Twisted scroll waves in active three-dimensional media

We formulate a general analytical procedure for the calculation of the basic properties of twisted scroll waves in active media described by the Fitz-Hugh-Nagumo reaction-diffusion equations. As an illustration such a calculation is carried out for a particular model of an active medium. The results of the numerical simulation of twisted scroll waves in inhomogeneous active media are reported.

Pattern synthesis from singular solutions in the Debye limit: helical waves and twisted toroidal scroll structures

Applying the Debye limit to a suitable superposition of singular solutions of the linear two-component reaction-diffusion equations in three dimensions leads to helical and twisted toroidal scroll waves of constant concentration. An integral representation of the solutions of the Helmholtz equation in toroidal coordinates establishes a connection between helical and toroidal waves.
