Data Analysis Method of Intelligent Analysis Platform for Big Data of Film and Television

Based on cloud computing and statistics theory, this paper proposes a reasonable analysis method for big data of film and television. The method selects Hadoop open source cloud platform as the basis, combines the MapReduce distributed programming model and HDFS distributed file storage system and other key cloud computing technologies. In order to cope with different data processing needs of film and television industry, association analysis, cluster analysis, factor analysis, and K-mean + association analysis algorithm training model were applied to model, process, and analyze the full data of film and TV series. According to the film type, producer, production region, investment, box office, audience rating, network score, audience group, and other factors, the film and television data in recent years are analyzed and studied. Based on the study of the impact of each attribute of film and television drama on film box office and TV audience rating, it is committed to the prediction of film and television industry and constantly verifies and improves the algorithm model.

The impact of online video highlights on TV audience ratings

Short video excerpts from TV shows are a tool that producers/broadcasters use to promote their programs. This study examines how video highlights that are presented online for free viewing, which can be analogous to product samples for entertainment goods, affect TV audience ratings. We investigate whether a displacement effect exists, i.e., the substitution of goods due to the availability of other similar goods. We find that positive viewer response, measured by the number of likes and views generated for the highlights, positively affects ratings, and the square of the number of likes negatively affects ratings. Our findings suggest that if viewers are overly satisfied with the highlights, some may be satisfied with merely viewing them and refrain from watching the actual show; such a response may potentially decrease TV viewership. This is the first study to examine the role of online video highlights as a promotional tool for TV shows.

화제성지수와 시청률의 상관관계 연구 : TV 드라마 사례를 중심으로

본 연구에서는 시청자들의 프로그램 반응을 분석하기 위한 화제성지수를 제안하고 해당 지수의 타당성을 시청률과의 관계 분석을 통해 살펴봤다. 시청률과 화제성 지수 간의 상관관계를 분석했으며 이어 드라마의 속성별로 둘 간의 관계를 심화·분석했다. 드라마 속성은 편성요일, 방송사유형, 장르 등으로 구분했다. 2016년 기준, 13개월 동안 방송된 지상파, 종편, 케이블 방송사 드라마 44편을 대상으로 시청률과 화제성지수를 조사했으며 분석결과 시청률과 화제성지수 간의 상관관계가 유의미한 것으로 나타났으며 드라마 속성별로 시청률과 화제성지수는 차별적으로 나타났다. 연구에서는 해당 분석결과에 기초해 시청률과 화제성을 기준으로 드라마를 4개 그룹으로 분류하고 유형별 특징을 고찰했다. 연구 결과는 화제성지수가 시청률을 보완할 수 있는 프로그램 성과지표로 기능할 수 있다는 점을 시사했다.

Continuous TV demand in road cycling: the 2015 Vuelta a España

ABSTRACTResearch question: The aim of this paper is to analyze minute-by-minute TV demand in the case of road cycling. The paper addresses at least two new hypotheses. First, breakaways and episodes of climbing mountain passes increase the audience within a specific stage. Second, the presence of commercials during the broadcasting reduces the audience significantly.Research methods: We have collected information about the minute-by-minute TV audience for all the stages of the 2015 Vuelta a España. To check our hypotheses, we have applied multivariate regression analysis, after controlling for other common variables such as competitive balance or stage profile.Results and findings: Related to our first hypothesis, the TV audience increases when the leader is climbing a mountain, and when a top ten rider is involved in a breakaway. For our second hypothesis, the TV audience decreases when commercials are broadcasted even on a split screen.Implications: This paper highlights the relevance of the analysis of the minute-by-minute TV audience demand in the case of road cycling, at the same time suggesting some hints for enhancing TV audience. On the one hand, organizers may wish to schedule more mountain stages, where breakaways tend to be more likely. On the other hand, TV channels should choose time slots for advertising carefully, since their negative effects on TV audience ratings appear to be quite significant.

Investor sentiment and stock returns: Evidence from provincial TV audience rating in China

Abstract In this paper, we advocate the provincial TV audience rating as the novel proxy for the provincial investor sentiment (PIS) and investigate its relation with stock returns. The empirical results firstly show that the PIS is positively related to stock returns. Secondly, we provide direct evidence on the existence of home bias in China by observing that the provincial correlation coefficient is significantly larger than the cross-provincial correlation coefficient. Finally, the PIS can explain a large proportion of provincial comovement. To sum up, all these findings support the role of the non-traditional information sources in understanding the “anomalies” in stock market.

The Development History of Chinese TV Audience Ratings and Its Critical Thinking

Along with Chinese economic system transition from a planned economy to market economy, Chi-nese television audience survey also implements the changes from the audience’s letters, calls, collective and individual interviews in the 1980s, to the TV audience ratings of the 1990s. But the TV audience ratings purely take the AD share and economic interests as the guidance, under the globalization era background, not only can greatly reduce the TV programs quality, but also even-tually lead to the crisis of Chinese traditional culture.

Visual Peoplemeter: A Vision-based Television Audience Measurement System

Visual peoplemeter is a vision-based measurement system that objectively evaluates the attentive behavior for TV audience rating, thus offering solution to some of drawbacks of current manual logging peoplemeters. In this paper, some limitations of current audience measurement system are reviewed and a novel vision-based system aiming at passive metering of viewers is prototyped. The system uses camera mounted on a television as a sensing modality and applies advanced computer vision algorithms to detect and track a person, and to recognize attentional states. Feasibility of the system is evaluated on a secondary dataset. The results show that the proposed system can analyze viewer's attentive behavior, therefore enabling passive estimates of relevant audience measurement categories.
