenetic subclade within the genus Actinoplanes. The genomic DNA G + C content was 70.0mol%. The major fatty acids (> 10%) were determined to be iso-C16:0, anteiso-C15:0 and anteiso-C17:0. The predominant menaquinones were identified as MK-9 (H2), MK-9 (H4) and MK-9 (H6). The major polar lipids were found to be diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol and phosphatidylethanolamine. The diagnostic amino acid of the cell wall peptidoglycan was determined to be meso-diaminopimelic acid. The diagnostic sugars in cell hydrolysates were determined to be glucose and ribose. On the basis of its phenotypic, phylogenetic and chemotaxonomic characteristics, strain LAM7112T (= CGMCC 4.7580T = JCM 32512T) is proposed to represent the type strain of a novel species of the genus Actinoplanes, for which the name Actinoplanes solisilvae is proposed.
