The reaction of [MoCp 2(SR) 2] (R=CH 3, C 2H 5, n-C 14H 29 or C 6H 5) with InCl 3 in ethanol affords new compounds which, after treatment with NH 4PF 6, were fully characterized as the hexafluorophosphate salts [InMoCp 2(μ-SR) 2 3] [PF 6] 3. A new monocation [InCl 2MoCp 2(μ-SR) 2 2] + was isolated as a tetraphenylborate salt and structurally characterized by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study. The molybdenum atoms exhibit the usual bent metallocene structure with a distorted tetrahedron around each metal atom. The coordination around the indium atom is cis-octahedral. The InS 4Cl 2 core has a pseudo two-fold symmetry axis through the In atom bisecting the midpoint of the Cl- Cl edge of the coordination polyhedron. This pseudosymmetry extends to the Mo atoms and to some extent to the Cp ligands. The In-Mo distances, 4.0401(5) and 4.0703(5)A˚, and the large In-S-Mo angles indicate no interaction between the two different metal centres.
